Lost flagged photos

I synced an event with over 1200 photos to my iPad. In iPhoto for iOS, I spent ages sorting through all my photos and flagged the photos I liked. Today I opened iPhoto on my iPad, which now shows that zero photos have been flagged. All the flags have somehow been removed. I opened iPhoto on my Mac and only some of the flags have synced back, a lot are missing.
I am really quite angry about this. I spent ages flagging hundreds of photos and all that work has simply vanished! I really expect more from Apple from their new flagship iOS app. Has anyone else encountered a similar problem?

That is a bummer.
I just don't think iPhoto for iOS is meant to be such a heavy duty photo app. Hopefully your flags can be restored with a reboot. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • IPhoto '11 - Lost Flagged Photos

Just installed iPhoto 11 notwithstanding the genrally negative reviews (I wanted the "random" slide show feature).  My flagged photo file from my original iPhoto disappeared !! Help! It took 30-40 hours to create this file.  While the flagged photos may be on my external backup hard drive, could the file be hiding somewhere in iPhoto 11 ?

There are no Apple employees here. This forum is for users to talk to other users.
FWIW, I had no such issue when upgrading to iPhoto 11.

Restore the library to a backup copy from just before the problem occurred. Otherwise you'll have to reflag them.

  • Lightroom mobile lost my flagged photos

Lightroom mobile lost my flagged photos. Hi, I am using last version of LR desktop to sync pictures to LR mobile. On my iPad mini retina I am picking pictures for future edit through flagging. But right now almost all of my flagged photos in iPad disappeard. All work which I did via iPad is lost. Have no idea what is wrong. It is not first time when this happend. So right now I do not trust flagging via LR mobile, because I do not know if it will stay, or not. Any idea? thx

    Hi!
I will describe my whole work flow for easier description.
I took my raw files imported to LR desktop library and made a new collection with all of them (2300 raws). After that I synced that collection with my LR mobile. From my ipad I do flagging on pictures which are just syncing to it. It takes some time to get all 2300 synced. So I work always at first 100, waiting for new to upload and flagging another 100, etc. When I went through first 500 (not exactly 500, but something around), I noticed that first 300 are comletly without any flags. All of already flagged pictures were unflagged, looking as never checked. It already happend to me before. I am not sure, but I think that it is happening if I am syncing collection, which already has some color or even flagging rating made from desktop version before. But I do not know for sure.
So, the answer is: it is happening to my synced raw files from desktop version. And it is happening to some of first flagged pictures. For example - I went through 550 pics which were synced to my Lr mobile. 220 I flagged. But after waiting for uploading more pictures (syncing were still uploading new pics), the count of 220 flagged drop down to 120 flagged. And 100 pics were from a second unrated.

Apple's Icloud with Yosemite and IOS8 on devices is suppose to do just that - synchronize between devices so when you get home the pictures you took with our devices will magically be on you primary computer.
You may also want to look into other "clouds" available -- including clouds you can set up yourself (WD offers make your own cloud - haven't looked into it as don't need it)
Thanks for the constructive feedback! iCloud sync generally works well, though I believe it's time-limited-- You'll have to import them to your library from the iCloud sync to make it "permanent" within a few months.  I'm also using CloudStation on my Synology NAS, and I use Dropbox on all my computers although not for photos, because I'm still using their free account. Keeping iPhoto libraries up to date is not generally an issue.  Though I admit 2 of my 3 computers are on Yosemite and I am using iOS 8, I haven't specifically explored the differences in iCloud behavior on the new versions.
The deleting comment is more around temporarily storing them in one iPhoto library, uploading to Facebook, then deleting from iPhoto without deleting from FB -- it's not so much about how to transfer the photos around.  It's pretty easy to shoot 15 or 20GB of photos in a day with a modern camera, and you might find yourself without an internet connection, or at the very least, too spotty to copy that much data overnight.
For example, on a recent trip, my workflow was to load photos from my RX-100 via SD card into my MacBook Air which only has 128GB of storage.
So I'd copy all photos to iPhoto, flag favorites, edit, add to FB album in iPhoto, let that upload, then export to disk, let that sync to my CloudStation folder back on my NAS at home in the US, then finally delete all un-flagged photos in iPhoto (the "rejects"). By the end of the trip, even the 15GB of all of the flagged, edited photos took up too much space (in addition to all of the originals I was storing on disk), so I deleted the Facebook sync so I that was able to delete them from iPhoto.
Of course, I kept all my originals, but those were in 3 places: SD card, CloudStation folder on my Air, and on my NAS back at home (plus any devices that were powered on and syncing to CloudStation).
This worked great in Iceland where I had 50up/50down internet, but not so great at an agriturismo in Italy where I was getting something like 50% packet loss on their point-to-point wifi internet connection!
When I get home, every single original picture goes onto my master iPhoto library on the Mac Pro at home, but I treat the libraries on my laptops as transient places for editing and uploading, then deleting.  This is not just a multiple-computer problem, though -- I am sure many users just wish to upload then delete, and never keep their originals.

  • Flagged photo question

    Hi
Where is the information on flagged photos stored? Is this in a plist file anywhere?
I copied my photo library to my new Mac and lost all my flagged photos. Fortunately I still have them flagged on my old Mac. How can I get this flagged photo information onto my new Mac?
    Thanks

Probably in the AlbumData.xml file and/or one of the library's database files.

You can't view your back up files at icloud.com.
You can't view your camera roll and you can't view your Photo Stream files at icloud.com.
The icloud back up plan allows you to "restore" your iOS device from the files you backed up at icloud.com.

  • When I updated my macbook Pro to Maverick, I lost I Photo. How do I get it back to manage my pics?

When I updated my Macbook Pro to Maverick, I lost I Photo. It seems as if my pics are still on the laptop, but I have a really hard time finding them. I no longer have I Photo. Can anyone help me in getting that application back and putting my pics back in it? I loved the faces feature. Thank you!

    Run the >software update>iPhoto
If you have a legit copy of of iPhoto you are eligable for the Mavericks compatible version. Look for it in your applications folder along side the older versions.
If not purchase it on the AppStore to regain access to your iphoto library as you knew it.

  • Can I moved flagged photos into an album on the iPad?

    Hi there,
While on holiday I used my iPad to backup photos from my camera and I used the flag system in iPhoto for iPad to mark which ones I wanted to share. The problem is I can't see a way of moving the flagged photos into an album so I wanted to find out if it is actually possible to do this on the iPad.
    Additional info:
The photos were uploaded onto the iPad using the native Photos app and have been flagged in iPhoto
The photos are also on my iCloud account
Neither the flags nor editing applied to the photos have synced after iCloud has been updated on my Macbook
Due to the above I am unable to create a Smart Album based on flagged photos on my Macbook
In iPhoto for iPad I cannot see the filename so I am unable to discern which images to flag on my Macbook to utilise Smart Albums (I have a lot of very similar photos)
Any help would be much appreciated as this is incredibly frustrating.

There is not yet a simple solution to do what you want.  The new Photos.app in iOS 8 will bring a much better integration between iPad and Mac.
I just don't understand the point of being able to flag, favourite or tag item on the iPad  if you can't organise them into folders or easily share them between Apple's own apps.
iPhoto on the iPad is simply not yet as flexible as iPhoto on a Mac.    It is not meant for syncing libraries between Mac and iPad. You can share photos, but not albums. And the central sharing place with other apps on the iPad is the Camera Roll. To make photos valuable in other apps, share them to the Camera Roll.
In iPhoto you cannot create albums like in the Photos.app. Only smart albums based on tags. If you add a tag "Flower" to some photos, you will automatically create an album "Flower". But again, these tags will not be transferred to your Mac by the Photo Stream, you will not see them in iPhoto on your mac.
If you want to transfer the edited photos using the Photo Stream you have to add them to the Photo Stream after editing, and that requires to save them to the Camera Roll.
You could use a shared Photo Stream, but that will reduce the size of the photos.  Or select the flag photos and sync them to your Mac using iTunes Photo Sharing.  http://help.apple.com/iphoto/ipad/2.0/#blnkee26bc1f
Save photos to your computer using iTunes
Connect your iOS device to your computer.
Tap a photo, album, event, web journal, or slideshow and tap > iTunes.
Tap Selected, or change the photos you want to save (if you are saving a slideshow skip to step 4):
Select different photos: Tap Choose Photos, tap one or more photos, and tap Next.
Select a range of photos: Tap Choose Photos, tap Range, tap the first and last photos in the range, and tap Next.
Select all the photos in an album or event: Tap All.
In iTunes, click the button for your device and click Apps at the top of the window.
Below File Sharing, select iPhoto (in Apps).
Select the Shared Photos folder under iPhoto Documents.
Click Save To and select the location on your computer where you want to save the items.
To view your photos, go to the Finder and look in the location you selected above.
I am using the iPad mainly to browse and show photos in slideshows, but not, to organise and tag them. That I will do on my Mac.

  • How do I move Flagged Photos Event back to original event?

I made the mistake of thinking that I was making an event from flagged photos within an event.  Instead, it created a Flagged Photos event of photos from ALL my events.  I've read the instructions on how to put them back, but I can't get the events close to each other to drag from one to the other.  Is there another way?  Or can someone explain how to move the Flagged Photos close to the original Event?  I have over 400 that I want back in their original places.
    Thanks!

If you didn't make a back up then you don't have one. And you should. Immeadiately.
If you want move photos to a specific Event, flag them, select the target Event and go EVents menu -> Add Flagged Photos to Selected Events

  • I have lost my photos from my PC. I have them only on an iPod Touch 2nd Gen.

I have lost my photos from my PC.
I have them only on an iPod Touch 2nd Gen.
How can I copy them from the iPod Touch 2nd Gen to my PC?
The software version on the ipod 2nd Generation is 3.1.1(7C145).
I would very much appreciate help in this regard.
    Thanks

    If the photos were synced to the iPod;
    - you need a third-party program like TouchCopy or Phone view to copy them to another computer.
    - Email them to the computer
    - See it there is an app available that will transfer them to your computer. However, there may not be any compatible with your model iPod and its iOS. There is the Photo Transfer app but that requires iOS 4.3 or above but your 2G iPod can only go as high as 4.2.1

  • How do I restore all my flagged photos to their original events?

Not sure how this could have happened, but a month or two ago, I went to view 'All Events' and there appeared one huge mega-event which contained all my flagged photos from all events from Feb 2010 (my initial use of iPhoto) until October 2011, containing over 900 photos.
How could I have inadvertently done this?  But more importantly,
How do I redistribute them to their original events?
I'm considering splitting the mega-event into events with the same dates as the originals then merging those flagged photos with the unflagged photos into the original event.  However, trying to do a single split for the first 20 photos from the original event took over an hour.
Also considering going back to a backup prior to this happening and restoring only the affected Events, if this is possible.  To accomplish this, hopefully all flagged photos would then reappear in their original Events and the mega-Event would go away.  But I havent seen how restore operates and I'm concerned for deleting those pix and Events done since October 2011.
Anyone have any experience with this one???
    Thanks!

Evidently you accidentally selected this menu option under the Events menu:
I don't know of any way to undo that.
Also considering going back to a backup prior to this happening and restoring only the affected Events, if this is possible.
No you'll have to restore the entire library from Time Machine.  But here's something you might want to try:
1 - restore the library(B) from just before this happened.
2 - use the  paid version of  iPhoto Library Manager to import your current library (A)  into your restored library (B) with the option to not import duplicates.  That should get you pretty close back to where you want to be.  Of course be sure there's a current backup of your current library (A) before starting the merge.

i have lost my photos/videos when i imported from my ipad 2 to my new imac latest version OS X 10.8.4

Do you want to switch the current iPhoto Library from “iPhoto Library.photolibrary” to “iPhoto Library.photolibrary” and relaunch iPhoto?
I don't know what to do - please help !!!!
can someone shed some light please ?

So it appears you have only one library on the hard drive. Apply the two fixes below in order as needed to that library:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
