Lost Data on Macbook Pro

After I could not boot my Macbook Pro (OS X Lion 10.7.5) I tried to run safe boot. I thought it worked, but only thing it did was booting the mac without any data i used to have. All the software is there. It's like a brand new mac with full applications. My storage seems as full as before so I know the data is somewhere inside my Macbook. How can I find them? (I'm still logged in as I always were and there seems to be no other accounts)
I downloaded data rescue demo to scan. But for some reason my HD can't be scanned. When I tried Disk Warrior it says "Directory cannot be rebuild because this is the startup disk"
Trash is empty and spotlight does not come up with any data.
I know the ways that requires payment, but I (with my ignorant logic) conclude that since my storage is still seems full with everything I have I may not need it.

Your profile indicates your Mac has v10.7 Lion installed.
If that is correct, in order to repair the startup disk, you need restart while holding down the Command + R keys in order to access the built in utilities in OS X Recovery
Then hopefully you can restore your data a backup.

ok - since you'll be sharing it with a PC - connect it to your windows pc - then format from there - instead of NTFS format - choose exFAT.

I already tried C12, no luck. I did read C17, but that did not help either.
I agree that Apple should really spend a bit more time on ensuring this common problem is resolved more quickly
But where to do you sent this request to? Doesn't seem easy to find a person to send it to.
I dumped by corporate wIn-pc environment that I was forced to use for the past ...forever. Have been delighted with the Mac experience..... for 24 months..but these type of un-resolved matters with terse error messages reminds me of the bad old days.
I had the problem 2 weeks ago and solved it by "clicking about" after reading the forum Can't remember what i did though. V. V. V. frustrating when the Mac is a business tool. I don't want to be a mechanic, I want to be a driver.

The last few days my time capsule reports an error The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data-1/MacBook Pro.sparsebundle” is already in use.
To make things worse I seem to be loosing my screen so need to make a back up ASAP

Make sure that no other Macs are backing up at the time.
Pull the power cord from the back of the Time Capsule
Count to ten
Plug the power cord back into the back of the Time Capsule
This will fix the issue about 98% of the time. If you are in the unlucky 2% category, please post back for more assistance

This should work, how did you do? Explain ‘I can’t transfer my files’. You are in the new mac, the older mac is connected via wl network or eth, it is detected and mounted, and does not work?
Firewire would be better, probably with a 400-to-800 fw adapter (6 to 9 pin).

How I can back up my data from macbook pro that its hard drive seems to die soon?

     I need your help guys from the whole world.
I am now in Erbil (North Iraq) and there is no apple authorized resellers or anyone who can fix macs, they can destroy them as they try to repair it ( this is what happened      to me recently with My I phone and I pad). So I am left alone to fix it with your global help I hope.
The issue is, I didn't do back up on my mac book pro for over a year. I woke up 3 days ago, switched my mac and there was this funny pinc ponc noise coming from the lower right hand side of my mac (between track pad and keyboard), the computer was going slow and I wasnt able to do anything even after few restarts. It is always too slow to perform anything and this noise always start after few seconds of starting and keep going. the computer can still function very well on guest account *(safari only) and I don't hear the noise then nor when I press T. But if I try to log in to all my drive or in safe mode I get this noise and none function computer. when I went to disk utility there was message in red to back up my data immediately and take the hard drive to authorized service center.
I checked on internet, you tube and others..and it seems I have faulty hard drive. Since I am here alone and no service center so I think I will replace it myself. But first thing first i need to back up my precious data. I found few ways of doing this and I wonder if you can give me some tips, advise or any other method to do the back up.
1) Transfer data on target mode: I havent done this before but I am thinking to connect my faulty macbook pro to another with firewire, pressing T on the faulty Mac and install Super Duper on the other mac. Then I connect external hard drive to the working mac via USB. And the question is     :      can I transfer the files this way to an external bootable hard drive connected to the working mac     , so the working mac will function as bridge between faulty mac and external hard drive. Also can I do this process through my old none intel based power book(which I am using now) instead of borrowing macbook from friend?
2) Buy new hard drive, open my mac and replace the faulty one. then put the faulty one in external inclosure, connect to refurbished mac and transfer data back. Can I do this? will I need to install the mac os from the CD associated with it before I do transfer?
Is there any other way to do this please?

Then install same on your guest account, that wouldnt matter, since Superduper clones everything (except the recovery partition which you dont need in your case right now).

there is no software fix for HD hardware failure, ......this is why a backup copy of data is so very important all the time, period.

Lost sound on macbook pro

Hi Macfriends,
Running Macbook pro, 2.2 ghz, system 10.4.11. Latest updates installed. Had portable speakers plugged in (worked fine). After removing them i lost ability to adjust sound. I cannot move the slider bar (it is very light in color) and I can't grab it. Have played with sound preferences--it is not on mute...have tried restarting, disk utility says no problems. the slider bar is at top (loudest) but i can't grab it. The preference panel says "Digital Out----built in output". Am I missing something obvious.....Any thoughts? All help will be appreciated! THANKS!!! Joe

UPDATE----FIXED IT!
I plugged the speakers back in and the headphone showed up under output in sound preference panel. Plugged in and out couple times and "internal speakers" showed up. I selected it and wooo-la, it resolved itself! All is fine again in macland!!!!

I believe that when you boot your computer for the first time and you are following the onscreen instructions you are prompted whether you want to transfer data from an old mac or PC. If you click 'transfer from an old mac' and follow the onscreen instructions, this may work.
If you have already skipped this step you could use iCloud to transfer data. If you make sure that everything you want to transfer is synced in iCloud, this may also work.

Recover data unbootable macbook pro hd onto external hd

2013 macbook pro got stuck installing mavericks with the error saying that it couldnt install because disk is damaged. restarted in recovery mode and tried to repair from disk utility but after hitting verify disk and repair disk it says it cannot repair the disk. tried to restart in safe mode to delete the installer download completely and start fresh but while starting up the computer just shuts off. i know i can reinstall mountain lion and then do a clean install of mavericks but i do not have a back up. so my question is how can i recover the data from Macintosh HD onto an external hard drive before reinstalling mountain lion and wiping everything?
