Lost FCP settings

I recently had to do a clean re-install of the Mac OS and FCP. Before I did that, I copied the contents of my home directory to a backup disk.
After reinstalling FCP, I find that it takes much longer to export to a .mov file than it did before -- several hours for a 15 minute video, whereas before it would take maybe half an hour. I assume some FCP settings are different than they were before.
Before I start researching the individual settings, can you please tell me where FCP stores its settings? Is there an individual file that I could copy from my backup disk that would restore all my previous settings?

FCP's preferences are stored in your home user's folder->Library->Preferences

  • Windows 8.1 Update Causes Lost Brightness Settings / Screen is Dim

I updated from Windows 8 to 8.1 and the next day my screen went dim and I could not adjust it neither with the keyboard +/-, nor with the onscreen graphics dashboard, nor within the power settings.
    How do you fix it?

Sometimes Windows updates will break your graphics driver. That is because Intel and NVidia do not update their graphics drivers on the same schedule that Microsoft
updates Windows, and sometimes the updates are incompatible and cause the graphics driver to do wonky things. In my case that came in the form of lost brightness settings.
I searched these forums for a fix and I could not find one, so now that I know the answer, I am sharing it here.
How do you fix it? You have to reinstall the graphics driver. This is how I did it.
I found the graphics driver install file that was already on my computer and I ran it. It reinstalled the driver in about 5 seconds and my screen brightness functionality was restored.
Where is my graphics driver install file? On my computer it is here:
    D:driversVGAIntelx649.17.10.2932\Setup.exe
Yours is probably in a different but similar location depending on how it was installed and what brand it is, etc. I have a Lenovo
P400 touchscreen laptop with an Intel HD 4000 Graphics.

You might want to download something called an undelete utility. These can find files and recover them even after they appear to have been lost. There are some undelete utility programs that are free. Look at tucows.com
Also, it appears that you have POSSIBLY overwritten the actual files, which you moved manually, with I don't know what, which you moved in PSE's folder location view.
Next, in the future ... NEVER (that's: don't even think about it) move your photos in Windows. NEVER. NEVER. Not ever. Not once. This always (that's ALWAYS, as in 100% of the time) causes problems and usually makes things difficult to fix.
Lastly ... make regular backups! I must say this in the forums about seventy bazillion times a month. Make regular backups! Regular depends on how often you take photographs and edit them. Since my photographic activity usually happens on the weekends, I make backups every Sunday night. You may need a different schedule, depending on your activity level. MAKE REGULAR BACKUPS!

  • FCP Settings for progressive DVD Output

    Hello FCP folk,
I'm working on a project that uses still photos as the only visual content, most of these are historic black and white. Wondering if I can take advantage of this and work towards a progressive scan DVD as the final out put.
Project is being edited in Final Cut 5, OS 10.4.3, playback through an ED and HD ready LCD monitor.
I'm wondering what the proper workflow should be to work towards this end. FCP settings? Output from the editing timeline options? DVDSP options ?
    Any suggestions appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Drew

    Thanks for that Ann.
I've done small samples at 720 x 25  720 x 50 1080 x 25  1080 x 50 before using Dynamic Link (which I must admit I've found very convenient and effective previously) to set up in Encore and burn without extras such as menus.
Playing back on a 37" TV we can't see a discernible difference apart from a little shimmer on horizontal lines.
I think I'll press ahead with 720 x 25 with this project which is what I've used before and am confident with but would welcome more advice on this topic.
I wonder if these settings would be even more critical should I need to output to Blue Ray

  • FCP Settings

Does anyone know what the correct FCP settings are to import footage from tape using the JVC GY-HD100U camera. The footage is HD 1280x720.
    Thanks,

    HDV 720p24.
And HDV is difficult to work with...there is a LOT to watch out for. You have to read these forums...search for HDV...too much to be said. Perhaps someone else will say more.
Go to www.hdforindies and click on the FAQ...that says a lot.

  • Lost Wifi settings

Since upgrading my husbands phone it has now lost all settings for wifi. It started off with not locating any wifi connections including the one in the house and now the wifi option on the phone is completely greyed out and cannot be chosen at all. When you look into it further in settings it shows wifi as N/A. Anyone else had this issue and is Apple going to do anything about this problem which seems to be a big issue and not charge for it seeing as these phones cost a packet anyway!! Tried everything from clearing network settings to rebooting phone and restoring as a new phone but nothing works now going to have to phone Apple to see what they say about the matter. I think we may need to start a complaint about all these issues.

The iPhone includes a one year warranty and if the AppleCare extended warranty is available in your country, the standard one year warranty can be extended by another year.
If no change after resetting network settings on the iPhone and after restoring the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the iPhone's backup, more than likely the iPhone has a hardware problem with the wireless card or with something else.
The wireless card with my 3G failed when the iPhone was about a year and a half old. I purchased the AppleCare extended warranty for the iPhone before the standard one year warranty expired since I planned on using the 3G for two years, which I did. Made an appointment at an Apple store where is was confirmed the wireless card had failed and the iPhone was exchanged under warranty. I was in and out of the store in less than 30 minutes.
If your iPhone is no longer under warranty and your iPhone has a hardware failure, Apple is not going to pay for it.

My ipad has lost the settings icon on main screen?? how do i get it back? or reset the ipad

Swipe from screen to screen to look for it. It cannot be deleted from the iPad.
You can reset the the home screen layout but that returns the home screen to the original out of the box set up - but it will restore the icon to the home screen.
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout.

  • Optimum FCP settings - Pro Res

    Hi folks,
I had a mini catastrophe yesterday with a project and in trying to fix things I trashed the prefs and have lost all the settings I had for working with Pro Res. A project I'm working on now seems to be dropping frames and generally going rather slow, and I was wondering if anyone out there working with Pro Res files could share their settings with me which they feel runs most smoothly and most effectively on FCP.
On the RT tab I have the following checked:
    - Unlimited RT
    - Scrub High Quality
    - Playback Video Quality - Dynamic
    - Playback Frame Rate - Dynamic
And the video processing tab in the sequence settings I have it set to:
    - Render all YUV material in high precision YUV
    - Process Maximum White as: White
    - Motion Filtering Quality - Normal
If anyone has any pearls of wisdom of best settings with any options I've mentioned or any others that could help, I would be most grateful.
    Thanks kindly in advance,
    Matty

  • Old FCP settings vs. new Super 8 project possibly not optimal??

hi folks! I've got a project that I cut that originated on Super 8 film, and I'm wondering if I've got FCP on the optimal settings for exporting it to quicktime so I can make a DVD. The footage looks pretty good but the Boris titles are fairly pixelated though the only Motion I use is setting opacity at 75%, so I'm wondering if the settings from my last project weren't best for this one. -- Should I be sending the movie to Quicktime at a different setting than below? And further, have the current settings already degraded the picture so I should re-import the raw footage?
Here's my current rundown as I know it -- if you can bear with me (my technology chops are not great)
The film footage was telecine'd to a 10 bit uncompressed quicktime movie.
    10 bit 4:2:2 timecode
    720x486 (not 480)
I "imported" the footage to FCP by dragging it over from my harddrive.
When I select "settings" from the sequence that my film currently lives in, it says:
    compressor is DV/DVCPRO-NTSC.
    Scan mode is "interlaced"
    Also, frame size is:
    720x480 (not 486)
    aspect ratio NTSC-DV 3:2
pixel aspect ratio: NTSC - CCIR 601 / DV (720x480)
    Thanks very much!!
    RM

Well, I doubt you have the drive speed to play back uncompressed. I'm guessing you rendered every clip you put into the DV timeline, and that was how FCP was able to play back...it played the DV render files.
Make a sequence with a ProRes NTSC setting...you'll find that in the AUDIO VIDEO settings under the SEQUENCE PRESET drop down menu. Make a new sequence after you choose it, and then copy and paste the clips into that. Then you will have to highlight them all, and then remove the attributes put on the clips when you put them into a DV timeline, so the EDIT menu, REMOVE ATTRIBUTES...distort perhaps? Basic motion maybe? not sure how the clips were affected.

  • Lost mail settings, address book, ichat settings and other prsnl settings!!

Quick question for you. Have you heard of anything in 10.4+ that causes the machine to revert back to startup condition loosing address book content, mail settings, ichat setttings, along with other personal settings??
All of iphoto still has its content. You have any idea? This happened to my parents machine on the eastcoast and I am trying to figure out what happened. Supposedly my father was "doing something" and then they noticed this happened. Is there something he could have done to reset the settings like that? Thanks for any input.
I have read a lot of posts that people are having the same kind of issue, at least with address book.

Hey Jeremy, my iBook is all messed up, too. Somehow it set back to the default settings. Mail, Address Book, iTunes and iPhoto lost their data. However, all music and photo files are still in folders, only all of my emails are gone, which is more or less a catastrophe! Having read your discussion, I somehow have the impression that it has something to do with the user name, I wanted to change the name and then all of a sudden there was a big mess which resulted in having two users now, but all of the folders are mixed up. Can you be a little more precise about the repairing that worked for you, I would appreciate it very much, since I'm not very familiar with Apple products yet.
    Thanks, Daniel
