Lost inbox mails

Have just changed isp to move from dial up to adsl. After changing mail settings I then deleted my previous isp mail account. This seems to have resulted in me losing all the mail in my inbox (though other mailboxes are fine). Can I recover the lost mail?
Thanks for any help.

Hello David.
Before deleting an email account in Mail, the following warning message is provided:
Are you sure you want to remove the account “XXXXXXXXX”?
This will erase all mailboxes for this account, but will not affect any messages stored on your mail server.
This is usually ignored or not completely understood but is based on the Mail.app filing structure.
Many other email clients utilize a single large database file which is not dependent on individual account and associated mailbox filing.
When creating an account in Mail, an account named folder (named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account) is created in the Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail using the Finder. For POP type accounts, the following mailbox (mbox) files are created within the account named folder when the function is used by the account: INBOX.mbox, Drafts.mbox, Sent Messages.mbox, Deleted Messages.mbox and Junk.mbox (when Junk mail is set to automatic). The mbox files within the account named folder represent the account named mailboxes under In, Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk (when Junk mail is set to automatic) in the Mail.app mailboxes drawer.
When deleting an account in Mail, the account named folder at Home > Library > Mail is deleted at that time and as the warning message indicates, the associated account mailboxes within the account named folder are also deleted. You must select OK after the warning message appears.
It would be preferable for the account named folder to be moved to the hard drive Trash can which requires an additional step to delete but this is not what occurs.
Unless you have a data recovery application pre-installed on the hard drive before data is deleted, your options are not very promising.
To have any hope of recovering your data, you need to immediately stop using your system and then purchase a copy of a recovery tool such as Tech Tool Pro (Micromat) or Data Rescue (Prosoft Engineering), both of which have data recovery tools. I've not used Data Rescue, but I've seen reports that it recovers files that the others cannot, so it might be your best hope. The chances generally aren't really good even so, but short of sending your drive to a data recovery service (expensive), such utilities are your only hope.
Note that the more you use your system before you attempt recovery, the more likely it is that the system will overwrite the sections of the drive where the data you want to recover is stored, rendering it unrecoverable by any means. You should therefore stop using the system completely until you get and try to use one of the file recovery tools.
This also emphasizes the importance of maintaining a regular backup of the Mail folder and other important data.

  • Lost E-Mail Messages

I just lost 13,000 Sent mail and 3,000 Inbox messages. I just started a .Mac account and Sync-ed my Mail, but that wasn't supposed to affect the e-mail messages themselves, just Bookmarks, Accounts, and Rules, etc.
Anyone know what might have happened and how I can get that mail back? Thanks.
    Bob

    You’re welcome.
in ~/Library/Mail, found only one folder--labeled with the @ sign.
I double-clicked on it and received an error message--"The Internet
location file (number here) cannot be opened because it is damaged."
I have no idea what are you talking about here.
When I sync-ed the accounts for the first time, my main Earthlink
mail account was duplicated. I deleted one copy
Ouch! This is where you lost your mail then. For each account, Mail creates a folder within ~/Library/Mail/ whose name starts with the account type (POP, IMAP, Mac), followed by the username and the incoming mail server. Having two accounts sharing the same account folder in Mail is calling for trouble. Amongst other problems, deleting one of the accounts would cause the (shared) account folder to be deleted as well, and all your mail stored there to be lost. It’s not that you had two copies of the same messages and deleted one of them. It’s that you were seeing the same messages twice, and lost them all when you deleted one of the accounts.
I'm not sure the FileSalvage tool will help, since not using the
    computer is not an option.
The more you use the computer, the more likely it is that the deleted files may be overwritten, but since Mail 2.x stores each message in a separate *.emlx file, there is always the possibility that you can salvage some of those messages. If you don’t have a backup, that’s your only option, so you may want to try it anyway.

  • My Mac close the mail application and I lose all my inbox mails

I lose all my inbox mails and my others pop accounts configuration, the only I have is the folders I create, do you know if I can get back my info???
    thanks for any help.

What’s the capacity and space available on your startup disk? Take a look at the comments about disk space in the following article, in case they apply to you:
Problems from insufficient RAM and free hard disk space
Even if there is enough space available on the startup disk, for some reason that remains a mystery to me, Mail sometimes “thinks” it must discard the current ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist preferences file and create a new one. As a result, all your non-Mac account settings (but not the messages themselves), which are stored in that file, are lost.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what’s it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, and making sure that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), quit Mail if it’s running, and make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, just in case something else goes wrong while trying to solve the problem. This is where all your mail is stored.
    You have three options now:
    (1) Restore com.apple.mail.plist from a backup if you have one. Mail shouldn’t be running while you do this.
    (2) Set up your non-Mac accounts in Mail again. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don’t. Just enter the account information and Mail will automagically rediscover the data in ~/Library/Mail/ when done. You’ll also have to re-configure most of your settings in Mail > Preferences. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled.
    (3) Mail may have renamed the old preferences file to com.apple.mail.plist.saved. If that’s the case, you may try moving the new com.apple.mail.plist out of ~/Library/Preferences/ (e.g. to the Desktop) and rename the old com.apple.mail.plist.saved back to com.apple.mail.plist. Again, be sure Mail isn’t running while doing this. Since Mail decided to discard it, I would expect this file to be corrupt (I don’t understand why would Mail discard it and create a new one otherwise), but apparently that often is not the case and the settings can indeed be restored by just renaming the file.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

I downloaded a word file from an inbox mail (the mail app) onto my iPad, where is this file stored? How can I delete it if it takes up space in my iPad? Any ideas??

Did you ever figure out what happened?
I had the same experience as you did, but in my case it was a big fat pdf that Mail insisted I had to download before I could view it. As happened with you, I saw the file actually downloading, and after a time I was able to view the pdf. It's been my assumption that the pdf is still somewhere on my iPad, but I have no idea where, nor how to delete it if it is still there.
    Thanks.

  • I have lost my mail and the bullet on bottom of page.  How do I restore?

I have a Macbook Pro and I have done something that has lost my mail.  I have tried going to the mail account but I cannot figure out what I have done.  Also I have lost the rocket that usually appears at the bottom of my window. I think it may be something I have done but not sure what it was.

What  Mac OS X version are you using?
Does the Mail window open? If so, please post a screenshot of the mail window as you see it now. Use command-shift-4 and drag across to take the screenshot, and the camera Icon on the forums to include it in a post.

    inbox mail not deleting?

I figured out the problem, but not sure why it's happening. It seems that gmail will not remove messages from the inbox that are deleted from Apple Mail until I've manually gone into Trash in Apple Mail. I guess it used to sync all mailboxes before. Not sure what to do to fix this.

  • Where can I find the thunderbird inbox mails on my MAC ?

If you right click on a folder and select Properties, the General information tab shows the path to the folder as "Location".

    Srinivas,
    1) Is the problem only with the message being sent through custom code using SO_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1? What happens if you send a message using SAPOffice?
    2) Are the patch levels of the GUI same on both machines? Are you sure both PCs are configured exactly the same? Especially wrt to Windows & IE patches. I vaguely remember there were some issues a while ago with some IE patches. Normally in most client environments the desktops upgrades are controlled centrally and users do not have admin rights. Make sure the user has not done upgrades/installs on the PC in question. If that were the case the PC may needs to be reimaged.
BTW - What version  are you on R/3 and SAPGUI?

An error occurred while trying to save the icloud account is the message I get.  I've lost my mail, can't connect to the cloud, and can't backup.  Help!

This happened yesterday afternoon.  My iPhone 5 and iMac are both working properly.  When I go to settings, icloud, it takes much longer than usual to open and then I get the error message.  I've tried rebooting but that didn't help.

  • I have lost the mail icon....

I have lost the mail icon, and have downloaded the fix from apple but the icon is still not visible and I can't find it on my pc, and I therefore cannot access or send any mail from my macbook pro.Any suggestions to get the icon and mail back onto my pc?

Many thanks for all your assistance.  I have downloaded the link you gave, but I have also used the install disks for the pc, and although the icon now appears in the Application folder, it still gives me the error message "You have Mail version 4.2 (1078/1084). It can’t be used on Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 (Build 10K549). "   and does not open the mail.
Having downloaded the link and also installed from the disks that came with my pc, and restarted the pc a few times, I still cannot open the mail.
    Any ideas?
