Lost icons on launch pad

I have lost most of the icons on launch pad.  Anyone know how to restore them?

Ohh, sorry my mistake. I sometimes make up words in my head and mix sentences around. May I ask what is missing from your launchpad and what disappeared? Is it possible that you accidently put an icon over anothericon? Doing that can start a folder in your Launchpad. Also if you hold your click for a few seconds, the icons start skaking and allows you to delete icons. I am pretty sure to add applications to your Launchpad is drag it from the finder to the Launchpad logo on your dock. If you are missing those applications, I recommend reinstalling the ones your are missing. If its from the app store, reinstall it from the app store by going to the purchases tab and downloading the apps in there that you don't have anymore. If it is from the internet or disk, download however you downloaded it before. Also, if you have a Time Machine backup, I advise that you restore to the last time you can remember you haveing those qapps in your launchpad. If you don't use Time Machine, I highly advise you go and pick up an external hard drive that is time machine comaptible (ask a store employee for which ones work with time machine) and set up time machine so if this happens again, you just have to restore from your last backup and it will make the process much easier. So to sum up, if you have time machine, restore your mac to the last time you remember having those things in your Launchpad, if you don't use Time Machine, then reinstall everything you are missing manually and get a time machine compatible external hard drive from an electronics store and setup Time Machine. It is very easy to setup, only one or two questions and it's fully automated.

  • Why are there 2 iPhoto icons in launch pad

In launch pad, there are 2 iPhoto (v9.3.1) icons; in Finder Applications folder there is one iPhoto icon.  Both icons start in the same library and both appear identical v9.3.1.  Why does this happen, and what can I do to remove one of the iPhoto icons in launch pad?

LaunchPad is part of the OS and you're best asking that question here

  • How do you add icons to Launch Pad

I just installed Lion and want to add icons to the Launch Pad, removing them from the dock.  How do I do that?  And, will it work with icons of apps that are not purchased from the App Store?
    Cliff

I am back.  I have now sorted out my Launch Pad to be organized the way I want it. I have decluttered my Dock.  Very nice.
Now I want to add some of the remaining icons for apps that did not automatically show up in Launch Pad.  So, again, how do I do that?
    Thanks,
    Cliff

  • Duplicate Icons in launch Pad

In Launch Pad - on my iMac 24 - I have duplicate icons for Bluetooth File Share, Activity monitor, Airport utility and others. How do I get rid of the duplicates? They do not go to the trash.  This is not happening on my MacBookAir.

I had a look too and couldn't find anything so started a wider internet search and there is apparently a way of resetting the launchpad, which from reading is closely related to the Dock.
I have pasted the link below but cannot verify it is a safe workaround because I have not got the necessary understanding of Terminal to execute it...
    http://haiteq.com/2011/07/07/quick-tip-force-os-x-lion-to-reload-the-launchpads- contents/
I came to the page above through:

If anyone having the same problems as us knows what they are doing with Terminal and tries this please let me know how to do it. I tried typing a few things into terminal and just got nowhere.

  • Why are application icons on launch pad in duplicate form (2 of each)?

When I open up LaunchPad, a lot of the application icons appear in duplicate form (2 of each):  Address Book, App Store, Calculator, iCal, iChat, iDVD, etc.  What is causing this?

    See this article:

    Maybe it's aliases?

  • Launch pad has question mark in icon and won't launch

    Hello,
On my intel mac with lion the icon for launch pad has a question mark over it and wont launch. Also when I hit f4 it wont start launch pad. Any help would be appreciated.

Somehow you've managed to delete it.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • IPhoto icon changed to a question mark in my launch pad...

    Hi All,
I used to have an iPhoto icon in my launch pad in order to pull up my pictures/movies.  Where I used to have the "regular" iPhoto icon, I now have a question mark and when I click on it, nothing happens.  I tried to use finder to find my iPhoto library, but nothing came up.  Any advice?  Thanks, LN

It is incredible that your iPhoto application should have vanished completely. Try one more search with the Finder and ensore that it really searches everywhere:
Select "Computer" in the Finder's sidebar, or the system drive, if you only have one drive.
Enter iPhoto in the search field and press "+" to add a rule "kind is Application",
Can you post a screenshot please, of what you see in yur "Pictures" folder? Also select one of the thumbnails of your photos and use the command "File > Get info". What information can you see about your files?

  • I accidentally deleted launch pad icon, how can I reinstall it?

I accidentally deleted the launch pad icon from the bottom menu bar when I downloaded a game. How can I put it back in?

Go to Finder>Applications and then click on LaunchPad. It then should go to the Dock. The Dock is the row of App icons usually at the bottom of the screen.
Then right click on the LauchPad icon and go to Options and select Keep in Dock

  • Icons won't appear on launch pad terminal won't open

    Hi
I having a major problem with my Mac (it's a MacBook Pro 2012 i5 16gb) for a long  time I tried to open launch pad it only appears the name of the app not the icon, so I checked a few forums and mostly the solution was to run in the terminal a command:killer dock but when I tried to open the terminal it won't open it just like for a minute or so and then closed the app again, this is pretty annoying mainly beccause I don't know what cause this
Any help will be appreciate it
Ps. There's any software that can solve the pop up of certain web pages? I don't know if this is the cause of a Trojan I'm pretty scared, all this pop up its about advertisement and stuff like that
    Than you very much

    Open the Terminal
Copy this and paste it inside the terminal window and hit enter.
    rm ~/Library/Application\ Support/Dock/*.db ; killall Dock
The command will rebuild the icon cache for launchpad. Sometimes, it happens because of cleaning the system cache files using 3rd party cleaning softwares.
Hope this would solve your problem.

  • Launch Pad Icons appear small on my MacBook Air

How do I change the size of my icons in the Launch Pad. My icons appear a lot smaller then the icons I've seen on the new MacBook Airs at the Apple stores.

There's not a setting to change the size, they should autosize for an 8 x 5 matrix that fills the screen.

  • Launch pad - duplicate icon apps

When I open the launch pad, there are duplicate apps (the font book, DVD player, etc)  they are all the ones that came with the software.  How do I get rid of the duplicates?  I tried selecting one until it was "shaking", but no X show up to delete it.

The launchpad displays an icon for each app or alias it finds anywhere on the system.  You need to find the app/alias duplicates and delete them--simply putting them in the trash doesn't work for launchpad finds them there, too.
After they are trashed and the trash emptied you can open launch pad and when clicking on the icon representing the deleted app/app alias it will show a question mark.  Drag it to the trash and it is gone.

  • WHY DO MY ICONS OVERLAP IN FINDER, LAUNCH PAD, AND OTHERS MAKING IT UNREADABLE?

Why do my icons overlap in finder, launch pad, and others.  This makes it unreadable.

This is an iPad forum.  iPad does not support Finder or Launch Pad.

  • HT5548 I upgraded one of my programs and now the old and new both appear on launch pad, and I can't delete the old one.  Is there a way I can do that?

I upgraded one of my programs and now the icons for both old and new appear on the launch pad.  I don't need or want the old version to display, as it's been imported into the new one.  I can't seem to figure out how to edit it off the launch pad.

    Hi there,
More then likely, the old version was installed independently from the App Store. The article below goes over the process for removing these application.
OS X Lion: Install, update, and uninstall apps
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ph4524
To uninstall other apps, drag the app to the Trash (the Trash is located at the end of the Dock), and then choose Finder > Empty Trash. If you change your mind, before emptying the Trash, select the app in the Trash, and then choose File > Put Back.Warning: When you empty the Trash, the app is permanently removed from your computer. If you have any files that you created with the app, you may not be able to open them.
    Hope that helps,
    Griff W.

  • Why do some Apps(programs) appear in my dock, but not in my launch pad?

I recently downloaded Open Office and Adobe Photo Shop 12 .  Photo shop appears in both my dock and launch pad.  However Appace Open Office just appears in my dock, but not my launch pad, and also the open office little disk or cd reader icon (white 3d rectangle with image of black slot in front) appears on the right side of my screen.  I can't eject it because I get a popup that says it is being used by "Open Office" and I have to quit the application to eject it.  My question is if I quit the application using "Command" Q and then eject "Open Office" will I loose open office and have to downlad it again?
I think I answere my question.
I clicked on the Open Office Icon in my dock, had it go to "Finder" then ejected the "Open Office" disck reader icon and it went away from my screen.
I then went to "Finder" and opened it up and Lo and Behold "Open Office" disappeared from there too. Boy that sure is crappy.
    So I downloaded it again.
Is there anyway to clean up the desktop so I don't have those silly images hanging around?

There have always, well for the past few years, written installers that just create a mess.  All installed applications should appear in Finder, Applications.  Not all of those will appear in Launchpad.  When you encounter one that does not appear in the correct way, all you can do is manually move things around so it is consistent with the way apps should work.

  • I installed Mackeeper and my launch pad disappeared. How do I recover it?

I installed Mackeeper and my launch pad disappeared. How do I recover it?

Remove "MacKeeper" as follows. First, back up all data.
"MacKeeper" has only one useful feature: it deletes itself.
Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions.
IMPORTANT: "MacKeeper" has what the developer calls an “encryption” feature. In my tests, I didn't try to verify what this feature really does. If you used it to “encrypt” any of your files, “decrypt” them before you uninstall, or (preferably) restore the files from backups made before they were “encrypted.” As the developer is not trustworthy, you should assume that the "decrypted" files are corrupt unless proven otherwise.
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A. The "MacKeeper" application is in the folder that opens. Quit it if it's running, then drag it to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your login password. Click the Uninstall MacKeeper button in the dialog that appears. All the functional components of the software will be deleted. Reboot.
Do not empty the Trash after dragging the MacKeeper application to it. Let the application delete itself.
Do not try to uninstall by dragging the MacKeeper icon in the Dock or the LaunchPad to the Trash.
Here are some general suggestions. If you want your computer to be usable, don't install crapware, such as “themes,” "haxies," “add-ons,” “toolbars,” “enhancers," “optimizers,” “accelerators,” "boosters," “extenders,” “cleaners,” "doctors," "tune-ups," “defragmenters,” “firewalls,” "barriers," “guardians,” “defenders,” “protectors,” most “plugins,” commercial "virus scanners,” "disk tools," or "utilities." With very few exceptions, this stuff is useless, or worse than useless.
The more actively promoted the product, the more likely it is to be garbage. The most extreme example is the “MacKeeper” scam.
The only software you should install is that which directly enables you to do the things you use a computer for — such as creating, communicating, and playing — and does not modify the way other software works. Never install any third-party software unless you know how to uninstall it.
