Lost folder named "Home" after Leopard upgrade

This may seem ridiculous but I actually had a personal folder called "Home" on OS 10.4 and when I upgraded to Leopard it disappeared. I thought that it might still be on the computer but that the directory structure might have been corrupted. I used DiskWarrior and was happy to see that the Home folder was still present and had all of the original subdirectories and files. But after rebuilding the directory structure using DiskWarrior the folder still doesnt appear. Can some one help me in transferring the subdirectories and filed to a new folder ... that I will obviously not name "Home"?

Welcome to the Apple forums:
Not ridiculous at all. In fact it was rather common back some months ago.
Apple has a document that should help you fix things:

  • After Leopard Upgrade, HDTV No Longer Displays Full Screen Apple TV??

Fairly recent Apple convert. iMac is directly connected to HDTV (Mini-DVI to HDMI) and A/V Receiver(Toslink). After Leopard upgrade, I now have a black border, on HDTV, no matter what resolution I choose (worked automatically and perfectly on Tiger). In System Preferences-Display, I am mirroring the displays and have Overscan turned off, because without it, the Menu Bar does not display at all. I am wondering if Apple is trying to force me to buy an Apple TV or if maybe I just need to be patient until the correct drivers come out? Apple told me they were referring my problem to the Engineering Department, but I am not holding my breath. Primary need is to view Photos and eventually rent movies, when HD is readily available. Any opinions, predictions or suggestions on resolving would be appreciated. Thanks!!

same issue here. Don't use it very often so could not remember if it was fine previously thought it was. Hope we get help soon.

  • IMovie quits after leopard upgrade

iMovie'08 just does not open after leopard upgrade. It says application quit unexpectedly.
    Any ideas what to do?

I too seem to have the same problem. Am running OS 10.5.6 and just will not stay open. Have tried to find the iMovie preference file and there's nothing there which could be the problem.
I too am wondering what I can do???

  • Lost LP8 authorization after Leopard upgrade

I upgraded to Leopard and now I have lost my Logic Studio authorization. Where are those magical numbers I have to now re-enter supposed to be? I looked on my Logic Studio box and all through it and I find nothing.
Funny how my 3rd party apps made it through the Leopard upgrade just fine, but not Apple's own Logic Studio.

if you go to homefolder/library/mail/... you should see all the folders and files, and there should be a folder for each email account, in each of these you will find the mailboxes for these email accounts. Can you find the missing mailboxes anywhere?
let me know what you find.

  • Audio Lost after Leopard Upgrade on PB G4

I have to admit first off that my machine did have the original "sound looping" problem that launched with the HiRes Powerbooks a couple years ago. I'm not sure if this relates, but it might in some distant way. It was fixed in 10.4.5
However now after I upgraded from Tiger to Leopard I have lost all audio.
Using the keys to change volume shows the sound icon with it at full screen and the sound wave picture part will either be full on or gone depending on the button pushed. But the blocks remain full on. The sound icon on the menu bar is grayed out but full. And in system preferences, it says that there are no options for my internal speakers at all, but the level slider is grayed out and all the way up.
    External speakers don't work either.

Good to go. I just needed to shut down my system entirely and reboot.
    No problems.

  • Downloading linked files via Safari after Leopard upgrade

Prior to my Leopard upgrade, when I would go to my audio site, I could click on the link and it would play in quicktime no problem, if I wanted to download the file... I would use "option" click.. again no problem. Now after the upgrade, if I click the file, still plays no problem but when I attempt to download the file using "option" click, it downloads the html address as opposed to the actual linked file. And when I use "control" click to emulate a right click, none of those options work either. I get the same result. It downloads the html link only and not the file. This all worked fine prior to the upgrade and my friend who also upgraded is also getting the same exact results. I couldn't find anything in the Safari options so I am at a loss..... Any suggestions?

I have the same problem... Prior to upgrading to Leopard, I had a folder named "Downloads" located on my desktop that Firefox saved files to. After upgrading to Leopard, I set the new Apple-supplied Downloads folder (located in my home folder) as the default location, but Firefox still refused to download files.
I manually moved everything from my own Downloads folder (located on the Desktop) to the Apple-supplied folder (in my home folder) and created an alias (for convenience) for this folder on the desktop. Alas, Firefox still refused to download.
Eventually, I just deleted the alias to the Downloads folder located on my desktop and now Firefox will download just fine. Kinda irritating...

  • Recreating iTunes after Leopard Upgrade

Just before I installed Leopard, my MacBook Pro flaked out. I couldn't clone my hard drive, so I copied my files one folder at a time to my external hard drive.
I finally got Leopard installed. After setting up my computer, I opened up iTunes and a little window titled "iTunes Setup Assistant" opened. It gives me two choices, "Yes, use iTunes for Internet audio content" and "No, do not modify my Internet settings."
I don't have a clue which to choose. If I choose YES, does that mean I have to use iTunes to control the volume even if I'm watching a video with RealPlayer or VLC? What do I need to know to make an intelligent choice?
After I do make my choice, which folders and files do I have to copy from my external hard drive to recreate iTunes the way it was before my Leopard upgrade erased my hard drive? I copied a folder named Music, which contains a folder named iTunes, which contains folders named iTunes Music, Album Artwork and Previous iTunes Libraries, along with the files iTunes Library and iTunes Music Library.xml.
I'm guessing I could replace the entire "Music" folder with the original "Music" folder (the one containing all my music, music libraries, etc. To be on the safe side, I could simply rename the newer Music folder (e.g. MusicNEW) in case I have to revert to it for some reason. After doing that, iTunes should be back to normal if I restart it...or could I be causing some damage?
    Thanks.

Well, my problem is half solved, at least. All of my songs have now been restored in the main "Music" library. I'll start a new thread for my next question. Thanks.

  • Missing imported mail folders after Leopard upgrade

After upgrading to Leopard, my previously imported mail folders (from outlook express converted to .mbox) disappeared. I imported again with mixed results. One folder successfully imported but with 2 new but empty folders (at that point I had 3 folders on my mac). I tried to import the second file. It appeared to import, I can see the folder and number of messages but no way to access them. I can't open the folder. I tried it again with the same results. I had no problem accessing the same files prior to the Leopard upgrade. Any suggestions are welcome.
    thanks,
    Dana

I have Comcast email, and I never had a junk folder. However, if you did have these folders, go the preview window where you see all of your email accounts - The window that shows all,of your Mailboxes. Tap the Edit button to the right of the Mailboxes heading. See if the folders are in there.
You can also try closing the mail app and resetting the iPad to see if they reappear.
In order to close apps in iOS 7, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
BTW, creating a new draft email should make the folder appear again as well.

  • Mail sick after Leopard upgrade

    Hi everyone
I originally added my comments to another thread, but that person's problem has been solved, while mine has not, so I had better post separately.
I had no problems with Mail before I upgraded to Leopard. After I upgraded, Mail wouldn't boot. That turned out to be due to an older copy of Mail still being on my disk, and the Dock and Login Items calling it instead. Deleting the old copy and opening the new copy, so it could run its Leopard setup, fixed that problem. After that, Mail would boot.
However, I was unable to download any mail from my POP server. It worked fine before the upgrade, but wouldn't work after the upgrade. Similar to the other thread, the Activity window would say that messages were being downloaded (and SpamSieve would log them), but they would not appear in my Inbox. Strangely, mailing-list messages etc. filtered to other mailboxes would appear in those other mailboxes.
I have quite a few extra mailboxes. The Leopard upgrade has rearranged them. They used to be listed under the Inbox and Smart Mailboxes (I installed MailTags once, but had problems with it, so I uninstalled it, but the Smart Mailboxes I created remain). The whole hierarchy, from the top of the sidebar, was called "On My Mac".
After the Leopard upgrade, "On My Mac" no longer represents all my mailboxes. It has been shifted down the sidebar, and now only contains my extra mailboxes (mailing lists etc.). My Inbox, Sent, Trash, Junk and Smart Mailboxes are now separate categories to On My Mac, and listed above it. I have no idea if this is relevant or not, but I mention it in case.
Following a suggestion on this forum, I tried rebuilding my Inbox. Mail crashed. It crashes every time I try to Rebuild my Inbox. (Crash log: http://www.riverland.net.au/~clytie/Mail_rebuild.txt).
After my attempted Rebuild, my Inbox was empty. All my previous messages had disappeared. There are plenty of emix files in my ~/Library/Mail POP account folder, but oddly, they are very old, many from previous years. Yet I only keep a couple of months' emails in my Inbox! None of these recent mails remain.
I have turned off Time Machine, so I won't overwrite my previous backup. (I don't know enough about Time Machine's bevaviour yet to take any chances.) My previous backup shows emix files up to the day I upgraded to Leopard, but double-clicking on them only shows a title and an empty window. (This may be because they are on a separate disk to the Mail app.: I don't know.)
I noticed that the Activity window would get stuck downloading specific mails, so I got onto my ISP's Webmail, and deleted as many mails as I could (some mailing list mails, spam etc.). Rebooting Mail after that, I could download a few mails, but again the Activity window would show Mail stuck on another message (usually in the 50s or 60s: "downloading 52 of 694"). If I delete that message in my Webmail, Mail will get stuck on another message next time I Check Mail. (I tell the Activity window to Stop, and it says it is Stopping, but never finishes. I have to Force Quit to stop it. Is mdworker related to Mail?)
I don't know if these "blocking" messages have anything particular in common. My prefs on my MacBook or my ISP don't exclude messages on the basis of size, format or attachments.
I use SpamSieve, GrowlMail and PGPMail. SpamSieve appears to be working: it logs each message received, even though they don't appear in my Inbox. However, SpamSieve's Growl notifications don't appear. I am unsure if Growl is working with Mail, although it still shows up in the Mail prefs: it is working with Speed Download. PGPMail still shows up in the Prefs and menus, but not in the message windows.
I hope this information is useful. I don't know what to do from here. Thankyou for any help you can offer.

My question hasn't been answered here, but I seem to have found the answer myself, eventually.
I decided to move the GrowlMail and PGPMail mailbundles to the Bundles Disabled folder, plus delete my two remaining MailTags smart mailboxes from when I had MailTags installed, then restart.
Lo and behold, as my old Grannie always said, I could successfully rebuild my Inbox. All my much-regretted previous emails appeared again! It was an emotional reunion.
Then I tried checking mail, and LaB again, several days of mail came pouring in.
Evidently something to do with the mailbundles or old smart mailboxes was getting in the way of Mail function.
I'll try reintroducing each mailbundle. I hope nobody else has this problem, but just in case, I thought I'd better leave my belated solution.

  • IPhoto trouble after Leopard upgrade

Just upgraded to Leopard and iPhoto would not launch after the upgrade.
Tried to reinstall iPhoto by upgrading to iLife 08 and installation was successful, but when I launch I get a message saying I need to upgrade my photo library and I click OK.
Then I get this message "Photo library is damaged and cannot be upgraded." Then am required to "Quit."
    Help is greatly appreciated.

Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums back.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • IMac randomly shuts down after Leopard Upgrade

My wife's iMac randomly shuts down since we installed Leopard. It wasn't doing this before the Leopard upgrade.
It takes about 5 mins. of inactivity after the machine enters sleep mode, then it shuts down. We've searched the Discussions but have yet to see an answer to our question. Nothing but an iSight is plugged in to the machine. Any suggestions?

Same problem with random shut downs that get more and more frequent making the computer unusable. Took to Apple Store where they did not recognise the problem - tried replacing RAM then power cable then power supply. Said problem was fixed but started to recur within a short time of using it back home. Used install discs to reinstall the original operating system (Mac OS X 10.5.2) and the problem resolved - on upgrading to Mac OS X 10.5.8 the problem immediately recurred. Have gone back to 10.5.2 now and all seems okay.
Seems strange that there are so many postings about this and Apple Store (Genius staffseem to be unaware of it as a problem).

  • User account not showing up in login screen after Leopard upgrade

One of my admin accounts is no longer showing up at log in. I did the upgrade and password suggestions on the support sight... titled Unable to log in to account after an upgrade but still no good. The only account affected did have a password of 8 characters or more.
I go to open System Preferences when in a different account with admin rights and I don't see my original account as an existing user? I can see my original stuff in the user folders, but I am not listed as a user in the Account Preferences or Login. I also cannot create a new user with the same name as my old login as that name is apparently(!) already in use. I have an account with admin rights that is showing up.
From a different thread it seems that many others are having this problem thus I think it warrents its own thread. What is the easiest way to bring back my account and data... I know it is there it just is not showing up at log in.
tbigsmo wrote this from other thread... hmmmm
One more thing, I created a new user and copied over all folders from my old user account and that didn't even think about working. The last solution was suggested by the apple 800 number. This is what I was going to try next, but now am waiting. Also the other thread was very hard to follow as many folks did not have access to a working user admin account.
How can I find myself too?

Turns out you're both right, sort of...
    * The Guest Account is hidden because it's a sub 500 user, so you guys were on the money there. (I hadn't realized it was a sub-500 user...)
    * Using the hint at the link posted by V.K. to hide the secret administrator hides it ONLY from the login window, but not from the Accounts section of System Preferences...so, that solution doesn't work for me. (This is going on a master image, and the users will have admin rights, so they would be able to delete the secret administrator account...)
So, I'll just have to live without having the actual Guest account active (which I need active for use with Orbicule Undercover,) and instead I created a standard user (with a few parental controls) named "Guest User."
Thanks, both of you, for your help.

  • IChat video no longer working after Leopard upgrade

I always used to be able to video chat with everyone and then after my Leopard upgrade, no such luck... I looked through the user tips and here is what I have done.
    1) Have you done the Quicktime Streaming setting ?
    Yes, I have it set
    2) Are you running your Mac with the Firewall On ?
    Nope
    3) Did you upgrade from Panther ?
    Nope
    4) How are you connected to the internet ?
Airport Extreme. Do I need to do set anything? We use it in 802.11n and nothing else.
    5) Do you have any iChat Add-Ons ?
    Nope
    7) Does it have anything to do with connecting to a PC ?
    See Here and here
    8) List your Connection speed
    6.7Mbps
    Any ideas??
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    2) Set the Firewall in Leopard to Allow Specific applications and service and add iChat to the list.
With an Airport Extreme I expect you have been getting Error 7
If the Modem is a Cable modem then nothing should be done to the Airport
If the modem id SDSL and routes then the Airport should not Share An IP and also the ports in the modem need to be opened with UPnP or pointing at the IP the computer has after you stop it Sharing an IP.

  • Problems after Leopard upgrade with ATI 9800 Pro 256MB

I don't know if this is related.. but I've been battling multiple problems ever since I upgraded my G5 to Leopard a week ago. Everything was perfect under Tiger.
The problem that only occurred directly after upgrading to Leopard... is that my graphics now get corrupted and garbled. I've got two video cards running two LCD monitors. The card giving me problems is the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (256MB). What happens is.. first all the window shadows and top menu bar start getting checkerboard patterns.. then the whole screen starts getting variants of different colors and checkerboard patterns. After awhile and refreshing the screen a few times... the problem goes away for a bit. Then comes back.
Again, this card and my entire system and drives were working fine under Tiger. Now, I don't know if I have a bad card? Is there something wrong with Leopard on my G5 2Ghz DP? Did my Maxtor 750GB triple interface drive just go bad with the upgrade?
I don't know where else to look, I'm guessing the "geniuses" at the Apple store won't help me since this machine is out of warranty. Any help would be HUGELY appreciated. I've been battling all these problems ever since I started the Leopard upgrade 4 days ago and have not got much sleep.

I've already reset PRAM with the option, command,P,R keys... letting it chime a couple times... and have already done this many times over the last few days. Doesn't seem to help. I don't know how to reset NVRAM via open firmware and the instructions are vague. But, supposedly a PRAM reset is all you have to do.
If it is a heat problem, why would it only have presented itself directly after a Leopard upgrade? It also does it when I boot off the Leopard disk. Actually does it worse. I'd just get a new card if I wasn't suspicious about the Leopard upgrade... not convinced it's a hardware problem yet. Though the card is mounted on the bottom slot above the CPUs. It has a fan on top that appears to be working but it doesn't look like much clearance between the card and the top of the CPUs case.
I could move it up a slot to give it more air... but it still doesn't explain why until last Monday, it worked fine under Tiger.
