Lost events in pictures
Hi all,
I had many "events" in my pictures folders, with time stamp of the pictures date.
I connected my iPad to my pc, to copy pictures from iPad to the pc.
After re opening the pictures, all the events were lost and replaced by number+ "IMPRT"
Any Idea how to restore the time stamp ?
Thanks,
Yoav.

Rebuild the library as follows: launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

I only have one event in my library, I used have more. When I open finder and look at the library file, its almost 40GiGs. But only 16 photos show up, when I open it. Any ideas why this is happening or how to recover those lost events?
You'll need to do a manual rebuild.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 09* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
I stress: this is a brand new, green-field starting over. The only thing left from your previous library are the original photos.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.

Lost Photo or Picture Folder from my Home folders
Hi: I recently upgraded to Mac OS 10.5.2 and after re-booting. I went to open up iPhoto and all of my albums with the photo were gone. I see within the 'Search for" All images folder the photos in them. But the iPhoto album file is lost. How can i restore them?
Thanks. Can you see any pics in the iPhoto Window?
If not: Try these in order - from best option on down...
1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums back.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.

In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

I lost hundreds of pictures from iPhoto after upgrading to Mavericks
I lost hundreds of pictures from iphoto after upgrading to mavericks. does anyone know why or how to retrieve them. i cannot find them on time machine either.
and
Why do you think you have lost "hundreds" of pictures?
What exactly are you seeing
You can try Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database

When I download photos from a flash drive, everything is fine and they show in Events and Pictures, but when I click on the individual pic I get an error message saying that it cannot locate the JPG. Any thoughts?
It sounds like your iPhoto Advanced preferences are set to not copy photos during import, i.e. a Referenced library:
Check your Advanced preferences to see if that's the case. If it is the best solution would be to select the checkbox to copy the photos and reimport the photos from the flash drive. Then check the new import. It it was OK you can delete the previous event with the "missing" photos.

IPhoto events and pictures missing from iPhoto after restoring new hard drive and upgrade to iLife11
My iPhoto events and pictures are ALL missing from my iPhoto Library after I tried restoring my programs on a new hard drive AND upgrading to iLife11! Over the last few months, I upgraded my 2008 Macbook Pro's hard drive from a 250 GB to a 500 GB hard drive and since then have been manually installing and restoring programs and software. I decided to do things manually because I had problems with doing Time Machine backups/restores in the past, so before I upgraded the drive, I manually saved everything to a Western Digital MyStudio 1 TB hard drive that I had just for the purposes of a second back up. Anyway, I tried importing the pictures onto the new library, but couldn't find the hard copies at first, so that didn't work. I then tried deleting the iPhoto Library that came with new operating system, then copying my old backup onto the new hard drive...that didn't work either. However, when I right clicked on the iPhoto Library icon on my external hard drive (the original) and clicked on "show package contents," the folder not only contained the originals, but they were still organized by year and event just as I had them originally!
So, then I thought "why don't I try just importing the pictures directly into the new iPhoto Library!"
I tested it out, and sure enough, it worked! I then tried importing an entire folder (which, was actually the name of the event), and again it worked! So, I literally clicked and dragged my entire 2007-2009 library of pictures (which was about 35 GB) back into my iPhoto Library! AND, this only took about 30 minutes to download, enough time for me to write this post and the following instructions to Recap:
1. Open your new iPhoto Library
2. Go to wherever your ORIGINAL iPhoto Library is saved/backed up, then Right-click (or Control click) on the iPhoto icon
3. Click on "Show Package Contents"
4. Go to the folder called "Originals" or "Master"
5. Click and drag everything INSIDE the folder (not the folder itself) to your new iPhoto Library
6. DO NOT try Importing from inside iPhoto! For some reaseon, iPhoto can't see these images, but I promise, they're there!
I assume this could work on other iLife programs, but luckily I have MobileMe and my iCalendar updated itself, though I did have to do some tweeking...
Hope this helps other people out, GOOD LUCK!I'm re-posting the answer to this problem so I can show it has been answered:
Open your new iPhoto Library
Go to wherever your ORIGINAL iPhoto Library is saved/backed up, then Right-click (or Control click) on the iPhoto icon
Click on "Show Package Contents"
Go to the folder called "Originals" or "Master"
Click and drag everything INSIDE the folder (not the folder itself) to your new iPhoto Library
DO NOT try Importing from inside iPhoto! For some reason, iPhoto can't see these images, but I promise, they're there!
GOOD LUCK!!! -
my pc crashed and i lost all my pictures and music that was stored on the pc. now i have a new pc and when i log into itunes all my music and photos are not available. I guess i dont understand the pupose of itunes and its worth. I thought it backed up all my photos and music, but apparently not. So what do I use so that when i lose data on my pc i can retrieve it again at a later date or after a crash?/
Your content will only be where you put it. It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
You can transfer itunes purchases from your iphone: File>Device>Transfer purchases.
You can import your pics taken with the iphone as you would with any digital camera.
You can e-mail the other pics to yourself, they will never be of the original quality.
You can out a unique contact and calendar entry on the computer. You should get the option to merge the data when you sync. -
lost all my pictures and videos while updating ios7.1.1.
i dont have backup to restore. how can i recover the data back? You should never update without making sure that you have saved everything on your computer first.
You should import all pics and vids before attempting any update.
If you have failed to save the data, then it is gone -
i connected my iphone 5 to my computer for the first time since i got it and it didnt give me any option and just started to restore it from my iphone 4s. ive now lost all my pictures that were on it. Is there a way i can get them back as i did not want it to restore my old phone anyway! i also had my hone set up to the cloud and it didnt work! PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME
Can you try to use another computer?
If this does not work, visit an Apple Store or an Authorized Apple Service Provider next to your place, and show them the phone, maybe they can restore it before you'll have to get it serviced.
Did you try to put it in recovery mode?

I change my apple ID and password like a week now and after changing all my information and MY apple ID, i noticed that i lost all my picture in my camer roll and my photo stream too ;(.. Can anyone please help me how to bring it back all my photos?
I don't know about your camera roll, but for photostream just do this:
Go into Settings > iCloud > Delete Account and then sign back in using your Apple ID information.
Make sure to do the same thing with your iTunes and App Store options.
Settings > iTunes and App Store > Click Email and sign out, then sign back in. -
Lost events bug in kqueue?
Hi all,
I have been trying to track down some odd behavior in a multithreaded mac os x program in which the program gets stuck waiting for events on files forever. I wrote a small C program that exhibits the same problem and I think that this may be causing the problem in my original program, too.
The test program is a tiny "web server" and you can find it here: https://github.com/AndreasVoellmy/epollbug/blob/master/kqueueserver.c
The test program simply creates NUM_WORKER+1 threads where 1 thread runs a loop to accept new connections and the other NUM_WORKER "worker" threads actually serve the connections. Note that the accept thread distributes the accepted TCP connections among the different workers and the workers serve disjoint sets of connections. Each worker thread runs a loop that uses kevent64 to wait for any of its sockets to be readable and uses the EV_ONESHOT flag when adding sockets to the watched files.
I test the program using the http server benchmarking program weighttp (http://redmine.lighttpd.net/projects/weighttp/wiki). I run it like this:
./weighttp -n 100 -c 10 -t 4 -k "10.12.0.8:8080"
where the IP address and port are where my test program are runnning. -n is the number of requests to make, -c is the number of concurrent requests to make and -t is the number of threads that weighttp will use to generate the http requests. weighttp makes the requests but gets stuck with some responses never coming back. For example, on a run with the above parameters, I get:
weighttp - a lightweight and simple webserver benchmarking tool
starting benchmark...
spawning thread #1: 3 concurrent requests, 25 total requests
spawning thread #2: 3 concurrent requests, 25 total requests
spawning thread #3: 2 concurrent requests, 25 total requests
spawning thread #4: 2 concurrent requests, 25 total requests

status codes: 95 2xx, 0 3xx, 0 4xx, 0 5xx
traffic: 30685 bytes total, 16340 bytes http, 14345 bytes data
In other words, 5 requests failed to get responses. On the test program (i.e. server) side, after 10 seconds, the test program prints out (using ioctl) which sockets have any data ready. Sure enough, I see that 5 sockets have a request waiting (weighttp requests are 90 bytes long):
socket 6 has 90 bytes of data ready
socket 8 has 90 bytes of data ready
socket 10 has 90 bytes of data ready
socket 12 has 90 bytes of data ready
socket 14 has 90 bytes of data ready
I would really appreciate getting some advice and help on this problem. I may be misunderstanding the semantics of kqueue operations and flags, or this may be a kernel bug. By the way, this program is based on a very similar program I wrote, which uncovered a bug in Linux, which has since been fixed (http://lkml.indiana.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/1301.0/00065.html). To Linux's credit, the bug only appeared using lots of cores, whereas on os x it appears to occur using just two cores and two threads!
Regards,
Andi
P.S. in case it helps I also took a "sample" of the kqueueserver program at the point that it was waiting on the sockets while the sockets have data ready. Here is the result:

Iphoto 09 open event from picture after search
ok so if I search iphoto 09 by a particular word and find a picture, I can sometimes see the picture is part of an event that has other pictures, but how do I show the whole event? Drives me mad eg If I search for 'tv' I can get a picture (see link below) & see there are 60 other pictures in the folder. However if I right click I can't see any suitable choice to open the entire event. If I double click the event or picture it does nothing if I'm in the situation I show below. (The preferences are set that double click would open event it says). The double-click does open the event if I am looking overall at all the events (ie haven't searched by keyword). I don't have 'show event' as an option when right clicking either (I keep seeing references to this when googling)
eg I click on 'Events' top left (so all events are visible on the main screen) then search for 'tv' in the search box, it displays as above eg I can see there are 60 pictures within that event, yet if I right-click there is no 'Show Event' option. Show event is not even a greyed out option.

I have the Events menu selected (behaves the same if I have Photos as the selected menu):

So if I understand:
1.) The goal is to restore the iPhoto Library from a point before the issues started happening
2.) When you try to go backwards in Time Machine while inside the iPhoto window you get a blank Library when you get to the date range you want.
What to do:
- As you cannot seem to access the iPhoto contents using the iPhoto window I would suggest the following:
1.) Navigate using the Finder to ~/Pictures (or whatever folder you are currently housing your iPhoto Library in)
2.) Rename the current iPhoto Library to something else (Like iPhoto Library Old etc)
3.) While looking at this Pictures window, activate Time Machine and go back in time to a date when YOU ARE SURE iPhoto was working fine and had the images you want
4.) Click on the iPhoto Library in the Time Machine window and click on Restore
-- This will restore the Library from the date in question
-- You will have 2 libraries once the restore is complete. The freshly restored library and the old library. Keep the old library just for safe keeping until such time as you determine you have all the pictures you want. Then you can do whatever you want with it (trash it, etc)
Hope that helps. -
I accidentally restored my iPhone and I lost contacts and pictures. How do I get these back?
Sync them back from whatever contact manager or cloud service you were syncing them with.

I downloaded Aperture and transferred all pix from Iphoto. Everything was on Aperture. Suddenly I have lost all the pictures. I have a handbook, etc., but to no avail. Help!
When this happens to a new user the two most likely causes are:
Aperture opend a different library that is empty. To check this go to File->Switch to Library. You'll get a window that looks somehting like this:
Of course the names for the libraries will be different. What does yours show? Is there more then one library listed. If you select Other/New you get this:
The first library in the list is the currenttly opened Library. What does you window say?
2. The other possibilty is that you have a filter set on the library keeping you from actually seeing the images in it. Go to the Library tabb of the Inspector and select the Photos icon. Make sure the search box looks like this:
If neither of these two actions clear up your problem post back.
