Lost January Update on preowned Touch

I bought a used Touch on ebay and was told it had the January update on it. It is not there. What can I do to recover the lost update. The seller has recently assured me the update was purchased but may have been lost when she deleted files. Any ideas?

Hi albourrie,
She will have to send you the "iPod touch App Pack 4A93.ipa" file, as well as her iTunes account information (Apple ID and password).
If you can't get this data, I would recommend you to wait until June, because we will have to pay for the 2.0 Upgrade (if you're interested in), which also include the current features.
Hope this helps!

  • I've formatted my PC, Restored my Touch and now I've lost January Update!!

    Hi All,
I bought the January software update on the day of release, and it's worked very nicely thanks Apple. However, since then I've formatted and re-installed my PC due to prolonged problems with 64-bit iTunes on RAID. I've also restored my iPod Touch to factory status because the aforementioned problems had caused a large portion of the iPod's capacity to become unavailable. Everything's now working perfectly, except I've lost the January update on the iPod, so I'm back to square 1.
This is probably as much an iTunes question. How do I get the software update back onto my iPod without buying it again?
    Thanks.

Likewise on my Mac. Everything was peachy and I was extremely happy using the new apps until I had to reset my iPod Touch to factory setting. I synced and got everything back but the Jan. Software Update. Going to iTunes and my purchase history to report a problem didn't do anything it seemed, but flag it. Anybody else out there who has been able to retrieve their purchased January Software update back onto their iPod Touch and using Leopard? Please include instructions on reply, could be I'm doing something wrong. Apple support instructions on troubleshooting this issue is sketching at best and no help whatsoever.

  • Lost January Update and I am Pi$$ed

After reading the horror stories about the version 2 update, I elected not to update. I received the prompt then to update to 1.15 which I did. Shortly after I did, all of my files on the Ipod were transferred due to some kind of a glitch to "other", and as a result things such as music were not accessible on the Ipod....
So.... stupid me, I restore the Ipod. And in the process, the January Update is now lost and was not reinstalled on my Ipod and no longer appears in the software version on the Itunes summary....
Now what really has me pi$$ed is that I had a number of important items stored in notes.... and when the January Update vanished, so did my notes.
Now what do I do other than steam....
How could anyone consider this crappy little device as a plausable replacment to a Personal Organizer when your next sync could be the end of your data. A note pad and pencil is more reliable.

Since last night I have installed 2.0.2 and it is working and it also kept all of my old data which is a relief....
However I am still angered as I bought and paid for the update in January. Apple accepted my payment without hesitation, then because they stopped offering or supporting the upgrade, I am up the creek without a paddle? Don't even if they opt not to sell it anymore, shouldn't they offer support to those who originally bought it for a reasonable length of time?
If I buy a car and decide to have the radio upgraded, then two months later the car company stops offering that model of radio, does that mean if my radio quits it is reasonable to accept that the car company can just leave me high and dry? I think not, but only my opinion.

  • Lost January Software Update, how do I get it back?

Hey ya'll, im new to apple and its products, only be an apple user for 7 months, and am still planning on getting the new iPhone and Macbook Air when I get more money, lol. But, for now, only product i have is iPod Touch, and I just had this problem happen to me and dont know how to fix it. I just scrolled it from an email i sent to their support. Hope you guys can help me fix it.
    Thanks
"Hello. I am really confused now, so Ill just get right to it. Last night, when I hooked up my iPod Touch to my computer, my computer first recgnized it, however, when I went to my iPod no movies or no songs were on there. I unpluged it, pluged it back in. Then it says your iPod cannot be recognized, and so I had to format my entire iPod Touch, losing all my settings, and the 2008 January Software Update that I paid $19.99 for. So then, I go back into my iTunes account, after restoring it, and re-syncing all my songs and videos back to the iPod, and it says that I never paid for the January Update ($19.99), which I did, and 3 Metallica songs ($0.99/ea) that I purchased that same day. So then I go and try to put my credit info back on, to "pay" it off again, and it wouldnt let me, and said something about enter a vaild security code, which i did (the 3 numbers on back of credit card at the end in a box), numerous times. I would like to know how do I get my january oftware Upgrade back, as well as my 3 songs I purchased in January 2008."

First, see if the update is gone, or not being utilized:
The iPod touch January Software Upgrade can only be synced to iPod touch from the primary iTunes library. If the user is manually managing music and video on iPod, this is the computer where they first set up the iPod or first set it up after restoring the iPod. The "iPod touch App Pack 4A93.ipa" file can be copied from the computer where you purchased it to your primary iTunes library computer, and sync the iPod from there.
    The file is located here:
    Mac OS X:
    ~/Library/iTunes/Mobile Applications
    Windows XP
    C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\Mobile Applications\
    Windows Vista:
    C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\\Apple Computer\iTunes\Mobile Applications\
Note: These locations are hidden by default in Windows. You can these locations by choosing "Show hidden files and folder" in the View tab of the Folder Options Control Panel.
Now, if you can't get this to install, you can try to set your Touch to automatically sync instead of manually sync.
If that doesn't do it, login to your iTunes store account within iTunes, goto your account, and select "report problem"
They should be able to help you with the downloads and the update from there.

  • While I was updating my ipod touch there was an error and it said my ipod needed to be restored so I did that but I seemed to have lost all the photos I had on my ipod.  Is there anyway to get them back?

While I was updating my ipod touch there was an error and it said I needed to restore my ipod.  I restored it from backup but I seem to have lost all my pictures that I had stored on there.  Is there any way to get them back?

    - Try restoring from a backup that include the photos. See the restore topic of:
    iOS: How to back up
    - If you use PhotoStream you should be able to get the last 30 days worth from your PhotoStream. See:

  • New iPod Touch with January Update Restore Question

    Hi,
Few days ago i bought new iPod Touch with 1.1.3 software and January Update.
When I restore it I'll lose my January Update programs ? And if that happened what can I do to get them back ?
PS. Sorry for my poor english :P
    Cheers

It was mentioned already in this thread. If you look at the package check the seriel number. If it ends with /B then that is the new model and it has the new applications that were provided in the Jaunary update already programmed into the iPod. If you restore you will not lose them.
If it ends with /A then it is an older model that required the January Update in order to get the applications on your iPod. If you restore then you will lose them but you don't need to purchase them again as your iTunes will keep track of the purchase for you.

  • Ipod touch and january update help.

    hi
i just reinstalled windows xp in my computer and i didnt back up the january updates from my itunes folder. when i synced my ipod after the reinstall it said i had to restore the ipod and after that the jan updates were gone.
someone at the apple store suggested going into itunes store and making sure i could see that i had purchased the jan updates and then scncing the ipod which i did...still didnt work.
can anyone help. the updates no longer exsist on my machine so i was hoping i could download them again without having to pay the $24.99 again or even waiting for the july 11 updates.
    help...please

If you didn't back up the "iPod touch App Pack 4A93.ipa" file before you reinstalled your OS, your apps are gone, for now. It's an iTunes Store purchase, just like any music/videos purchased, and if not backed up, it's gone if you lose/wipe your HDD.
Apple has removed the January Upgrade from the iTunes store, so spending the $19.99 to get it back is not even possible.
Your best bet at this point is to wait for the July Upgrade (coming July 11th).
    Hope this helps...

  • IPod Touch and January Update

can anybody help me here is my issue.
Okay so I bought the January update for my iPod touch when it came out in January and a couple weeks ago I had to reinstall windows on my computer. I then had to restore my iPod Touch cause it went all screwy and now it no longer has the January update on it. I read one of the articles that apple posted but they said that it has to be on the exact user account and computer that you purchased the update from. Considering I reloaded windows, its like I got a new computer and don't have the same user account. Can someone help me get the update back

Yeah, those are the first places I would have looked. The data isn't stored in the iTunes library, so even someone who was conscientious enough to back up their iTunes library before reinstalling the OS or moving to a new computer could likely lose that data. Even though it seems (for now) that Apple is more than willingly reauthorizing the downloads, their long history of "back it up or lose it" regarding iTunes purchases makes me wary of the longevity of this solution when, down the line, folks start getting new computers and many more find their iPods are not updating.
Jason: I would like to offer a suggestion if you check back on this thread. Either that data should be in a more obvious place (I know it's the same place as other iPod updates are stored, but I didn't pay for those!) so a user doesn't delete it or at least better instructions should be released in a more conspicuous place. I tried a search of "iPod Touch update move to new computer" and got zero results. Maybe introduce the location with the next go-round? Maybe an entry in notes or an alarm in calendar? I don't know. It just seems less than efficient to have to go begging for a re-download. Especially from Apple. Not very elegant.

If you get a network timed out error, try disabling the security software on the computer during the download and install.
You can also try a direct download andinstall by:

  • I updated my iPod touch 4g to ios 5, i kept all of my apps but lost my progress on them. How do i get my progress back?

I updated my iPod touch 4g to ios 5, i kept all of my apps but lost my progress on them. How can i, if possible, get my progress back?

You need to restore from backup. The backup contains app data like game progress.  Make sure that autosyncing is turned off otherwise whe yu connect iTunes will make a back that does not contain the data.  To to that go to iTunes>Preferneces>Devices and check the box that says Prevent iPods....syncing.
Yu can alsolook at the date/time of the backup on that screen and see if it might contain the data.

  • I updated my ipod touch 4th gen to ios 5 and lost all my photos. how can i get it back? i'm using windows 7.

I updated my ipod touch 4th gen to ios 5 and lost all my photos. how can i get it back? i'm using windows 7. help please? thanks!

    This was the scenario:
The first time I updated, it was only my music that was lost.
When I got my music back, I lost my apps.
When I got my apps back, my contacts, notes and photos were lost.
Now I got back everything except for my photos.
(Yes, I restored from backup several times since the first update.)
Do you think if I try restoring from back up, my photos that were taken from my ipod will be restored finally?
    Thank you.

  • Just bought an iPod Touch without january updates

    Hi,
Two days ago, I bought an iPod Touch 8GB in the Apple Store of the 5th avenue. I asked if the firmware included the january updates and the Apple salesman told me all iPods were up to date.
Unfortunately, this was wrong. I paid full price for an iPod Touch without the updates, and I can't find any link to customer assistance for such an issue on apple.com. Since I already left NY, I can't go to an Apple Store, too.
Anybody knows what to do? I find it really amazing that 1 month after the updates, such a problem can occur.
    Thanks

    Hello,
Try giving AppleCare in France a call and explain the situation. Keep calm and ask if it's possible that you send in proof of purchase in return for credit on your iTunes account for the difference:

My iTunes Library is on my computer, I have done a backup manually, and all of my music is on an external hard drive (as well as my iTunes library).

Thanks a lot Recycle bin is empty, I will move some files from the C drive to an external hard drive, then do the update, and then move the files back. Any files you recommend not moving to the external hard drive at all?
