Lost iweb information

I couldn't open my iWeb programme. I then removed all iWeb documents from my disk, even the domain document in preferenses I think it was, and reinstalled iWeb. Then I removed the new domain document and replaced it with the old one, so as to keep all information on my web site and bloggs. But then the programme did not open. When I changed back to the new "domain" document the programme worked again. But my web site is gone.
Is there any way that I can save my site or do I have to rebuild it all over again?
Monica

Monica,
Update the reinstalled application to 1.1.1 from this link:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/iweb111.html
If you still have your original Domain file, or a copy of it, iWeb should open it.

  • After an update to Mt.Lion, my iWeb was GONE, leaving me with my website on my host, but all my iWeb information on my computer was totally wiped out. I was able to load iWeb again, but I will have to start all over rebuilding my site...any suggestions?

Has anyone else lost their entire iWeb information after upgrading to MT. Lion? I did manage to upload iWeb again, but it's like I've started all over with no data, so I will have to totally rebuild my site -if I ues iWeb-and upload the entier site again, and I have no guarantees that I won't lose it again.

Did you do a clean install of Mt. Lion, i.e. an erase and install? If you didn't  do a clean instal check inside the User/Library/Applicatrion Support/iWeb folder to see if there's a file there named Domain.sites.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you don't have a backup strategy then this would be a good time to start one.  The simplest to start is to use Time Machine with an external HD that's at least 1.5 times the size of your boot drive.

  • I've lost iWeb and thus my web design.  I must start from scratch.  Should I reinstall iWeb 09 and use that, or is there a better way?

The file you really need is named Domain.sites2 which resides in your   Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb foldler.  It's independent from the iWeb application. If it's not in there do you have a backup of your hard drive from an earlier time?
Resinatll iWeb 3 from the iLife 09 disk or wherever you got it from originally and then try what's described below:
In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • Hello! I'm out of the country and all my iWeb information is on my computer at home. Now I need to make changes on the webpage... how can i do that without using the computer i made the page on? Thank you!!

Hello! I'm out of the country and all my iWeb information is on my computer at home. Now I need to make changes on the webpage... how can i do that without using the computer i made the page on? Thank you!!

iWeb uses the domain.sites2 files to store its assets.
    You'll find it here :
    ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/
where ~ is your Home directory.
If you take a computer with you, you have to store that file in the same location.
It's not different from taking documents with you if you want to edit them.
A solution is to remotely control your computer at home.
TeamViewer, LogMeIn, Apple Remote Desktop or any VNC application you can use, like "Chicken of the VNC".

  • Lost iWeb

    Hi
I have completely lost iWeb from my Mac for some reason. Is there anyway that i can re-install iWeb either from the OS Installation disc or, from a separate iWeb i had purchased previously without causing damage or grief to all other programs?

The last Full back up the time machine did was a couple months ago. I have been having trouble with it. I did manage to find an older version of a "Domain.sites2" and that did open an iweb from that time so not all is lost. Thank you. One more question thou, I have all the backed up files (except the .site file because while in iWeb I not only published to .mac but published to a folder on the external hard drive. I brought those files over and when click on each index page it works great. Can't I write a .site to connect those pages to iweb if not how do I cut and paste the many pages as you suggest?
Why does iWeb give you the option to publish to a folder? What other things would you use this for?
    Thanks again for the help

    Hi morton2,
Thank you for using Firefox Sync. Without a recovery key, I am sorry you cannot recover right away. I know at the top of my head that it is possible to move the account to the new Firefox sync. [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-set-up-firefox-sync How to set up the new sync]
However this is currently not available in version 28, but version 29 (Beta and Aurora) On those versions you can go to about:accounts and select I already have an account. It *as far as I know* does not require a recovery key.
Once you have it set up, make a copy of the profile folder. you can copy it to the new installation of version 28 if that is the version you wish to continue using.
    I hope this helps.

  • I have lost my information for my Pagemaker and need a download to be able to use my Pagemaker files.

I have used Pagemaker for 20 years and upgraded each time. I have had it on my desktop and used it extensively. Three months ago, I had my old computer stolen from my car. I tried to download my disk but the case which had the serial information printed on it is lost. Plus, I have changed jobs twice since I first installed it and my email address is new. What, if anything can I do?

First, this is a user to user forum; no Adobe personnel is asigned to answer questions here and so you cannot expect instant answers. Second, you can try your luck here: Find your serial number quickly. Third, if you happen to be lucky in recovering your serial number, I very much doubt that you can successfully install such an old program under any modern OS (and it is simply impossible to install it under any Mac OS not capable of running in Classic mode).

  • Lost iweb project

My harddrive crashed and I lost the iweb program.
I still have the homepage files saved and now I got a new iweb but my settings are gone.
Is it possible to recreate the site from the files or from the homepage?
Or do I have to re do it?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You can use some of the files from the published site to help you rebuild the new one. Like photos, graphics, etc. See Paragraph 2.3 of this page for some tips: http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebBackupretrieve.html

  • Lost iweb files, can I reload them ?

I lost all my iweb files from my hard drive. I did however have them stored on my web server and my web sites were thus unaffected. I have decided I want to update one of the sites. I have opened iweb but cant figure out how to get the previous saved web site up to edit. I have downloaded the exact same folder I had stored on my server to my desktop.
Is there a way to bring my old site up to edit ?

Paragraph 2.3 of this FAQ page gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:
    http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebBackupretrieve.html
...Only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb.
You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.
    Other backup options are:

  • Lost iWeb domain

    Hi,
My HD went bad and I lost the domain for my iWeb site. The site is posted to my .Mac (MobileMe) site. Is there any way to bring the files from there back to iWeb?
    Thanks,
    Ray

    ...time to redo the work.
Ray ~ And to avoid re-doing your work yet again in the future, you could use the free SuperDuper! to regularly create a bootable clone of your entire internal HD on an external drive:
    http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper
...then if your internal HD fails, you re-boot with the Option key held down. Your Mac will start into Startup Manager, where you can use the arrow keys to select a Mac OS X volume to start from, i.e. your bootable clone from SuperDuper!. Besides the advantage of not losing any valuable data, you can continue working and use Disk Utility app in Applications > Utilities to diagnose the problem.

  • Lost iWeb pages on my computer

I published some pages with iWeb last year (before 08). I can see the pages when I go the the URL also from mobile me - BUT I have lost the ability to access that I can see from my laptop (I wanted to access so that I can delete the pages).
    Can anyone help me out?

You can delete the pages directly from your iDisk > Web folder > Sites folder via this page:
    http://me.com/idisk
...But if you want to do more than delete pages, you'll need iWeb's Domain file normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb.

  • Lost iWeb Site

Unfortunately last week I lost my entire HD. My website which is run via MobileMe is still functioning however the iWeb app no longer carries the site in it. All of the html pages are stored on my iDisk and I was wondering if there was any way to get the files back into iWeb so I don't have to build it all over again... Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

No, not unless you made a backup of your Domain file (normally found in Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb).

  • Lost iWeb Site .... need to import current site!

    HI
My iWeb site info was lost after a destroyed computer incident.
I didn't know about the domain file that should be backed up ... I do now... but I am left with a .Mac web site that I can't edit or import.
    What should I do?
Are there products that can import the site? Maybe I can continue using a different editor?
Is there a way to add new pages to my site ... to at least link to a new site? Or is my current site now frozen in time?
    Thanks for any advice
    Lee

Ok to rant now and then; we all have at one time or another!
Maybe this will help: understand that iWeb doesn't operate like other web apps, in the sense that it does not write html as it creates. It takes the data you place in it and then converts all of it into html when you click the Publish button. In other words, iWeb does the Save As for you when it generates the html necessary for the web.
I save frequently as I work in iWeb. If you have spent hours working with the application and you have created a substantial portion of a site, it is a very good idea to stop, make a duplicate copy of the Domain file, and place it in it's own folder, in another location. There is a free automator application available here which makes this process very quick and easy.
Get used to backing up that Domain file frequently. While it doesn't happen that often, there are posts in the forums about the inability to even save your work after hours of labor in the app. If you have duplicated your Domain file incrementally as you work, you will avoid the perils of this situation.
