Lost disk ram

I had to reinstall tiger. I choose the wrong drive accidentally and then reinstalled again on the proper drive. I trashed the 2 files labeld previous systems and now seemed to be missing hard disk space. When adding up my folders, I am using 26.16 GB of ram and have 7.72 GB available. Total = 33.88 GB. The drive is 120 GB. Is there a way to get back the lost ram.

If you find you have something generating a lot of large logfiles, it might be time to leave your machine on overnight in Screen Saver as opposed to Energy Saver or use Macjanitor:

  • Somehow I lost Disk Utilities on my hard drive (OSX10.9.5) how do I get another copy

Somehow I lost Disk Utilities on my hard drive, Ive searched and it just doesn't exist anywhere. (OSX10.9.5) how do I get another copy?

Thanks Neil.  No, of course there was no backup to restore from, but the Command + R worked like a charm (after a mirror backup, just in case) .
I had totally forgotten the Command R trick. I've only had Macs since 1984, so I'm sort of  newbie here ;-)  Just a brain **** from an old man.
    Again thanks!

  • Time Machine cannot find internal backup disk.Lost disk image in Finder for internal backup volume.  OS 10.7.3.

Lost disk image in Finder (Desktop) for backup disk on Intel Mac Pro OS 10.7.3. Time Machine cannot find the internal backup disk. The volume is grayed out in Disk Utility, though it CAN verify the volume. How do I get it back on my desktop?

First, restart the Time Capsule by disconnecting the power adapter and reconnecting it. If other devices on the network can see it, you can skip this step.
    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Network
Click the lock icon in the lower left corner of the window and authenticate to unlock the settings, if necessary. Click the Advanced button, then select the TCP/IP tab in the sheet that drops down. Click Renew DHCP lease.
    Try again to back up.

  • Hard disk / RAM requirement for Oracle RAC

I'm using the following configuration for RAC
    Oracle 10gR2
    VMware Server
    Host Server - Linux CentOS
Two Guest Servers - Linux CentOS
Now I'm trying with Pentium 4 and 1 GB RAM. But it is very slow and even hard to finish full RAC step.
What is the best hard disk / RAM configuration to support above specs?
    Kindly advise me.
    Thanks
    Karti

i am using 3 gb RAM, 160 GB hard disk, intel Due core processor. Its working fine for 10gR2 same as you mentioned os & oracle version.
i dont know the minimum RAM Size, but i have seen tarry singh's RAC installation DEMO in dbasupport site with 2 GB RAM size.
so you need atleast 2 GB RAM. Minimum 1 GB for each guest OS.
i am new to RAC. wait for expert's reply.

    thanks for any help.
My powerbook is not an intel one, its the previous one

If you attempt to install an operating system with third party peripherals attached, the installer may not have drivers for that peripheral.
If you attempt to install an operating system with bad RAM or RAM that isn't to spec, that may also cause problems.
If you attempt to install an operating system with insufficient hard disk space, or RAM, that can also be a problem.
I'd have your friend start a new thread so we can troubleshoot his issue. My FAQ here may be applicable:

  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 LOST DISK

    Hello
I purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 in March of last year.
I've purchased a new computer this week and need to reload the software but I've lost the disk.
Is there a way to get the license key out of the software installed on my old PC and download or purchase a second disk?
I think I may have to purchase the software again, but I live in hope!
    Thank you.

It may be a long shot but if you copied the installer folder from the disk to some drive or external drive, then you can install the same build from there and the serial number will work.
But, for PSE 7, if you download the build from internet and enter the serial number which has been provided on the disk then it will NOT work.
A serial number which is present on disk will work only with the DVD build. The downloaded build needs different kind of serial number.

  • Lost disk space after each reinstall.

I've had to reinstall leopard on my macbook three times in the last week for different reasons. After each reinstall(erase and install) it appeared that I lost a little more GB to the HDD. I have a 250GB HDD, and I know it actualls reads as 232.87, but without uploading any media and only using the reinstall disks that came with the box, I have only 218 or so GB. Is this normal? I can't find the numbers anywhere; they just don't add up.

    Anthony Turtzo wrote:

My guess is that you have added up the sizes of the folders visible in Finder at the root level of the drive (Applications, Library, System, & Users) & compared that total to the total space used on the drive. The two numbers will not match because there are also hidden files & folders at the root level of the drive that Finder does not normally show. The hidden items are necessary for the proper operation of the Mac & in normal use are managed by the system. Since users should not tamper with them directly without good reason & it requires expert knowledge to do so without breaking anything, they have been made invisible in the Finder view.
It is normal for the drive space used by these items to fluctuate, & for the total to grow somewhat after first installing the OS. Some of the items contain temporary files that are created & destroyed as needed. Some contain usage, crash, & other informational logs that are managed by routines that the system automatically runs periodically to keep their total from becoming too large. Others contain initialization data gathered over time that the system uses to start up or to run processes efficiently.
Thus, there is no fixed correct number for their total size since that depends on the history & current state of the machine. On my iMac G5, one large hidden folder ("var") currently uses about 1.05 GB of drive space, but consider that only a ballpark number since it may be considerably different on different Macs at different times.
If you are still concerned about the health of the drive, especially that something is eating up disk space unnecessarily, then run Disk Utility to check it. In the "First Aid" tab select your drive & click the "Verify Disk" button. If this reports no problems then you can be pretty sure there is nothing to worry about.

  • Startup Disk & RAM

    hi.
for months now, i've been getting a "startup disk full" warning on my ibook. i've deleted much - languages, programs i don't use, files i no longer need, etc. i also upgraded my RAM at this time - thinking this would resolve my problem. i now have loads of memory on my ibook, but the same "startup disk full" problem.
available hd space: 1.58 GB (out of 27.82 GB)
    RAM: built-in - 256 MB, recently installed - 512 MB
this is an ibook G4, OSX - 10.3.9
my question is this - is there anything that can be stored on the RAM that's currently on the hard drive & how do i move it?
secondary question - i have a 512 MB USB JumpDrive... can i store anything on that to free up some of this space?
i have a lot of music, podcasts, etc, as well as photos on my laptop. i'm not sure what else is taking up so much room.
    thanks for your help. durbie
    ibook g4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi durbie, & likewise, Welcome.
In addition to John's excellent advice, there are Applications, language support files and printer drivers that you can delete to free up space.
For example, on my iBook, I have removed GarageBand from Apps and its Loops from HD>Library>Application Support. As my iBook only has a combo drive and I'm not into video editing anyway I have trashed iDVD (Not DVD player). I have also trashed preloaded games and World Book, and its associated files.
Language support files can be removed using Monolingual. Do not remove any English language files, though.
Printer drivers are in the HD>Library>Printers folder. You can safely delete any named drivers that you don't have a printer for. For example, if you have a Canon, you can remove Epson, Lexmark, Hewlett Packard drivers. Epson alone takes up in excess of 1gb. You can even remove specific drivers from within the manufacturer's folder. For example, if you have an Epson C86 you can safely trash any other specific drivers in the Epson folder like C46, C66 etc. If, at a later date, you buy a printer whose driver you removed they can be added from your install disk, the disk that comes with the printer or downloaded.
Check, too, in your music folder. It is possible that you have, say, 'xyz song' in the first level of your Music folder and the same song in Music>iTunes>iTunes Library. If you are sure that you do have 'xyz song' in iTunes, it is safe to delete from 'Music'. The same applies to Pictures and iPhoto Library.
When you have finished dumping your unwanted stuff in the trash, don't forget to empty it. You haven't regained the space until you do
Lastly, if in doubt, ask. No-one here will mind answering a post such as "Is it safe to trash 'This App' or 'That File'". We have all had to learn. For myself the vast proportion of my learning has been here.
    Have fun!

  • Adobe Elements 11 Premiere , have serial number but lost disk

How do I install this from website? I lost the disk, but i do have the serial number....any help would be appreciated. Thanks!- Marc

You can download the trial version and use your serial number to activate it to full use.  If you are unable to find it on the Adobe site, look for it at the site linked below.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site or else the download will not work properly.

  • Upgraded to Leopard and lost disks...forgot the admin password. anyone know how to reset in single-user mode?

I received some instructions but they did not work. Does anyone know how to reset this?

1 - Does it boot into Leopard?
2 - Does it have any important data on it that is not backed up elsewhere?
It it boots into Leopard you could continue using it and hope that you find your Leopard install disks later or discover some other way to overcome the lost password.
If it is fully backed up or has no important data on it you could install Tiger.

  • Adobe CS3 Design Standard for Mac - lost disks

    Hi!
Situation: I'm buying a new mac, and do not want to use Migration Assistant to transfer my software (mainly as I'd like to do a clean install and not migrate a load of junk that may be on my older mac).
I have lost my cs3 install disks. I'm a registered and licensed cs3 design standard user.
I've looked at the forums and contacted Adobe.
No replacement disks can be sent for legacy software, so Adobe cannot help.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I dud see one post where a forum member offered assistance, but what the assistance/solution was I'm not sure as the discussion was closed/taken offsite.
Someone had suggested downloading cs3 from a torrent site, but I'm not at all keen on doing that.
Any suggestions or advice much appreciated, and yes, I'll take better care of my install disks in the future :o))).
(In my defence, lame as it is, when I bought cs3, I did see they offered replacement disks for a fee. I didn't realise this was only for current software).
    Regards,
    Venkat

CS3 is too old to run on a new Macintosh laptop, sorry. You'll have to purchase CS6 or a Creative Cloud subscription.

  • Need to install ipod, lost disk to install!

I have an ipod mini and I have a new computer and when I try to load my ipod it says it isn't installed for windows, but I've lost my disk. Does anyone know a link to where I can download the installation??

If you download the most recent iTunes; the software will install now for the ipod updater and when you plug in the mini; iTunes knows this. Just stay on line to get any iPod updates for the mini. You might what to try a restore.
Be sure all your music is in your new computer.
You don't need the disk anymore. Paula
