Lost handles on the gradient tool in LR4

Hi,
Does anyone know the quick fix for this problem? Currently when I use the gradient tool I have no way of gettng back into the individual gradients that I have created - the little clickable circles that used to show up on the image have gone! Have tried everything I know about without reinstalling the software as Im scared of damaging/ loosing my catalogues and settings. Before you ask, yes I am in the gradient tool - the adjustments panel is viewable and apart from invisible handles seems to work as usual.
Cheers,
Emma

Genius - thanks so much my migraine is fading already!

  • Illustrator CS6 crashes ,on my mac, when I use the gradient tool. Any help out there?

    My illustrator cs6 crashes when I use the gradient tool. I'm using a mac with mac os 10.9.3.
    This driving me mad... any help out there?

    mr.roo,
    The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Using the Gradient tool to change button text

    I have had a request to change the text on a number of buttons on the website that I am maintaining. I thought it would be a simple case of cropping the text, editing this using the background colour and then pasting back in. The background colour, however, seems to be graduated so when I paste it back in, it doesn't match. What is the easiest way of using the Gradient tool to achieve this?
    Sorry if this seems a bit on a 'RTFM' request, but time is of the essence.
    Thanks.

    I see, the buttons are all pixels at this point.
    That's still pretty easy...
    1.  Edit the text out of the original button by duplicating the part of the button that doesn't have text over it.  You can just use the rectangular marquee and duplicate some of the gradient to the right or left of the text and move it over the text.  It will take a little care, but it's pretty easy if you work zoomed-in.
    2.  Determine what font they were using through a site like http://www.whatthefont.com.  In this case it looks like a pretty close match to Tahoma Bold.
    3.  Choose the Text tool and type the same text, then use the various adjustments in the CHARACTER panel to get it to match very closely.  Looks like it needs to be horizontally scaled in width to 110% or so.
    4.  Erase that text then type the text you want.
    Hope this helps!

  • I used to be able to "turn on a lightbulb" using the gradient tool in CS5. How do I do it with Creative Cloud? It's not the same procedure.

    I am accustomed to being able to "light lightbulbs" and make candle flame glow with just using the gradient tool in CS5.
    Creative Cloud doesn't work using the same procedures.
    Please help.

    And what program?

  • Where is the gradient tool?

    Hi,
    Where is the gradient tool in Flash CS4? Please reply.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    There is no gradient tool in Flash but there exist a Gradient Transform Tool (which is inside the Free Transform Tool, pls click and hold on this tool to view the Gradient Transform Tool) that helps you to modify/transform the gradient applied.
    However you can apply a predefined/custom gradient from COLOR panel and saved gradients from SWATCHES panel. To Define a gradient from COLOR panel, you can choose Linear or Radial from Type drop down and you can adjust the gradient on the bottom of the panel using gradient sliders and color stops.
    Thanks!

  • Light Balance and the Gradient Tool.

    Why is it, that the Temperature, in the Gradient tool, in LR5 (and previous versions), is a number scale and not a Kelvin temperature, like the white balance scale in the "Basic" menu? They are the same thing, simply in the gradiant tool, it pertains to only that adjustment.  To me, it seems confusing..

    Because the temp, tint in the local adjustments are not strict Kelvin adjustments, just local temp/tint adjustments. The numbers are relative, not absolute.

  • (CS4) Question about the gradient tool

    There was a time when the default behavior for the gradient tool was "foreground to transparent"
    Then, at some point, the default behavior became "repeat last gradient" - even if the last gradient was an FX applied to a layer.
    I find the latter annoying as hell, and slowing me down considerably, in that I have to click on the gradient and manually select "foreground to transparent" every time I need to use it.
    Is there any way to change this default behavior?
    Thanks!

    Nope. I filed a bug report on this way back then, but apparently it was not important enough to be changed back in a patch update.

  • Illustrator CS6 bucket tool has disappeared -- there is no flyout menu on the gradient tool

    This happened suddenly. I've closed and restarted Illustrator several times. Still no paint bucket tool / flyout menu on gradient tool. Any advice?

    Try the Shape Builder tool. Click and hold until the options appear.

  • Where is the gradient tool in Edge Animate 1.5 on a Mac?

    I've watched the tutorials and videos but it simply doesn't appear in my color palette where it does within the videos. Could someone please help me?

    Hi, beeftastic-
    There are two color pickers - one is for solids and the other is for gradients.  Here's a screenshot of the properties panel with the gradient picker icon highlighted.
    Hope that helps!

  • My Mac completely seizes when using the Gradient Tool in Photoshop CS5

    I've recently upgraded to CS5 and in tandem have replaced my 8Gb of RAM with 16Gb on an iMac 27" with a 2.8Ghz Intel Core i7.
    The problem that I've encountered with Photoshop seems to be connected with the COMBINED effect of these two upgrades. I just need to determine where the problem lies.
    Whilst attempting to apply a gradient (white to transparent) using Photoshop CS5 on a CMYK file my Mac completely seizes. And I mean completely! No 'force quit' option, nothing. Even the little light on my mouse goes out. However, suspecting that it may be a CS5 problem I tried the same procedure using CS4. Hey presto – no problem. Narrowing the area down still further I re-installed the original 8Gb chips and the problem went away. Back to the 16Gb and the problem reoccurs. I've also found that using the 'Auto Merge' facility also causes the same seizure.
    So, is it a RAM problem or a CS5 problem or a combination of the two? I've run Memtest the result of which indicated that the new RAM was behaving itself. The new memory is Kingston's finest and has had no adverse effects anywhere else on the system. If anyone can come up with a definitive answer I'd be grateful, especially if it means I can get my memory supplier to exchange my purchase gratis.

    If the whole machine freezes, then you are most likely looking at a hardware problem.
    Narrowing the area down still further I re-installed the original 8Gb chips and the problem went away.
    Yep, that's more evidence that the problem is in your hardware.
    Application software cannot cause a lockup like that.  Only hardware, low level drivers and the OS can cause a lockup like that.
    In your case, it seems to be the hardware (RAM chips or motherboard).
    Unfortunately, software RAM tests are useless.  But you've got a test that stresses the RAM system more than those tests: it's called Photoshop.
    We have seen several reports recently of RAM problems in newer iMacs. There appears to be a problem with the RAM specification, testing, or the motherboards.  Unfortunately, we don't yet have enough details to determine the root cause of the issues.  But most people have fixed the problem by swapping out the RAM.

  • When using the gradient tool to move a gradient why does the do not symbol show up beside the cross that usually rotates it and how do I get rid of it?

    I've tried restarting the tool and the program and it did not work. Here is an example of the do not symbol:  Warning, stop and DO NOT symbol | PSDGraphics

    You have not provided any system info or details about your document structure, so nobody can know. their could simply be another element or a specific appearance setting preventing this or you have an issue with your input device. Similar behavior has been reported for some Wacom tablets for instance.

  • How do I turn off the gradient tool?

    Dumb question, but I made a gradient and now every rectangle I draw is a gradient.  I've tried several things, but I can't get it to just draw a single color rectangle.
    Also, I imported a 32-bit floating point tiff from Photoshop, which had been converted from a Kodak DPX in Graphics Converter, but Illustrator would only open it if it was 8-bit. I don't suppose there is any way to deal with 32-bit images in Illustrator.

    Try setting your fill option without anything selected to the required fill then it should draw all new stuff with the new fill
    In all things adobe i think... With nothing selected or txt box draw the things you choose become the default for everything you do.

  • How do I change the Gradient in the Artwork and Effect Text tool

    How do I change the colors used in the gradient under the Artwork and Effects Text Tool? It always comes green and blue and I dont know how to change it.

    Gradient usually picks up the foreground & background colors from the chips in the tool bar, but that is for the default gradients. Sounds like you have one of the pre-set gradients selected in the drop down list in the gradient options bar. Select the gradient tool, then look in the options bar at the top of the screen. The second item from the left, if I remember correctly, is a drop down list of various gradient possibilities. Select the top left gradient sample for the foreground to background gradient.

  • Gradient Tool difficulties with the mask and banner, CS4

    Hi everyone,
    I know this is quite basic, but I'm experiencing a mind block.
    I'm trying to make a banner image fade out to the left into a white background (which has text, this is the rest of the banner) losing as little as the image as possible, it has to be done with a mask as I don't want to edit the original image.
    I don't think feathering works
    At the moment I try this, I put a mask over the banner image, the mask is longer to the left than the banner image. But then when I try and apply the gradient tool to the mask it just slaps it on the image itself making it go all white.
    I've been using photoshop for a while now, just my brain isn't working properly today. Any help appreciated. Thanks

    Try this. First make sure your text is on a layer or background and the image that will be transparent is on another layer above the background with the text. If you already have a mask showing in the layer that will be transparent, just right click on it and choose Delete Layer mask. Then create a new one by clicking on the "Add Layer Mask" button at the bottom of the layer's palette (resting mouse on button shows the name). Press the g key on your keyboard to get the Gradient tool, and to make sure it is working as expected right click on its icon in the the tool options' bar that is at the top left under the main menu and choose Reset Tool. Then make sure that the foreground color swatch at the bottom of the Tools palette is black (to ensure that press d key and if necessary x to get that). Next hold Shift and drag from left edge of the image that will be transparent all the way to the right edge. Now you should have the fading transparency, for additional control while at that step press Crtl + L on your keyboard and drag the arrows of the Input levels there to adjust the gradient as you like.
    Hope this helps

  • Cannot access gradient tools other than the default option.

    I am using photoshop CS6 extended. I cannot access the alternative gradient tools and am wondering if the plug-in failed to download or if I have somehow disabled them in the preferences.

    Select the gradient tool, then click on the gradient chip at the top left of the screen to open the Gradient Editor, or click on the little arrow next to the same gradient color chip to access a palette other gradients. To make a new gradient, etc., click the tiny icon in the upper right of that palette to get a drop-down menu.
