Lost data, can I recover it?

I had some pictures sent to me by email, and I imported them into my Iphoto library. The am only aquainted with the sender, but don't believe he would purposely send malicious data. These two applications have now reset - they are asking me setup questions and my data appears to be gone. A virus scan was done and nothing was found. I have a feeling it's related to my problems. Itunes is also asking me setup questions, although the music is still there. I haven't noticed any other applications being affected. Is there a way to recover my pictures and email data? Should I go ahead and go through the setup questions again or will that cause me to permanently lose data that I might not otherwise have lost? Note: I had a few photos on my desktop that I attempted to import into Iphoto, and was asked if I wanted to import duplicate photos. This gives me hope that they aren't really lost.

This was helpful. You are correct - there is my home folder as well as a shared folder. I do use file vault, and when I clicked on that it opened up a folder that included movies, pictures, music and so on. I clicked on the pictures icon, and there were all my pictures. YAYY!!!! So, my question now is, do I still go through all the setup questions? How can I get my pictures back into the Iphoto folder on my application? I think we're almost there. You're so helpful!

If I accidentally remove a diary date can I recover it or go back?

Yes. Sometimes I accidentally delete or move it. Then it automatically syncs to my other apple products so I don't know what dates or appointments !

  • New phone old data. can i recover new stuff?

i lost my i3g. got a 4gs used it to take pics for work. when i got home i sinced it as new device. then i realized it wiped out the photos i took recently and installed the old ones. Is there any way to recover the ones i took?please help. thank you

I think you should use iPhone photos and contacts recovery software to get them back.
Follow the 'Recover Lost contacts from iTunes backup files' steps:
    1. Run iPhone Data Recovery for iOS.
    2. Choose“Recover from iTunes Backup File”.
    3. Start to scan your iTunes backup file for lost data on it. Please click “Start Scan” to begin scanning it.
    4. After the scan, you can preview all data found on your device(eg. iPhone 4s) in the scan result. Click the categories on the left side of the window like camera roll, contacts, messages, etc. You can preview all the details of them (except for videos). Mark what you want and click “Recover” to save them on your computer with one click.
You can try to recover lost contacts from iPhone directly if the above way does not work.

  • Soundbooth "generic error", recover lost files, huge file lost, how can I recover them?

Hello, I am using Soundbooth CS5 on Windows 7.  I have been editing this .asnd file for some time. I have been saving and editing and saving and opening each day.  However, today, I went to open it, and got "generic error".  The entire file will not open.  Also, when I checked on its properties, it said it was only 2kb, where in fact it was huge with multiple other files in it.  Those files, by the way? They are all missing too.  It isn;t a virus.  I opened the file in the morning, it was fine, did work, saved it, never turned off the computer, came back later, opened it again to do work, then it gave me the error.  Plus, all of the subfiles disappeared as well.
How can I recover these lost files, because I dilligently save. Where would they be stored? How can I find them?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, iCloud notes are not included in backups, because they are synced between devices, this means you won't be able to restore them.

  • Argh, lost data, can someone help

A week ago or so I updated to the iOS 4 on my iPhone 3GS. Pretty smooth update, everything seemed to be working, expect I had zero data services. Email, web, etc, all down. Voicemail did not work, SMS did, but MMS did not. I am on AT&T.
I did some googling around, and found that some others were experiencing this. Apparently it is suspected that this can be caused by jailbreaking your phone. I have never jailbroken my phone, and have no desire to. After playing with friends phones who have, there is no reason, and I feel it is a sub par experience. Though the fee for tethering has be considering it.
I had to do a complete wipe of the phone; starting over. Any time I restore my data, the problem comes back, no data.
I have mostly come to terms with it, entered in my passwords again, was not that into games, so not a lot was lost. There are two things I want back.
One thread of SMS messages, and the state of my timer in the clock.
Does anyone know how I can get just those two features back? I have had no future communications with the one contact I want to restore the SMS settings with, so there should be no merging needing to be done.
The timer is an experiment I was running since the first day of the release of the first gen iPhone, and I can not start that experiment over, until Apple invents a real Time Machine for me to go back in time.
I am on a Macintosh. Any suggestions?

One approach is to go from a backup of your Home folder. I assume you do backups. (:-> Look in there for the folder "yourHomefolder" -> Library -> Safari. In that folder will be the older copy of your bookmarks.plist, which you can open with TextEdit or another text editor. Lots of gobbledeygook in there (non-ASCII fields), but you can used a Find commend in TextEdit to find the text of your now lost bookmark.
If you have no backup, look at the current copy of this file on your disk, which may still have the now deleted stuff (if you haven't closed Safari already since the bookmark was trashed).
And if those don't help click on the bookmarks symbol in the Bookmarks Bar (the book symbol, left-had side), then on the left margin click "History", about the fifth item down from the top. Any history that still exists is there, and you can use Find (Apple-F) to locate any visits you made to that site.

  • Reboot + lost data - how to recover?

    Hi all
I forgot my login password and looked up online a few ways to reset it. I restarted my machine, held down Command + R, followed instructions (from online) and rebooted it.
It then went through the set-up process and I have lost all data completely including my users settings.
Can I find these again or have I accidentally deleted them forever?
Very worried and would appreciate advice!
    Macbook Pro, 10.6.8
    Thanks

Just found this answer which solved it - phew!

  • Accidentally removed sync data, can I recover?

I recently reinstalled Ubuntu. I opened Firefox preferences and tried to add my sync account.
I selected the option saying I didn't have my device with me, and proceeded. Next I entered my details and saw that something called a 'recovery key' was needed. I didn't remember seeing this before (and I've been using sync since it was called weave), so I clicked "Don't remember" and then "Generate new key".
It said it was succesful and that it would start syncing. But none of my data came through. I started getting worried. I searched the Internet and found this http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Replace%20your%20Sync%20information.
So it looks like all my years of data online has been removed without warning me. Sure, I should have backed up the data (and in fact I do have an older backup), but this still shouldn't happen without warning me. It's a big shock.
Has this happened to anyone else? Is there anything I can do about this?

It's not a good idea to post your email address on the Internet.
No, once you delete something from the iPad it is gone.

  • IPhoto crashed during sync, photos lost .. can I recover?

So I plugged my iPhone in, iTunes opens & I open iPhoto. Whilst iPhoto syncs I choose to delete photos once it's finished. Stupidly started doing something else at the same time and then both iTunes & iPhoto crash. I end up having to restart. Look at my phone and all 100 photos have gone .. check iPhoto and they are not there either
There are a load of text files that look like they should be the images, but they're not.
Is there any way to restore lost photos? (I don't think the iTunes sync had finished up either so I can't restore to a previous time). Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Imogen

If you took the photos with your phone, they might be still part of your last iphone backup, if you did not back up after the crash. "About backups": http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766

  • Redo logs lost - how can i recover?

My redo01.log and redo02.log have been accidentally deleted. Please - Is there a way to recreate them or recover them without recreating the whole database?
My Oracle originally 8.05 upgraded to 8.1.7 on Windows NT 4.0
    Olav Torvund

    I had Group 1 , 3 and 4 besides the difficult group 2.
When I do a select * from V$log; Group 2 is the current and the other 3 have status 'unused'.
the database is mounted but not open.
I tried what you said last:
    ALTER DATABASE DROP LOGFILE GROUP 2;
    and Oracle says:
ORA-01623: log 2 is current log for thread 1 - cannot drop
    ORA-00312: online log 2 thread 1: 'D:\ORADATA\DATA2\REDO02.LOG'
so it still points to the non-existing file.
    Anything else i can try?
    Appreciate your help

  • Lost photos- can I recover thumbnails?

My wife made the seemingly common Picassa error and deleted all our photos. Fortunately I managed to recover nearly all. Those that are missing though still appear as thumbnails with broken links in Adobe PhotoShop Starter Edition 3.0. I figure a thumbnail size pic is better than none. Can I save the thumbnails stored in the database as .jpg files? I don't want to lose them permanently if PSA crashes or if I upgrade or remove it.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
A possible though not very elegant solution to your problem:-
Start the program and expand to full screen.
Do a show all to get your thumbnails for the missing photos on screen
Select one of the thumbnails and double click - this will expand it to fill most of the display area
A "Reconnect Missing Files" dialog box will popup - close it
you now have the expanded thumbnail on display - the quality will not be great but it is better than nothing
Press "Prt SC" key (part of the top right small cluster on keyboard) - this will copy the whole window to the clipboard.
Now open Paint (the windows default image editor- under the accessories menu)
paste the copy into the paint window
cut out all the extra Adobe stuff around your image
Save as - I suggest a lossless format such as .bmp or .tif since saving as a jpg will further degrade your image.
If you are happy with just the original thumbnail size you do not need to expand them just copy the thumbnails screen and then cut them out individually
    Hope this helps
    Bill

  • Can i recover lost data from encrypted drive by Bitlocker

Hello Dears. I had encrypted my drive by Bitlocker in windows 7.
few days after my friend did quick format in my encrypted drive.
my 300 gb of data lost. and nothing saved
    i remember unlock password.
how can i recover my data ??? i need my data
i tried drive recovering tools (advanced EFS data recovery, easeus . . ,) . but . . . it's encrypted and formatted drive.
can i undo quick format and decrypt ???
sorry my english is not good.
    someone help me please.

BitLocker is not the cause of failed to recover files.
Format a drive will clear all data saved on the hard disk. Thus recovery formatted data will be a hard disk based technology but not related to operation system. There is no build-in data recovery feature in Windows operations. So we will needto use third party recovery tool or contact third party data recovery company for current issue.
As recovery missing data service will be expensive, we can also check emails and contact friends to see if that can help get a part of files back especially for photos, documents etc.

I have just updated my phone in icloud and I have lost all my data including my large music collection from itunes. How can I recover my music and phone list?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option which is revealed in the iTunes app on your iOS device by tapping the more button at the bottom of the screen.
