Lost Internet sharing after sleep

I share my mac mini´s internet conection (ethernet) to other computer (ibook) using Airport.I do set a password for it using WEP. It all work fine. But if I put the mac mini to sleep and then wake it up, the shared internet stops working. If I try to connect from the Ibook it says that the password is incorrect. If I set up the connection without a password it would work fine even after a sleep time. So something gets corrupt with the WEP password after the mac minis wakes up, I guess...
My second problem after wake up my mac mini is that my USB keyboard(non apple) get corrupt with some keys. So I have to unplug it and plug it again and then will work fine again.
Those two problems start just after I did a "security update" with the Apple software update.
Thanks.
Damião.

I have the same problem.
Did anyone find a solution for this?
I have tried the solution described in,

and,

but none of them worked.
Thanks.

  • Lost internet connection after sleep

When waking from sleep my internet connection is lost and I have to click the airport icon and reselect my network to reconnect. I dont have this problem with my MacBook, it reconnects automatically when when waking. Is there a way to set up the iMac (running 10.6.6) so that it reconnects to my my network automatically when it wakes?

    Hi Rick,
I am having the same problem of the airport network not coming up automatically without pressing the network manually in the signal bar. I checked the system preference checks as you explained and still have the problem. Any other suggestions.

  • I've lost internet connection after a power outage; how do I restore?

I've lost internet connection after a power outage; how do I restore?

Check with your internet provider for help.  Your modem or router could have been damaged if they did not come on after the outage.  If your modem and router look OK all you should have to do is restart your iMac.

  • Loosing Internet Sharing After Shutdown

Is it normal for internet sharing to be off each time I shut down my iMac? I have to re-click the sharing option each day. It seems to wake up from sleep ok but I loose the connection when I shut down.

Since May 10, internet sharing has remained on after shutdown. As of today the problem is back. When I restart/shutdown I have to turn internet sharing on. Any thoughts out there?

  • Internet sharing while sleeping?

Hmm, I just bought the new macbook pro and am using internet sharing.  I have only an ethernet so I need it for the iPod Touch.  Something that I'm surprised by is that the signal remains if I allow the computer to go to sleep.  Surprised but no so much I guess.  What really surprised me is that I closed the computer and the internet sharing continues.
Is this the normal function?  It's ok by me but I just want to make sure the computer is not remaining on when I close it.
    Thanks!

The Mac you have got uses Lion. Sharing has got some problems with Mountain Lion, and one of them is Internet

  • Lost internet connection after installing BT dongle (MS-6967)

I have tried installing the MSI Bluetooth USB dongle (MS-6967) drivers twice. I tried the 1.3.1 version and the 1.4.2 version drivers. The Bluetooth dongle itself works fine, but both times I lost my internet connection after installation. After this I have to remove the drivers and repair my installation with the Windows CD, but then windows and all of my programs also need to be updated again since my original Windows CD is a first release version.
The weird thing is that I can connect to other local computers and I can even ping external computers, but browsing websites (on IP address), looking up domain names and retrieving mail are no longer possible. I have no firewall software installed.
Does anyone konw how to fix this?

Am I really the only one with this problem? Well I have seen someone else on another forum ...
Maybe someone knows how to reinstall just the TCP/IP stack?
I'm using a notebook with buil-in network card. It runs W2K dutch version SP4 and things worked before when I was using SP1. Somehow it doesn;t work now anymore. Before I start reinstalling everyting again, I just want to check once more if anyone has some tips for recovering.

  • Lost Printer Sharing after HP Driver Upgrade.

I have a 3.06 Intel Core Duo iMac and a 253 Intel Core i5 Macbook Pro. Both are running 10.6.8. They have until recently successfully shared my HP C8180 All in One Printer, the iMac being connected to the printer via USB and to a Netgear Router via Ethernet and the Macbook Pro being linked to the router wirelessly.
Having just updated the HP Drivers via software update on both machines the Macbook Pro is no longer able to connect to the printer via the iMac wirelessly and the printer is not reported as being "Nearby". It does however connect via the iMac if it is connected to the router via Ethernet !
Printer sharing is on on the iMac, I have tried removing the printer from both machines Preferences and re-instating them (which coincidentally has meant I have lost the connection to "Lightscribe" and can't get it back on either machine !) I've tried installing the latest HP Software to try and get the Macbook pro to connect to the printer directly via the router but witth no success - it reports that some of the HP software is not compatible with 10.6.8 despite HP saying it is for 10.6.
Does anyone have any idea how I can get the laptop to print in the way it did up until earlier today and how to get "lightscribe" back?

After more experimentation I found that not only was Printer Sharing not working neither was File Sharing but printer sharing worked if both computers were connected to my Netgear router by ethernet but not when the laptop was connected wirelessly.
This suggested a wireless problem, possibly within the Netgear Router. As both could access the internet however they were connected to the router it looked as though the router was not passing an incoming wireless message from the laptop out to the iMac via ethernet.
I finally found a solution to the printer sharing part of my problem. I remembered eventually that I had a similar problem some many months ago and that it resolved itself after all of my equipment had been switched off and disconnected from the mains power.
Consequently I switched everything off, unplugged it all from the mains power supply and left it for 25 minutes. On reconnecting and rebooting everything the printer sharing now works properly again with the MacBook Pro connected wirelessly and the iMac via ethernet to the router an, for printing, the iMac via USB to the printer.
I think that the  loss of "Lightscribe" may relate to the way the printer is set up internally. Reviwing the Printer User Manual I suspect that it is probably reverted to a set up allowing control of "Lightscribe" internally rather than via a computer (possibly this happened after a reset of the printer to factory settings some time in the past) and when I removed Lightscribe from the list of printers in the iMac's Print & Fax preferences the iMac couldn't find it again. As I don't use "Lightscribe" I'm leaving well alone.
Hope this self reply helps others.

  • Lost Airport Connection after sleep/shutdown

    Hi there,
I have spent a goodly part of this weekend trying to solve this problem, the time has now come to seek assistance from someone who might know what they are doing!
I have an Airport Extreme Base Station, it is connected to an ADSL ethernet router and then to the ADSL phone line. My G5 connects directly to the router via ethernet. My G3 iBook has an airport card and, sometimes anyway, connects to the internet via the base station.
The problem I have been having is that whenever the iBook goes to sleep it loses its Airport connection and to get it back again takes forever switching Airport on and off, going into Internet connect, changing around the TCP/IP settings etc. I eventually get the connection back (with the original settings), but it's becoming a real pain. The same thing happens after a restart or shutdown, it doesn't automatically connect to Airport and takes forever to get it to. A lot of the time the Base Station doesn't show up as an available network, then all of a sudden it will after various tweakings.
I have checked the airport card and it is positioned correctly. The fact that it occassionally recognises the Base Station makes me think also that the card is OK. So my question is, how can I keep the darn thing connected? I feel there is something simple I am missing.
Incidently, this began happening after I had set it up to print through the Base Station, that only worked for a short period of time. I have since get rid of all those settings.
Hope I have given enough information.
    Cheers

  • Lost iTunes Sharing after latest updates

I was sharing my iTunes over an Airport Express/Ethernet network among three Macs (Powerbook G4, iMac G5, G4 DA) and a PC). I updated all 3 of the Macs to iTunes 6.0.4, OS 10.4.5 and latest Security Update. (I did not use Software Update; I downloaded from the Apple Downloads and then applied the updates to each computer. I did the usual permissions repair, etc.) I can no longer share iTunes to or from the iMac. The Powerbook will share with the G4 DA. The iMac and the Powerbook are both networked over the Airport so the Airport Express is not the problem.
The iMac lists both of the other computers in the "Source" list "Shared Music" but when I try to choose one of the other computers, I get the spinning beachball and then after a long time:
The shared music library "Other Computer's Name" is not accessible for an unknown reason (-3259) (or sometimes (-3263))
Check that any firewall sortware running on either the shared computer or this computer has been set to allow communication on port 3689.
I have checked the firewall and sharing settings and everything is correct.
On the other 2 Macs the iMac doesn't even show up in the source list at all even though it is set to share all the music. I am guessing I need to reset a preferences file on the iMac.
I tried searching on this topic in the knowlegebase and earlier discussions, but it seems all the pertinent links are broken.

I thought I'd mention this... After upgrading my PowerMac G4 with 10.4.6 I suddenly couldn't share printers. The printer and the PowerMac G4 wouldn't even appear in the listings to connect. It was like the G4 disappeared.
For the life of me I couldn't figure out what happened. Then finally I found the problem. The network on my wireless airport was connected to another wireless network. Somehow during the uprade my G4 was pointing to someone elses wireless router signal it was picking up.
You can verify this if you click the airport icon on the right side of the OS X toolbar menu. You can then select your own airport network.
This of course is only if you use an airport network.
Just a thought and wanted to throw it out there.. Simple problem but it took me a little while to find it. And it happened immediately after upgrading the G4.

  • Lost printer sharing after adding WRT160N; Vista home, XP on wireless network

Help please..Need to get printer connection lost when FIOS Actiontec router wireless G replaced with WRT160N.
All worked fine 3 months ago; Printer hardwired to Vista desktop; router was Linksys WRT160N, my XP laptop could connect wirelessly to that printer.
    -then, switched from RCN broadband to Verizon FIOS; modem replaced by Actiontec wireless G router for internet and tv, losing the Linksys. I was still able to use the Actiontec's G signal to find the printer through the network; so, still OK.  But Not happy with G speed;
    - so daisychained the Linksys as secondary hardwired to the Actiontec to act as an access point for wireless, shutting off the Actiontec wireless signal.  Worked great for N internet connection; but now cannot connect to printer.
Coincidentally, a different printer/fax machine replaced the original printer; Aficio brand.  No drivers were added to the other pc's for this printer.
Third change; security went from WEP to WPA2-AES.
Net result; my XP pc's can still connect to router and internet; but cannot install the new printer completely.
my XP laptop shows the printer, but gets error "spooling service not running".  an XP desktop doesn't even show the printer when browsing to add printers; it gets stuck at error "cannot add a printer not in the trusted network".  Named all computers as WORKGROUP and did the windows network set-up.  I also have McAfee antivirus on the Vista home pc; but have Norton Symantec from Comcast (long story!) on the 2 XP pc's; so I cannot fully identify and manage the three pc;'s on the network.
    my ideas;
    1. change WPA2-AES back to WEP; just to see.
    2. could put McAfee on all three pc's, if that would help.  rather not, i prefer the Symantec.
    3. try to configure so that all devices are identified clearly on the network, and managed.
    4. ? try to load drivers for the printer, onto the XP's.  Maybe easiest to do this by hardwiring them directly to the new printer.
    any suggestions?
    thanks, pdoyle

How you have connected this both the routers to each other?
    LAN - to - LAN
    or
    LAN - to - WAN ?
Is your Printer is connected to the Actiontec router or is it connected to the Linksys Router?

  • Losing internet connection after sleeping

I have an iMac - about 2 months old & airport extreme which I purchased at the same time. My provider is Time Warner Cable's Roadrunner service.
Every time my mac goes to sleep, reconnecting to the internet is murder. The green light remains on, on the AE. If I go to system Preferences > Network it tells me that Airport is connected to the Apple Network etc & that VPN is cnfigured, but not connected.
I have found a fix, but it's hardly hassle-free - I change the location and apply. That usually works. Next time it happens - and this can be anything from being away over night to 15 mins - I just change to another location & eventually get back on. It's really frustrating.
When I go to Show > AirPort, my settings are:
    By default join preferred networks
    PPoE isn't checked
Am I making really basic errors?

Well that worked for a while & now it's worse than ever. I have to play around with the settings for about 5 mins before it miraculously finds the internet again, but without me having actually changed anything. I just change the location, change it back - repeat a few times - and then it works.
    It's extremely frustrating

  • Lost network setting after sleep

Using cable modem, DHCP. On waking from sleep, network settings are lost. I have to restart. This is new problem. Happens with router, and when connected directly to modem. Happens with OS X and when booted in OS 9.2.2.
    Powerbook G4/867/512/40   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

    Hi Michael:
I've been experiencing the same thing the last couple of months. I put my iBook to sleep overnight, and in the morning I have no network access until I restart. I haven't tried in OS 9.2.2 yet, but it's happening in 10.3.9. With the exception of iTunes, all software and security updates have been applied.
Have you had any success with this?

  • Lost internet access after 10.10.2 update

Since the OSX 10.10.2 update my iMac (late 2008) can't access the internet anymore.
    This is what happend:
Due to the incorrect installation of the OSX 10.10.2 update I had to reinstall OSX from the recovery disk. The installation went smoothly and OSX 10.10.2 is now installed.
    The Problem:
The system can't connect to the internet anymore. From my Wi-Fi router (Fritzbox) the iMac gets an IP address and it is also possible to access the routers GUI via web browser by entering the router IP. If i enter a www. address in my web browser (Firefox) i'm getting the message "no internet access". The same thing happens with other browsers or programs which want access on the Internet. But My MacBook and Windows PC can easily access on the internet, so i can exclude a problem with the router or modem.
Here's what I've tried, without success:
    - Disabled OSX firewall
    - Little Snitch deactivated
    - Disabled Avira Antivirus
    - Enter the IP address instead of www in your web browser
    - Hosts file in /private/etc deleted
    - Restarted the router, modem and iMac
    - Go through OSX Network Diagnostics
    - Reinstalled OSX 10.10.2 i
    - Little Snitch completely uninstalled
    - Connected the iMac directly to the router via LAN cable
    - Various alternative DNS server (Google, openDNS)
    - The DNS cache emptied via terminal command
    - deleted all preference files in Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration containing "wifi", "network", "nat", "preferences" and "airport"
All of these things didn't help at all and no web browser or other program is able to access the internet. Any ideas what to do further?

  • Slow Screen Sharing after Sleep Wakeup

I use my MBP to Screenshare with my Mac Pro QuadCore (using the former to run programs on the latter). Normally it works fine and is fast enough to feel fairly seamless.
However, when my Mac Pro goes to sleep and then wakes up, Screensharing slows to a crawl. It doesn't always happen, but often enough to be incredibly annoying Reconnecting doesn't help, nor does restarting my MBP. The only cure is to restart my Mac Pro, at which point it's as fast as it was before.
Any suggestions to fix this? Anyone else experiencing similar problems?

Has anyone tried this: http://blog.macminicolo.net/post/33839671756/build-a-dummy-dongle-for-a-headless -mac-mini? i tried quartz debug from xcode as suggested here http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1422058&page=2 with no luck.
