Lost files can't find

Hello... please help...
I have noticed in the last few weeks that some songs have the ! point next to them in my Itunes library. Itunes can't play the songs... but the songs are still on my Ipod after I sync it. More and more songs seem to have this problem every time I sync. Itunes asks me to search the file, but I can't find it anywhere (even with spotlight). Will I lose all my music? What's the problem??
I need help fast, what can I do????

This happened to me also. I got a new Mac a fortnight ago with Leopard pre-installed. Out of the blue this week, the 'top' half of my library (artists A - L) wouldn't play and had disappeared from the music folder in my hard drive. Along came the next software update for itunes and then the computer froze completely and then wouldn't reboot. Tech support said they hadn't heard of anything like it but suggested I had a corrupt music file somewhere and advised that I didn't re-upload my old music.....so ALL lost (bar songs purchased through itunes store which I understand you can claim back - see itunes support where you can check previous purchases and report a problem)
After seeing other threads recently posted re itunes problems I am starting to think this is not a bad file - afterall, they all played perfectly well on my old pc for the last two and a half years! I can't suggest anything to help...I am lucky as I had backed up my old music just before setting up my new computer. If not I would have lost an awful lot of music and been very very hacked off.
I will upload my old tunes after the next software update and try again.

  • Lost files, can't find them but they're there!

all my files have disappeared from my powerbook g4 but the memory use implies they're still there
on pcs in the past it's been possible to turn the clock back so to speak and restore the computer to it's state at a previous date, ie you mess something up bad but just tell the computer to pretend it's yesterday and it resets to it's status then
anyone know if there's a similar function on the powerbook g4 or os x 10.3.9? or even any other way i might retrieve the data. i would have just written it off as lost but the memory status suggests the information is still there
any help will be greatly appreciated

Try "Data Rescue II" in trial mode and see if it sees your files. If it does, assess whether saving those files is crucial or whether you can live without it.
The software is $99 and is available as an instant download and you can get up and running right away. You can also get it via mail order (I think downloading costs less, since no box or disc), and also at the Apple Store and other Mac software resellers.
It saved my behind after I had a disk go "bad" due to a login/console issue. Best $99 I ever spent. I tried TechTool Deluxe to repair the drive first (which did more damage), and then DiskWarrior, the tried-and-true solution (and it couldn't do anything for me because of the damage TechTool Deluxe did), and with both not working... Mac OS X's Disk Utility couldn't do anything either... Data Rescue II got all my files.
Trouble is with this method, you can't just get started again. You have to reinstall the OS, all your apps, etc. Using TechTool Deluxe or DiskWarrior is supposed to fix the directory issues and let you get up and running like normal. Which I had hoped for, but it didn't happen that way.
So, rescuing the data was the best route, since the only solution for my problem was to reformat the drive and reinstall everything. And without Data Rescue, my files and everything would have gone with it.

  • How to recover song that are "lost", itunes can't find them even though I have downloaded and played them before

Does anyone know how to recover songs that itunes has "lost"?
I downloaded them, synced my ipod, songs were added and I was able to play them.
On a recent sync the songs are suddenly "not found" according to itunes.  I can't locate them in the itunes folder, so I have no idea where itune put them.  BTW-this is not the first time itunes stored songs in a random directory......  Since itune can't find them, they were deleted from my ipod

Look, I understand I still need a card attached to the account. The problem is, it won't accept my card because I only have 87 cents in my bank account right now.
If I had known there would be so much trouble with the iTunes card, I would have just put the cash in my bank account in the morning instead of buying an iTunes card (I didn't expect the banks to be open on Thanksgiving of course).
Apple will only accept cards that have a balance. The balance is so small in my account that it won't accept it as a valid card.
I'm going to have to contact Apple anyway to reset the security questions. That's obvious. Your answers were not exactly helpful. You didn't tell me anything I don't already know, but thanks for trying to be helpful.

  • My iphone was lost, hao can I find it back?

My iphone 4S was lose.I have everything lik IMEI except the mobile phone. Can I find it back? Or lock it.

You only can locate it if you had activated Find my Phone on the device before you lost it.  Did you?  If you, you can log into iCloud on your computer to see if you can locate it.
If not, there's nothing you can do.

    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have to iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.

  • Windows Find File can't find Camera Raw.8bi though it's there

    Hi everybody,
Must be my age, but here it is:
Windows Find File (the search utility from the Start button in XP) can't find Camera Raw.8bi although it's sitting perfectly inside:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plugins\CS3\File Formats.
Even *.8bi didn't find it (or any other .8bi file for that matter). The obvious search strings *did* find the couple of archived ACR files I backed up, including the latest, but not the one sitting in it's normal spot.
I then tried my second PS machine (the laptop) and there the same happened (no ACR file found although its there).
On both computers ACR 4.3.1 is working correctly. I was just checking their location, because sometimes after a camera file ingest session, Bridge shows some Raw files as generic icons, which also have no metadata, and have "no" after "supports XMP".
The latter problem aside, maybe someone knows what I'm overseeing in the file find thing.
No folders or files in the above path are flagged Hidden or System, or anything.
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Ok, That's ready (pffft!)
Now the file find problem. I put a check on the "hidden files" box, an now it actually finds it.
But it's not "hidden", nor "system". Just "archive".
So then I looked to see if any of the folders in the path "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plugins\CS3\" was hidden, but no.
Fine. Heck, I got other things to do. It's not important. Faggettaboutit. Thanks for thinking with me!

  • If my mobile is lost, how can i find it?

I am very much worried about lossing my mobile phone. If mine is lost or stolen how can i find it back?? is there any application avilable for that??

Yes, you can download Apple's "Find My iPhone" App and set that up with iCloud, and if you happen to lose your phone, you can go to iCloud.com, sign in, and find your phone.
There are also some web applications that can do this for you, such as www.preyproject.com that do just about the same thing.

  • Can't find domain file, Can't find domain file

    I am running OS 10.6.8 with iWeb 3.0.4 (601)
I've been using iweb and backing up my domain file (library - application support...etc) without a problem but I can't seem to find that file anymore.
My website is there working and uploading no problem, but I've been searching and searching and can't find the domain file.
I do use time machine for backups, I do manual back up to time capsule as a "better safe than sorry" attitude, I am not sure if the time machine hidden my file somewhere different... ?
Does anyone have an idea where did my file go? Or can someone tell me how do I restore my file using time machine?
I don't want to erase my drive and upgrade my OS to Lion before I am sure I can restore my iweb. I would hate to lose my website
    Thanks!

Download and use  Find Any File  to search for the domain file.  It can search areas that Spotlight, even packages and invisible folders.

  • Fotos in iPhoto are lost, where can I find them?

Where can I find the fotos, when iPhoto is empty?
    Reiner

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • How many files can the Finder move at a time between folders?

I have about 45000 files to move from one folder to another. Trying to do it in one jump by highlighting them all and trying to drag them froze the Finder.
What would be the maximum in a single jump?

I don't think it can move 45,000 files at once, in folders or not.
Finder seems to build lists of files to move (in memory), and does not behave well when the list gets too big.
I suggest you try moving them in batches of fewer than 4000 files at once.

  • Lost files - can I get them off my published website?

I managed to delete everything when I installed Leopard yesterday. This includes the files I had on iweb that created my web page. My web page is still live - is there anyway I can download the files back on to my computer or will I lose everything?
    thanks

to rebuild your lost site you can at least follow this http://alyeska.altervista.org/en/iWebRetrieveWebsite.html as it will lessen the time you need to rebuild it, so follow what this link has to say, then once you publish and all looks good, make sure to make a backup copy of the domain file....!

  • Accidentally Renamed File - can't find it

General tip inquiry...If you accidentally rename a file (or your little kid does) while messing around on the computer - and don't realize it (too late to undo) - how do you find the file?
I'm wondering if there's some kind of safeguard I haven't noticed or good verification for renaming.
I've thought about this many times, but never have run across it mentioned.

    Hi,
That is one way to prevent this if the little ones are kids.
However if little ones are cats for instance that just happen on the keyboard  when you are legitimately in your Own account then nothing can really be done.
The main issue is to devise a search method that might turn up a pic or two (as a Starter if you like)
    1) what was used to rename them
    iPhoto has an Originals Folder
Go to ~/Library/Pictures and Right click the iPhoto Library.
    2) If it was done in the Finder are the change name items in the same folder they were in Originally ?
    3) other apps and Save As or the save function may not be pointing to the same place the items were placed in if a significant amount of time has passed.
    4)  If these files/pictures were ever subject to a Time Machine Back up and you kow where they should be then you may be able to find them that way.
    5) My current Mac User Account on my iMac has a previous Mountain Lion Clone  that would take me back to the Mavericks release.
5a) Prior to installing Mountain Lion I had Lion and the Accounts was actually Migrated from my G4 computer
Some things such as iPhoto are "Split" from this time. As is iTunes to some extent with newer purchases.
The G4 is running Leopard and can boot back to even earlier (file wise) to Tiger (OS X 10.3.9)
    6) If the time delay is not that old then each apps Recent Items  may also help.
I have mine set to 20 items (System Preferences > General setting - this will not increase the current list - it grows over time/use)

  • Firm ware rebuild, notes lost, how can I find them?

Had to have Apple rebuild my Firm ware, then was told to sync the phone as new and not off previous backup. All settings are then of course lost, including notes. Can I get these important notes back without rebuilding from the previous backup?

If there was a bug in the actual OS then yes, it is possible that restoring from back up will put that corrupt file back on...but that is why the poster said after you get the notes you need, then restore again as a new iPhone...
When you're in iTunes on the info Tab you can choose to sync certain items with that computer so that you don't lose them again...things like email accounts, calendars, contacts, notes, bookmarks etc...
if you have these already set to sync in this tab then you should have them on your computer already and just need to sync them back... go back to that info tab and re check all the boxes of items you want synced
Notes and calendars and contacts sync to Outlook

  • Missing file -- can't find -- see it but does not play -- what went wrong?

I was working on a 2 hour long podcast using 1 track - female voice. When I opened the file, the 1st hour does not play. Get a message saying "missing file." I searched for the file on all disks in all folders -- not there. But you can see the recorded track -- it just says it's missing. The 2nd hour is fine. I have no idea what could have gone wrong. That's a lot of lost work. Any ideas? Thanks.

trying to figure out a recipe for a problem is really good, so congrats on taking the extra step (i wish more people would list their steps, it would make diagnosing problems a lot easier)! unfortunately, no, that should not have caused a problem, it SHOULD have worked as you expected. changing settings, or moving regions between tracks should not cause a problem.
stopped and changed to plain Female voice to be consistent with my other podcasts.
just for future reference, you don't need to worry about that:
