Lost ipod can't set up i meassenger on new device because the e-mail is linked to the old device

My daughter lost her Ipod which had i meassenger linked to her e-mail. we dissabled the lost ipod. But trying to set up i meassenger on the new device i get the error the email is already linked to a different device. Is there anyway around this error or do i need to create a new email account?

The only thing you do not want to do is over-stuff the internal hard drive. The OS needs some space to operate correctly, so if your iTunes library uses up more than say 80 to 85% of the internal HD's available space it may not be a good idea to transfer it over.
With that said, the internal HD will provide slightly faster access to the library than the external would, but other than that, you can point iTunes to the external drive just fine.

TS1398 I can't set up wifi on my new ipad.

I can't set up wifi on my new ipad. It won't connect to the network. Wifi is working on other devices in the house.

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app
    •    Tap on Wi-Fi
    •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

Yes, but the first time you sync with a new iTunes library it will delete any iTunes media an apps from your phone and replace them with the media in the iTunes library your are syncing with (purchased apps and music can be redownloaded for free: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519).
When you get to work, connect your phone to your computer, then right-click on the name of your phone when it appears in iTunes on the left sidebar and choose Restore From Backup.

You cannot. Your best course of action is to immediately change all your internet passwords, notify the police and your insurance company. Send the remote wipe command to the MBA through iCloud.com and buy a new one from the insurance reimbursement.

You can't merge the backups, you'll have to delete the backup of your old phone. If it says it's currently in use when you try, that will normally clear up on its own but may take 3-5 days to do so. Give it a few days and try deleting the old backup again.
In the meantime, you can create a manual backup of your new phone on your computer by connecting it to your computer, opening iTunes, clicking on the name of your phone in iTuens, going to the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and clicking Back Up Now. Also go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases. Then you'll be safe until you can start backup up to iCloud again.

You're looking in the wrong place. You need to look under the Store menu in iTunes. If you have iTunes 11 on a Windows system which has the menus hidden by default for some unexplainable reason, press Control-B.

Tried to restore my ipod I just wanted to back to factory setting and delete everything on it. I did it and NOW everything is erased, gone, and stuck on the apple logo. Populated that it is in recovery mode and needs to be restored. Clicked on restored and error (1) came up. So now I have a useless iPod that I purchased. Big apple user minus my laptop. 2 iPod, 2 iShuffles, iPad, 4 iPhones, iMac 27 inch. If this isn't rectified I will never buy and continue to push my consumers, family, and friends on my bad experience with apple. iTunes is up to date and now I am concerned that if do anything to my phone this same problem will happen.

Error 1 or -1 can be very tricky to resolve and sometimes leads to a device needing service. That being said, here are the steps I would go through first for this specific error.
Check for hardware issues
Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the alert when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

How can I set my MacBook up to have a secure and nonsecure (at work, out of the office) mode?

I'm looking for a way I can set my Mac up so that there are two modes - one for when I'm at work, or at home, and one for when I am out and about / working remotely. The modes would be:
A: the screensaver does not come on for 20-30 minutes, and when it does, it doesn't then require a password login
B: the screensaver comes on after a few minutes, and then requires a password to access the laptop again
I have a sneaking suspicion I can do this with the automator, but I'm new to Macs so looking for some guidance with this. The ideal would be to have an icon on the desktop (or similar) for each mode I could just click on to activate that mode.

Don't use the full screen arrow in the top right corner of the window. Instead, use the green + in the top left corner. That takes the window full screen just below the menu bar.
