Lost events in imovie library

Hi. I imported videos as new events and they were all in the library. But after quitting imovie, I can no longer see them in the library. Are they not saved after importing? How can I find them back? The search function did not help me. Can I trace them in Finder? Thanks.
PS I am using a MacBookPro retina purchased in April this year (2014) The imovie on it is therefore very recent.

You'll need to do a manual rebuild.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 09* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
I stress: this is a brand new, green-field starting over. The only thing left from your previous library are the original photos.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.

  • Help with event in iMovie '09 event library?

I am going nuts with an iMovie project!
I am trying to make a movie of my recent vacation (which I do every year). I have already invested about 15 hours in the project. I opened iMovie tonight and tried to view it. Immediately, I noticed something was odd because as my cursor ran across clips in my project they did not show in the viewer and where ever the cursor was over a clip (either in the project or on a clip in the event I was working from) the thumbnail image in the filmstrip switched to light gray.
When I play my project all the music and titles I added play but the clips are blacked out AND the clip's audio doesn't play. The source clips in the event library also play the same in the viewer (blackout and with no audio). The problem seems to relate only to the event I am working with to create my project. I checked some other events in my library and they play fine in the viewer (although I am not using any video from those events in my current project).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Just for the record I am running OS 10.5.8 on a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. I am using iMovie '09 v. 8.0.6. Also, the clips were imported directly into iMovie.

    Thanks for the suggestions guys.
I wound up resolving this on my own. I finally went to Time Machine and restored the folder "movies" under my account name. I went back about an hour before I stopped working on the project. This restored the project and allowed me to continue to work on it. I only lost about 3 minutes at the very end that I had to recreate (much better than recreating the entire project over). It has been about a week since the restore and (knock wood!) all has been well. I have learned the value of a Time Machine back-up.
One thing of note: Immediately after the restore I did have an issue with iMovie not recognizing my iTunes library. Once I opened iTunes and went back to iMovie the library was there.
    Hope this helps someone else.

  • IMovie 10 - how do I move an event from one library to another?

    Greetings,
I have updated all of my projects and events from iMovie 9 to iMovie 10.0.1. They now all sit in different libraries on different external HDDs.
How do I move an event from one library to another library in iMovie 10? How do I copy an event from one library to another library in iMovie 10?
    Thanks,
    John

Simply drag and drop from one library to another.  See:  http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.0/#mov3fa25bae7

  • I copied a series of events in iMovie 10.0.5 to another Mac and can't open the library

I took a series of events on my SOURCE MAC computer, and created a NEW LIBRARY with them on a SECOND MAC computer.  Now when I try to open the file from either the SOURCE MAC  or the SECOND MAC  I get the following error:
The operation couldn’t be completed. Permission denied   “iMovie Library MiniDV” is already in use by “SOURCE COMPUTER UID” on “SOURCE COMPUTER NAME”
I checked the permissions and ownership of the file on the SECOND MAC and it shows my SECOND MAC USERID as having READ/WRITE authority.
Any ideas?  I can't find anyway around this -- have restarted both computers as well

There is no precise way but as long as you have unchecked "Wrapping Timeline" in the "View" menu the approximate time of the start of each clip is displayed at the top of the timeline.  You can also add the durations of each of the clips which are shown as you hover the cursor over them.

  • Lost Events in Library

I only have one event in my library, I used have more. When I open finder and look at the library file, its almost 40GiGs. But only 16 photos show up, when I open it. Any ideas why this is happening or how to recover those lost events?

  • Imovie library has imported without event

I need to work on an edit started by another user. They used imovie 10.0.02, and I have recently upgraded to Yosemite, so have 10.0.06.
I am unfamiliar with the new library system and still the imovie 9 version for most things but for this project will use imovie 10.
He followed the instructions and created a new library with the projects and footage in it.
I've now copied this library onto my mac.
I now have the libraries showing up in my imovie 10.0.06, but there is no footage. The library file is 16GB, so I know it has footage in it - but none has been imported into imovie. In imovie the timeline has made it across, and titles etc are in tact, but there is no footage.
I tried deleting the imovie Theater and Imovie Library file and updating projects and events - but this hasn't worked.
    Any clues?

check in the old events and prohects folders from iMovie 11 for a flie indicating imovie10 migration or whatever it's a single file in each of these too folders. Delete these two or the one from the events and go back in iMovie 10 and click on refresh/actualise or whatever this is called. This help for me to see the migrated prohjevts

  • Merging iMovie 10 events, projects and library...

I had my prior version iMovie events and projects on a nonstartup internal drive (in folders "iMovie Events" and "iMovie Projects").  I hadn't used iMovie in a while, and iMovie had updated itself to version 10.0.5.  Last night I opened it up and used it, and now have an "iMovie Events," "iMovie Projects," and "iMovie Library" file in ~/Documents/Movies
I'd like to move the contents of the new Events and Projects folder to the nonstartup internal drive location with all the projects and events (old and new) in those folders on the nonstartup drive.  From what I've read, that is supposed to be done within iMovie, but I don't see how to do that.  The drive does NOT show up anywhere within iMovie!
Secondly, I only seem to have one iMovie Library file, and it is in ~/Documents/Movies, but when iMovie 10 opened, there were no events or projects listed.  How do persuade iMovie 10 to load the old projects and events?  If I open up iMovie 9.0.9, it shows the projects and events that were created under 9.0.9 but does NOT show the 10.0.5 projects and events.  Is the 9.0.0 iMovie Library file in a different location, and if so, is there a way to merge the contents of these libraries?

Basically no.  Projects are now part of events and not separate from them.
    Geoff.

  • Can not delete an Event in the iMovies Library

I have tried eveything, move event to trash via File>or Control>click etc...I have OS X Mavericks.
Also, I can not import anything to this [email protected]

This looks like a corrupted data base for the iMovie Library. Notice that the event has no event icon and looks like a clip. What you can try is close iMovie and go to the Library in the finder, probably in your movies folder on your boot drive unless you moved it. Save/duplicate it to your desktop as a precaution. Then right click on the original and select show package contents. Find and delete the CurrentVersion.flexolibrary file. Close the Library, reboot and then reopen iMovie. It should rebuild that file and you should be okay.

  • Imovie library & events - how to shrink the files

I am trying to make sure that imovie 10 is not unnessarily taking up disk space. Previously, imovie 9 was pretty simple and did not create these imovie theater and library files, and I knew where to delete the events files that were copied into imove for editing. In imovie 10 however, I have not been able to find any files lingering in the events folder even though it looks as though (given the processing clock displayed) importing files into imovie 10 does involve copying without asking the user to chose like in imovie 9.
Question 1: does imovie 10 store the events files somewhere else and need to be deleted to recover disk space?
Question 2: there is this huge 14GB+ "imovie library.imovielibrary" file sitting in my movies folder. Is there a way get rid of it or shrink it? All the files that I "share" (ie output) from imovie are stored elsewhere within my movies folder (and then backed up). I really can use any disk space I can free up from imovie. I have already deleted the theater files that serve no useful purpose to me.
    Thanks a lot.

    A couple of thoughts....
When you convert your projects and events to iMovie 10 from iMovie 11, you have the option to keep your iMovie 11 Events and projects intact so you can continue to use iMovie 11.
If you took this option, it uses hard links so that both iMovie 11 and iMovie 10 can access the same clips but not take up double the space.
    This has other implications:
    1) If you delete your iMovie 10 event, it does not save you any space. You have to delete both the iMovie 10 and the iMovie 11 event to get back the space.
    2) Hard links do not work when you copy to a new drive, so if you copy your iMovie 10 and your iMovie 11 events over to a new drive, now they will take up twice the space.
    3) Therefore, if you are thinking of moving to a new drive, you should move the iMovie 11 events and projects over (from within iMovie 11). Then open iMovie 10 and convert the iMovie 11 stuff to iMovie 10, and it will use hard links and not take up double the space.
Hard links are also used in Time Machine so you can have the same file assigned to multiple dates without taking up more room. Also used in Final Cut Pro X extensively. For example, you can import your iMovie Events into FCP without doubling up space.

  • Has anyone found the solution to the missing iPhoto library event on iMovie'11?

  • Is there a way to copy referenced video clips into the iMovie library?

When I import video clips into an iMovie event it seems that iMovie uses only a reference to the file. When files are moved things get horrible broken soon. I noticed that iMovie does actually copy video clips into your library when you convert your library from iMovie'11 to iMovie'13. Is there a way to copy video clips into the iMovie library when importing them so that they don't get lost?

  • Restored Events in iMovie v10 did not restore media

Using iMovie 10.0.1, I dragged and dropped a bunch of Events from an external hard drive(iMovie Library 1) to my Mac hard drive (iMovie Library).  Once the move was complete, as verified by the 'pie chart' being completely filled in in the upper right corner, I deleted the moved Events from the external hard drive located in the iMovie Library 1 by highlighting the Events, right-clicking and selecting "Move Event to Trash".  When I went to use the newly-moved Events located in the iMovie Library, the Events were empty.
I tried to "Undo Move Events to Trash".  This placed the deleted Events structure back on the external hard drive(iMovie Library 1), but only the structure was there.  When I clicked on the restored-Event, it was empty.  I also verified that the filter was set to "All Clips" and not "Hide Rejected".
In Finder, when I select "iMovie Library 1" and click on "Show Package Contents", and then double click on "__Trash", I can see the file structure of the deleted Events.  However, the only file in the Event directory is "CurrentVersion.imovieevent".  I don't see the media files so I can't restore them.
I can see that the "__Trash" directory is huge, about 250GB so I believe the files are still there, but I need help figuring out how to restore them.

Many users have lost photos while preforming a restore from backup or upgrading the iOS.   Recall, only photos in the camera roll are backed up to iCloud.  There is a way to turn backups for camera roll on/off, perhaps these users had camera roll turned off.
    See:
Settings>icloud>Storage & Backups>Manage Storage,  tap the device's name and on the next screen, be sure Camera Roll is turned on.
    IMPORTANT...
Photos should be regularly synced to a computer (like you store photos from a digital camera) using either USB via iTunes (on a mac use iPhoto or Aperture to move them to an album) or using photo stream.  If you have been doing that, then you can sync those photos back to your device.
If you haven't been saving photos except relying on iCloud to store them in a backup, then that is risky, as many users have discovered.  I'm afraid I have no advice in this case - there is no "cure".

  • How do I find what is taking up all the space in my iMovie library?

If I find the my iMovie library in Finder, it's total size is a reported 15.59GB and, as far as I can tell, I cannot open it in Finder to see what files are taking up that space.
If I look at my iMovie library in iMovie, it apparently contains one event, which contains one movie.
If I select the move as then go to File -> Reveal in Finder, I can see all the folders and files associated with the event and they come to a grand total of 5.95 GB.
So, how do I find out what movies, clips or projects are taking up the other ~ 10GB in the iMovie library folder?
    I'm using iMovie 10.0.5

When I did that, I could still only see the same contents as shown in the third screenshot above. However, minutes after doing the "Show package contents", iMovie seems to have figured out that it didn't have 15GB of data in its library after all and updated its size accordingly. So, problem solved for now but I still find iMovie to be painful to use and I will probably avoid doing so as much as I can.

  • How to Import iMovie v9 Projects/Events to iMovie v10

I had a heck of a time finding info on transitioning from the previous version (v9.0.9) to the current version (v10.0.7). One of the problems I was having was getting the new version to recognize my old Projects and Events. After some digging here and elsewhere, I figured out what was wrong and how to fix it.
In my case, I had provisioned iMovie 9 to keep the Events folder on an external hard drive while the Projects folder was on my iMac's internal drive in the Movies folder. Don't ask me why they were separated; I can't remember why I did that or even if it was a mistake. Whatever the reason, it caused trouble when it came time to upgrade.
iMovie 10 keeps all the Projects and Events in a single Library file. By default, this Library is placed in your Movies folder on your Mac's internal hard drive. During the initial installation, iMovie will ask if you want to import the old versions Events and Projects. You can opt to do it right then or wait until later. When you do attempt to import these files, iMovie 10 will look in the Movies folder for the previous version's iMovie Events and iMovie Projects folders. If you have both of these folders in their default position, the new iMovie should be able to immediately import the files by copying them to the new version's Library. The old files will remain in their folders and will be useable by the previous version without any problems.
If you have the previous version's Projects and/or Events folders somewhere other than where iMovie 10 expects to find them, you may encounter an error when you try to import the old files. Even if the attempt fails, iMovie 10 creates extra files inside the old folder that prevent a successful import if you try it again. You'll need to look inside the old iMovie Events and iMovie Projects folders for a file called "UpdatedToiMovie10" and delete it from each folder. (In my case, I deleted these files from any drive that had these folders, not just the internal hard drive.) Restart iMovie 10 and select File > Update Projects and Events... to restart the import process. As long as the new iMovie Library is in the same folder as the old iMovie Projects and iMovie Events folders, this should proceed without a hitch.
If, like me, your old projects and events were stored at least partially on an external hard drive, you should consolidate them onto a single drive. DO NOT do this from the Mac's Finder. Move the projects and events to the drive where you want them by dragging them in iMovie 9's browser. Hold the Command key while dragging to move the files instead of just copying them. (If you copy the files instead of moving them, you'll have duplicates on both drives. It's not a problem, but the files will take up at least twice as much space on your drives.) Once the files are located where you want them, you can quit iMovie 9 and re-attempt the iMovie 10 import process by selecting File > Update Projects and Events...
I hope this helps anyone else having this issue. I also hope that anyone who can see where I've explained this incorrectly will please post a correction as a response.

iMovies are not designed to be viewed in iPhoto. You should watch your movies from iTunes. You can SHARE/To iTunes and your movies will be in iTunes. From iTunes, you can watch them on your Mac, on your Apple TV, or you can sync to iPhone, iPad, iPod. You will also be able to access them through the Media Browser in Keynote, Pages, GarageBand, Logic, and iDVD.
The only movies that should be stored in iPhoto are short, unedited clips taken by a still camera. iMovie can edit them without taking them out of iPhoto.

  • How to open imovie library from another mac

I have my iMovie library on an extral, USB drive.
I would like to temporarily take that drive to the livingroom, plug it in to a laptop (macbook pro), so I can view the videos on my larget TV screen.
After this I would like to return the drive to the office and plug it back to the iMac - which is the main machine I use for iMovie.
Is this possible to do without much hassle?  Do I just plug the drive to the laptop and my iMovie files will be automatically viewed on iMovie on my other machine?
Will I be able to easily reverse the process?
Is it necessary to have both versions of iMovie be the same? or not?
    Thank you.

Thanks GeeD!   I have iMovie 11 on both the permanent iMac and the temporary MacBook Pro.  Both running OS X 10.8.
Actually, I don't want to or need to do any work on the temporary laptop.  All the work is done on the iMac.  I just need to be able to play videos on the laptop (which I can connect more easily to my large screen TV).  I want to play the raw "events" - without having to create a project, edit, export, etc. which is time consuming.
You mentioned "copying" the library to the new laptop.  This is not an option for me and I hope it is not necessary.  I have several terabytes of video in my event library.    The current library is in en external USB drive.  I'm hoping that I can just unplug the drive from the iMac and plug it to the temporary laptop without having to copy the videos.    If I do that, will I immediately "see" all the events on the external drive?   and more importantly, will I be able to reverse the process by simply unpluging the drive and replugging it to the iMac?   or will it required configuration to point to a new library each time I move the external drive?
    Thank you.
