Lost Installation CD for WRT54G version 5

Hi,
I have been using Linksys wireless router WRT54G V 5. I decided to change Internet service provider last week. It used to be starhub maxonline (cable modem) now I changed plan and use singtel broadband( ADSL modem)
My way of connection is this. From cable modem to wireless router. And Wireless Router direct out to a PC via ethernet cable. And I have a laptop in another room which is on the internet wireless.  In short, 2 terminal. One direct terminal and One wireless terminal.
When I disconnect the old modem(Cable) from the router and connect with the new modem(ADSL),  it is not working.  Even the direct terminal is not working.
Why is this so? There is nothing wrong with the ADSL modem as I plug it in directly, it is working.
I believe I need the installation CD? If so, where can I download this? I have lost it.
Please reply to my message. Thanks alot
Can reply through my email at [email protected] or reply here too.
Thanks!

Well, not quite. But you have posted the bit of information which reveals a little bit about the modem: your modem is not a simple modem but also a router. It runs on 192.168.1.254 and has a DHCP server. Now your Linksys router uses the same IP address subnet 192.168.1.* for its own LAN. A router which is connected to the identical subnet on the internet/WAN side and the LAN side cannot work because it cannot route. It never knows where to send a packet for 192.168.1.*.
O.K. The quick solution is: wire a computer to a numbered LAN port of the router. Do not connect the modem to the router. Open http://192.168.1.1/ no username required, default password is "admin". On the setup tab change the LAN IP address of the router from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1. Save the settings. The router will reboot and the computer will loose the connection. That's O.K.
Wire the internet port of the Linksys to the modem. Reboot the computer. The computer should now have an IP address like 192.168.2.100 in ipconfig. You can open the router configuration at http://192.168.2.1/
Internet should work now.
What you did then, you have chained two routers. The Linksys LAN uses 192.168.2.*. The modem/router LAN uses 192.168.1.*.
There are certain disadvantages of this setup. It may slow the connection down a little as everything goes an additional hop. You cannot use some functions on the Linksys like DDNS as those require a direct connection of the Linksys to the internet (which is not the case, the modem/router has the internet connection and shares it with the Linksys). Other things like port forwarding (for online games or similar) get more complicated because you have two routers in chain on which you have to configure the port forwarding.
I would rather recommend either of these two options:
1. Put the modem/router into "bridge" mode. In bridge mode you turn off the whole router part. Now the Linksys is able to access your ISP directly. You'll probably have to configure your Linksys for PPPoE (you can currently see what you need in the modem/router) with username and password.
2. Set up the WRT as access point only. Then the modem/router is your internet gateway router. All internet functions have to be configured on the modem/router only. To set up the WRT as access point see here.
And: don't forget to secure your router! see here.

  • Help! Lost Installation CD for PD1030.

Help! Lost Installation CD for Creative WebcamPro PD1030. Can someone help me to get a replacement CD ? Thanks

Unfortunately, there is no one ‘Silver Bullet’ answer for this issue. Many things can contribute to the problem.
Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.
Other USB connected peripherals may be the cause as well. Try removing all connected USB items and attaching the iPod. If you have a USB keyboard, it may be worth a try using the adapter to convert it to non-USB. If the iPod connects, continue plugging things back in until you have the problem return. You may have then isolated the issue. Sometimes it could be a printer, camera, Flash Card reader, or other attached device causing a conflict.
If your iPod shows up in Explorer under 'my computer' try changing the drive letter: Click on Start=>Control Panel=>Admin Tools=>Computer Management=>Disk Management. Right-Click on the iPod and select “change drive letter”. Choose something further along in the alphabet that is unused. Usually, “M”, “N”, “O”, or something similar.
If that doesn't work, Put Your iPod into Disk Mode then plug it in and you should be able to Restore the iPod
Also try this (and the other suggestions above) from any other USB port you may have on the PC. Sometimes switching USB ports can make all the difference.
    Also See:
Your Windows PC doesn't recognize iPod
iPod does not appear in iTunes or on the desktop
iPod appears in Windows Explorer but does not appear in iTunes</A

  • Lost installation disc for Wireless-G WRT54GC

    Hi there,
Apparently I lost my installation disk for my Wireless-G WRT54GC router and I checked out the downloads section to see if the contents of the installation disc were offered and apparently it wasn't. I'm planning to reformat my computer and might need the software to set it up and I was wondering if there's an available download link for it.
    thanks a lot.

You can use the EasyLink Connect software, at Linksys.com > Support > Technical Support > EasyLink Home.

I am a newbee, so please help.
When I download the firmware from this site it says the newest is 1.01.1??
But when I want to forward a port it says firmware prior to 1.32 won't work.
What new firmwire do I need and where can I download it?
By the way, will it also work on a WRT54G version 5.0??
    Best regards Xaykev

hi , the firmware version 1.01.1 , will work with both the wrt54g v5 and the wrt54g v5.1
try this and then go ahead with the port forwarding.

  • LOST installation CD For Sony Handycam DCR HC42

    Hello Everyone,
Sony won't let you download the installation CD!!! You have to buy it for $70!!! And, all the freeware available is for Windows. I was wondering if you guys had any aolutions b/c my computer isn't recognizing the handycam!
    Thanks

    Hotinthedesert,
How are you connecting the camera to your computer? If you're using the USB cable that came with the camera, that's your problem.
You need a 4-6 pin FireWire cable (Sony calls FireWire iLink). Any store that sells computer accessories should have them. No need to buy a Sony branded cable.
You don't need any drivers or any of the software that Sony has to offer.

  • Lost installation disks for Macbook Pro OS X 10.6.8 (2.3GHz Intel Core i7 SSD

    Hi there
I've recently moved to Berlin and of course left my installation disks in my home country. I have a corrupt HD and need to do some disk repair.
What are my options? I do not have Apple Care, and there is no Apple Store in Berlin (weirdly).
    Thanks in advance!

They won't have replacement discs, but they may have a copy of Snow Leopard they can install on your computer. If they don't then you would have to purchase one from Apple directly:
If you need to purchase Snow Leopard you can still purchase a copy from Apple's online store's telesales agents.[1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753) or Customer Service and Sales Support at 1-800-676-2775.] Ask for a Sales Representative.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:
    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
    Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.

  • Lost installation disc for PowerBook G4

I've inherited a PowerBook G4 operating OS X but whilst I have the deceased's log-in name, I don't have the password or installation disk to reset the password. Is there any way I can get to use the machine?

Here's one method to reset the password without the install disc:
    1. boot computer and hold the "apple/command" key and the "s" key.
    2. wait for terminal show
    3. release keys
    4. type without the quotes: "/sbin/mount -uaw"
    5. press enter
    6. type without the quotes: "rm /var/db/.applesetupdone
    7. press enter
    8. type without the quotes: "reboot"
    9. press enter
This will let you create a new admin account when you reboot your computer.
Also, without the discs, look at Mac OS X Tip - No Password, No Root, No CD? No Problem.
    http://www.macobserver.com/tip/2003/06/16.1.shtml
Here is another way to get around not knowing the admin password on Macs.
To reset your OS X password without an OS X CD you need to enter terminal and create a new admin account:
       1. Reboot
       2. Hold apple + s down after you hear the chime.
       3. When you get text prompt enter in these terminal commands to create a brand new admin account (hitting return after each line):
              * mount -uw /
              * rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
              * shutdown -h now
       4. After rebooting you should have a brand new admin account. When you login as the new admin you can simply delete the old one and you’re good to go again!
     Cheers, Tom

  • Lost installation disc for OS 10.4 (Tiger). Can I get a replacement?

Should I try to replace this disc (how?)...or is it better to purchase Leopard and upgrade. I have old AppleWorks documents and do not know if they will run on Leopard.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I can confirm that Appleworks 6.2.9 works reliably with Leopard, but doesn't come with Leopard. Also the Leopard installer disc does not include any portion of iLife except iTunes and does not include any of the games that shipped with your Mac except Chess, and does not include the hardware test that shipped with your Mac. For those reasons, I'd definitely consider asking AppleCare for the original installer discs. Also none of those applications come with Tiger retail either except Chess.
