Lost final cut projects and events

so i upgraded to yosemite great .. ......then i had to upgrade my final cut x from 10 to 10.1.3 as ithe old one didnt run on yosemite, no big deal, at the time i had one project i was working on in fcp all the others we managed by event manager x and in the respective hidden folders in my movie folder .
when i first opened fcp i opted to update the projects and events later however except for the current working project all the others are stuck in the final cut project - hidden folders and are greyed out i can not select them to update and to top it all event manager x no longer works in yosemite ? HELP
I have tried manually moving them to all kinds of locations but no luck

This is consistent with the upgrade to 10.1.3 from 10 -- the same issues would have surfaced in any OS that could run 10.1.3.  In the earlier version of FCPX the Projects were not in the Events folder(s) but are in 10.1.x versions.  Earlier projects if allowed to upgrade would have been in a separate folder, but with connections to them preserved.
I don't have time this morning to look up the discussions about this, but there are several to be found.  It is an issue that would have better been confronted before the upgrade to Y.  Search the discussions for possible help from earlier experiences.

  • Is there a way to retrieve my projects and events?

I have copied final cut projects and events to my Mac internal drive from an external drive on which they were located. I could not do this via FCPX because of a problem: FCPX being unable to open up unless [it says] some corrupt files are either restored or move. Neither FCPX nor I are able to do this [restoring or moving out of the corrupt files].
So, after copying the events and projects onto my Mac's HD, I tried to open the currentproject in FCPX, but the application states that it has to be opened from within FCPX only.
Is there any workaround by which I would be able to get FCPX read these projects and events [a work of nearly 5 months]?
One idea: can I make a disk image of the projects and events folders and would they then be 'read' and accepted by fcpx?
    Eagerly waiting for solution/s.

    Try Digital rebellions tool,
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/promaintenance/
they have a trial version, 15 days, I think you will find that this may work for you.
Two things that may cause this
Corrupt render files, solution, delete the render files in your projects.
Corrupt media files, Pro maintenance Tool
Also, try launching the event without the projects, this will let you know which is causing the problem, event or project.
let us know how you go.

  • Errors Updating Projects and Events in 10.1

I'm getting so many issues with this update.
Right now, I'm trying to update my projects and events through a crazy work-around where I copied select Events and Projects into top level Final Cut Events and Final Cut Projects folders on my external hard drive. These files were already shifted into the automated "(hard drive) Old Final Cut Projects and Events" folder when I tried to Update All upon first updating to 10.1
When I try to update I receive the following error messages:
After these, I'm asked to Save or Trash. Then only 1 event is imported with all of the media missing.
I'm at a loss. What can I do here?

what file format is your external hard drive? i'm having similar issues and i believe it's because the external disks must be Mac OS Extended format as opposed to FAT32 or ExFAT.
I've been using ExFAT all year and was just told that I should have never been able to use ExFAT in the first place.

  • Final Cut Event and Final Cut Project

I am in the process of trying to clean up one space. While doing this I noticed the I have a Final Cut Project and Final Cut event  of the same name as you can see below in the screen shot below. Is the event part of the project. The project was created prior to my upgrade to Yosemite.
Everything was created in Final Cut Pro X

Hi. Please take a look at this Apple support doc. – particularly the two sections, "is media duplicated…" and "Can I delete…"
In short, removing the folders will remove clutter, but any additional space savings will be small.

  • MacBook Pro with SSD that has a limited disk space (120GB). Rendering in Project File (User/Movies/Final Cut Projects), it takes huge space and the limited disk space would not be enough for the whole editing.

I'm using MacBook Pro with 128GB SSD that has a limited disk space. As we know, when rendering in Project File (User/Movies/Final Cut Projects), it takes huge space and the limited disk space would not be enough for the whole editing.
My question is, Is there any method to get the rendering Projects file saved into an external hard drive which is connected with USB/ Thunderbolt/ Firewire, with huge disk space (eg. 500GB HDD).
Now, new project created in my Mac is automatically saved in (User/Movies/Final Cut Projects) and my Mac has ran out of space to hold the files.
    Thank you.

You have at least 3 different ways to show the project library:
    1) Go to WIndow->Show Project Library
    2) Click the button in bottom left of your window:
    3) Hit the keyboard shortcut (Command-0)
The project library will be shown, occupying the area where the timeline usually is.
Your hard disks will be visible. Click the hard disk where you want the new project to reside and hit Cmd-N to create a new project.

  • What to do about archived projects and events for upgrade

Like many, I created folders 'Events - Archived' and 'Projects - Archived' In whichI put many eents and archives no longer needed and why clog up space in fcpx's windows while working.
Before upgrading, do I need to now move those back into the FCP Events and FCP Projects folders or does the process see what they are and include them in the new libraries?
    best,
    elmer

In order for those to be updated, they need to be moved back to the "Final Cut Projects" and "Final Cut Events" folders. If you have lots of them, it is wiser to NOT do them all at once, as that would create a very big and unwieldy, inefficient library.
I suggest you follow Mark Spencer and Steve Martin's advice on this series of free videos that cover the new library model and the updating process:

  • How to  back up Final Cut project with external hard drive. Absolute beginner, so simple steps appreciated.

Hello - How do I back up a Final Cut pro project onto an external hard drive?  It's a work in progress, not a completed project. I'm a total beginner and a step by step would really helpThanks

    BenB wrote:
The auto-backup is the database only, not the media.
To back up the whole Library totally, first make sure to Consolidate it, then simply drag-and-drop it on to the backup drive, that simple.
The KB article referenced by Karsten suggests one additional step: make sure your copy of the library is not at the root level of the drive to which you are copying it. I have not clue why this might be important.
    Herewith:
Back up your Project Library and events using the Finder
To create a single backup copy of your Project Library and events, you can copy the Final Cut Projects folder and Final Cut Events folder to an external storage device.
If you are backing up incrementally, create a folder structure that helps you easily navigate through your backup folders. You could label the folders with the date you made the backup copy, for example.
Important:    To avoid issues, it’s essential that you place the backup files in a folder (named “2012 Final Cut Pro Backups,” for example) that is not at the root level of your external storage device.
In the Finder, locate and select your Final Cut Projects folder and Final Cut Events folder.Your Movies folder is the default location for all project and event files:/Users/username/Movies/ Important:    If you moved a project or event after you created it, it will not be in the default location.
Drag the Final Cut Projects and Final Cut Events folders to the external storage device.
The folders are copied to your external storage device.

  • Problems Searching metadata in a Final Cut Project Uploaded to FCS

We had an intern go through some footage that was on our FCS and load it into a Final Cut Pro project. He then went through and cut up the footage, made it an Independent Clip in Final Cut, and then Renamed the clip. He created multiple clips in Final Cut which all link back to the big master clip which is in Final Cut Server.
I then just uploaded the Final Cut Project which then created elements for all of the independent clips that were made in Final Cut. Upon closer inspection of the Final Cut Project in FCS, I noticed that in the elements of that project, it created all of the clips that we made independent. Great....almost. Two problems arose. All of the proxy files for those elements all have the same thumbnail based on the master clip, but do have the In/Out points when looking at the proxy file. Can you get the proxy file just to encode the In/Out points and make appropriate thumbnails?
    Problem 2:
With these elements, when I perform a search with the exact filename of the element in the Final Cut project, it will only show me the Final Cut project. I have to open up that Final Cut project and then look into the Elements Folder of that project. Is there a way to search elements of a Final Cut project where the elements are reference files or metadata of a master clip within Final Cut Server?
If this doesn't make sense, I'll try and re-explain.

Yes, I did, but it doesn't show the element only the project and the master clip. In order to actually find it, I have to double-click the found Final Cut Project and then look into the elements tab. I'm trying now to figure out a way to make a custom lookup in the advanced search parameters that would allow me to only search Elements of a Final Cut Pro Project.

  • How to hide projects and events in final cut prox

Hi I am wondering how i can hide my projects and events in final cut pro x and  use them when i want it.
Any help  appreciated. thanks very much in advance.

    Very convenient,  widely appreciated:

    an excellent 5$ investment!
    Plan B) for free:
In Finder, you could drag the not-needed Events/Projects to some other location (e.g. same drive, a folder called 'Events-hidden'. When you bring it back, it could be, you have to tell FCPX to re-connect… less convenient as the ProjectManager, but optional.

  • HT5958 The latest update has already caused problems, Final Cut can't find my old projects and events to update. Can anyone offer any advise?

On update Final cut updated some of my projects and events bringing them into the new interface. I had older projects that I didn't want visible before the update in folders labled 'Final Cut Events (Hidden)'. The update couldn't see these and since I can't find a way of bringing them into Final cut 10.1.
Every attempt ends with a message indicating that no projects can be found.
    Any advise welcome.

Move them out of there and put them in the correct FCP project folder structure.

  • Final Cut Pro Trial Event and Project Folders

I've just started my Final Cut Pro X TRIAL for 30 days on my Mac OS X version 10.9.4. I've used Final Cut Pro in a class before, and normally, I save all of my events and projects on an external drive to save space on my computer's hard drive. BUT THERE ARE NO EVENT AND PROJECT FOLDERS under my 'movies' folder in the finder window. Not only do I want to finish up a few projects I've already started elsewhere with saved projects and events, I'd like to be able to save projects and events externally so I can work with them anywhere. I started a first project and event to see if the event and project files would be created in my "Movies" folder, but the only folders created (which was in movies) were "Final Cut Optimized Media" and "Final Cut Original Media". How can I create "Final Cut Events" and "Final Cut Projects" folders in my movie folder, so that when I drag events and projects into these folders, they'll show up in Final Cut? Is this just for the Trial?? Please help...

    Hi Tom,
Thanks for your help. I've been trying to update my events and projects into the new libray system, but I'm failing. Maybe you can help. I've tried several ways, but mainly when I got to choose the old event and project files to be updated (either be going to File - -update libraries and events - -locate... or by File--open library--other..--locate...when I highlight my old event and project files (which are on an external harddrive), it either says 'Final cut can't find any events or projects to update' (in the case of updating) or (int eh case of opening) it just keeps making me choose a folder inside the project (with all the different kinds of media and changed files)...argh. Does that make sense? Any help? Thank you.

I have just updated to Final Cut Pro 10.1.4 - I have updated Projects and Events on my external hard drives (off the File menu). It's says under several projects 'missing file' - but they were all there working fine before I updated. I am working off 2 external drives - not sure if that would make a difference.

After the update each seperate connected drive should now have a seperate Library.
The older Projects and Events folders would have to be at the top level of those drives go be seen and updated.
Were all the necessary Projects and Events in the corrrct place before updating?

  • How do I find a Lost Final Cut Pro X Project

I have been working for months on a Project to turn old family home movies into an HD video.  Now, the project has disappeared and I cannot find it.  What might have happened?  And where might I find this project?  I would HATE to have lost all of that work.

Depending on the version of FCP X you are using, the project etc. should be in the Final Cut Projects/Final Cut Events folders or in a special Final Cut  Library.
All these items should be on your HDD.
Just realised you are on ML, so your poject should be in the projects and events folders mentioned.

  • HT5103 If i have projects on my final cut trial, and the trial ends, will i lose those projects? or will they stay until I actually purchase the full version which could be weeks later?

I currently have the final cut pro x trial and i really like it... but my trial is about up and i don't have the money to purchase the full version yet and won't for a while.... If i let the trial run out and still have unfinished projects in the program that i don't have saved else where, will i lose them? or will they stay saved until whenever it is that i can actually purchase the program?

If you leave the projects and events where they are they will remain until you can use them again. Nothing will happen to them.

  • Intel and PowerPC Final Cut project compatibility

I have two computers, a laptop and a desktop, that I use with Final Cut Studio. Both run PowerPC chips. If I purchase a new computer with the Intel chipset, will Final Cut projects be able to go back and forth between the Intel and PowerPC computers? I spend quite a bit of time editing on the road with my laptop then get back to the office and copy the project file over to my office computer. When going back on the road, I copy the project file from my office computer and put it back on my laptop so I can keep editing while traveling.
    Thanks!

There is no compatibility issue between PowerPC and Intel as far as Final Cut Pro is concerned. You just have to make sure you have the same version of Final Cut on all machines, because older versions of Final Cut Pro will not open files created in newer versions. You don't have to worry about the processor.
