Lost Iphone 3 months ago - someone "found" it and wants a reward

My daughter lost her Iphone 4S 3 months ago.  I reported it stolen/lost, suspended service and replaced the phone.  I had a text on there that said to call my own cell number if it was found.  Today, 3 months later, someone called and said they "found" it and wanted a reward.  I said it was stolen and no reward was being offered because it has already been replaced.  He said he didn't steal it but wanted a reward to return it - I refused and he hung up. The cell # he called from is on the T Mobile system (he says the phone he was calling from belonged to his neighbor).  I can pay to find out the address on a website, but is it even worth it?  Is the phone useless anyway at this point?  I believe I could use it for a backup phone if I ever need one, but I'd have to track this guy down somehow.

Who is to know if the person calling you was the person who had "stolen" it? They could simply have found it as they said after the person who stole it had tossed it aside when it was inoperable because it had been reported stolen.
Another question to ask yourself is did you replace it with insurance you had on it? If so, then you would have to return the "found" phone to Assurion as they are now the rightful owners of the device.
Regardless, I am unsure how easy it is to get a phone off of Verizon's blacklist as I have never tried to do so.
Whether or not you track down the phone, I am not sure if you would want to confront the person with the phone. It may be more of a case for the police and whether or not they would be willing to assist is questionable.

  • I lost my iPhone in Marrakech. Someone found him and does not want me to send Spain. What I can do?

Hi, last month I lost my iPhone in Morocco, in the city of Marrakech. Well, not if I lost it or it was stolen out of the taxi. Anyway, call me today asking me a Moroccan apple ID to unlock the phone and then send me ..
Clearly, he wants to deceive me and keep the phone in his possession. What I can do, I can report him to the authorities? Do you have any lawyer who can legally act on my behalf?

We are all iphone users just like you.
No one here can help you.
    Contact the police.

  • My dads iphone got lost/stolen three months ago but he didnt have find my iphone in it . Is there any chance we could find it if we give the IMEI code and the serial number to the police ?

My dads iphone got lost/stolen 3 months ago. Is there a chance we could track it down eventhough it didnt have find my iphone on it.?

Sorry, no. If your carrier offers Blacklisting, that will make the phone unusable as a phone, in your country. Otherwise, there's not much you can do other than hope the police recover it.

No one on here can tell you the fare market value of your iPhone...look at the prices being paid on places like eBay or Craigslist to get an idea.

It would be up to Apple whether or not to replace the device.
    Try a reset ...
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
If that doesn't help, restore the iPad >  iTunes: Restoring iOS software

You can restore it to the most recent back-up in iTunes.

    Hello tom,
I understand you are having issues activating an iPhone 3G. The following article addresses the exact error message you included:
    iPhone: Troubleshooting activation issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3424
    Resolution
    - Restart the iPhone.
    - Try another means of reaching the activation server and attempt to activate.
              - Try connecting to Wi-Fi if you're unable to activate using a cellular data connection.
              - Try connecting to iTunes if you're unable to activate using Wi-Fi.
    - Restore the iPhone.
If you receive an alert message when you attempt to activate your iPhone, try to place the iPhone in recovery mode and perform a restore.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

    Ok.
Did you ever have possession of this phone?
Or did you get lost in the mail?
You're not answering the question I'm asking, so it's really hard to help you.
As already stated by Chris and I you can only track your phone if you had findmyiphone enabled in icloud settings.
Then you can log into icloud.com and use the find my iphone app.
Since you said you don't have internet, then you can't track it.

You can export ONLY Camera Roll photos and videos.

All my apps were downloaded from my new apple ID. Not his.
Sign in to iTunes Store (on desktop itunes) with your ID. Plug your iphone to itunes, right click on it and choose transfer purchases.Right click again and choose backup. Then you can sync with iTunes.

Your conversations will not deleted if you sync with your iTunes.
What is the problem with iCloud? iCloud has nothing to do with iTunes syncing.

  • Lost my iPhone 4 months ago - Found in Turkey - What do I do?

    Hey all,
I lost my phone on the London Underground back around 4 months ago on July 5th. It thankfully was installed with iOS 7 (BETA) and had activation lock etc enabled. I straight away put it into Lost Mode on FindMyiPhone and there was no trace of it for 4 months. Nevertheless my heart has long moved on and I have been content with my iPhone 4. However today I suddenly got a message from iCloud and it said it had been found - Excitingly I went to check where it is. It was found in.... Wait for it.... Turkey! I'll post a screen grab of where it is. It had 19% battery on it. The IMEI has been barred in the UK too by Orange.
Any clue as to what I could do guys?
Any help would be appreciated. Cheers thanks.

iRiddim can always ask about that, sure.  But when carriers share IMEI blacklists, it should be automatic - once blacklisted by one, it should automatically be blacklisted by all the co-operating carriers.
Other than maybe the EU though, I don't know of any international carrier IMEI blacklist agreements.  Carriers within a country may cooperate to share blacklists, but I've never heard of those agreements applying crossing international borders anywhere, unfortunately (although supposedly some USA and Canadian carriers are working on doing that here).  That's one of the very reasons why so many stolen devices make such international journeys - to be sold in a blackmarket where no native local/national blocking will affect them.

  • HT4623 My Iphone wont turn on...this happened a few months ago with an update and it crashed my phone

I have an I Phone 4 and it was working this morning went to use this afternoon the phone is dead. I tried charging it wont turn on at all. I had this happen a few months ago when my phone automatically updated and it crashed the phone. Apple had me do a restore to the phone. I did copy everything to ICloud but is it a software or hardware problem and why wont it boot up. or how do I get it to boot up. Its saying in ICloud its offline.

If safe, carefully slide iPhone into a plastic bag, double bag it for sure. Use items like pencils or kitchen utensils so you do not touch it. Make Genius reservation, and take it to Apple for replacement under Warranty.

  • My apple id has been disabled. I have set a new password and it still does not work. Does anyone know why this would have happened.  About 6 months ago someone hacked my itunes account  so I set a new password.

My Apple ID has been disabled.  I have set a new password, but it still is saying disabled.  About six months ago my itunes was hacked. Itunes replaced the money, but now I am cannot get in. Is there anyone who might be able to help me out? Thanks

What did itunes support tell you?
If you did everything it says then you contacted them.
    From the article you linked:
If the issue persists, you can visit iCloud Support, iTunes Support, Apple Print Products, or contact AppleCare for further assistance."

  • I lost my iphone 5 months ago and i would like to know if i can find my phone?

Hello, there I lost my phone a few months during an event and I never find and I call my Company phone and I had to buy another one that I wanted to know if there had an opportunity to recover or a way to find it?

    You're welcome.
I would advise against that for the reasons I provided.
Could I have my iPad 2 for the new one paying the difference between their values?
No. Sell the existing yourself and use the proceeds to purchase a new iPad.

  • HT5824 I lost my iPhone and set it to erase. I just found it and wanted to know how to cancel the erase command

I lost my phone and set it to erase. Now I have found it. How do i cancel the erase function?

Here’s my question. My laptop is broken and I had a crack in my iPhone screen. Prior to sending it in to repair I backed up using iCloud and before restoring my phone to factory settings decided to do the software update. Half way through the update it asked me to connect to iTunes. So here’s were it gets complicated…
My charger is also broken, so in my panic at the stranger fixing my phone seeing my personal stuff I used the erase everything on the find my iPhone app, thinking iCloud had my back. It was still asking to be connected to iTunes so my friend have me their laptop nod charger (automatic sync not turned on) I plugged it in, the command went away and I sent my phone to be repaired.
It came back all shiny and new, but iCloud back up disppeared along with four years of photos, videos, etc etc. I contacted apple who had engineers go through their servers to find nothing from my iPhone backed up. I searched my friends laptop for music I have bought and even plugged the phone into their laptop but comes up with their phones name and their last back up. I have restored from iCloud and set up as a new phone.
I am worried my friend will have my information from my iPhone. Is it possible and if not has it just been erased forever?
sorry not really an answer but similar sort of question

  • My ex husband bought our 2 girls new Iphones some months ago. They just noticed he had them logged into his icloud and they have never used this facility. Can anyone confirm that he has access to their photos, imessages, SMS, facebook and email etc?

The children had new IPhones 5s bought for them by my ex-husband. He set them up and logged them into his Icloud account which they were unaware of. Some months later they have messages saying their Icloud storage is full which alerted them to the fact it was his Icloud account on their phones. There was also some transference of personal photos from other devices to their phones from his phone? We know he was able to see things on their phone but did not know how. Can he backup all their info without their knowledge? Did he have access to their email; imessage, SMS, facebook, photos etc
Please explain how we can ensure his icloud account details are removed from their phones so he can not access their phones. In addition is there anyway he could have put spyware on their phones and if so can we run a test of some sort?
    Any help greatly appreciated.

You should do the following on each of your children's devices:
    Log out of iCloud.
Log out of the iTunes Store and App Store.
    Create a new Apple ID.
Log in to iCloud using the new Apple ID.
It isn't possible to install malicious software on an iOS device unless the device is jailbroken or you have the resources of a government intelligence agency.
