Lost connection to Airport USB drive

I have a MyBook USB drive connected to an AirPort Extreme Base Station (n). It has worked fine for months and could be seen from a MacBook and a Win XP Home SP2 computer.
On the XP computer, I updated to iTunes 7.3. As far as I can tell, that's the only thing that's changed in the last week. Ever since, XP cannot connect to the network drive.
If I restart the computer, it tries to connect and asks for a password. I enter the correct password, but it still won't connect. I've also tried a System Restore, but still no luck. The computer is wired to the AirPort and I still have internet access.
Any ideas? Is it possible that the problem is related to the iTunes upgrade or is it something else?
Thanks,
Doug

I also have the same problem. I have a MacBook and Windows XP desktop both upgraded to iTunes 7.3.1. MacBook works find with iTunes, XP will cause the airdisk to disconnect whenever i start itunes. I can get the airdisk back by logging on to it and restarting the basestation. But as soon as I start iTunes on XP is disconnects again.
I have uninstalled iTunes, reinstalled it, tried to rollback to an earlier save point and version. But so far nothing has worked. I cant even figure out why itunes would even know about the airdisk since i changed the settings on iTunes to use the C drive instead of the airdisk (Z drive).
Not had much luck searching the web for people with similar problems either... except this thread.
Have you guys found a solution yet?

  • Can't see content of Airport USB drive.

    Just got my MacBook Air.
I have set up a USB drive on my AEBS, which I can access just fine via my old MacBook.
On my new MB Air, I can see the base station in the finder side bar. When selected I can see the name of the drive. When selected, I cannot see any files or folders on that drive. I can't read or write.
How should I set up the MB Air to allow full access to the Airport USB drive?
    -Ron.

I'm having the same issues. Random folders throughout the server are not displaying their content. I can see the contents of these folders in Tiger, just not leopard.
I'm connecting to a Windows 2003 Server with Service Pack 2 using SMB, not AFP like Taliesin above.

I get the following message while doing something as simple as scrubbing through the timeline, or changing opacity of a layer. in 1080p, I have a picture layer, a solid, some color corrections, and that's it. i just got this new computer and i have never had this problem on my old computer.
this message appears after AE crashes."The NVIDIA OpenGL driver lost connection with the display driver and is unable to continue. The application must close."
this message appears in the taskbar: "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. Display driver NVIDIA Windows kernel Mode Driver, Version 267.21 stopped responding and has successfully recovered"
any ideas on how to stop AE from causing my display driver to stop working?

For anyone picking up this thread (it's probably too late for rrebeiz40 by now!) I have come across a simple but apparently very effective tip that has solved the 'OpenGL driver lost connection' issue for many people using various NVIDIA with various Adobe progs (incidentally a lot of these seem to crop up on Dell machines, especially Notebooks).
(It fixed my issue with Premiere Pro CS4 - GeForce GT 555M on Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit, Dell XPSL702X).
It's posted on http://forum-archive.developer.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=5331&st=40 (look for the last post, No 50) as follows:
THIS FIX APPEARS TO WORK...found on an Adobe forum
"This issue led me to this fix: go to NVIDIA Control Panel --> Manage 3D Settings --> Global Settings, and switch "Power Management Mode" to "Prefer Maximum Performance" (the default "Adaptive" setting seemed to be the culprit). And that's it! The key here is changing the "Global" setting, as my individual programs were already set to "Prefer Maximum Performance." I can cause the error to reoccur by changing back to "Adaptive."
Otherwise lots more ideas on this site: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Fix...Nvlddmkm-Error/
My PC has been running for 2 days now. I only put the top fix in for now. Feel happier I have more options if need be though.

    It worked for me

  • Does anyone know if an Airport Extreme will support WevDav connections to a USB drive for iOS devices?

With the possible demise of iDisk I was wondering if anyone knew if a USB drive hanging off of an Airport Express can be accessed via a WebDav connection? I know that iCloud will get better, but it does not feel like it meets my needs for a file store and I wanted to possibly replicate something like iDisk with the TB drive I have on my AEBS.I know one answer would be to get a Mac Mini and simply run Lion Server, but Iam looking for a way to host files that can be accessible (and automagically sync'd between my MBP and then accessible by my iOS devices. No, I don't want to use DropBox.or pay for Box.net.

I was wondering if anyone knew if a USB drive hanging off of an Airport Express can be accessed via a WebDav connection?
Sorry, but the AirPort Express will not support a USB drive, only a compatible USB printer.

  • Connect to a USB drive linked to my wireless router (non airport express)?

    Hi,
i have a USB drive (FAT32) connected directly to my wireless router and I want to connect to the drive from my powerbook. I am able to mount the drive via an ftp link, however the quality of this connection is not as good - iTunes is not able to pick up all my songs saved on the drive.
Does anyne know a better way to connect to this drive. Id like to keep it connected to the wireless router so that the drive and the information is available to everyone on my home network.
The router is a Netgear WGT634U.
    Thanks

Yep tried that. but it gives an error and cant connect. (get an error 36 or a login error - but i know the username and password are correct)

  • Can't see shared Airport USB Drive on Network

I have a AirPort Extreme (5th Generation) with a USB drive attached. I am using OS 10.9.2 on my desktop and laptop. I can see the drive on my desktop Mac which has a ethernet connection to the Airport, but my laptop can't see the shared drive. I used Airport Utility (under "Disk" Tab) to Enable file sharing and share disks over WAN. I have set the "Secure Shared Disks" to "With a disk Password."  On the laptop, I have set Finder preferences to see "External disks."
However, the disk does not show up on the Finder sidebar under "Devices" or "Shared."
Any suggestions on how I can make this "Shared Drive" visible?
    Thanks,
    Dave

Also make sure that Finder Preferences is set to show Connected Servers on the desktop.
Restart the entire network as well by powering everything off, waiting a minute, then starting the modem first, followed by the next device connected to the modem, etc until everything is powered back up.

  • Time capsule or Airport & usb drive

HI I hope someone can give me some clear advice please.
I currently own a WD mybookworld drive and it does not support lion for backups on time machine and they are struggling to produce a firmware update and i need to back up my data ASAP.
Ihave been reading up on time machine and it seems they are prone to failure,so im considering buying an external usb drive and Airport extreme and go down that route.
My current router is supplied by O2 who in the past say i must use their router (not really sure why). Is it possible to connect the airport extreme to the existing router or does it need to be just the one router. The current one is hardwired to a pc and i use my macbook pro etc wirelessly off it.
Any advice will be gratefully recieved

Are time machines as unreliable as i have been reading ?
the early models were a bit flakey, but the problems have since been ironed out.
some people say it's not if they will fail but a matter of when which doesn't fill me with confidence.
this forum (and others similar to it) are like hospitals. folks with problems come here, but that doesn't mean the whole world is sick.
that said, ALL devices will fail eventually. therefore it is imperative to have more than one backup.
a lot of folks use time machine backups (to external HD's or time capsule) and use e.g. Carbon Copy Cloner to backup their Macs (or imporatnt files) to yet another external HD.

  • My projector is not being recognized as an additional device.  It is connected via a USB drive.  What can I do to get systems preferences to recognize this?

    Help please....

The advise is that you install an appropriate USB driver for that projector in order for the projector to sense its signal.
Have you checked with the manufacturer if that projector is compatible with your Mac Book Pro?
Is it a newer Projector? All currently that I know connect via Thunderbolt.

  • Lost connection to airport express

I changed the password on my router for my wireless internet connection today, and have now lost connection with the airport express.
WHen I go to Airport Utility it is no longer showing the Airport EXpress as one of the connected devices.
I have unplugged the Express, done a hard reset on it. I have restarted my Macbook Air, but nothing assists me in Airport Utility picking up the additional device. Should I connect the Airport Express with an ethernet cable maybe to get everything working again?
Hope someone can assist me as I now have no music in the house

Problem solved. Mystery remains. but problem solved

  • Airport/USB Drive as a library location?

We have 4 Macs in our family, and 4 different iPhoto Libraries. I have an Airport Extreme Gigabit with a 300GB USB drive attached. A few questions:
    1. Can I use this drive to store and access an iPhoto library?
    2. If so, can there be one master library that each Mac accesses, so that all of our photos are in the same library?
    3. In regards to speed in accessing photos, will there be a significant decrease in speed using this method?
    Thanks in advance!
    Ty

    Hi
    1. Yes
    2. Yes, but.
    3. I don't know.
Now, for more about that 'Yes, but...
If you want the other users to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc. then:
    Quit iPhoto on all machines
On each machine in turn: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue, select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new library location. From that point on, this will be the default library location. All machines will have full access to the library, in fact, all achines will 'own' it.
BUT, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • Lost data on external usb drive when ejecting

I have 2 Freecom XS 1TB USB drives to stare my photos on, one acting as the back-up to the other. They are formatted in FAT32, as I need to access them both from my laptop (Linux Mint 8) as well as the iMac.
I had no problems with this until yesterday, when I had them both connected to the Mac. I had ejected them, then shut down.
When I rebooted the iMac, neither disk had any folders or files on them, although disk utility showed that over 140GB of space was used up. I tried them with the laptop and got the same result.
I have/had 15 years of photos on the disks, and most of the files were RAW files (Sony ARW), with many tif/tiff and jpeg files too. Is there any way of my possibly recovering these files and folders? The RAW files are the most important to me.
I have searched the forum for ideas, but drawn a blank. Please help if you can!

Let me ask the obvious first. Have you attached the external drive back to the Windows machine you moved the data from. If so what happened? You might be able to recover using some free tools from this link. http://pcsupport.about.com/od/filerecovery/tp/free-file-recovery-programs.htm
Give them a try if your Windows box does not see the data on the drive and then use this tool from WD after getting your data back http://support.wdc.com/product/downloaddetail.asp?swid=119 to make an image if needed. Always remember to back up!

  • Connecting Time Machine USb drive to Time Capsule and continuing backups?

I've been backing up my iMac to an external HDD while I waited to get my TC replaced (blew the PSU about a month ago and I've been lazy about getting it fixed). Now that my replacement 500Gb TC has arrived, I'd like to continue with the current TM backup I have. Can I simply unplug the USb drive from the iMac and plug it into the USB port on the back of the TC? I know I can backup to the drive from scratch, but I want to be able to continue using the backup I already have. I know Time Machine over wired/wireless uses a sparsebundle instead and that a USb doesn't, so will there be an issue?
(And the reason I want to move the external in the first place is to free up some space on my desk)

You can probably do that, if there's enough room on the disk for two copies of your backups, or if you have a second disk you can use, but it's a bit tricky and will take a long time.
See #18 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum.
If your current backups are case-ignorant, however, the procedure there won't work "as is". You'll have to either change the sparse bundle that Time Machine makes, or use a special Terminal command to copy your backups into the default sparse bundle.
So your best bet is probably to simply erase the drive and let TM start fresh. And if your USB drive doesn't have it's own power supply, you'll probably want to use a powered hub.

  • Lost Connection To Airport Extreme HD after Upgrading to Lio

Since installing Lion, I cannot access a specific HD connected to my Airport Extreme. It locks up the computer with a permanent spinning beach ball.  All of the others on the network - not running Lion - connect to that drive as usual without difficulty.
Complicating things, from the Lion computer, I can access another HD without difficulty connected to the same Airport Extreme. In other words, connecting to one specifc harddrive is a problem. It's a WD 2TB USB.
    Help appreciated.

I am having the same issue with mine, and it is also a 2TB drive, but its a Seagate drive.

  • A7-30TC tablet connection to external USB drive

Hi, bit of a rookie here! I have copied about 70GB of music from my PC to a 500GB external hard drive, which I now want to connect to my tablet so I can play the music.
However, the tablet either doesnt recognise the external storage at all (it doesn't appear in file browser or under storage), or it gives me an error message saying that the storage is empty or an incompatibe file system.
I need to be able to acess the drive for music (and video) whilst traevllig abroad.
I also tried conntecting up an old 256 MB USB stick and this also didnt work.
    Any help gratefully received!
    Thanks
    Rich

Lenovo's Android tablets don't support exFAT or NTFS on external drives or sd cards.  It'll only work if you format the drive as FAT32.

  • AEBS Erratic behavior when connecting to attached USB Drives in XP

I have the old 10 100 version of the AEBS. I have always had problems with connecting to the attached USB (3) drives on a powered USB adapter. I have spent hours on the phone with Apple Support and eventually Apple released new firmware for the AEBS. This seemed to correct the connection problem for my iMac under Leopard. The AEBS does show in the Finder and I can connect to it with no problems. When I use my XP pc, the story is entirely different.
There seems to be several problems and maybe someone can help me with this.
Every time I shut down the XP machine, I have to remap the drives to letters X. Y, and Z. At times I am simply asked for the password to the AEBS to connect. At other times I have to disconnect the mapped drives (they no longer work but still show in explorer) then remap them again. This will work some times but most of the time I will get a message saying the network connection is unplugged (this is the AEBS restarting as I no longer have access on my iMac) and the mapping process will fail. This should be a simple process and I should be able to access the 3 drives either by mapping them or going through the network connections in Explorer.
Does anyone know why this process of mapping drives on the XP machine would keep restarting the AEBS? Is there any way to permanently keep the connection to the AEBS 3 hard drives when I reboot the XP machine?

I would also like to do this, but in the meantime, here is my question for you: How did you connect multiple hard drives to the AEBS? Did you just use a USB hub, or did you successfully link the two drives? I have one enclosure that has a USB, and that one is connected and working with the AEBS, but i would like to connect another one also, but it only has FW ports. I tried to link the two together with FW, but the FW HDD isn't showing up. I would be willing to get a new enclosure for that drive, if I was sure it wold work through a hub...
