Lost Document folder from dock

Hello,  How do I get my Documents folder back into the dock?  I initially tried to drag it to a new location on the dock, but it then disappeared.  It is in Finder; tried some variouis maneuvers to drag it to the doc, but it doesn't stay there.  Thank you.  Jane S

Hi Jane
You have to move the folder next to the trash - there is a small gray line - there you can move folders - applications can be added to the left of the gray line.

  • Can't open Download or Document folder from Dock

About a week ago, I noticed that if I attempt to open the document folder or download folder (from the option "open in finder" or "xx more in finder") the Apple loops utility will open instead of the appropriate document of download folder.
How do I go about correcting this?

What Barney-15E refers to is running Disk Utility from the installation disc in order to repair your startup volume, i.e. the disk itself. By running it from the installation disc - as opposed from your internal HD - you prevent disk errors which may otherwise appear, see here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2711?viewlocale=en_US.
In order to run Disk Utility from the installation disc, follow these steps (also here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417):
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.

  • Lost Documents folder

While transferring the data from an older MacBook to a new MacBook Air using the backup on a Time Machine, I lost my "Documents" folder from the dock.  I then tried to click and move the "Documents" folder from the "Favorites" on the left side of the "Macintosh HD.  Now the "Documents" folder isn't visable in either place, and I can't find it.  I looked at an earlier discussion about a similar situation and tried some of the suggested things, but nothing seemed to work.  I think the documents might have ended up in the "Downloads" folder, but I'm not sure.  Any help would be appreciated.

Choose Home from the Finder's Go menu and drag it back from there. If it's in the Downloads folder, move it to the home folder first.

  • Documents folder on dock

I was trying to move a document from "Documents" to another folder and somehow I removed my documents folder from the Dock. I tried to fix it but only managed to remove the "Downloads" folder from the dock.
How do I get those two folders back on the dock? I tried dragging the folders down to the dock, but that didn't work.
    Thanks.

Open a Finder window. On the left, click on your User-name folder. Find the Documents/Downloads folder and drag it to the Dock. You need to put it not where the application Icons are, but past the line down near the Trash icon. You also need to drag the folder close to the bottom of the screen before it will stay (or close to the side of the screen if your dock is on the left or right).

  • Lost Document folder while moving one file? Need help!

While attempting to move one file from my documents folder into Planbook the whole documents folder disappeared from the row icons on the bottom of the screen! Have had my MacBook Pro for a week and still find it confusing....not sure where document folder went but I need it! Hope someone can help!

Open Finder, New Finder Window from the menu options, and look in your Home folder. Or under Macintosh HD/User folder.
I take it from your description it is no longer in the Dock (row of icons at bottom of screen) where it usually is on the right hand side of that row.

  • Lost Document folder

    Hi,
Long story...but i managed to drag the document icon off the dock and it disappeared. (Sorry VERY new to MAC...didnt know what I was doing) Then i found a post on here to get it back by going into my HD and dragging the document folder back into my dock. Then poof it disappears and i cannot find the folder anywhere. It is no longer in the HD or in the dock. Are all my documents lost now forever? Or can i retrieve them? Can anyone help?
    Thank you very much

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Try going to Spotlight and type in Documents and see if it locates it. If not, download and run Disk Inventory. It will scan your entire HDD and list the contents in order of size. If you find the Document Folder, select it and check the location. Then go there and drag it to Macintosh HD > Users > +your home folder name+. Once it is in place it should show up again. You can then click it and drag it to the sidebar if you want it there.

  • I accidentally deleted the documents folder from my hard drive. can I recover it?

I accidentally deleted the documents folder (and its contents) from my ibook hard drive. Can I recover it?

It takes a really expensive data recovery service to get back things that have been deleted.
You could try Data Rescue 3, if you're desperate to get the documents back.
    http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php
    System Requirements:
    http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue_sysreq.php
If you want to try this, stop using the iBook immediately, and wait until you get the recovery software because every time you save something to your hard drive (even if it's only a link in your browser history), you risk overwriting the files you deleted.

  • Lost Document file on Dock

Somehow my kids have taken the documents file off my dock... does anyone know how to get it back?

If you open Mail>Preferences>General, you'll see "+Downloads folder+", change it to your documents folder.
You might also want to look into, ~/Library/Mail Downloads and see if anything resides in there.
FYI the ~ sign means your home folder.

  • Tried to move folder from dock to desktop, cloud then disappeared not in trash

tried to move a folder from the dock to the desktop, cloud then disappeared, not in trash

Do you have any idea where it is, or was? Wherever it was, it's still there -- unless you had already deleted it. Removing it from the Dock didn't delete it. If you did delete it, then you'll have to find it in your backups.

  • Definitely removing TimeMachine and Download folder from Dock?

Is it possible to definitely remove the app Time Machine and the default folders like Download from the dock?
Each time I restart OSX10.5.4, they keep reappearing....

Same thing happened when I first used Leopard. The Documents stack would not go away, even though I poofed it repeatedly. Eventually, it went away & never came back. I was never able to explain this, and nobody answered my post on the subject.
