Lost everything in a 'restore'. Any ideas on how to get it back?
So my iPhone was terrible after the OS4 update, with the battery problem and a couple of other issues. A big consensus was to reinstall and 'restore' the phone. So I did. iTunes backed the phone up then proceeded to reinstall the OS. Half way thru installing, it stopped and said Error -9. I tried again, got the same error. So I read up on the support page to see what it meant and it suggested a restart and try another USB port, which I did. The reinstall then worked. It then went to restore from the backup, and it said it couldn't do it, and to try from another computer. Which is ridiculous, since they're only synced to one iTunes, aren't they?!
Either way, after 7 failed attempts (with restarts of the mac and phone, different USB etc etc), I just thought I'd try the phone for a bit to see how it was running, and to see what's gone/changed.
Well, the battery seems to be better, but I've lost EVERYTHING. All my photos and video taken with the phone, all my stats, all my work expenses (really really really important), music.. the lot.
Is there any way at all, of getting this stuff back, without iTunes wrecking it all again? I don't want to plug the phone in to restore again, incase it overwrites/erases that last back up, and then everything is gone.
To make matters worse, my mac is playing up something chronic (freezing every 30 seconds, for 30 seconds), and an OS reinstall hasn't fixed it, so the next step is a clean wipe and install, but I don't want to loose the phone stuff before I do it!! So not the best Apple experience I've had for a long time!!
I'm not entirely sure on this one. But the same thing occurred with my dad's iPhone. We had already backed it up every other time we synced, so when we tried to restore again it just restored from the backup. If iTunes just won't fix it, i'm afraid you have lost everything unless you have a Mac and backed up iTunes on Time Machine of something. Either way, I think you are kind of doomed. Try restoring again.

Your "profile" is the information in your original post that tells us that you are using OS X (10.6.8).
We will assume that you are using OS X (10.6.8). If you are not sure what OS X you are using.....
Click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen
Click About This Mac
Post back with the OS X Version number that you see there
In the meantime, please right-click on the Time Machine clock icon on the dock at the bottom of the screen and then click Browse Other Time Machine Disks. Select the other disk if it appears. See if your old backups are there. -

Okay i had to install Itunes onto my new OS because window's Vista messed up on me and i can't get any of my old purchases back from my account such as music and movies any ideas on how to get them back (i do not have the folder that contains old items from the last itunes or anything from that OS because it had a virus and i just wanted windows 7)

My husband wiped out the library on his itunes account and replaced it with mine. Any ideas on how to get it back? Our laptop does not have his library either. only mine.
How exactly did this happen? Were you using separate iTunes libraries on separate user accounts on the laptop?

Ok. Short and sweet first post here. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
I've done this same process on jpegs many times without issue. This time I forgot where I was in my workflow and tried a batch rename on my raw files.
I selected all raw files in a folder, went to tools --> batch rename and entered my file naming sequence as I wanted it to read. Hit enter and watched the file names change correctly BUT the actual files were converted to "binary documents" and I can't figure out how to get them back to raw. My thumbs are gone. If I click on one of the files, the exec file tries to load in terminal.
What happened to my raw files? There are 255 images here from a wedding that I would rather not edit all over again. Please help!

Bridge CS3 2.1.1.9Ok. The files don't read any particular extension as seen in my previous attachment. F2 brightens my monitor. It is not associated with any other shortcut. Right click --> rename (not batch) brings the thumbnail back but without the edits. All I did in the beginning was batch rename a folder full of raw images plus 3 psd files. Nothing else. You can see that "new extension" is selected in the top field of the batch rename window. is this the mistake and how can I recover my edits if it is.
There are 253 edited images in this folder. Manual renaming will take ages. Editing all of them again is also making me ill. I was prepping the files for client submission which is due today when this happened. -
I had liquid damage to my phone and had to receive a new one so I went home to restore it to its old settings from my back up on 5/8/11. I've had an iphone since 2008 so I have a lot of data and apps saved on to my computer, many of which I paid for. When my back up finished all my music, contacts, photos were restored but none of my apps. Can someone please help me get them back? Thank you!
After you restore from backup, you MUST sync to restore your iTunes content. No iTunes content is included in the iPhone backup. Your apps should be in your iTunes library, just sync them back to your phone. If for some reason your apps are not in your library, you can re-download them for free:

Can anyone provide some feedback on how to retrieve Playlists, I lost a few while syncing my daughter's iphone, after i had synced an iphone and ipod
Any music purchased through the iTunes store can be downloaded again for free as long as you are signed in with the Apple ID you used for the original purchase. Any other music you had in iTunes should be easily accessible in your system back up or from the CDs you ripped from originally.

I have tried re-booting Apple TV as well as the television, etc.
Have you tried adjusting the "Audio Out" and the "Dolby Digital" settings in settings > audio and video? It may be worth trying several combinations of these settings, although typically it is the "Dolby Digital" setting that causes most problems for users.
Also make sure that you have correctly mapped the input port on your sound system to the output, if you are unsure about how to do this, refer to the manual that came with your sound system.
Have you tried playing various content sources (i.e. podcasts, music, iTunes Store video, other video etc), do you have the same problem with all types of content? If you use optical you might also check that you can see a red light at the end of your optical audio cable. Is your optical audio cable plugged straight into your sound system, or does it go through a switch or other device?

How to clear file cache (or buffer cache?) in the system
i found that after copying a large file, say >200M the system's memory drop 200M exactly until i delete the file. it is suspected that the memory is used for file cache. After installing memtool, the prtmem command shows the following: Total memory:
