Lost duplex printing in Win 8.1

Everything printed double-sided on my HP Pro 1106dn using Acrobat Reader XI until i just upgraded to Win 8.1. Now there seems to be no way to get duplex printing anymore from Acrobat. No problems with other programs.
I can look for a Win 8.1 forum to post there too, but it seems to be an Adobe problem. This would never have gotten by me when I was a systems programmer. This is not USA standard quality!

  • Cannot duplex print on Win 7. Duplex Unit "Install" not available

Printer Photosmart C6280. System Win 7 64bits Ultimate
The duplex printing was working fine on Windows XP. Bought a new computer, Win 7 and installed drivers and softwares from HP web site.
So far, I can only do manual duplexing. I tried following the instruction:
Step one: Add the Duplex Unit to your printer settings
On the Windows taskbar, Click the Windows icon ( ), and then click Devices and printers .
Right-click the printer icon ( ) for your product, click Printer Properties , and then click the product. The Printer Properties window opens.
    Click the Device Settings tab.
If necessary, click the plus sign (+ ) next to Installable Options to expand the list.
Click Duplex Unit , and then click Installed .
Click Apply , and then click OK .
But the dropbox at item 5 "Duplex Unit" is disabled (grayed out). So what do I do from there?
    Regards.

This makes sense. However, I am the only user on this computer and my status is administrator. Anyways, I tried all combination of ctrl-right-click, shift-right-click, ctrl-shift-right-click in trying to get a "run as administrator" but none works. Any other ways to run the printer properties as administrator?

  • Dell2150cdn: no more duplex printing

My Dell 2150cdn refuses to print duplex. It worked fine.
Can someone test something for me?
I have Dell-toner in my 2150cdn. When the black toner was reported empty, I turned the Non-Dell toner setting to on. Thus, the reporting of it being empty stopped and I could go on printing. Apparently, the toner was far from empty, I'm still printing with it.
But I have also lost duplex printing. I would like to know if that is one of the functions that is lost when turning the Non-Dell toner setting to on.
So, can someone test for me if duplex printing still works if you have Dell toner installed and the Non-Dell toner setting switched on?
    Thanks,

    Hi gctwnl,
Thank you for reaching out to us. The duplex printing option can get disabled while trying to reset any options on printer or printer settings changed on computer.
Please check if the duplex printing is checked while printing from PC.
Also go to printer settings using the operating panel on the printer and check if duplex mode is turned off.
If the options are disabled then enable and check printing again. This should help fixing the issue.
If the options are already enabled then try installing printer driver on you PC and let us know if that helped.

  • HP Laserjet 3015; Win 7; no duplex printing

I just upgraded to a new computer with Windows 7 using my old Laserjet 3015 (3-in-1) printer. Old setup with XP I could print duplex (printing on both sides). Now I cannot with Win 7.. I checked both printer-properties and printer-preferences for duplex printing.,Doesn't do duplex. I downloaded a new (?) driver for PCL5, no change. Called HP Help, after 1/2 hour and checking  the same, did not help.
Can anyone suggest what should I do?
    Thanks in advance
    Peter

    Hi Peter,
Please check the Device Settings configuration:
Enter Control Panel > Devices and Printers
Right click the PCL 5 printer icon, then click Printer Properties.
    Click the Device Settings tab.
Locate the Two-Sided Printing Accessory option - is it set as installed?
If not, change the value to Installed.
Can you see the Two-Sided printing option under the Printing Shortcuts / Finishing tab?
Say thanks by clicking the Kudos thumb up in the post.

  • Acrobat X: Lost default duplex print

When I upgraded, I lost the ability to duplex print by default and would like to know if I can restore it. I'm working on a mac and there is no duplex option in Acrobat's print command. My printer settings are set on duplex and it operates just fine in other programs. In Acrobat, I have to go into its printer settings via Properties to select duplex. I just want Acrobat to not override my printer settings and default to single-sided when I want 2-sided. Is there way to at least change the default print settings in Acrobat without having to change the Properties setting for each and every file? What an odd feature for Adobe to put into this software and I hope a fix is imminent if there is no simple solution in the current version. One expects an upgrade to be an improvement only in areas where it improves the workflow, not detracts from it, yes?

The changes in Acrobat & Reader 10.1.2 associated with printing were clearly a big problem. As far as we know,  no one actually lost the capability of controlling simplex versus duplex printing, but rather, a very ill-conceived mechanism was introduced that assumed that if your printer has duplex capabilities of any type, you would or should use them.
The plans of record are to provide a fix for this issue in the next quarterly update to Acrobat and Reader due next month. There will be a control for duplex in the print dialog, but it will only reflect what you have already set in the printer properties (either on Windows or Macintosh). The dialog will allow you to change that setting while in Acrobat, but it will not make assumptions as to what you could or should do vis-a-vis duplex printing. In this respect, it will be similar to print dialogs in applications such as Microsoft Office in terms of allowing access to duplex printing, but not forcing it.
However, there is something peculiar in your particular situation. Normally, with Acrobat & Reader 10.1.2, if the printer supports duplex as determined by the printer's PPD file (for PostScript devices) or from the driver otherwise, you would see a duplex control in the print dialog itself. The fact that your printer supports duplex (correct?) and that you aren't seeing the duplex control in the print dialog is a problem we aren't currently aware of. You are seeing the forcing of duplex without the ability to control it from the print dialog? Correct? I'll send the report of this to the appropriate group within Acrobat engineering.

    Hello Dov.
Thank you for your input. Can you confirm that these strange printing issues would also cause my PDF files to print in color and 1-sided even when the default in Control panel for my printer is 2-sided and B&W?
    Thanks!

  • Win8=- no printer sharing and no duplex printing

    Spoiler (Highlight to read)
I was stupid upgrading to Windows 8.  Not only have I lost the ability for duplex printing, I am unable to do printer sharing.  HP says they are going to update the drivers but that is a bunch of BS.  I have a Laserjet 1320 that has done a wonderful job until Win 8 came upon the scene.

The above link suggests a 'DOT4' USB driver (not sure about that), but also points to a Windows 8 support page: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c03365145
This indicates that Windows 8 (will) support LaserJet 1320 via a Universal Print Driver (UPD), but notes:
Universal Print Drivers (UPDs) provide print-only (no scan or fax) support.
UPD includes an installer that enables either a traditional or dynamic mode install.
The UPD PCL 5 is not supported in Windows 8.
The UPD PCL 6 and/or UPD PostScript are supported .
UPD is not supported in Windows 8 until the UPD version 5.6 is released in late December 2012.

  • HP LaserJet Pro M1212nf MFP Printer Duplex Printing Driver

    Hello,
I'm consdering about buying HP Laser Jet Pro M1212nf MFP Printer.
I feel like it's the printer that has all the specs that I need.... Except for automatic duplex printing.
Automatic duplex printing is super important to me and I'm sad that the M1212nf does not provide it.
However, I did see that it has duplex printing driver support.
I was wondering what this driver support is (I've been spending hours on the web trying to get a definition but nothing!)
and if it will work on a Mac, I saw couple threads that said that some HP printers don't offer duplex printing driver support for mac computers.
So basilally, I'm wondering how the duplex printing will work if I install the driver support.
    Thanks.

Good health! I wanted to download drivers for hp laserjet m1212nf mfp. Does not work, can you help me where to download or buy the drivers, I have lost the native disk driver, now cannot install the printer! thank you! if the error my message I will forgive apologize in advance

  • C9295A Duplex Printing Problem

I have been successfully using the C9295A (Officeject 6000, E609n) wireless printer for eleven months.  Set up wireless, connected with win 7 PCs and laptop.  Primarily used for duplex printing and has worked very well.
Several weeks ago it started having errors when printing, almost exclusively when trying to use the duplex printing.  The first page would print normally while the second side would print only about the bottom inch.  Each time it failed there was an error showing in the print queue (Error: Sent to Printer) and subsequent print jobs would fail until that was cleared.  Didn't matter which machine I used.  Connected with ethernet and had the same problem.  Used with wired PC and ethernet and still had the same problem.
Used downloaded printer troubleshooter and network troubleshooters from HP.  They did not detect problems.  Reinstalled software on two machines with no change.  Had a network port error after that, but said to reboot and try again and it passed.  Printer is set up on a WDS port.
I did notice that if I printed a large job (say 10 pages) with duplex it would print most of it correctly.  Have also had some failures where a single page would fail, usually when printing graphics.
I can't seem to find my specific failure in any of the troubleshooting pages.  I have seen the same symptom in some older posts concerning IE8 printing but  I use firefox.  Also the problem is the same whether from Word, a PDF document or a browser.
Has anyone seen a similar problem?Kind of seems like it is having problems keeping the info in memory in the printer.  Is that possible?
Lastly, I haven't yet figured out how I get help with my printer under warranty.  The HP site just keeps sending me back to troubleshooting pages.  They don't recognize my serial number (even though it is registered) and their program to detect it fails.  When I tried to use the "contact by email" link it just brought me back to the "check warranty" page which, of course, fails.  Anyone have any insight there?
Can't believe I worked for this company for 29 years and still can't figure out their website - guess it doesn't say much for the "ease of use".
    bobf

Again, thanks.  I also contacted Canon and they suggested I delete the driver and reinstall from their website.  I did that it worked.
For anyone with a similar problem here is the link and instructions from Canon:
Remove the current driver from printers and scanners.  Highlight the MX920 series and click the -.  Download the latest driver from our support site.
    http://www.canon.co.uk/Support/Consumer_Products/products/Fax__Multifunctionals/ InkJet/PIXMA_MX_series/MX925.aspx?DLtcmuri=tcm:14-1099303&page=1&type=download
Install the driver and add the printer in printers and scanners.  When you select the MX920 series printer confirm that MX920 is listed under “print using” and then add.  When this is complete, try to print.

  • Photosmart 7160 Duplex Printing Out of Paper Side 2 Intermittent Windows 7 USB

The printer works fine on XP but 75 percent of the time it fails on Windows 7. I have a removable drive so I can switch back and forth between XP and Windows 7. Symptom: Let's say I want to print 10 documents. Each document is 1 1/2 pages long. I command it to print 10, duplex, fast draft, copies. Usually the first document will print double sided. The second document will fail to reverse the paper after printing the first side. The paper will continue forward to the end of the output tray. Since the paper did not reverse and go into the flip over device, I now get and Out of Paper error and must manually hit the OK button on the printer. It then feeds the next (!) sheet of paper from the input tray. So it takes me 10 minutes to print the 10 documents with only 2 or 3 of them actually being double sided. It would normally take less than 2 minutes for 10 duplex sheets at draft quality. When I boot from my XP drive everything works fine. It seems like the motor that reverses the paper never actually goes into reverse. I have removed the flip over device and cleaned everything in sight including the contacts. There are about 30 drivers listed in Properties. The first one says HPD7100T.GPD 6.10.2009 .

    AND forgot to say,

  • Duplex printing issues with landscape orientation

I have read through all of the previous questions, and can't seem to resolve my problem here.
I am using Acrobat 8 Professional (8.2.2).  I have created a PDF from a Powerpoint presentation.  I need to be able to send this to someone else and have them view it on screen with the correct orientation, and also duplex print it correctly, as all of our company printers default to duplex printing (to save paper).  However, since the person who prints it is going to staple it in the upper left hand corner, it really needs to be duplexed to open along the left edge (the short edge of the paper).
When I first bring up the print screen the document has the incorrect orientation; i.e. it shows a thumbnail of an 8.5 x 11" page in portrait orientation, and my content is reduced in size to fit the 8.5 width.  I think this is really the issue at hand--for some reason, even though the page is set up in Powerpoint as a 8.5x11 landscape oriented document, when it exports to the PDF format, that orientation doesn't hold.
Anyway, it seems that no matter what settings I try to adjust, it doesn't seem to work.  I have toggled "Auto-Rotate and Center," I have toggled the duplex settings in the PDF document properties.  I have toggled the duplex print settings on my printer driver between "Open to Left" and "Open to Top."  None of it seems to make any difference in the final printout--basically what comes out of my printer is a document that is rotated to print out as if it was a portrait page, and is bound on the left edge (so each second page is printed upside down, when I am looking at it in landscape orientation).
The only work-arounds I can think of would be to rotate every other page in the PDF so that when it printed it printed correctly.  However, then the PDF would not be readable on the screen.  I could generate two separate versions of the PDF, one marked for print, and the other for viewing--but that is a real waste.
Does anyone have any suggestions here?  I am looking for a way either to get the PDF software to "understand" that this document is a landscape document from the get-go (then it SHOULD work to duplex print correctly with the "Open to Left" setting), or maybe create a custom print setting for this document that allows me to rotate every other page as it is printed, but that doesn't rotate the pages on the screen.
I hope this is all clear...and that someone can offer some advice.
    Thanks!
    Melise
P.S.  Just in case it makes any difference, I am running Windows XP Professional and am using the Microsoft Office 2007 software package.  Because the company has multiple different printers throughout the company, I need a solution that will work without regards to the specific printer driver.

I am having the exact same issue.  The setting of "Auto-Rotate and Center" has no affect.
Do I have to rotate the odd pages 180 so they are upside down in the PDF, but print correctly?
I am using Acrobat 9 Pro V. 9.3.3 in Win 7 Pro 64, to HP CP6015XH (colour laser).

  • Duplex printing ceases

I have my iMac connected to a Brother HL-5350DN printer. I normally duplex print, but on Monday this suddenly stopped operating - it now only prints p 1, apparently duplexes but gives me a blank rear page, then prints p 2 on a new page and again duplexes (apparently) with a blank back etc etc.  Setting in print dialogue boxes and in preferences seem to be unchanged and OK. Ideas?

You are not alone.  From what I can tell, most Brother printer users lost the ability to duplex with the recent Apple Software Update: "Brother Printer Update 2.8."  This happened to me and many others.  There are threads here on the boards which discuss this.
You CANNOT fix this by deleting the Brother drivers and running Software Update again.  In fact, Software Update is exactly the problem.  When there is a "Brother Printer Update" with a version number other than 2.8, you can run it.  Until then, decline to install the BPU 2.8.  I have been prompted serveral times now to reinstall the update.
To fix you Brother printers, you need to head over to the Brother support site, enter the information regarding your particular printer, and downloand/install the Brother drivers.  Some have deleted their printers and reinstalled them after installing the drivers from Brother, others not - still with sucess.  My advice would be to delete the printer, install the driver from Brother, then install your printer again.  In any event, do NOT use the Apple Brother Printer Update 2.8 until the problem is fixed.  I would assume the version number will change.
Please report the problem to Apple:  http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

    Hi !
OS Windows 8.1. Printer LaserJet 100 color MFP M175a. Driver version 61.108.8.10073 date 2011 Apr 13th
    1. After switching on checkbox "Print on Both Sides (Manually)" on "Finishing" tab of Print Properties Dialog and
start printing, dialog with instruction how to turn paper appears. Then printer must print odd pages, stop for
turning paper and then continue printing of even pages on the back side of paper sheets. But my device prints
all pages sequentually in order 1,2,3,... without any breaks. What is it- my mistake or possible bug in driver ?
    2. Windows API function DeviceCapabilities with fwCapability=DC_DUPLEX for this printer returns 0 (duplex printing

  • Duplex Printing on a HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 Wireless Printer

Duplex printing - 1.  How do you change the settings to make the printer print on both sides of a single sheet of paper?
                             2.  How do you change the settings to make the printer print on both sides of a single sheer of paper and
when it prints the backside of the sheet it rotates the text so that when you read the text you FLIP it
up vertically to read the backside rather than just turning the over to read the text on the backside.
I thought I knew the answer to this question - but yesterday when I printed an Owner's Manual for a friend the printer printed 10 sheets that you had to FLIP the sheet over to read the text on the other side (Note: FLIP was not "X"'d.  Then when I printed again I changed the setting so that FLIP was "X"d and it printed with the orientation that I needed (just turn the sheet over to read the text  on the backside of the sheet).
NO instructions about "Printer Settings" came with the printer so I am in the dark about "HOW TO" things.  As I said before I thought I need how to do it - but it performed exactly backwards as I had thought,,,Have I got TOO old to remember HOW TO set up settings?  Would appreciate help with this and where I can do to get info about HP Printer Settings.  Thanks in advance.

  • Duplex printing problem with hp 9500 (right side always just half printed)

Since OS X 10.6 was released there is a problem with the print out of duplex printed pages (specially via Indesign CS4 broschure printing function). Using Mac OS X 10.5.8 with old and new driver everything is fine - but under 10.6, 10.6.1 or 10.6.2 neither old nor one of the new driver releases 2.1, 2.2 or 2.3 will work.
When I´m trying to print a duplex printing page the print of the right page will be cutted off at the half of the page - like the page would not print A3 horizontally but vertically (so the rest is cut off). The new print features within the printing menu (manual duplex print and print broschure will have same effect but with a strange miniaturization to A5 - although it should be A4). All in all the is no way to print out a duplex printing with OS X 10.6 and hp 9500. Will there be any solution in sight? Are there other with the same effect?

I have an identical issue to neuegestaltung, but with an HP 5500. I can print single-sided to A3/tabloid successfully but when I try printing duplex the right quarter of the page is cut off on both sides - almost as if it thinks it's printing portrait.
Applications affected include Adobe Acrobat 8 and 9, Adobe CS3 and CS4 applications including InDesign.
Preview works fine, but of course the colour balance makes the output unusable.
OS 10.6.2, print driver HP Color LaserJet 5500 v 3010.107.
Using the Gutenprint driver I can't either do A3 or colour so there is no solution there.
Worked fully and correctly with the same apps under 10.5.x.
At the moment I am running Windows XP under VMWare to print from Acrobat, which is plainly silly.
Any useful* observations, suggestions or workarounds welcome.
*Needless to say, "It's Adobe's problem" or similar are not acceptable responses. It may well be an interaction between the Adobe's applications and Apple's printing system and/or driver of course; in that case the companies need to collaborate to solve the issue.
