Lost e-mail accounts in Apple Mail
My Mac Pro froze a few days ago and had to restart the computer. Upon restarting the computer, the Apple Mail lost two e-mail accounts. I mean they just disappeared. Another four will not connect to the mail server, keeps on asking for the password, even know it is correct (works fine on my MacBook Pro). Anyone know how I can get the two missing accounts (and e-mail messages) back, as well as having the other four accounts pull messages successfully from my mail server? The remaining e-mail accounts are working fine. Very strange, do not know why this happened. Any help, I would be greatful.
Backup. SuperDuper would be #1 choice.
Repair. Disk Warrior 4 is #1 choice for last 7 yrs.
Setup some backup disks and an emergency boot drive.
Boot from your DVD and instead of installing, click on Utility Menu -> Disk Utility -> Repair Drive under First Aid.

Here is what happened:
upgrade to 10.8.4.
macbook air froze
I held down power button
reboot took a looong time ... I nearly thought the little "meter" on the grey screen was stuck. But it finally came through:
I then logged in as usual
opened Mail
and nearly died, since all my 7 mail-accounts were gone + all emails gone
except mobile me account
tried restarting, restart mail.
mail crashed almost immidiately upon opening.

It seemed to import my mobile me mails, but comes up with the "!" sign next to my mobile me account and: "There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “MobileMe” or try again.The server returned the error: The connection to the server “p01-imap.mail.me.com” on port 143 timed out."
I have verified that username and paswword are correct and saved in preferences.
But anyways; thanks to another post from you elsewhere I have located my 7 mail accounts in subfolders to something called the V2 folder. There are 6 POP accounts each in a folder and one I think is called EWS.
So: How to I restore these POP accounts in Apple Mail and reimport all my (vital) emails from the last two years?
phew, I have loved working in mac OX for as long as I remember ... but this experience, I could have done without.
I really, really hope some genius can help out. ThanksMail isn't showing your eMails correctly or what?
Might try this before we restore anything...
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup
Note, in 10.5 & up /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/ does not exist. -
Icbaccountsd Unknown High Level Account com.apple.account.mail
Just upgraded to Mavericks. In Mail -> Preferences -> Accounts, I've dis-enabled all accounts. Then, I enable a single, empty, 3rd-party IMAP email account (no mail, no user mailboxes) and observe the following messages, occasionally repeated in the Console log. How to fix?

Check your spam mail. If you have more than one email address verified with that apple id that email will go to the rescue email.

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

I have 4 email accounts in apple Mail. My mail is sending from the wrong account. even on "reply" it sends from a different account. I have 3 gmail accounts and one exchange server account. I choose which account to send from and it still sends from the same gmail account. Help.
I HAD two accounts because of this problem. I completely removed the problem account from the Apple Mail client. Guess what is happening?? That's right - Mail is still sending from the other account that no longer exists on my computer, and I have absolutely no idea how this is happening. This is incredibly frustrating. When a recipient chooses to reply to my message, quite often I won't get it now because it is going to the other account that has now been deleted from my system. COME ON APPLE!!! WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THIS???

I have 3 mail accounts in apple mail. One of them has had the spinning ball going for several days and I cannot receive mail in this account or delete messages etc. For some reason, I CAN send mail on Apple mail using this account, although it takes several minutes. I can receive mail in this account on my iPad and by signing into aol on safari and internet explorer on my office PC. It's obviously a glitch in Apple's Mail. I've deleted this account and reopened it in Mail on my Mac Pro with no difference. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, this E amil account is major to my business.

sounds like a corrupt database or index
the glitch is your home folder and mail folder, esp look at syncservices

HT1277 cannot find a way to install my OVI account in Apple mail (mountain lion)?
I have just upgraded to Mountain Lion, now I cannot configure my OVI email account. Apple email configuration in Mountain Lion does not recognize the OVI mail as a Yahoo provided email address. It does recognized the fact that OVI is a Yahoo based address in OS 5.1. Consequently setting up my OVI email address on my Ipad and I Phones has been no problem.
I personally believe that this is a bug in the Mountain Lion software which needs to be corrected asap with an up date. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm all of a sudden missing old mail in my inbox labeled .live - I used mBox to set up my hotmail account with Apple Mail. It's not in the trash nor on my hotmail account online anymore. Hmmmm??? I already tried to rebuild and my mbox folder in the library seems fine. Anyone?? I only have about a month's worth of mail which made me think I had mistakenly selected some 'time frame' for keeping inbox messages but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Try re-indexing the mailboxes. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

Hi. I have set up both personal and business (IMAP) accounts in apple mail. How can I select just looking at emails from one account or the other? I'd rather not have them all mashed together. Thanks!
In the left column of mail, click on the disclosure triangle to the left of the "Inbox" label to open the view, then click on the mailbox (server) that you're interested in.
You can also take individual mailboxes (servers) offline to reduce the arriving traffic; I have a mailbox set up for mailing list traffic, for instance. -

All - I've been working on this for hours.
All I want to do is connect my gmail accounts to Apple Mail. I'm running a new Macbook Air w Mountain Lion, Apple Mail 6.5. I can access the accounts on my ipad and iphone. I've spent hours reading forums and help areas.
Mail repeatedly asks for my password. In the account settings it does not save my password.
I've gotten the message that Mail cannot connect to Google imap server, but I do not believe this is a "timing" issue
Here's what I've tried:
Apple Side:
- Tried adding and deleting accounts several times within mail application
- tried using System Preferences > Mail/Contacts etc.
- Changed imap.gmail.com to imap.google.com
- changed to custom dedicated port for outgoing mail (587)
- closed and relaunched Mail
- Rebooted and safe rebooted computer
- set up and deleted accounts
- turned off gmail on phone and ipad
Google Side:
- Enabled IMAP
- Not using 2 step verification
- Checked CaptchaIf you've activated 2-step verification, you need to generate an application-specific password in your Google account and enter it in place of your old password.

Where is the MailAccounts.plist stored for a network user account using Apple Mail on Snow Lion?
Where is the MailAccounts.plist file stored for a network user using Apple Mail on Snow Leopard? It appears one of my users has managed to do something to their mail account as Apple Mail will no longer close once opened and the Sent Folder has a perpetual spinning pinwheel.
They would have to be logged in as separate users in order not to see your account in Mail. Whatever accounts put in Mail under your account will show up. All mail accounts usually have there own user and password. The only thing you can do is to remove the password from Keychain and take the account offline so you don't keep getting prompts for passwords each time it checks for mail.
Not a great solution.
Best way is to give the other user their own user account with their own mail and enable fast user swithcing to log between the different users if all access the computer frequently.

I have a 1.8 GHz Intel Core I7 MacBook Air with 256GB SSD running OS X 10.9.1 (recently re-imaged). My hard drive has a single partition formatted in Mac OS (Extended Journaled). When I tried to encrypt the SSD using FileVault, I received the follow
