Lost emails in inbox

i keep loosing my emails in the inbox and i dont know how to retrieve them

What exactly do you mean by "losing" emails: that you can't find them, or that they somehow disappeared? How old were these emails when you "lost" them, and what sort of email account do you have, POP or IMAP?

  • Lost emails in Inbox after rebuild

    Hi all,
After I rebuilt my Inbox, my messages were lost. I've looked at the INBOX.mbox package contents, and judging by its file size, it looks like all of my past emails are gone. Were my emails permanently deleted or is there someway to retrieve them?
    Thanks in advance

Sorry but it looks like the messages are lost. The mbox package file is the file that stores all messages and message attachments for a Jaguar or Panther mailbox. When an "overstuffed" mailbox issue or corruption occurs, some of the other package content files for the mailbox stores some of the messages which can be recovered by other means but although the content_index file is a little larger than normal, nothing appears out of place and the mbox file is only 1.2 MB now.
Although 3.31 GB of free hard drive space seems like a lot or enough not to cause any problems, paging/virtual memory is probably this size at least and if it goes over this amount on your Mac depending on activity, data loss can occur.
I would free up some hard drive space to get the free space over 5GB minimum and as the link I provided indicates, more free space is better.
And although very unfortunate, maybe this will be motivation to start maintaining a regular backup saved to an external drive. I use SuperDuper! maintaining a complete bootable clone of my hard drive saved to a Firewire drive used for backup purposes only.
It isn't a matter of if but when your hard drive has a complete or partial failure since none last forever. I learned this lesson the hard way several years ago. Without warning, I experienced a complete hard drive failure on a G3 PowerBook less than 1-yr old. Apple replaced the hard drive under the standard 1-yr warranty period but none of my existing data was recoverable and I didn't maintain a backup at the time. I lost everything but it motivated me to start maintaining a regular backup.

Did you set up your phone to sync Contacts with iCloud? If not sure, you can log in to https://www.icloud.com and see if your contacts are there.

  • Suddenly I've lost old emails in inbox, despite proper accountsetting. How to get them back?

TB worked fine, until today. I did not change any settings, not in TB and not at my emailserver. Still, my inbox now displays only the emails on the server; these are proper synchronised.
My inbox does not display anymore the older emails I keep in my inbox. They are not in the Bin, not deleted by me, not in Archives. How is this possible?

re: ''Still, my inbox now displays only the emails on the server; these are proper synchronised.''
As you have 'synchronised' the folder, I assume you use an IMAP mail account.
Please confirm that you use IMAP or Pop.
IMAP mail accounts see a remote view of the subscribed folders that are on the server.
So if your webmail account only shows eg: 10 emails in Inbox and in Thunderbird you only see those 10 emails in the account Inbox then nothing is wrong in that they are the same.
Are you saying that the emails were deleted off the server, so that they are also deleted in thunderbird?
    check: Tools > Activity manager
Does it say any anything about deleting loads of emails?
Do you know if compacting occured?
    One possibility:
Your Inbox folder was corrupted and then the folder was compacted either manually or automatically.
It removed all 'marked as deleted; emails, but as the folder was corrupted, Tb could not determine where the 'marked as deleted' email ended and therefore may have deleted good emails.
If this occured then there is no way to get them back unless you had a backup of your emails.
It is advised that you keep an Inbox for incoming new mail and move good emails into suitable folders for organising and compact the folder on a regular basis.
See info on keeping a healthy Thunderbird:

  • Re: HELP! URGENT! lost email messages!

had to shut down due to time constrictions, sorry for pushing the need for help, but I was desperate to recover vital lost messages. I tried everything suggested in the Mail help records and past discussion posts. At this point (next morning) my mail is still lost.
    any suggestions will be appreciated.

    HELP! URGENT! lost email messages!
    Posted: Jan 21, 2007 6:29 PM
I started, two days ago, receiving four of each message coming to me. I just looked at my accounts and saw two of my primary account (POP.ipa.net is the Incoming mail server), I'd never seen the second one before, so I deleted it.
Went to my (Mac Mail ver. 2.1) mail browser and all my inbox and sent and junk messages now show the same message: "The message from [email protected] concerning “Receipt for Your Payment to (account name)” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it."
    WHAT!!!!!!??????
I went to Apple discussions and found a problem similar from today and followed the advice there by David Gimeno:
"In the Finder, go to the ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/ account folder, and look at the contents of INBOX.mbox and Sent Messages.mbox."
did this and found nothing under either .mbox folder ...
HELP!!! IMPORTANT MESSAGES ARE IN THE BALANCE!

If you deleted a POP account, then all your mail stored in that account’s mailboxes has been wiped out, not just moved somewhere, and you were warned that this would happen by the following alert:
    Remove Account
Are you sure you want to remove the <AccountType> account "<AccountName>"?
This will permanently delete the account setup information, mailboxes, and messages from your computer. Messages stored on the mail server will not be affected.
To prevent that from happening, you should have moved your mail to custom “On My Mac” mailboxes instead of leaving it in the account’s mailboxes.
If the messages are not on the server, and you don’t have a backup, your only option in the case of Mail 2.x is to try to salvage as many deleted *.emlx files as possible with a data recovery tool such as Data Rescue II, TechTool Pro, or FileSalvage (the files to be recovered would be different in the case of Mail 1.x). Of these, the only one I know for sure that can currently recover deleted *.emlx files is FileSalvage. Stop using your computer right now if you want to try that, as anything you do with the computer may cause the deleted files to be overwritten. Actually, your anxiety may very well have already caused some of those messages to be irretrievably lost.
As to why you appear to have lost messages from the account that remains in Mail as well, note that for each account, Mail creates a folder within ~/Library/Mail/ whose name starts with the account type (POP, IMAP, Mac), followed by the account username and the incoming mail server. Deleting a mail account causes the corresponding account folder to be deleted as well.
You should never, ever, set up two accounts in Mail with the same Account Type, User Name, and Incoming Mail Server. Two such accounts would share the same account folder in the filesystem, and deleting one of them would cause the (shared) account folder to be deleted as well...

  • BPEL deleted all emails form Inbox

    Hello
I configured Actionable Email for BPEL Human workflow. I gave all my email server details inside the ns_emails.xml file. ( Under <IncomingServerSettings> )
But upon restart of BPEL server I saw that my email Inbox folder became empty and I believe BPEL server's email listener have read all my emails and deleted them from Inbox folder.
Well good news is its reading but bad part is I lost my all email :(
Is there a way we can tell BPEL server not to delete the incoming emails while listening on particular email account ? I can see that there are some options inside the <IncomingServerSettings>.
    Like , <PostReadOperation>
    <MarkAsRead/>
    </PostReadOperation>
What is the significance of PostReadOperation ? What could be the possible values ? I had hard to find ANY documentation on this.
    Thanks
    /Mishit

Yeah you are correct, I am using POP3. I have heard about IMAP protocol too but I was not aware of the difference between POP3 and IMAP.
So this means with IMAP BPEL server doesn't delete the emails from Inbox and so at the same time we should be able to see those emails through any client application.
    Thanks for your reply.

  • Re-instatement of lost emails

    Hi,
I've also been hit by not being able to get onto BT Mail since Saturday but this afternoon I got a message from BT that I could in the meantime go back to using my Yahoo account.
So, back on email and there is a message from BT in my Inbox which ends with:
"If you have not been able to find recent emails in your inbox or folders, you can let us know here and we will contact you:" (and a contact email address is provided)
I have lost emails since 6th July, presumably when I migrated. Has anyone else received this email from BT and also lost emails? If so, how long does it take for them to get in touch and re-instate lost messages?
    Thanks,

Is there absolutely no one who is happy to offer a little advice/comment/suggestion? Surely my experience with Snow Leopard is not unique? I've installed twice now and each time reverted to a Time Machine backup.
    Thanks

  • I've lost an important email correspondence from 2012. I've heard this could be due to getting new Mac with Mavericks. can any one tell me (how to find out) if this is related? Also, how to retrieve the lost emails in my Gmail? Thanks

    Hello!
I've just been told that "a lot of people have reported the total loss of their e-mail related to the Mavericks (10.9) update.  It appears the update corrupts the email files on your computer and when the Apple e-mail client sees everything is "gone" it wipes the server too (your GMail account)."
I need to recover/retrieve a lost email sent from my GMail account back in sep/oct 2012. can any one help?
I have searched my account the relevant correspondence is gone. I should not have deleted it myself. I've only started using "Mail" for my GMail account last September, so the servers could not have mixed up the Gmail archives, I think. Either way, I'm not smart enough yet to know how to retrieve this correspondence. The lost email is rather important, why I need to investigate all possible solutions.
My gmail settings i.e. POP/IMAP and Filters are as they should, as far as I believe, but yet, I cannot tell how my settings were in 2012, tho I think I've never changed anything personally. In Sep 2012, arounf the time the, now lost, corresponcence took place, I switched to using Chrome, where before I was using Safari or Firefox. I now use a new mac book with Mavericks and browse in Chrome, most of the time.
Would anyone be able to guide me through some steps, or have any leads on this?
    Many thanks in advance!
    LK

Unless you've done anything to change it, Google keeps every email that ever passes through their server in your All Mail folder/mailbox/label. Even if you delete stuff, they hold onto it, there. You have to go out of your way to actually delete anything permanently.

  • Move email from Inbox to Local Folder using Message Filter moves header only, not contents.

I created a Message Filter to move email from Inbox to a Local Folder based on Date. The email headers were moved, but not the contents. Since I'm using IMAP, all the emails were deleted from the server.
I searched for similar problems and I followed one suggestion to "repair" one of the target Local Folders, but that made things worse. Now the header information (Subject, From, Date (now set to the date the transfer was done, not the email received date) is all blank.
The Local Folder properties indicate the email is contained in
    mailbox:///C:/Users/Ted/AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles/c65xcqqf.default/Mail/Local Folders/Archives.sbd/2010
I can see the messages from other Local Folders here, but the ones "moved" are empty.
    Should this location be changed?
Is there some way to recover the email contents?

    hi Robert,
thanks a lot for your reply.
here is the uplink port profile config:

my NC553i driver version is different from what you suggested, it is 2.102.518.0, any reason why you suggest to use the version you specified?
I have been trying to contact HP support, to be honest, not saying overall, but from my experience, they are much less helpful then Cisco support, I will keep trying.
    thanks

  • Make mail dock badge show all emails in inbox

Is there a way to make it so that the badge on the mail icon in the dock shows the number of emails in the inbox (not just the unread ones?)
    thanks

Thanks for the update. I guess it would be great if both Apple and MS come up with a solution for this issue as it is very critical. Please keep me posted if hear from them.
I found some article in Apple support with the following details. I tried both the options and it doesn't work either. More info here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/2.0/en/ml1002.html
Reindex mailboxes. To do so, quit Mail and, in the Mail folder in your home Library folder, move the Envelope Index file and any folders that begin with "Mac-", "Exchange-", or "IMAP-" to a different location, such as your desktop. When you open Mail, it reindexes all messages in local mailboxes or POP folders and re-downloads all messages from the mail server. This process can take several minutes depending on how many messages are in your mailboxes.
For a POP account, reimport mailboxes. To do so, choose File > Import Mailboxes, and then choose "Mail for Mac OS X." In the Mail folder in your home Library folder, select the folder that begins with "POP-" (for example, [email protected]). If the problem persists, try again, this time choosing "Other" and then selecting the affected mailbox itself (for example, Library/Mail/POP- [email protected]/Inbox.mbox).

I was setting up an iPad Mini and it updated my iMac's OS. It reverted to 2011 and I have lost emails, desktop data and Adobe won't let me in to software. Help!

The iPad was plugged into the iMac to transfer apps etc and asked to update the macs OS. The result is that the last 12 months of emails have gone ( emails not working) as have whatever files were on the desktop. The calendar has also reverted to 2011.
Worse still is adobe software I use for work won't let me open.
    Any ideas?

Is it all or just some?
Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank power On again in the normal way.] It is absolutely/appsolutely safe!
