Lost contacts when upgrading ios and merging to cloud

I recently upgraded to iOS ver 6.0  Came to a question to "merge with Cloud".  I had not intentionally used iCloud before but assuming merge ment the union of what was on iCloud and what was on phone, checked yes.
All my contacts were lost!  on the phone.  I have gone through the advice to turn off contacts/cloud etc to no avail.
The original data is not on the icloud.com!
Is there any way to recover original contacts?
thanks!

They will be in whatever program/cloud service you have been syncing.
If you have failed to sync them, then they are likely gone.
You can try restoring from backup.

I have just updated to i0S on my iphone and have lost all my Contacts- when I try and sync from my computer it says that my Contacts have been disabled - help!

Have you tried the usual cures such as resetting your phone or backing it up then restoring from the backup?

  • Since upgrade ios  and iTunes can't access homeshare on ipad

Since upgrade ios and iTunes can't access homeshare on ipad. I see 'share', when using music app on iPad. I click on it and then select my MacBook Pro. Circle starts goes half way the stops. My Apple TV works great. So iTunes on MacBook must be set up right.  Videos app is similar, the circle just spins and spins. My wifi is an apple airport. I beginning to think I have invested badly. I have signed out and in  again of home share on iPad and MacBook  as advised. I have read and re-read. Is there a solution?

    Hello Gary,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Home Sharing.  It sounds like you are not able to access iTunes from your iPad using Home Sharing.  I found an article with steps that I think would help with this issue.
I recommend reviewing the full article below, but I think steps 4-7 are specifically useful for what you described:

  • Lost Contact when I upgraded to 7.5.2/iOS5

When I upgraded to 10.7.2/iOS5, my wife's iPhone3GS address book was lost. I thought I had backed it up via iTunes (under her phone designation), but when I finished the conversion, her iPhone3GS had MY AddressBook/Contacts. Note: My iPhone4 AddressBook converted accurately. Can I get her contacts back from Time Machine?

Unfortunately, the loss is a result of upgrading to 10.7.2 and iOS5. Throw into the mix that I've updated my iTunes as well to 10.5. All this was done to lead into a smooth transition to iCloud and all the features of the OS updates. Like I said, my contacts in Address Book and on my iPhone4 Contacts went well. It's my wife's information that was lost and replaced with MY contacts. Her iPhone3GS is running iOS5 now. Since I've been syncing her phone since before the transition, I was hoping to retrieve her contacts from Time Machine prior to Oct.12.
Is THAT possible? How do I achieve this?

  • Lost sound when upgraded to Windows

I lost sound when I upgraded my Gateway Solo250 from Windows 98 to Windows XP Home. On Device manager, the systems reports that my sound controls are working but the Multimedia Audio Controller is not installed (Problem 28). I have downloaded drivers from Gateway and from Creative Labs Sound Blaster Li've but can not install them. I get the error message that no sound card is being detected. What happened? How do I fix this without messing up anything else, since the computer is operating smoothly, except without sound. Thanks for your help!

I have the exact same problem. I got numbers off of the creative chip on the motherboard, if that helps to get a solution. Gateway lists that XP is not supported on solo250. Creative is the only source that can solve this, since all of these companies laid off all of the developers. Did you find any help at all? I would hate to go back to win98...

  • Is there a format for a file that I can use for attaching a one page document with photos embedded that will open in everyone's email automatically?   I've tried PDF and Word, but worked only in Mail.  Lost formatting when just copied and pasted in email.

Is there a format for a file that I can use for attaching a one page document with photos embedded that will open in everyone's email automatically?   I've tried PDF and Word, but PDF worked only in Mail.  Word worked in nothing.  I also tried copying and pasting the document but lost all formatting when just copied and pasted in email.  Is there a way to do this?

Are you sure PDF won't work? It should as what you're trying to do is pretty much what it is designed for (PDF - Portable Document Format). On a Mac anywone who receives the file should be able to see it in all its page layout glory by using the app Preview or Adobe Reader. Same on a PC, the file should be viewable as a PDF file using Adobe Reader and probably some other viewer (don't use PCs so not sure what other apps).
What application are you creating the file in and are you sure you're exporting it correctly in PDF format, fonts and images embedded?

The solution I found was to uninstall/reinstall everything which depends on ghc:
    pacman -Qi ghc
    pacman -Rdd ghc haskell-mtl haskell-random haskell-syb haskell-transformers haskell-utf8-string haskell-x11 haskell-x11-xft xmonad xmonad-contrib <any other dependencies here>
    pacman -Syyu ghc haskell-mtl haskell-random haskell-syb haskell-transformers haskell-utf8-string haskell-x11 haskell-x11-xft xmonad xmonad-contrib <any other dependencies here>
Probably not ideal, but the digging I did to use ghc to fix the problem turned up nothing.
By the way, a litmus test to determine if your Haskell setup is sane:
    xmonad --recompile
    should not return any errors.

  • DBCA Producing ORA 12547 TNS lost contact when I try to create a database

    Hi all!
I just installed Oracle 11GR2 (only software not creating a database) on Oracle Linux 6.4 64 Bit via Oracle VM VirtualBox. I created a new Listener to create a database. It looks working. But when I try to create a new database with dcba; I had an ORA-12547 TNS lost contact after I had specified all options for creating the database. I'm too new to get what's going on here. Already, the Oracle Software has occured a few errors while the installation. But the software has been installed successfully at the end. Maybe I went wrong from the beginning. What should I do about managing that ORA error? Can anybody suggest me something?
Btw I have installed the all installations with information on this link: ORACLE-BASE - Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2) Installation On Oracle Linux 6
If we consider that I did nothing after those installation, what should the next step be to create a database successfully?

  • Lost contacts after upgrading to IOS 8.1.2

Just upgraded to latest IOS on my iphone 4s. To my dismay all my contacts are gone! I am desperate to get them back. My phone was backed up to the cloud, I assume they are retrievable there, however I can't get into my account as it says" your account has been disabled due to security reasons". When I ask for new password to be sent, it does not send to any emails that I currently have, I can't think of where it is going. As for security questions, that is not working either. I was on the phone with apple techs ( 3 of them) and they say they can't reset my email? I don't get it? All i need is to have my password reset...
    thanks

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Your contacts may well return once you are able to log into your iCloud account.
If you are unable to remember your password, security questions, don’t have access to your rescue address or are unable to reset your password for whatever reason, your only option is to contact Apple ID Support, upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.
You will need to show patience with the procedure and be prepared to demonstrate without question that the account belongs to you. Don’t expect access to be restored immediately and if you aren’t the owner of the Apple ID registered to the device the account won’t be reset.

  • Lost Contacts after Upgrade and Mobile Me

After installing the latest iPhone software 2.2 and setting up to do mobile me I lost all of my contacts and phone numbers. Can I do a restore and get all of my contact information back? My contacts were not already on my macbook pro as it is new and I am setting it up as well. NEED HELP!

When turning on over the air syncing for contact info and calendar events with a MobileMe account on an iPhone, there is a warning message provided that indicates all contact info and calendar events on your iPhone will be erased and replaced with your MobileMe online address book and calendar.
You need to sync the Address Book and iCal on your Mac with your MobileMe online address book and calendar first.
The same applies when turning on over the air syncing for contact info and calendar events with an Exchange account.
iTunes creates and maintains a backup for your iPhone which includes contact info. The backup is updated if needed as the first step during the sync process.
Which computer were you syncing your iPhone's contact info with before turning on over the air syncing for contact info with your MM account on your iPhone?
You should be able to sync the supported address book on that computer with your MM online address book, which will be followed by transferring your MM online address book to your iPhone's address book.

  • How can i retrieve my lost contacts after upgrading to iOS 5.1.1

I just upgraded to to the iOS 5.1.1 and a few hours later all my contacts disappeared.  I tried to restore through iTunes but that did not work.  - UPDATE as I am writing this.  I got through to Apple Customer Service and because I had selected the option to backup to my computer (iMac 10.5.8) it was actually saving all my contacts to my "address book" app.  Since I never used that application I didn't even think to look there.  I just re-synced my contacts selecting "all contacts" and I was back in business.

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking, but I'll try to answer!    You can either connect to iTunes and set up and activate there, or you can also use the setup assistant to set up your iPhone.  As far as carrier activation, you'll have to follow the protocol that your carrier uses.  Either switch SIM card, or call the number they use to allow device activation.  Is that what you were wanting to know?

  • Lost contacts, calendars... and ??... after upgrading Mac

I did a clean install on my Mac as I wanted to upgrade clean from Lion to ML.
Now I just realized that all my contacts and calendars (and what else I have not yet discovered) are gone from my iPhone 4S.  My notes are surprisingly still there.
Although historically I have switched from time to time from using iCloud backups to computer, I notice my last update on iCloud was done in February 2013...
New Mac OS was installed on a different HDD (so I would guess if any recent backup be done somewhere in the Mac HDD it might sleep somewhere there, am I right?
Yep I know, I should have gone iCloud all the way or at least do my last backup there before upgrading.  Unsure about the basic 5 GB, this is probably what has always motivated my ''sticking to the Mac'' backup... Now I resignated to purchase an additional 20GB this morning, but for my immediate problem, there's little it can do of course.
I am reading many articles and posts about ways to recover, but they all relate to - let me call it ''normal'' use... Not in the context of someone who jumps from iCloud to computer backup, then maybe even sometimes from a PC (Windows) to a Mac.
Assuming I can still access my old Mac HDD content, is there a file or folder I could simply copy from there and put it somewhere to recover my mistake and sins ?
    Thanks,
    Rob

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.
