Lost Ipod Playlist

I have a 5th Gen IPOD and lost my harddrive on my computer. Everything is backed up on my ipod and an external drive. All the playlist are only on my IPOD. Can anyone recommend a solution to get the playlists off the IPOD?
I tried Yamipod, but it requires you to have your IPOD preset with ITUNE. If I do that it will erase my entire IPOD.
Thanks,
Eric

there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a small selection of what's available, you can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

  • Upgrade lost iPod, Playlists and music

I upgraded my iTunes to the most recent version (6.0.1(3)) because I wanted PodCasts.
When i went to launch it there are now a bunch of older Playlists showing, but no new ones. On top of that when I plugged in my iPod it didn't recognize it. Additionally a few CDs I recently purchased from the iTunes store aren't there either!
    Where'd my stuff go?!?!

I tried to change "This helped me" to "This solved problem" for both of you.  Sorry, I can't figure out how to change ~  THANKS ~

I sync'ed my iPod and lost my playlists on the iPod and Genius appears.  How do I get the playlists back on my iPod?

All you can do is restore from backup if yu have one. If you backed up to iTunes make sure that autosyncing is turned off. Otherwise when you connect the iPod to the computer the backup with you data might be overwritten. To turn off go to iTunes>Preferences>Devicesand check the box that says "Prevent iPods...".

  • I downloaded an album on itunes that is showing up on my computer but not on my ipod playlist. What should I do?

I recently had to restore my ipod to a different computer after not using it for a long while.  I downloaded an album and I see it on my computer on my iTunes playlist but it is not on my ipod playlist.  What can I do?  I can see I purchased the album.

    - Delete and redownload by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    - If you can't delete
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Is there an app to recover lost ipods?

Hello everyone. A lost ipod is not that significant a  problem in the context of this world, but has anyone developed a way to locate a lost ipod?
This is the second lost on or around BART in SF. I've contacted them in the past and will again in the future. But it is the person who will pick up that wonderful instrument I listened to in love, difficulty, and fun really know how important that small item is in my life?
Personal playlists, personal videos, yes, a record of my life, that was my ipod.
A reward for my iphone brought it back, but an ipod?
Let me know what has worked for you.

    Find My iPhone App
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/find-my-iphone/id376101648?mt=8
Compatible for iPod Touch 3G or better, iPhone 3s or better, iPad 3 or better working on iOS 5 or better. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. Plus you need iCloud.... (not sure how to set it up)..... unless you have iCloud set up to your devices running iOS 5 or better, there is no chance to find, track, or locate your iDevices (will NOT work on Nano, Classic, Shuffle, Mini, iPod Touch 1st Gen or iPod Touch 2nd Gen)..... change any passwords used on that iDevices and report to the police. Apple won't do anything.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2526 (Report Lost/Stolen Apple Product)..... when reporting to the police, this will find the serial numbers on your devices that was stolen.
If the devices was RESTORED there is nothing you can do.
As for tracking the device you have to use the Find My iPhone app on a different iOS (if your devices doesn't have the app no problem, you just need icloud)..... it will attempt to find the device or either lost or got stolen. For iPod Touch it needs to be connected with Wi-Fi in order to work.
Plus with iCloud, you should be able to delete any data on that devices (even if stolen)..... again if they restore the device..... ALL DATA is deleted and you can't find it. It will be removed from iCloud.

  • IPod Playlists & Ratings ~ Restore How  To iTunes?

    Hi,
I have a 40GB iPod Photo which I am sad to say is now completely full, and can no longer hold all of my iTunes tracks.
Unfortunately, I had to do a fresh install & Erase of my G5 iMac and therefore lost my playlists and ratings.
I did back them up and copied / imported them back into iTunes, but the Playlists were all mixed up and empty and the Ratings missing.
What I want to do is restore the Ratings that are on my iPod (I am not too bothered about the Playlists being restored) back into my copy of iTunes v 7.
This is because I have far too many tracks for me to have to start all over again, and I would probably end up with some differences.
My iPod is at present set Manual because as I said it is full now, and unable to accommodate all my tracks.
Can anyone here please tell me if it is possible and if so how, to restore the Ratings back to iTunes.
Once the Ratings are back in iTunes, I dont mind if I have loose the tracks on the iPod because they are all fully backed up.
    Hope you can help.

Check out PodWorks 2.8.5 You can read about it here: Version Tracker It is shareware but only 8 bucks and will download from the iPod all the music and meta data including star ratings, play counts etc. 8 bucks would have to be preferable to manually re-entering the ratings.
The reviews are mostly positive and there are 103 of them.

  • IPod Playlists in itunes 5.0

    ITunes 5.01 / iPod Clickwheel 20GB / Mac os 10.3.9
I have lost my playlists in iTunes but still have them on my iPod, how can I copy just the playlists from the iPod back to iTunes.
I have all the songs on the iPod and the Mac, so it's just the lists that I want.

    Troubleshooting http://www.apple.com/itunes/mobile/faq/
When I connect my phone, it doesn’t show up in the source list in iTunes. What should I do?
First check that you meet the minimum system requirements mentioned above. Also, be sure that you’ve either installed iTunes from the CD that came with your phone or installed it from the iTunes download web page. Visit www.itunes.com/download to download the latest version of iTunes. Also, be sure that your phone is in “Memory Card” mode. To do this on your phone, go to Settings > Connection > USB Settings. Be sure the Default Connection has “Memory Card” selected. If you are still having difficulty, choose iTunes Music Store Service & Support from the Help menu in iTunes. For hardware issues with your phone, visit: http://www.hellomoto.com/ROKR or contact your cellular phone provider.

  • "And the beat goes on...." Lost all playlists and 8.0.2 takes away features

Upgrade to 8.0.2 has been a disaster-beware out there. Lost all playlists and have yet to get an answer on how to fix that problem so am just going to create new playlists(could be a good thing).
The latest f...up is that 8.0.2 seems to have taken away the option of creating a "smart shuffle" with songs being played less randomly-used to go to Preferences, Playback, and one of the options was a slider where you could choose how random your shuffle would be. Now there is no slider for that and I keep hearing the same songs constantly in my "random shuffle".
This is one of the reasons people are warned not to ever upgrade your itunes-because Apple ALWAYS takes away features from their customers in their latest upgrades-it's their whole corporate philosophy and mindset. They don't care for their customers-just want to appear "cool" and above everyone else(sometimes called arrogance).
So, is there a way to get the random slider back? Can I "downgrade" my itunes so I can get features that have been stolen from us by Apple?

You might have had a damaged 'iTunes Library' file.
Look in ./Users/Username/Music/iTunes to see if such a file exists.
Unfortunately these damaged files cannot be repaired.
iTunes tries to restore as much information as possible, but some information is lost.
Your missing 2000 tunes probably still are on your HD.
To add these again to the library, drop the 'iTunes Music' folder (in ./Users/Username/Music/iTunes) on the library window in iTunes.
iTunes will now add the missing songs to the library again.
If all goes well, your library will now list the 6200 songs.
Concerning your iPod. I think it's best to start from scratch.
If your iPod is set to automatically update, connect your iPod and immediately press and hold the Command and Option keys. Hold these keys down until the iPod appears in iTunes.
Holding these keys prevents the iPod from auto updating.
Then restore your iPod and set it up the way you want.
Your 'Purchased' playlist will re-appear on your next purchase.
In the meantime you can create a Smart Playlist with the rule:
    Kind - contains - protected
This playlist will then list all your purchases.
After the Purchased playlist re-appears, it will only list new purchases. If you want it to contain all purchases, drag the songs from the Smart Playlist to the 'Purchased' playlist.
Or just forget the 'Purchased' playlist and use the 'Smart Playlist' to view your purchases.
    Hope this helps.

  • Re-formatted laptop - have lost the playlists

I got my laptop re-formatted, cleaned up, etc.  I got the tech to copy my itunes library then put it back on the newly re-formatted laptop.  I have all of my library of tracks but I seem to have lost my playlists.   Can anyone advise if i can get my playlists back ?    Other info:
    - I have a back up but I'm not sure if i have the playlist file .... i might've just copied the library to the backup.  What's the name of the playlist file and which folder will it be in ?
    - my itouch has all my playlists on it.  So ..... i can re-create them on the laptop one by one but that'll be a pain in the ***.    Is there anyway to electronically get the playlists off the itouch and onto the laptop ?  I thought it always synched the other way around ..... ie the computer will overwrite the itouch and I'll lose all my playlists the minute I synch it.   If that WILL happen, can you let me know .......  then I WON'T synch it but instead will recreate the playlists one by one ?
Sorry for being a moron .....

  • Lost all playlists and purchaced music when upgrading

I Just upgraded to itunes 7.6 version and 'bam' all my beloved playlists and purchaced music are gone! - anyone have any ideas where they could be? The playlists that do appear on the screen are ones that I created some years ago for an earlier transfer to a long lost ipod. Help!!!

Perhaps the upgrade reset the iTunes Music Folder location?
Edit -> Prefs -> Advanced tab -> General
If you know the location of your songs see if its changed. If you know the name of one of your songs, search your PC? for that song name. That should show you the location of the file. That location should be in the General tab above.
What about your account info, did that get reset? Can you still sign on?
    Store -> Sign In.
I dont know how all of the purchase music thing works yet because ive been working a 2 week long issue myself that I just fixed.

  • I seemed to have lost my playlists. where could I find them

I downloaded the latest version and have now lost the playlists for two ipods.

If these playlists are no longer in iTunes, on either of the two iPods, or in a backup of iTunes somewhere, then I'm afraid you are out luck.  Were you connecting these iPods to a new/empty iTunes library or did you connect it to the same iTunes library they normally sync with?
Have you tried looking for these missing files via Windows Explorer (PC) or the Finder (Mac).

  • Restore ipod playlists after crash

I have a 2nd gen 10gb ipod. I have a new 20" intel imac that I bought in January. I backed up my itunes library folder in January, before I bought my new imac. Two weeks ago my new imac's HD's firmware got corrupted during a windows re-installation attempt using bootcamp. The end result, I had to replace my imac's HD.
So... I dragged my backed up itunes folder into it's new place. It is two months old, but it resteored my music and album art from January. Problem is, I lost my playlists and two months of music that exists on my ipod which is current.
What is the best resolution/solution to make my imac and ipod be friends again and not lose data/music.

  • Changing the song order in my ipod' playlist

I tried to change the order of my songs in the in ipod playlist,it show me in the itunes how I wanted but when I disconnect my ipod it still in same order. In itunes I can change the order the way I want to ,like I can show by Artist,Album, time or size. But this changes have no effect at all in the ipod which always keep the same order that it was: By album .

The "answer" to this question doesn't say anything. Of course, in theory, you "can" set the order, but it doesn't always work. Is this just faulty coding in the iTunes software, or is there some workaround? I have had this work occasionally, but not consistently. I have checked to make sure the "random" setting was off. I'm also at a lost, as is the original questioner.

I'm having the same problem! I've purchased several new songs which will play fine on the computer, but if I drag them to the iPod playlist, I can't listen to them on the Pod.
I hope this can be fixed quickly. It's driving me nuts.

  • My itunes library and ipod playlist disappeared?

i'm not sure what happened, but i intentionally deleted a bunch of mp3 files from my library (about 75% of my music folder) after uploading them to my 30 gig new generation Ipod. I believe that after this action, my Itunes library disappeared - including my Ipod playlist (the playlist i defaulted my Ipod to sync with). Now, whenever i open up Itunes, there's no music in my library or anything. I still have my 10 gigs of music on my Ipod that i had uploaded prior to this, however, i want to add more songs onto my Ipod. The problem and question here is, i'm afraid that when i sync my Ipod with a new playlist, will all of the songs on my Ipod be erased?
i had the idea of downloading IpodRip to retrieve the songs from my Ipod to my computer, then just starting from scratch and adding all the songs at one time, however, IpodRip would only open with errors and not retrieve my songs.
i hope someone understands this situation - i have a difficult time explaining it in type without sounding confusing. i'm not very feature-savvy with Itunes or my Ipod.

You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7 installed hold down the Control and Alt keys (or Shift + Ctrl keys in older versions). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes 7 Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved also it was written long before iTunes 7 so it requires a little adaptation as the iPod preferences are no longer in the location described. Also it won't transfer playlists or videos as far as I know. However if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iGadget Windows Only

Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. Relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.
