LOST: Home page icon

How can an icon disappear? How do I restore the little house representing my home page that appears toward the top right corner? Thank you.
iBook Mac OS X (10.4.3) G4

DDDS,
Removal could have been due to an inadvertent keyboard combination. (Control + Click) on an address bar icon, for example, reveals a contextual menu which includes "Remove Item."
Safari>View>Customize Address Bar...>Drag your favorite item into the toolbar...(Home)

when I click my home page icon the tab that is open goes to my home page BUT another new tab opens. How do I stop the new tab from appearing?

It's easy to add extra tabs to your set of home pages. You can use the Options dialog to make sure there is only one. These articles point the way:
* [[Startup, home page and download settings]]
* [[How to set the home page]]
Because the space is short, you may want to select the whole home page URL (Ctrl+A) and paste it into a document or into a larger textbox like the one I'm typing in now. You're looking for a vertical bar (|) that is followed by a second URL.
If it's not part of your home page setting, the most likely cause for this change is a bad add-on that rode along with some free software.
I suggest starting here:
Open Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program. Click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.
Then, in Firefox, open the Add-ons page using either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible).
Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Does that shut down the extra tab?

• If I open a second window in Safari it doesn't have the home page icon nor does it have the back and forward arrows. Why not?

How do I get a second Safari page with the home page icon and back and to arrowsl?

Move to the desktop or rename the com.apple.Safari.plist
Found in your User/Library/Preferences/
Finder>Go>Go to Folder (copy and paste:)
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Quit and restart the browser. The default plist will be rebuilt. See if this sorts your problem.
If no you can always put back the original plist, no harm done.

• Need the new tab icon and need to move home page icon

Need what I had on previous versions of Firefox. Need new tab icon next to address bar, it is not under customize. Need to move home page icon to the same place. It is very annoying to have it on the right side the of web page, need to have it on the left side.

You can find the New Tab button showing as a '+' on the Tab bar.
You can open the Customize window and drag the New Tab button that shows as a plus sign (+) from the Tab bar on another toolbar and it will become a regular toolbar button like the New Tab button that you have in Firefox 3 versions.
If you can't find the New Tab button then click the "Restore Default Set" button in the Customize window.
If you want the New Tab button at the far right end of the Tab bar then place a flexible space to the left of it.

• How may I move home page icon?

I just installed new Firefox 4.0 to replace past version. The home page icon is now at the very right side of the page, far from all other dropodowns. and very inconvenient. Can it be moved to a left side location?

# Right-click on a toolbar and select Customize, this will open the customize toolbar dialog.
# With the customize toolbar dialog on display, you can drag and drop icons and place them where you want, then click on Done.

I see the home page icon on the right side of the page. How do I move it to the left side?

Right-click on a toolbar, select Customize. You can then drag and drop the Home icon to the right side of the toolbar. Click Done to complete the process.

• There is no home page icon that I can find. How can I get back to my home page after going to aol or drudge report??? I have beta 9

I have firefox 4.0 beta 9 and on previous versions there was always an icon to return to firefox home page. When I upgraded to beta 9 this icon was not there. What's up????

You should be able to use the OpenVPN Connect app running on your iPad to connect your iPad to the VPN directly. It is an official OpenVPN client for iOS devices.
In what way is it "not compatible"? Have you tried it? Tunnelblick is an OpenVPN client, so your school's VPN is using the OpenVPN protocol. That means any OpenVPN client should be able to access it. (It is possible, but unlikely, that your school uses encryption that is not available on the iPad, but that would be very unusual.)
Otherwise, a remote control app on your iPad would let you control your Mac at home. "Back to My Mac", for example, would allow you to control your Mac remotely. The tricky part of this is that usually a VPN is set up to send all Internet traffic via the VPN server, and I'm not sure how that would work with "Back to My Mac".

• Lost Home Page after upgrade.

Vista Home Edition OS
Firefox has been my default browser for years.
I have recently tried to disable Yahoo tool bar and in the process somehow lost my Firefox Home Page and the ability to log on to my page.
After previous Mozilla upgrades, I could sign in to my account and be at my home page.
Now I get the Google search, the Firefox challenge and restore Previous session, but link to sign-in.
The Yahoo Took Bar is still there and previous tech support remedies have failed.
I cannot find any reference to the Yahoo Tool Bar in the add-ons.

I have a similar problem, and have investigated possible solutions I could find, and nothing worked. Here is the situation:
--Event: Upgrading my wife's iPhone 4 from iOS 4.x to 5.1
--Problem: All contacts were lost. Nothing in SIM card, Texts, Searchlight, etc. Phone numbers were retained (e.g., in favorites)
Details...
--I did back up the phone before upgrading, but can only find later backups to restore from (i.e., backups made after the upgrade). I tried a restore, but nothing meaningful changed. I cannot figure out how to go back the backup before the upgrade. (I don't have Time Machine, somehting suggested in another post.)
--There is no Outlook or other application synchronized from which to recover contacts
--We both sign into the same Apple account
--I did NOT turn on any kind of iCloud sync (which I think would have synced my contacts with my wife's phone). All iCloud services are turned off, though the upgrade did set up an iCloud account, which I have since deleted (just in case).
Does anyone have any suggestions?

• I don't want a new tab to open up when I click my home page icon, can I change the settings?

When I click new tab my home page is there, this is now great...however when I click the homepage icon, a new tab opens with my homepage, I want the homepage to appear on the tab I am in and no. Pls help.

Are you using an add-on to replace the blank new tab with your home page? Perhaps this is controlled by a feature of the add-on?

• Can't rearrange home page icons onto second page

I can rearrange the icons on my two home pages on my new iPad but I can't seem to drag an icon from the first page to the second page. What am I doing wrong/

This happened to my ipad2 as well. Similar to you, i cant move my icons to the next page. I would usually do it this way, it is a not-so-user-friendly way, but it did solve my problem all the time.
You may try this.
1st, Press the icon you want to move for a few seconds until it wiggles
2nd, Drag the icon to the task bar at the bottom of the screen
3rd, Slide to the page you want the icon to be moved to.
Last, Press the icon that you just moved to the task bar n drag it back to the screen.

• Home page Icon

I am using a Tour 9630 BB. My question is how can I delete an icon the I do not want to use from my home page. I know that I can made it hide, but I would rather delete it and save memory. Is there way?? Thanks

What icons are you wanting to delete? Iconography is determined by the OS and themes and in some cases if you delete the program that the icon is linked to, you delete the icon. The downside is if you subsequently want the program back you have to reload a clean OS. The memory footprint for an icon is minimal. If you are speaking of the icons that are on occasion pushed to your device by your carrier they cannot be readily deleted. Hiding is actually the best bet.
I put all the unwanted icons in a created folder "unused" and hide them.

• Lost home screen icons after ios 6 upgrade

All home screen icons (except computer and setting) disappeared after upgrade to ios 6

FYI - AppleTV update was to 5.1 not 6.
Just having Computer and Settings is usually a sign that you're AppleTV doesn't have an internet connection.
Go into Settings>General>Network - does the device have an IP address, is it an address similar to other devices on you're network?
