Lost idvd

After a computer crash, the apple store installed leopard and ilife 08. Everything was fine but I wanted imovie 6. The download of 6.0.4 couldn't be installed because ilife 08 wasn't installed with the discs. So I used my original ilfe 06 disc. Imovie 6 successfully installed but I lost imovie 8 and more importantly now when I click on the idvd icon I get the message that it unexpectedly closed. I've checked the user idvd application support folder and it's empty. The hard drive idvd support folder has themes in it, 4,5,6,7. Get info says it's idvd 8(7). I don't care whether I get idvd 6 or 8 I'll be happy with either one. When I installed imovie 6 the computer said idvd 6 successfully installed too but that's not the case. Any suggestions?

First, perform these basic trouble-shooting remedies before trying to do any other installs.
1. Quit iDVD and delete your iDVD preferences. To do this, go to your username> library> preferences> com.apple.idvd.plist. Delete this file. Then reopen iDVD; it will create a new preference file with all of the default settings.
2. Do a verify and repair of permissions using Disk Utility.
Is iLife 08 on your system disks? If so, then you can do a reinstall of iLife 08 by following Old Toad's directions from this link: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8517353&#8517353.
This should bring back the applications that have been giving you trouble.
I hope this helps.

  • I've lost iDVD help!

    Hi,
I'm new to Macs and have recently upgraded to iLife 08 on my iMac. iDVD will now not launch at all. I tried reinstalling it and even tried to install the 06 version back with my install discs, all to no avail. I have found the following log and wondered if anyone could help me fix it.

  • Lost idvd themes

I have just upgraded to Tiger from Panther (where I used IDVD 5.0) and subsequently upgraded IDVD to version 5.0.1. I now only have access to 15 IDVD 5 themes as opposed to a range of version 4.0 themes when using IDVD 5.0 with Panther. Is there a quick way to download the 4.0 themes so I can use them within version 5.0.1 ?

    Hi Jason,
    Welcome to the Discussion forum.
See this Apple KB article: iDVD 5: Previous themes are missing.

  • IDVD burning software missing from my applications

Help! How can I get IDVD reinstalled on my G4 Quicksilver 933 MHZ with a super drive? I had a repair done to it and the tech erased the hard disk and started over and somehow lost IDVD. I had updated it to OS X.3.9, but now I want to burn a DVD and IDVD is not installed. I don't know how to get it off the original disks that came with the computer. Can anyone give me some directions? It is an older version but I don't want to buy a new copy of ILife when the burning software obviously came with the computer.
Mac G4 Quicksilver   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Have Super Drive and no IDVD

Sue in IDVD 5 sent me a link to directions from an Apple tech article. It worked. I used the second of the two sets of directions since I had five "software restore" CDs. I made a folder on the desktop, copied each disk image in the configurations folder of each CD, and had to tweak the directions a bit. I am running Panther, so there is no "disk copy" but I clicked on the first disk image and it eventually opened and voila it had all the application software icons, I Photo, I Movie, etc. I copied the IDVD to the applications folder of the hard drive, so that it can update automatically.
I'm sure that others may have the same situation. The Apple directions actually said not to do this if you now have a newer OS than the original disks, but it never touches the operating system since you use only the software restore CDs. However, it took almost an hour for the whole operation. But, it worked, so it may work for someone else who doesn't want to buy another application.

  • Is IDVD on the ILife disc?

I've lost IDVD on my computer.  Have been told I need my original disc to reinstall.  Can not locate my original disc that came with the computer, it's in storage, is IDVD on the ILIFE disc?

If it is an original iLife install DVD, then yes.

  • Has anyone used Wondershare DVD burning software on Mountain Lion please?

Have uopgraded to Mountain Lion and therefore lost iDVD.  Is Wondershare DVD burning software linked to iMovie effective please?

Yes we had this issue too over a year ago and decided to research what would be the best alternate. We came up with Wondershare, see here http://www.burnworld.net/mac/wondershare-video-converter-ultimate-review.html

  • No Main Menu

I have a video iPod. When I connect it to iTunes, you usually get the main menu screen- correct? By main menu, I mean the screen where it gives you options like synching you iPod to the library, and there are tabs at the top like videos, photos, etc. When I try going to the main menu, it won't let me. It just automatically go to the songs on the iPod. When I try clicking the black iPod button to the side of my iPod's name under devices, nothing happens.

Thanks for the tip but I am having a difficult time following this. I succeeded one time (but can't remember how I did it) in getting a short movie of my own to play, with sound, in the background, with icons or titles for the movies I am burning to show up on top of this movie of mine playing in the background.
I just tried following the Autostart mini-tutorial but got lost where it says "drag movie as well on to this movie - not in drop zone." It seems no matter where I try to drop it it becomes a added movie. When I went on to page 2 of the tutorial I really got lost.
iDVD Help says: "Note: If you drag your own movie to a motion menu background, the outro is automatically removed. To customize the background and keep the outro, use a still image in the menu background instead of a movie." But where is the "motion menu background?"
    Help? Thanks.

  • IDVD 704 issues: chapters, save-as crashes, theme elements getting "lost"

I'm using iDVD 7.0.4 on a mid-2010 13" MBP with 6Gb of RAM, running OSX 10.6.5 . I created a new project, and applied an old theme I created in iDVD 5 or 6. The theme is basically empty, apart from a single backdrop image and a few font specifications. (I like things simple...)
I then imported a QT movie created with Final Cut Express HD 3.5.1 from 16:9 (anamorphic) PAL DV material. The movie contains about 9 chapter markers and was corrected back from 720x576 to 1024x576 in QuickTime Player 7.
The movie imported correctly, but chapter titles with accented characters were lost (issue 1)
Issue 2: Doing a Save-As of an open project provokes a crash - immediately if I use the keyboard shortcut, delayed if I use the menu. Yet it has worked a single time.
Issue 3: After finalising the project, I decided to do a final edit on the chapter title text colour. Impossible to consolidate that to disk: if I save a project changed in this manner, it will no longer open correctly. iDVD will complain about missing theme elements, and force the default theme on me.
I tried rebooting, but that didn't resolve issues 2 & 3 (didn't check issue 1 but that one seems a true bug or omission).
Any ideas? A quick peek on here didn't serve any similar stories, so am I the only one experiencing this?

  • Regernerating lost references with iDVD - Package Content

    Hello all!
    The situation:
I have some old iDVD projects which I would like to overwork a little bit. Meanwhile I am on iDVD'08 and some of the referenced images have sligtly moved from there original location. When iDVD starts up with such an obsolete project I have the occasion to search for the lost images in a convenient way.
    How it was:
With former iDVD versions, I could specify a path from where iDVD starts to search. The search was rather fast and efficient, as I colud specify a path inside the "iPhoto Library"
    How it is now/my question:
with iPhoto '08 its library turned into a package. I am not able to open the package (View packages content) using the small file browsing dialog box provided by iDVD in the mentioned serach dialog. Therefor all I can specify now, is the entire "iPhoto Library" as a starting point for the lost images. The search takes now forever as I have several thousands pics in my Library.
Has anybody an idea how I can speed this up? Is there e.g. a way to permamently open the package and move back to the regular file structure for iPhoto?
Or can I extend the functionality of the limited file browsing box and have it able to dive into a package?
Thx for any hints on that!

I just got a old iDVD project messed up by this poor implementation.
I guess nobody forced you to upgrade
Old applications/projects/etc don't remain compatable with new operating systems/applications/etc forever. I'm not an iPhoto user (for many reasons), but the non-destructive manner in which it saves modified versions with the same name has always bothered me. Couple this with the tendency of some digital cameras to reset the numbering system every time a card is erased or the batteries are changed and you get the kind of multiple file name confusion you are experiencing.
    Does anybody has an idea?
Unfortunately, the best advice I can give you is to start over with a completely new project in iDVD '08.

  • Lost iMovie, iPhoto and iDVD when hard drive crashed.

I owned my iMac since 2007 and my first OS was 10.4.  As far back then, my iMac came with iMovie, iPhoto and iDVD already installed.  Since 2011, I had OS 10.6 on my iMac.  Two weekends ago, my hard drive crashed and lost many applications, including iMovie, iPhoto and iDVD.  I still had a copy of 10.6 on a disc and reinstalled it and even updated it to the version I had before my HD crashed.  I notice that iMovie, iPhoto and iDVD are not in my computer anymore.
I visited the download section on the Apple website and have found versions of iMovie, iPhoto and iDVD that would be compatable with OS 10.6.8, but for some reason I can't install them.  I was able to install iPhoto, but can't open it.  I can't even install iDVD.  I haven't tried to install iMovie.
Is there any way I can install these applications I lost?  I realize purchasing a new copy of iLife is one option, but the version that is out now is not compatable with OS 10.6.8.

These are not applications. They are updaters for the applications.
You will have got a disk with your Mac that had the applications on it. You can reinstall from that.

Ask in the iDVD forum on what's the best way out of iPhoto and into iDVD.  The resident expert there, Bengt Wärleby, can give you the best option.

    Hi
If You lost it - You need to get a new one. There are no free or legal downloads AT ALL.
    • Second handed from e-bay
    • See if Amazon - got any boxed iLife'11 DVDs left (cheque that iDVD is included)

  • Sound is lost when exporting or sending to iDVD

My project has sound in iMovie (8), but when I (a) export to Quicktime, or (b) send to iDVD, the sound is lost. I presume that some box hasn't been checked, but I've no idea what it can be

Well, I did this: I made a copy of the project, and then exported to Quicktime, and the sound was there! Then I sent the duplicated project to iDVD, and the sound was there as well!
This is not really satisfying, because I didn't discover what the original problem was - unless it's just a 'feature' of iMovie 09 that some projects need to be duplicated in this way.
(By the way, I've read that there are three check boxes in Timeline view (and that they all need to be checked), but I've no idea where they are.)

  • Rotation Lost by iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD

I have never had any problems with iPhoto until I recently upgraded to iLife suite and iPhoto 5.
My specific problem is photographs need to be rotated depending on how the picture was taken (landscape or portrait). I'll go through a roll in the thumbnail mode, rotating to the proper postitions. Then when I try to edit a rotated picture, the edit mode does not recognize the rotation that has already taken place, and shows the picture in its original position.
What is WORSE, in doing a silde show in iMovie or iDVD, the thumbnails are correct, but when importing the pic into iMovie, the picture is in it original orientation (not rotated!!!)
Lastly, this only takes place with pictures I have imported with iPhoto 5. Any photos I imported in the old version of iPhoto all work properly with iMovie & iDVD and the thumnails match the orientation in the work.

    Hi Fooch,
have you upgraded to the latest version of iPhoto through software update.
If you have the latest version, have you rebuilt the iPhoto Library after you did that?
    Try this:
Before doing a rebuild make sure iPhoto's trash bin is emptied. You can do this by control clicking on the trash bin, or from the menu bar under iPhoto.
    Close iPhoto
    Duplicate the iPhoto Library folder
Drag the duplicate to the desktop (hopefully you have enough room on your hard drive for the duplicate.)
Launch iPhoto holding down the Command and Option keys until you see the rebuild options screen.
Choose the first three options. If you were missing photos in your library, also choose the last option. Be advised that you will get a roll of orphaned photos and it might be quite huge. Most of them will already be in your iPhoto library, but use caution when deleting anything from this roll until you are sure the photos are still in your library in another place. It might be a good idea to share/export this roll of photos just in case you need to import them again.
Back to the rebuild, depending on the size of your library it might take some time. When it is done, hopefully your photos will be there.
You might see some unexpected results as I did when I did a rebuild. Photos had been moved to wrong dates, video clips had lost their duration info and some were even orphaned from the jpg pointer file. It took me some time to straighten it out again.
This is the reason to make a duplicate before you rebuild, in case you do not like the result. If you don't like the result, close iPhoto, then delete the rebuilt library and drag the duplicate back into the Pictures folder making sure the name is iPhoto Library. Launch iPhoto and it should open the library in the Pictures folder.
iPhoto 4 or later: Rebuilding the iPhoto Library
