Lost folders on exchange server

My Mail is configured as IMAP account communicating with an exchange server. Works fine with a quite big collection of emails stored, altogether 2-3 GB. Recently, several folders with lots of emails disappeared, and I have no idea why. Deleting a folder is is not done with a single accidental click, so its quite mysterious. At that time, I tried to use Entourage instead of Mail/iCal (which is rather slow compared to Mail due to continous syncing), may be this parallel access to the mail server was dangerous ?
I am afraid that this will happen again, and with more critical folders than the first time.
Any hints what the reason could be ?

Hi Alfrichard,
I'm no expert on this subject, but have had to learn about exchange servers connecting my Mac to one. One thing I did read is that exchange has a limit on mailbox size. You said you had 2-3GB of emails stored. I think Exchange has a limit of 2GB, so maybe you reached that limit, and now folders aren't being read properly? Can you still send and receive emails OK? Can you check to see if the folders still exist through Outlook Web Access, or on a PC?

  • Migrating Public Folders on Exchange Server 2007 SP1 to Exchange Online\Office 365

    Hello,
    Our company is looking to migrate from Exchange 2007 on premises to Exchange Online/Office 365. We have a number of public folders on our exchange server that function similarly to how the new shared mailboxes work in Exchange Online. That is to say that
    we have many outside users (customers and wholesale dealers) emailing this public folder ([email protected]) and our end users are given permission to view and respond as themselves ([email protected]). I've been looking all over but haven't found a clean
    way to migrate the current public folders directly into shared mailboxes. I'd just start from scratch, but we want to keep the records of the emails we've received at these public folders for customer support reasons. Can anyone help?

    Hi psh8989,
    According to your description, I know that you want to migrate public folder from Exchange 2007 to Office 365.
    Since Office 365 is different from Exchange On-Premises, I suggest ask Office 365 Forum for help so that you can get more professional suggestions. For your convenience:
    http://community.office365.com/en-us/default.aspx
    However, I can also share some information for your reference : )
    Based on my knowledge, Exchange supports moving your public folders to Office 365 and Exchange Online from Exchange 2007 SP3 RU10 or later. I notice that your Exchange server version is SP1, please upgrade to SP3 RU10 first and perform migration.
    More detailed information to see:

  • Impossible to open mail folders outlook-exchange server

    After setting an exchange server 2010 in a domain i created the users' mailboxes. Now i want to configure the users' computers in the domain so that they can send & receive e-mails with Microsoft outlook. But i got 2 problems. The first one is that while
    i was configuring the user's computer with outlook i was asked to configure the computer's default gateway ip address. Why is it compulsory to configure it?what is its use?
    The second question is that after connecting the user's to his/her mailbox through outlook i can't access outlook's GUI to send & read the received mail bcz i got this following message:"it's
    impossible to open default mail folders.Microsoft exchange is actually busy.If this message always appears within 30 minutes contact your system administrator". What should i do to fix this issue? Hope you will help. thx in advance

  • Mail.app suddenly lost connection to exchange server

    Hello
    I have 3 (at least) different mail.app accounts (on different macs) that have lost the connection to our exchange server and is not able to reconnect to it..
    We can access the mails from webmail or from Entourage.
    At first we thought that it was the latest update to mail.app but we have found others on the internet with the same problem (before the update). Sadly they have not provided us with the sollution to the problem.
    I plan to re-boot the exchange server on sunday and will update the post with the result.
    But if anybody have had the same problem and found a solution, then I would very much like to hear about it.

    I'm having the exact same issue. However, since I'm not in the IT department I cannot reboot our Exchange server. Were you able to find a solution?

    Any help?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    What’s the user impact? If the issue only occur on specific users, I suggest we firstly take the troubleshooting from the client side.
    If the issue occurs to all the users, it’s seems the Outlook sync issue with the CAS server, not like a database issue. Do you configure the NLB for the CAS server?

  • I lost my contacts and mail folders on my exchange server but they are still on my MAC. How can I resync?

    I run both a MAC and a PC with two different mail clients Entourage vs. Outlook. I have never had a problem with the clients syncing with the Exchange server until I did an archive of all emails in outlook that were older than this year. Now some subfolders have disapeared on the PC and the Exchange server but still show up in Entourage. How can I resync Entourage to the Exchange and have Exchange server "accept" the Entourage folders as correct?
    Also I use an Iphone and backup to the icloud. So why did my contacts disapear from the iphone and are not restored via icloud? The missing contacts also disapeared from exchange.
    Iphone 4s ver 5.1.1
    Exchange 2003
    MacBook Pro OSX 10.5.x ( I think - since the finder->about this Mac button doesnt work)
    Entourage 12.3.3
    Thanks so much.

  • IMAP/Exchange Server integration - finally getting all of my folders

    This may or may not be the right place to post this - moderators, please move if not.
    My IT guys were able to get my iPhone talking to our Exchange 2003 Server via IMAP earlier in the week - they had to turn on the IMAP service and open the appropriate port(s). Problem was, I was only seeing my inbox. If my path prefix was set to "INBOX", I saw the inbox plus any sub-folders under inbox. If the prefix path was set to "/", I saw only the inbox - no subfolders under inbox and no other folders at all.
    After testing and surfing, I finally found a solution. This may or may not work for you but as I sit here now, I have full access to ALL of my Exchange folders. AND, it also solved the issue of items sent from my iPhone not going into my Sent Items on the server side and deleted not going into the server Deleted Items. [Still no solution to the riddle of items deleted from my inbox still leaving a copy in my server inbox).
    I deleted all of my mail accounts on the iPhone. Just to be sure, I powered off the iPhone and then back on (I've been a Windows guy for too long, I guess - reboots are a way of life on the other side). I then set up a new IMAP account (not Exchange - I set it up as IMAP under Settings/Mail/Add Account/Other) using all of the same setting as my old account (which was set up as Exchange instead of Other). I did not change anything under Advanced. Presto! I checked my Exchange account and I had every folder - all of my private folders and even all of the Public folders on the Exchange server.
    To solve the problem of making sure I got my Sent & Deleted Items to go into the appropriate Exchange folders, I went into Advanced mail settings on the iPhone and changed the default location of Sent & Deleted to their respective counterparts on the Exchange server.

    I had the same experience. It was just frustration and not knowing anything else to try that made me set up the account under IMAP4 when a specific Exchange option is available.
    As to the deleted item question, I posted this in another thread:
    I haven't had a full day to verify this but the settings-Mail-account - advanced has a default setting of NEVER under the remove option. I take this to mean that it never removes deleted items. I changed it to one day since there is not a "immediate" option.

  • All sub-folders in Mac Mail cannot synchronize with Exchange Server 2010

    Hi all,
    All sub-folders under Inbox in Mac Mail cannot be synchronized with Exchange Server 2010. There are 2GB messages size in Inbox folder and 500MB messages size under Inbox's sub-folders. All messages can be sent out and received and it can work in Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010 normally. However, all messages in sub-folders cannot be synchronized (empty sub-folders).
    Does this problem relate to message synchronization order of Mac Mail with Exchange Server? Do all sub-folders messages be synchronized after synchronization complete of Inbox? The synchronization of sub-folders will not happen if the synchronization of Inbox does not complete, doesn't it?
    All messages synchronization is over internet. Can anybody help?
    Thanks a lot

    Hi,
    1.please check the mailbox send and receive quota for exchange 2013 migrated mailbox.
    2.Please check the email attributes of the exchange 2013 migrated mailbox because it seems to be a problem with that particular mailbox.
    3.Then do the message tracking and that would be the only way to find the where the send messages has gone.
    4.Please check and confirm you have an enough space on the disk where exchange queue database is residing.
    I think I need to create a receive connector in the 2013 to receive from 2010 ?
    No need ,by design  exchange 2013 cas server default frontend receive connector will be having an
    entire ipv4 and ipv6 segment and anonymous connection is checked by default.
    I think I also need to create a send and receive connector for 2013 users to each other?
    No need , an intra organisation send connector and the default receive connectors in exchange will be used
    for internal mail flow between the exchange 2013 users.
    Please reply me if you have any queries .

    Our exchange server crashed and we lost all contact and calendar data.  We found an app to get the contacts off of people's phone to import but can't find the same for calendar.  How do I get my calendar info off my phone and in to new exchange server?

    You'd have to think through this, but it seems like if you are using Outlook, and the items vanished from the Outlook client as well as the server,that you could re-populate Outlook using iTunes.

  • What are the /rpc/ and /ews/ folders used for in Microsoft Exchange Server?

    I come across these two folders constantly when seeing the Microsoft Exchange server externally (other folders are usually /owa/, /powershell/ and /ecp/.
    I've looked everywhere online I can think of but cannot find an easy-to-understand description that clearly understands it.
    I notice that both folders are blocked by login boxes which are usually either Basic or NTLM authentication, why is this? Should they be hidden completely from external access?
    Any help will be much appreciated, this is also my first post so apologies for any conventions I've missed.

  • Error when trying to search for folders within an Exchange server

    I am working on an existing application that searches folder within an exchange server in asp.net C#
    The code is very basic is like this
    FolderView view = new FolderView(int.MaxValue);
                view.PropertySet = new PropertySet(BasePropertySet.IdOnly);
                view.PropertySet.Add(FolderSchema.DisplayName);
                view.PropertySet.Add(FolderSchema.FolderClass);
                view.PropertySet.Add(FolderSchema.ParentFolderId);
                view.Traversal = FolderTraversal.Deep;
                FindFoldersResults findFolderResults = service.FindFolders(new FolderId(WellKnownFolderName.Root, mailbox), view);
    This code has been working on another Exchange server before.
    However when I try to change the exchange server I try to scan I get an error like this :
    Microsoft.Exchange.WebServices.Data.ServiceVersionException: Exchange Server doesn't support the requested version.

       at ExchangeSyncService.ExchangeToSqlService.SyncFolderForSubUser(ExchangeService service, Mailbox mailbox, Int32 nUserID)
    The Exchange server that succeeded and failed are both Exchange 2010.  I am searching are both Exchange 2010, and I checked the documentation that FindFolder is supported by all versions of Exchange 2010.
    Is it really a version error or something else? Anyone have any insight on this?

    problem solved thanks Glen can I ask you a new question? I ran into another error after solving that problem I got an error message that says
    Microsoft.Exchange.WebServices.Data.ServiceResponseException: The SMTP address has no mailbox associated with it.

       at ExchangeSyncService.ExchangeToSqlService.SyncFolderForSubUser(ExchangeService service, Mailbox mb, Int32 nUserID)
    The line of code that triggers this problem is
    FolderView view = new FolderView(int.MaxValue);
                view.PropertySet = new PropertySet(BasePropertySet.IdOnly);
                view.PropertySet.Add(FolderSchema.DisplayName);

     view.Traversal = FolderTraversal.Deep;
                FindFoldersResults findFolderResults = service.FindFolders(new FolderId(WellKnownFolderName.Root, mb), view);
    The error gets triggered on service.FindFolders. I am trying to grab all the folders from 1 user's account I am trying to access with a super admin account that has all access to all mailbox to all users on the server.
    Any idea what is going on there?
    It worked on my previous server just not working on this new server here.

  • Help with Gmail IMAP in Mac Mall: Folders transfered from Exchange server

    I'm in the process of migrating a mail account from an Exchange server over to Goggle Apps. I've transfered all old mail and the existing Exchange folder structure over to Gmail. Gmail doesn't recognize folders but instead reads the folder structure as Labels. When the account is subsequently imported into Mac Mail it appears that the orgiginal Exhange folder structure holds on the other side, which was my intent. These folders appear in Mail within the Mailboxes>Inbox.
    However, there doesn't seem to be a way to insert a new folder into the Gmail IMAP account within the Inbox folder structure. I have successfully created a new "Mailbox" in Mail, but this appears to get inserted into the local version of the Gmail account much lower on the left hand side bar. It seems that I can pick up the "Mailbox" once it is created and move it up into the intended location, but only as a sub-folder. I am not able to promote it to the desired heirarchy or intended location.
    Does anyone have any history with this or possibly a fix or suggestion?
    Thanks!

    My recollection is that unless you are a paid Hotmail account member, you cannot use Mail. Do a search within the discussion group, as I am not an expert, but I recall not getting Hotmail for that very reason.
    Perhaps give gmail a try.....
    That said....I still need some help with my posting! So please and thank you.

  • Exchange server public folders

    Hey,
    we are using an Small Business Server 2003 with some Public Folders on our Exchange Server. In these folders you find for example eMails for the recipent address [email protected]
    Does someone know how to use my iPhone to synchronize these public folders too ? Currently it doesn't work.
    Regards,
    Thomas

    I've been trying an outlook plugin called QSynchronization (with outlook 2003):
    http://www.olfolders.com/Lang/English/QSync/qsync1.htm
    and it seems to work great, it syncs my public folder calendar to my personal calendar on the exchange server which my iphone accesses. so far auto-syncing and invitation/meeting notification accepts and declines are working fine too

  • Problems syncing Iphone with Public folders in exchange on our server?

    We have downloaded and installed the latest version of Itunes. We have our calendars as public folders on our office exchange server. When we go to set up the sync, under calendars the first time we open it up, it shows a list of our public calendar folders but they are all greyed out and only gives us the option of "calendar". Once we sync as a test to see what happens, the list of our public folder calendars no longer appears. What do we need to do, to sync our Iphone, using Itunes, with the public calendar folder on our server. I know it sees them because of the initial list. But I can not get the phone to sync to a public calendar. Any helpful suggestions?

    Tried that, I get the following when I go to the Public Folder Management Console:
    Cannot complete the operation because there isn't an available public folder database on server
    And even if I did that how does that help me retrieve my missing information?
