Lost iWeb text

HELP. I have lost my iWeb text tonight. Is there any way to restore? I have regularly Time Machine backup

If you mean that the text has gone missing in the iWeb application you can go into Time Machine and get an earlier version of the Domain.sites2 file....

Look further down the above page for info about finding the library folder and launching domain files under Lion.

I've lost iWeb and thus my web design.  I must start from scratch.  Should I reinstall iWeb 09 and use that, or is there a better way?

The file you really need is named Domain.sites2 which resides in your   Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb foldler.  It's independent from the iWeb application. If it's not in there do you have a backup of your hard drive from an earlier time?
Resinatll iWeb 3 from the iLife 09 disk or wherever you got it from originally and then try what's described below:
In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • Lost iWeb

    Hi
I have completely lost iWeb from my Mac for some reason. Is there anyway that i can re-install iWeb either from the OS Installation disc or, from a separate iWeb i had purchased previously without causing damage or grief to all other programs?

The last Full back up the time machine did was a couple months ago. I have been having trouble with it. I did manage to find an older version of a "Domain.sites2" and that did open an iweb from that time so not all is lost. Thank you. One more question thou, I have all the backed up files (except the .site file because while in iWeb I not only published to .mac but published to a folder on the external hard drive. I brought those files over and when click on each index page it works great. Can't I write a .site to connect those pages to iweb if not how do I cut and paste the many pages as you suggest?
Why does iWeb give you the option to publish to a folder? What other things would you use this for?
    Thanks again for the help

  • Lost WP Text = Recovery Possible?

I've lost text in an AppleWorks Word Processing file. Here's what happened:
I opened a new file, gave it a name, and saved it to my desktop.
I wrote and perodically saved my work from the keyboard using Command-S.
While the document was open, I then changed the file name by clicking on the desktop icon and typing a new name.
Clicking back in the document I saw the new name replace the old one and continued typing.
I typed several thousand words saving as I went along.
I then quit and shut down my computer.
Several hours later I started the computer and double clicked on the desktop icon.
The file opened to the place where I made the name change. The added text, after the name change, was gone.
    Is this text recoverable?
All this work was done on an iBook G3 running MacOS 10.4.6, AppleWorks version 6.2.7

You did one of two things while this file was open in AppleWorks, renamed the file in the Finder or moved the File in the Finder, that will "break" AppleWorks' connection to the file. Unless you had a program running in the background that records keyboard input, I'm afraid your work is lost & you will have to re-do it. There are two user tips dealing with this:
Dale Gillard - Document content not saved
Vic Menard - AppleWorks fails to save properly

  • Iweb text as image -- help!!!

I can't understand... I used the black template and I had two different behaviors:
in the "about me" page the text box on the left after the publishing has been exported as image (keeping the hyperlinks) while all other pages every text box has been published as a TEXT BOX!! How can I set Iweb to export EVERY TEXT BOX as image???
    Please, it's driving me crazy!!
    thanks

There's a simple workaround to this problem which also drove me nuts. On version 1.1.1 at least the problem is with the templates. Don't put your main text into the boxes provided - use this as a title box or leave it blank (it seems to need to have something in it as you can't get rid of the box itself although you can shrink it down). Create a new text box and paste your text into it and it should render as text- it did on mine. Don't forget to use a single, web friendly, simple font as other contributers have suggested.
Check the pages in the personal development section of my site -
    www.thecontinuum.org.uk
Strangely the first page just wouldn't do the same thing without goofing up the rest of the page- putting hyperlinks in thwrong place etc. I left it as image in the end- if anyone knows what's going on there then let us know.

  • Iweb text hyperlinks not working

ive used iweb to upload my bands website and am not a serious web developer so it worked great but i cant figure out why the hyperlinks i used on the text go straight to the apple site and the ones i used on the buttons and images i made work fine but the text links dont  if somebody knows whats up with that and has a minute the site is at audioresistance.net

When you create a hyperlink the default URL is an Apple one.  Reselect the text and go to the Inspector/Hyperlink/Hyperlink pane and reenter the url you want to use:
Then check the Makc hyiperlinks active box and test the link before going on to the next link.

  • Lost iweb project

My harddrive crashed and I lost the iweb program.
I still have the homepage files saved and now I got a new iweb but my settings are gone.
Is it possible to recreate the site from the files or from the homepage?
Or do I have to re do it?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You can use some of the files from the published site to help you rebuild the new one. Like photos, graphics, etc. See Paragraph 2.3 of this page for some tips: http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebBackupretrieve.html

  • Lost iweb files, can I reload them ?

I lost all my iweb files from my hard drive. I did however have them stored on my web server and my web sites were thus unaffected. I have decided I want to update one of the sites. I have opened iweb but cant figure out how to get the previous saved web site up to edit. I have downloaded the exact same folder I had stored on my server to my desktop.
Is there a way to bring my old site up to edit ?

Paragraph 2.3 of this FAQ page gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:
    http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebBackupretrieve.html
...Only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb.
You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.
    Other backup options are:

  • Lost iWeb domain

    Hi,
My HD went bad and I lost the domain for my iWeb site. The site is posted to my .Mac (MobileMe) site. Is there any way to bring the files from there back to iWeb?
    Thanks,
    Ray

    ...time to redo the work.
Ray ~ And to avoid re-doing your work yet again in the future, you could use the free SuperDuper! to regularly create a bootable clone of your entire internal HD on an external drive:
    http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper
...then if your internal HD fails, you re-boot with the Option key held down. Your Mac will start into Startup Manager, where you can use the arrow keys to select a Mac OS X volume to start from, i.e. your bootable clone from SuperDuper!. Besides the advantage of not losing any valuable data, you can continue working and use Disk Utility app in Applications > Utilities to diagnose the problem.

  • Lost iWeb pages on my computer

I published some pages with iWeb last year (before 08). I can see the pages when I go the the URL also from mobile me - BUT I have lost the ability to access that I can see from my laptop (I wanted to access so that I can delete the pages).
    Can anyone help me out?

You can delete the pages directly from your iDisk > Web folder > Sites folder via this page:
    http://me.com/idisk
...But if you want to do more than delete pages, you'll need iWeb's Domain file normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb.

  • Lost iWeb pages

while publishing to a folder, i got an "unknown error" in iWeb. When i rebooted iWeb, several of my pages were blank, while several remained intact. the blank pages won't allow me to add any text, images, or anything else to them and can't be duplicated. In the inspector, i can select "display navigation menu" but nothing happens and as soon as i leave that page and return, it is unselected.
i can upload undamaged pages from my website, but is there any way to have iWeb recognize those pages, or am i doomed to have to recreate them all manual?
i have deleted the iWeb prefs and cache, and run disk utility, all to no avail.
    thanks for any advice.

I am having the same problems. Only even when I create an new page within iWeb, those new pages come up empty when exiting and reopening iweb. The theme remains, but all text is gone.
On old pages, when I add text, the old text remains, but the new is gone!
These are not complex pages. No pictures. Just text.
I have tried the typical fix permissions, trash prefs, etc.
This problem has been coupled with font substitution within iWeb. It says that Arial MT has been replaced with Arial MS.

  • Lost iWeb Site

Unfortunately last week I lost my entire HD. My website which is run via MobileMe is still functioning however the iWeb app no longer carries the site in it. All of the html pages are stored on my iDisk and I was wondering if there was any way to get the files back into iWeb so I don't have to build it all over again... Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

No, not unless you made a backup of your Domain file (normally found in Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb).

  • Lost iWeb Site .... need to import current site!

    HI
My iWeb site info was lost after a destroyed computer incident.
I didn't know about the domain file that should be backed up ... I do now... but I am left with a .Mac web site that I can't edit or import.
    What should I do?
Are there products that can import the site? Maybe I can continue using a different editor?
Is there a way to add new pages to my site ... to at least link to a new site? Or is my current site now frozen in time?
    Thanks for any advice
    Lee

Ok to rant now and then; we all have at one time or another!
Maybe this will help: understand that iWeb doesn't operate like other web apps, in the sense that it does not write html as it creates. It takes the data you place in it and then converts all of it into html when you click the Publish button. In other words, iWeb does the Save As for you when it generates the html necessary for the web.
I save frequently as I work in iWeb. If you have spent hours working with the application and you have created a substantial portion of a site, it is a very good idea to stop, make a duplicate copy of the Domain file, and place it in it's own folder, in another location. There is a free automator application available here which makes this process very quick and easy.
Get used to backing up that Domain file frequently. While it doesn't happen that often, there are posts in the forums about the inability to even save your work after hours of labor in the app. If you have duplicated your Domain file incrementally as you work, you will avoid the perils of this situation.
