Lost Document file on Dock

Somehow my kids have taken the documents file off my dock... does anyone know how to get it back?

If you open Mail>Preferences>General, you'll see "+Downloads folder+", change it to your documents folder.
You might also want to look into, ~/Library/Mail Downloads and see if anything resides in there.
FYI the ~ sign means your home folder.

I am having major trouble trying to get photos into IPhoto.  On my old macbook, I just had to hit the IPhoto button - I have hundreds of photos and events but now I have this MacPro when I hit the Iphoto button the photos just "disappear" into a document file on the dock and the photos are all contained in some kind of arcs....I'm not computer literate and spent 2 years in one on one just learning IPhoto  Could some one out there please help me.?

What version of iPhoto are you using?  Where are the photos coming from that go into the document on the Dock?  What iPhoto button are you referring to?

  • Lost document files after Mavericks install

After Mavericks install from App Store, document folders located in Dock are replaced with question mark icon; unable to locate files in Trash, iCloud, or Finder.
While I appreciate feedback on backups, never have had issues losing files before when installing apps from App Store.  Please advise.

I have the same problem. It just accured today, and i updated to Mavericks several weeks ago. I cant open several folders in Finder but when i right click on them it say that they contain eg. 5 Gbit... But i still cant see/open anything in some folders.
Also yesterday (right before i realised the Finder problem) my computer was slow and acting weird so I tried restaring it, and after it sayed that my start-up-drive (or somting like that) was nearly full. It wouldnt start propoly after that, but then after a few goes I got it to work... I have no clue whats going on really..

  • Placing document file on Dock

I have accidentally dragged my Documents folder from the Dock. How do I replace that folder to the Dock. I'm used to it "fanning out" with the contents.

    You're quite welcome.
Happy Holidays to you and your family.

  • Lost Document folder from dock

Hello,  How do I get my Documents folder back into the dock?  I initially tried to drag it to a new location on the dock, but it then disappeared.  It is in Finder; tried some variouis maneuvers to drag it to the doc, but it doesn't stay there.  Thank you.  Jane S

    Hi Jane
You have to move the folder next to the trash - there is a small gray line - there you can move folders - applications can be added to the left of the gray line.

  • How to get back the standard document file on my dock

I accidentally moved the standard document file off my Dock and it "puffed" away. I found all the documents in the finder and got them to my desktop in one file, but when I tried to put it back on the Dock, it also remained on my desktop. When I threw that one away, and began to work with a document in my file on the Dock, it would not let me save--saying the original file was in the trash. I pulled it out of the trash and it remains on my desktop. Now I'm wondering how can I get that standard document file back on my Dock so that I can work with it properly. Thankfully nothing is lost--it's just not working as easily. Any thoughts?

Put the original back in your home folder where it should be.
Then drag it directly to the Dock being very careful not to release the mouse until the other icons move out of the way for it and the placeholder line appears.
That will create an alias in the Dock and your original will still be in your home folder.

  • Some files in "DOCUMENTS" icon in dock won't open. Get msg saying You need a newer version of Pages to open this document." Have Pages 4.1 installed.  Same files will open ok from Finder, Pages App. Recently sync'd with ipad2 (Pages) after iOS5 installed.

Some files in "DOCUMENTS" icon in dock won't open. Get msg saying "You need a newer version of Pages to open this document." Already have Pages 4.1 installed.  Same files will open ok from Finder/Pages App./selected file. Prob not noted until recently after sync'd with ipad2 (Pages) when I installed iOS5. Anyone-- please?!

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Rate/review Pages 5.2 in the App Store.

Any way to recover the data?
MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   MacBook

Contact Apple support - they can answer that type of questions - we are just users here like yourself
BTW - it is best not to order when you have errors - to resolve that error place a single space in the subject text box
    and always
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.

  • Please help me recover a lost PDF file from Adobe Reader XI

    Hi,
I was filling out a VA form 5655 in Adobe, and twice today, I lost my file and I just cannot type all of this stuff again, because I had to do so much math and typing and more math.  All of a sudden "bloop", it was gone.  When I try to go into file, then revert, revert is not highlighted.  I tried pulling up history and it said there was no history.  I just don't know what else to do, and I need this for the morning.  Please help?  Thanks

    Hi Pat,
I filled it out directly from the blank PDF online, and never got a chance
to save the whole document.  I did however save it about 1/2 way through,
but yet cannot find that 1/2 of the document either.  Thanks.

  • File from dock vanishes

Hi, I had a Documents file in the dock. I dragged it out of the dock to desktops and when I released it it vanished with an animated cloud of smoke. I cannot find it, it's gone. PLEASE HELP, I'm freaking out......

File or do you mean a folder named Documents? The action you took is the normal way to remove things off the Dock. If you really meant a folder, open your home folder, select the Documents folder, and drag it back to the Dock (standard way to put stuff there).

  • Moving my "My Documents" file, in its entirety, to new hard drive

I've asked this before, and I have received responses, but I think I'd better ask again before I do it, because it seems iTunes and iPod are so user unfriendly that I could lose everything I have in the process.
I just bought an external hard drive because my C drive is nearly full. I want to move my ENTIRE My Documents folder (which is very large due to music, photos and videos) from the C drive into this new hard drive (my H drive.) I was led to an Apple web site that supposedly tells me how do this, but at the end, the directions say, "After the folder has been copied, locate your original iTunes Music folder, and drag it to the Trash or Recycle Bin. Note: Don't remove the iTunes 4 Music Library files that may be in the same location as the iTunes Music folder." I assume those two files are the ones called "iTunes Library" and "iTunes Music Library", right? I don't know what the "4" means on the instructions. Now, does that mean that I cannot move my entire My Documents file onto the new external drive, just because this folder has to remain in the same site? The presence of these 2 files require that My Documents stays in my C drive? I just find that hard to believe. As you can tell, I am lost. Can I just drag and drop the entire My Documents folder from my C drive to my new H drive, and then somehow tell iTunes where everything is?
    Thanks in advance.
    Dave Schwartz

The default location is c:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes. If you were to move the library files and the iTunes program was unable to locate your library it would attempt to create an new blank library file in that location as long as you haven't moved anything else. If your songs are on another drive they won't be affected but iTunes won't know where they are. If you follow the instructions for moving your iTunes Music folder in the Apple guide you should have no problems. I keep my iTunes Music folder on a second internal drive and used the article. The move went without a hitch. I used the same article you were using before I believe: Moving your iTunes Music Folder

  • Document file saving confusion using desktop "alias" folder

I'm having trouble finding files in Snow Leopard. My question is , where are "saved" document files supposed to go?
I like using a desktop alias folder, but over time I've played around with Time Machine, adding and deleted folders in the Dock, and created three or four different alias folders and basically I've screwed the pooch; there are now non-duplicate folders named "User Name" and "User Name 2"  (plus the  empty "Documents" sub-folder I've heard is a place holder for older software files ?) on the HD and I don't what is where the new files are being saved.
In any case, I may have two, three or even four sets of partial documents, so I need to do some work moving files around, trashing some and condsolidating the rest into the master Documents file ... but before I go through all that I need to make sure I understand where the OS wants saved files to go.
Is this path correct ? MS Word > Save > Documents Alias Folder > HD > Users > User Name > Documents.
If that's correct, then I can go to the various Word 2011  forums and find out how to make sure files are being saved using that path.
    Thanks,
    Brian

Stuffit's default is to decompress files saved to the desktop.
Pages documents are actually zipped folders.
Look in the Stuffit preferences and see if you can turn it off. Or get out of the habit of saving to the desktop, there are better places to organise your work
I disagree that Stuffit is useless, in fact it really is the swiss army knife of decompression and pays to have it around. Amongst other archive utilities.

  • Documents in my dock are showing up as question marks and I cannot open... please help!!

I save several excel documents on my dock.  Today I went to open one of the documents and the files were showing up in my dock as gray question marks.  I am unable to open the documents or find them anywhere else on my computer!  Please help!!

That may result in losing Dock icons for the Office applications (don't know why it should?) but shouldn't cause document icons in the Dock to disappear.

    Hi CcjNZek,
In case we have misunderstanding, please explain a bit about the following questions:
    1. Do you mean that we lost some files when we failed in the process of transferring files by Bluetooth?
    2. What do you mean about the sentence ‘usb'd to a pc’?
    3. Do you use the phone to connect the Bluetooth? If so, please check if you have backed up those files.
We could check the default folder of the file transfer.
As we use the Windows 8.1, we could use the File History to restore your file in the Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos, and Desktop folders and the OneDrive files available offline on your PC.

  • Uh oh! lost document

I have accumulated a spreadsheet of the hours I have worked on each project at my job this summer. I put the folder that this doc was located in, in the doc as a stack. (Not sure if I deleted the folder or not, but its no longer on the desktop) I go to open this document today after being on vaca for a couple of weeks while my computer was being used in another office for a presentation (they like the looks of these iMacs) and my document is not here. I spotlighted for it, nothing!
Anyway to recover any lost documents? Thanks!

    Tyler,
Have you looked in the Numbers > File > Open Recent list? Chances are the people doing the presentation didn't use Numbers and the list may still be good.
