Lost DVD

I bought iWork last year and had it installed on my computer. I just updated to a new iMac and went to install iWork again. However, I can't find the DVD anywhere. If I burn the applications to a DVD and then drag it over to my new computer, will everything work? I do have the serial number. Or do I have to have the original DVD? If I could save some cash by not buying it again, that would be great.

Do a Spotlight search on the following words: Pages, iWork, and Keynote. Move all of those files over to the new computer in the exact location they currently are.
On the other hand, this is a good opportunity to upgrade to iWork '08. There's lots of new and improved stuff in there.

Boot Camp, Vista lost DVD drivers

I installed Vista on a Mac Pro, everything was working well. Oh for about 3 weeks, then for some unknown reason, Vista lost the drivers for the Pioneer DVD-Rw drives. I looked all over the net for Vista drivers for the Dives and nothing, (even Pioneers site) Does any one know were and how i can get the drivers reloaded, i did restored it to a point were the drives worked, and they still don't work, I get the yellow exclamation point, for both drives.. Ive tried making a copy of the CD in MAC, and transfer it over to the Window's but it will not allow me to "make changes to file folder"

Lost DVD-drive after installing i-tunes 8

After i installed i-tunes 8 i lost my dvd-drive and clone-drive.
im sure it is i-tunes. i did an systemrecovery and my drives where back.
after installing i-tunes 8 again...... you guess same problem.
so i did systemrecovery and guess again.......problem solved.

IMac intel late 2006, lost DVDs, how to run apple hardware test

I have an iMac intel core 2 duo late 2006. I have upgraded it to snow leopard. From two months ago, it began to show distorted pictues, random lines/pixels/, and regular freezing. But if I boot it into the safe mode, it works well, although there is no sound or webcam. I did a research online and it seems that I should run apple hardware test (AHT) first. But the DVDs came withi this machines have been lost. where can I download this software? I would greatly appreciate your help if any of you who also have this model of machine and would like to lend me your DVDs.

There is no way to run the AHT without the discs.
If it works OK in safe mode then you might think about:
Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Reinstall Snow Leopard:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
Do the following:
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.

Lost DVD SP4 Content Disk and lost Content

My brother was some how fooling around with my mac pro, and deleted the dvd studio content and emptied the trash....When i went to reload it unfortuantely we found I had lost the content disk...I h ave a friend with the non universal version of the program....my question is this:
Is it possible to load the non universal content onto my hard drive even though i'm using an intel based machine and have the universal version of FCP? thanks!

Stuttering, bleeps, and lost DVD drive on Satellite M40-149

For a while now the laptop will run ok for around 1 - 2 hours, then all of a sudden the speakers will start making random high pitch very loud distorted bleeps. When this starts, the system starts stuttering. Every 2 seconds or so it will freeze for about 1/4 of a second. All processing freezes - including sound and display. This is annoying but usually a gentle shake sorts it out...
Occasionally when this happens the DVD drive will disappear too, and I need to restart to get it back. Sometimes I need to leave it off for a short while so I think this may be something to do with overheating?
Anyway, my main problem now is that the DVD drive is very rarely present. I've used some firmware analysis tools and the port connection to the drive is present but the laptop cannot communicate to it. I've thought perhaps updating the DVDs firmware may fix this but I haven't been able to yet.
I couldn't find any previous reports of this. Does anyone have an idea what this could be? Or how I can fix it?
If it came to it I'd be happy to buy an external DVD drive, but the presence of the bad connection is interfering with some other tasks I'm doing....

Lost DVD Player Application

I must have accidently deleted my 'DVD Player' application,
I've looked in my 'Applications' folder & done a spotlight search & it doesn't show up, except a folder called 'DVD Player' in the 'Library'.
How do i get it back?

Lost DVD Playing

For some reason my DVD player will not recognize a DVD. Well, actually something recognizes the DVD because the DVD player opens but itthen says there is not a recognizable disc AND there is no disc on the desktop—yes, I double checked the Finder Preferences. OK, here is what has been done recently. The midplane was replaced, the power source was replaced, and 10.4.5 was installed/updated. I throw in a disc and I get the above mentioned result. I have run DU and Yasu without issue. Any ideas what is going on?

Yasu may have deleted an important file or corrupted a permission somewhere.
Do not use these utilities except to troubleshoot issues. The most important maintenance you can do is a backup:

Meanwhile, you can try to repair permissions with Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility to see if that fixes the issue. Also try with a commercial movie DVD. Those are the most likely to be able to be read.
I'm assuming you are using a Mac that came with a built-in DVD drive, and have not installed a third party DVD drive. Some third party drives need special updates to go along with system updates.

Lost DVD drive

When I install iTunes for Windows on my hp4500 it puts in a registry entry that disables the DVD driver. When I remove this registry entry (as recommended by HP) iTunes complains that an essential registry entry is missing. Is there a workaround?

Reinstalling or doing a delete and install of itunes does not work. This problem has been repeated in XP, Vista and 7. If you can reccommend a solution it would be appreciated.

DVD no more and Terminal window woes?

Two issues here:

Today I updated my OSX 10.3.9 with the very latest updates. (I bought iLife '05 and the instructions recommended this). After this update I can no longer mount any DVD discs [data, (not even iLife '05 install) movie's, etc.] DVD's do not appear on the desktop, the Finder side bar, or in the Disk Utility window. CD's work fine though. For the last couple month's, (actually since moving up to 10.3.9) movie DVD's have been problematic ... frequently needing force quits of DVD Player, restarting with the DVD inserted to force it to mount, etc. Today's update has killed it altogether.

After doing everything imaginable (repair permissions, dump caches, zap pram, etc.), I went to the terminal to update prebinding as a last ditch effort to find a solution, but now the terminal window apppears as only the very top left corner of the window with just a close button and enough room to double click it to minimize it into the dock. I cannot expand the window to see anything. I've again repaired permissions, dumped cache files, run MacJanitor, zapped the pram, you name it.
Summary:
Now I've lost DVD capability (and hence cannot boot from my old 10.3.3 install disc because it's on DVD) and my termial is non accessible.
The plea:
"Help, I've updated ... and I can't get up!"
Help would be so appreciated!

The font issue sounds likely since I also recently went through all of my fonts with Font Doctor and reorganized everything with FontAgent Pro. I thought I had left system fonts untouched but maybe something happened inadvertantly. I'll check it out.
Regarding the DVD, I tried, as you suggested, restarting w/ option key and the OSX 10.3.3 DVD did not show up. I'm wondering though, CD's (both data and audio) mount just fine. It seems if there were truly a hardware issue, CD's would not mount either. Thoughts on this? (I'd just hate to buy a new DVD drive if it's is not the real problem.)

i have a PB G4 with SD...
i was burning a dvd via Finder... when all of a sudden i get a message saying (more or less like this, cuz i don't remember well the entire msg):
"lost dvd driver communication .... error # 00000 blah blah "
(the zeros stand for the huge number i cannot remember)
then i ejected the disk, it happened after having burnt more than 12%...
i usually don't do other things while burning a disk, speciall a dvd, but this time i had several apps running...
would it be a defective dvd disk?
would it be a Tiger problem?
superdrive problem?
Finder problem?
Ram problem?
any ideas?

the PB was doing nothing but burning, but 3 times i had the 'communication error' message...
i wonder how i can tell if it is "a deffective DVD disk" issue or the "SuperDrive" issue....

Can you Rip DVD's with a iMac?

New to the Mac world (but not to computers)!!.
Just a quick question in regards to Mac's, iMac's and the ability to rip DVD's.
Basically, can you rip DVD's on a iMac and copy it to a blank DVD? For example, if I wanted to rip "Lord of the Rings" and put it on a DVD, does Mac have software that is able to do this?
I know that you need a DVD decryptor to be able to do this. Is there one available?
Don't get me wrong; I am not about to go out and rip a bunch of DVD's then sell them. this is purely if I wanted to copy a DVD for myself, so I can have a backup (i've had a problem in the past where i've lost DVD's because I travel so much.)

OK I've ripped my lost DVD to my apple TV now how do I get all episodes to appear in one folder or heading?

Your 'movies' will probably appear under movies even though they're TV Shows.
If the filenames are similar hopefully they'll be next to each other.
Right click on the first and choose Get Info.
In the Info tab enter the name to appear on screen.
Next click the Video Tab, and edit to TV Show from the dropdown, add Show name, and I tend to add season, and episode number/IDs though I'm not convinced it helps sorting on AppleTV. Clcik ok to update or Next if the files lie adjacent to each other so the next one is the next episode. Once you've done ok they'll move to TV Shows category and will appear under the Show name. I tend to label the episode names with a number myself, eg 01 - Intro, 02 - The Next Installment, 03 - Middle, 04 - Penultimate, 05 - The Finale.
