Lost files, have library

I'm running Lightroom 1.3.1. On a Mac G5. I had all my files and the lightroom library on an external drive. That drive is dead, will not mount. I do have a backup of the library and I have backups of the files on another drive. What's my best course of action? Most of the files were backed up in September whereas the library backup is from Jan 27.

If the files have names that match those in the catalog, you should be fine. First move/copy the files to where you think they're going to stay, then load the old catalog in LR. In the folders panel right-click on the folders and point them to the new locations (update folder location). Your old edits, etc. should be there.

Lost files - have them on iPod - iPodRip not working

All of my music, videos, etc are gone from my iTunes Music directory.
I have tried to use iPodRip to recover my iTunes library and playlist - It spent a lot of time on the over 2,100 items but nothing showed up in iTunes.
So - any other ideas?
Situation in a nutshell
- Have all my library on my iPod
- Need to get it to my MAC
- Would like to preserve playlists etc.

I just tried iPodRip - just the songs to the hard drive - nope - didn't work...
ANY option outside of these two programs?

How can I copy the playlists presents on the Iphone directly on Itunes ?

I did the same XP to Windows 7 upgrade about 18 months ago. I decided to keep iTunes permanently on the external drive than the c drive to save c: drive space.
ITunes database has pointers to MP3 files located in Artist's directories. If you want to use a different location than the default C:\ drive for iTunes, then you need to recreate the Itunes database by deleting all songs in iTunes, then change the default location for iTunes files to your external drive. Then import the MP3 files from the external drive into the empty iTunes database through the iTunes import facility.
If you screw up the timing of the import and find you have multiple iTunes directories (instead of just the default location), then iTunes has a new feature to consolidate all iTunes MP3 files back into the central default location. In iTunes, FILE, LIBRARY, ORGANIZE LIBRARY, then CONSOLIDATE FILES.
To change the default directory for MP3 files, in Tunes go to EDIT, PREFERENCES, ADVANCED and then CHANGE the location to where you want the Itunes MP3 files to be located (including the iTunes subdirectory under which all the artist directories are held. Mine are on the F: drive or whatever your computer states is your drive assignment for the external drive.
Note iTunes 10.5 has many problems that Apple hopefully are working on....we seem to have gone backwards on working components in this iCloud based release. So maybe keep on using old computer until 10.6 is released.

I have lost my itunes library after updating it and keep getting a message saying MSVCR80.dll is not installed when I try to uninstall/reinstall it???

I have lost my itunes library after updating it. Have tried uninstalling/reinstalling it and it gets so far then tells me that it cannot be installed because MSVCR80.dll is not installed on my pc. I have no idea what this is and have googled it, followed links to sites that say they can fix it, only for them to scan, tell me I have 3 thousand issues and then want me to pay $30 dollars to fix it for me. This message also appears on firing up my pc too.

I've been through the exact same thing and cannot seem to get an answer here. When you go to Manage Storage, does it have something at the top like "19.1 GB of 25 GB available"? I only have a Mail account with 5.3 GB in it and a Backups account with 553 MB in it. Obviously, these don't add up to 19.1 GB. There was no change in any of these numbers when I deleted all the same files you mention. With the free Mobile Me storage expiring next month, this is something I'm pretty concerned about.

Is there any collective way to have Lightroom 5 find lost files?

Though I have tried to move folders and files only with Lightroom, I note that a good number of my images shown in thumbnails in Library cannot be opened because Lightroom 5 cannot find the files. I assume I have moved files among drives accidentally without Lightroom's knowledge. I also note that I can control click and try to find individual files. Is there any way to do this find process for entire folders or drives? Can I import files from a drive (which is the original source of the lost files) in mass and run them through the import function on Lightroom and return them directly to the file from which they were imported? Would this create a new thumbnail in Library but duplicate the files in the affected folder and drive?

Lightroom isn't going to allow you to import images a second time. In the left-hand panel of the library module you can Ctrl-click on a folder and choose to update the folder location or find the missing folder. Have you tried that?

Have you failed to maintain a backup copy?
You should never update without making sure your backup copy of your computer is up to date.
You can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod to computer: File>Devices>Transfer Purchases

I have Windows 7 on my computer and was able access itunes until just recently. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes multiple times and that does not work. Sometimes I can get in when immediately after installing, but then if I close it, i cannot get back in. Now, i can't get in at all.

That message is usually a sign that you tried to roll back to an earlier build of iTunes, but occasionally I've seen it connected to a new upgrade. This technique should fix things.

Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

I am unable to open my iTunes on my Toshiba laptop. I keep getting an error message of "The file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. I don't have the problem on my iPhone though.

Unless you've recently attempted to downgrade iTunes this is probably a sign of a corrupt library file. See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.

I have been reluctant to install iTunes on the new hard drive out of fear that I will lose all the contents on the ipod if I try to synch to the new hard drive.

No backup is a huge mistake.

My computer has just prompted me to download the newest version of Itunes and now there doesn't seem to be any option to "add folder" to library, just "add file to library" so have to do one song at a time and is very time consuming!! Help?!

Use CTRL+B to put the top menu bar back on screen. Add File to Library and Add Folder to Library are both under File.

Copy all the content on your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes. Then go ahead and sync the iPod with your new library.
