Lost IPTC meta data on TIFF import -- old and unsolved problem?

Hi,
this is my first post, after using Aperture on a casual basis for 7 months.
Browsing the forum I found the same problem in older threads but the solutions do not help in my case: When I export pictures with IPTC I set in Graphic Converter, metadata will be imported from the RAW (NEC from a Nikon D80) and from JPEG files, but not from the TIFF, whatever encoding or byte order I choose.
Any help in that matter?

You didn't say which version of Aperture you are using. Up until the recent updates I found Aperture missed, or cut off, a log of IPTC data when I imported RAW files. This seems to be solved with the current version, but ratings still don't get imported.
I used Annoture (http://www.tow.com/annoture/) to copy over the data. I would import the images into Aperture, then also into iView Media Pro. I'd select all the images in Aperture and then run Annoture. Annoture would take all the IPTC data from the iView catalogue and copy them to the selected images in Aperture (also works on selected projects I think).
It's a long winded solution, but did the job.

I have over 2,000 images. I don't want to go back through each image and add meta data.

No, do not re-import your images. I assume you can see the thumbnails in the library module, just cannot access the full images, right? If this is the case there should be an exclamation mark in the top right corner of every one of your pictures and you only have to tell LR where the images are now.
Click the exclamation mark of one of the images and a dialog window should pop-up, telling you that LR cannot find the file, but with an option to locate it. Press "Locate" and navigate to the folder on your new HD where the file is. If in the new external HD you kept the same folder structure that you had on the internal disk, LR will be able to find all your images and re-link them to the database without further intervention.

IDoc meta data not getting imported

I am trying to get IDoc meta-data using transaction IDX2. I have configued RFC destinations of type R3 in both the systems (ECC and XI). Also I have created port using transaction IDX1.
When tried to import MATMAS04 using the defined port it gives Information box displaying "I::000" and nothing happens. The information box does'nt contain any message.
Anybody faced this problem with IDoc?

Meta data not being imported

Hi,
I am using OBIEE 11. I have created an ODBC to a SQL database. I have created a new BI repository in the BI admin tool and chose the odbc as the data source. I selected all metadata types. When I click on the finish the database is in the physical layer but I cannot expand the nodes and no tables or views are present.
My colleague tried using a different data source the other day and he couldn't get the meata data in either.
Please advise.

I have created an ODBC to a SQL databaseI assume you mean you've created a system DSN pointing to a MS SQL Server database.
Did you try to test the DSN when creating it? You need to be sure it works. Also log in directly to the database with the same credentials to prove that you have the correct grants to see the various objects you want to import.
Within the Import Metadata wizard you need to expand the objects in the middle pane and click the right-pointing arrows to get them to move across to the right pane, then click 'Finish'. Your repository physical layer should then show a new database, connection pool, catalog, schema and tables.

When I copy files from my camera to my C drive and import to PP there isn't any meta data when I import direct from camera it is available.

My camera is a Sony HDR-CX730 AVCHD format
Software is Windows 7 and CS6 Production Suite
When importing images direct from the camera all metadata such as dates, time etc is available in PP
When files are copied from the camera to C Drive on the computer and then imported into PP the metadata is lost.
What do I need to do?

Thought it might have been the case. My GH3 also shoots both AVCHD and MOV/H.264 files. With the GH3, the AVCHD is both more complicated (on account of the folder structure) and a slight bit noisier ... with no other image quality gain. So I've done as most folks, shot really only the MOV with it.
But that first bit of shooting with it ... um ... naive, shall we say? ... after 35+ years of pro stills portrait shooting, and more than a decade totally digital, well ... yea, I just grabbed the image files too. As do an awful lot of people. A very common thing to solve around here!

Following a problem with my IPad and restoring it, I have lost the data in one of my game Apps ... I can see in ITunes/ pref my iPad back ups and want to try to sync with an older back up to get the data back. So how can I sync with an oldera back up?

In that same window - the one where you see your backups - click on the box at the bottom that say -Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads form syncing automatically. Then click OK and quit iTunes.
Connect your iPad to the computer and launch iTunes. Right click on the iPad name on the left side under the devices heading and select - Restore from backup. A window will pop up from which you can select any of the backups that you have for the iPad. Select the backup that you want to restore from and then go agreed and restore the iPad. Sync with iTunes when you are done.
Remember that when you restore from a backup - you restore everything in that backup to the iPad. You cannot selectively restore content. It is all or none.

Go to iTunea>Preferences>Devices and see if there is a backupright at the time you did the update. Then try restoring from that backup. If the apps are in your iTunes library, any app data will be restored to the iPod.
When restoring from an iOS 4 (or later) backup, if the device had a passcode set, iTunes will ask if you want to set a passcode (and remind you that you had protected your device with a passcode). iTunes will not ask you to set a passcode when restoring from iOS 3.x and prior backups.
Therefore, remembe the passcode that you enter this time.
It appears that if you restore from a backup, that backup is not subseqyently overwritten by the next backup.

Lost my developement data when reinstalled my platform and lightroom

I use Mac OS X 10.8 with Lightroom. I had ro reinstall my OS X and all the programs inc. Lightroom a month ago. I did a backup of my whole harddrive inc. Lightroom.
After reinstallation of Os X and Lightroom I imported my photos from a backup (inc. ircat -file) and got the photos showing ok. Later I realized that the developement data hasn´t been copied - the photos appear in original raw -mode without my corrections.
I still got my backupp (timemachine backups) from my previous OsX and programs left in a sepertate harddrive. What file do I need to dig up and form where to get my photos with the developements to appear?

The most recent LRCAT file from the previous computer would contain the develop settings as of the last time you used LR on the old computer. What happens when you open up that LRCAT file with Lightroom on the new computer?
Presumably you’d need to restore the photos to a similar location on your new computer, if they resided on your internal hard drive and do a Find Missing Folder(s) on all the top-level folders to re-hookup all the photos. You should not be Importing the existing photos into a new catalog because that will start over without any Develop settings.

My iMac has reset my profile while i've been away and i've lost all my data. What's happened and can I get my data back?

I've been away from home the past year, and thus havent logged into my profile during that time on the family iMac. The other profiles on the iMac are all normal, but while my profile username and avatar were the same, when I log in none of my data is there and it's like logging onto a new profile for the first time. I have a back up of my data, however my main concern is my itunes music as for some reason when I backed it up a year ago, it didnt get most of music. Premiere Pro CS6 importing/ audio and video problems

I recently recorded gameplay from my xbox, when i open this recording using windows media player it states that the video is 3 hours 30 minutes long, which is correct, when i then import this into premiere pro, premiere pro changes it to be 5 hours and 44 minutes long, when i then play this back it plays in slow motion and audio and video start to desync, i thought it may just be the source editor playing up so i made a clip and put it into the timeline and it still had the same outcome. The speed/duration are still on 100% so im not sure what to do, anyone have any idea as to what this is, or why it is happening?

What are the attributes of your PVR video...

Importing Assets and Timeline problem

Hello I have just purchased and installed Encore DVD 2.0 (inside Production Studio), so I am a novice. I have several movies/ shows/ etc. I created by using the Record TV in the Media Center Edition 2005 software. I've converted the DVR-MS file type to Mpeg2 using Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.0/VideoWave 7.0.
Using Encore DVD 2.0 I tried Importing MPEG2 file using Import as --> Assets and Timeline. It looked like the importing was moving along the progress bar reaching approx. 3/4 point. Then it restarts the importing process again reaching the 3/4 point again stopping with a popup box appears with the text message, "Stream Requested Does Not Exist". When I click the "Ok" button the importing process stops. What can I do to get Encore DVD 2.0 to work properly? Am I doing anything wrong?
My Computer is a HP Digital Entertainment Center Z555 using XP Media Edition Center 2005.
Intel Pentium 4 processor 530j with HT technology
2.5 Giga PC3200 DDR Memory
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 PCI-Express graphics card
250GB 7200rpm Serial ATA hard drive

As far as I'm aware, Nero is just fine as long as you don't create DVD-Video with it, as there was a bug with this when it seemed to not set the correct start sectors for the IFO & BUP files.
It's just fine for burning from ISO images, and for all other tasks though.
And that bug may well have been squashed by now.
Lots of people use Nero with no troubles at all - it's not my personal choice, but that means nothing.
It's certainly far superior to Roxio.
I'm actually quite surprised that Roxio & Nero are actually playing nice on the same system!
The only possible other "Gotcha" with Nero is the packet writing utility. Do not install this - it can and does interfere with burning DVD, as Packet writing works by helpfully "looking" at your burner(s) on a regular basis to "see" if there is any blank media inserted, and it will offer to format this & use it as a drag n drop type writing utility. It's called "InCD", and if already present should be uninstalled.

Additionally, the utilities included with Nero are generally of a much better standard than those with Roxio.

Hi everybody!
I have lost all my data when I clicked F11 and factory recovery was executed.
Is there any way to return back the data? They are very important.
They were all my data, very important including all data from university - for more than 4 years.
Please help me. I need an urgent help. The operating system is Windows Vista Business Edition - it is licensed.

Unfortunately I have bad news for you.
F11 invokes the Recovery Manager, where you have a number of options. The following two options are under the I need help immediately section.
Microsoft System Restore is a nondestructive process. If you make a mistake you can roll your system back to a restore point on a date that works for you.
System recovery is, on the other hand, a destructive process which deletes all data. Before the process begins it does warn you.
You may be able to recover your data by contracting a data recovery company. It will be quite expensive and without a guarantee of success.
Did you not have your university data backed up on an external drive?
