Lost keyboard letter
Where can I get a replacement for a lost letter from my keyboard? We were cleaning it and one of my students lost the W, a pretty important letter! Thanks in advance
Just about every school, office, or lab I've ever seen, along with most people who've had computers longer than 2 years or so, has an old keyboard or two (or five or ten) lying around somewhere, unused, and they likely would be perfectly happy to let you swipe a needed key cap or two. A donor keyboard doesn't necessarily have to be a late-model Apple USB white-colored keyboard, either; most keyboards are pretty generic, especially the key caps. If a possible replacement keycap is about the right size and the post hole on the underside of the kay fits the post on the keyboard, use that.
(I wike, er, like Ian's response better than this one; it amounts to the same --- swipe one from someone who doesn't need it.)

Problem with keyboard letter 'N'! PLEASE HELP?!?
Hi there!
I have this problem... my letter 'N' doesn't work... when i press it, it's like i pressed the cmd button and letter 'n' wich it opens a new finder window!
I started to think it was the keyboard it was faulty, but then i installed windows 7 with bootcamp and it worked with no problem in windows...
When the computer starts, if i clean nvram (cmd, option,V,N) it looks like it works too, because it cleans...
Anyone had the same problem? Please? This is the Acrobat forum, not the Reader forum. You should check the reader forum. In the meantime, if you are not running AR9.3 or so, you should update. Prior versions before 9 are not designed for Win7 and that might be your issue -- you gave no indication of version.

I recently installed Snow Leopard and have lost the keyboard shortcuts in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop (CS5).
I tried adding them in System Preferences>Keyboard>Keyboard Shortcuts, but it says I can't add them.
I had them before I updated to Snow Leopard and other computers in our office running the same OS and apps have them.
Any idea how to bring them back??
Thanks! Rick BHi DanboZ,
Glad to her that this did the trick.
Sometimes the easiest things to try first are the effective ones.

Panel problem: Lost keyboard focus in Photoshop on Mac OSX
Some background: I making a plugin that consists of some photoshop scripts and a panel created in Adobe Configurator. Basically the panel has some buttons which executes some functions in the script. The plugin is described in greater detail and can be downloaded here http://lumens.se/tychpanel
The problem: To reproduce the problem, do the following:
Give the panel focus by clicking somewhere on it.
Switch to another application, then back to Photoshop. Keyboard focus is lost.
Any ideas why this happens, and what to do about it?
Note: this is somewhat of a cross-post started at http://www.ps-scripts.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4021&sid=d3c3d77dd128984f8ee30252f0f4cf2a however, as I think it's more of a Configurator / Panel issue rather than a scripting issue I'm now asking here as well.many and different problems around photoshop keyboard,
also when a panel is not involved, as you can see here

Have you updated to the latest osx version?
if not try 10.6.7 that could solve some problem with the keyboard
http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2011/03/mac-10-6-7-fixes-photoshop-cs5-conflicts.html
other suggestions could be :
- duplicate the default photoshop keyboard and create a new workspace
or
- try creating a new user account and test there -
OSX 10.10.3 connection bluetooth lost keyboard/mouse
Hi everyone!
After upgrading to OS X 10.10.3 my magic mouse and keyboard starts to lost the bluetooth connection.
Apparently, it looks like the connection is turn off when I'm not using the mouse or the keyboard. When moving the mouse or pressing any key the bluetooth reconnect automatically. But, the time to connect is high.
I already did a reset of the PRAM but the bluetooth keep disconnecting.
Is someone else with this same problem?
How can I fix this?
Thanks in advance.Hi Atul Kapadia-

hey
the letter "I" on my macbook pro's keyboard keeps breaking off every now and again, the only way i can get it back on is to click it back into place but it's breaking off more and more often. Does anyone know where i can get a replacement letter? I've only seen one place and it was in the US and was gonna cost around £5 without p&p. Does anyone know of a place in the UK or Europe?
Thanks
CraigMy 'M' key broke off, and the local store (UK) said they would send it to their engineers and get it fixed for free. I really couldn't be bothered taking it down to the store, waiting a few days, then picking it up etc. and being without my laptop....
So I used the common sense approach and asked the manager to post it to me... which he was quite happy to do... and I followed the many internet guides and popped it back on!
much easier - and it works too, look: MMMMMMMMMM -
Keyboard letter "l" not working
My letter l isn't working. All the other keys on the keyboard work. How can I fix this?
Fist rule out hardware by logging into another account and seeing if it works. If it does not then download the widget called "Option/Alt" at:
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/29263&vid=288618
It will show if the key is being recognized. It will present a keyboard display that you can see the I key blacken if it is recognized. You can also click this virtual keyboard to see if you can type a key that way or if there is something in software not allowing a particular letter to be typed. -
Keyboard letter/number keys not working; Function keys OK
The function keys on my Bluetooth AND USB keyboard work, but none of the letters or numbers work, so I can't log-in in the appropriate field. I can move the icon with the mouse, (Bluetooth or USB) I've tried 2 keyboards, one USB the other Bluetooth, but I can't get past the log-in screen cos the letters & numbers don't respond. I can adjust the brightness using F1 & F2, and I can adjust the volume with F11 & F12.
Luckily I have this MacBook Air!
It started off as a hardware issue where I couldn't even start up. Also I can't get a hardware test to run to completion (you know, switch on whilst pressing D). Strange that the D key works for this! Also it seems Option/Command/R/P sometimes works for a reset paramter RAM (PRAM); (sounds like a baby should be in there! ;-)). So the R & P work at Startup; therefore plus D key, but beyond, nothing. My log-in includes lower case r or d.
Beyond that letters/numbers do not work.
I have since tried a Safe Boot where you press the Shift key as soon as the start-up sound is heard. And since then I've not even got to the log-in screen! What's going on? It's like there's a 2013 phenomenon.
Any ideas anyone?
JonathanDo 2-3 SMC resets, doing just one does not always work. If the resets fail then try another keyboard and if those keys work then you know the original keyboard needs to be replaced. Follow the directions in:

Lost keyboard shortcut for render
In the last two Premire Elements 10 projects I have started, the keyboard shortcut for rendering (return) is no longer operational. In the Keyboard Customization menu, this choice is grayed out and I can't select it.
Any shortcuts for fixing this? Do I have to re-install the program? My Premire came in a package with Photoshop, and I suspect I will have to re-install Photoshop also, which I would like to avoid -seems to be asking for trouble!
Thank you
Also, the Render command does not work even when I choose it from the drop down menu. And I have a Mac running OS 10.Is the light gray Work Area Bar along the top of the timeline over your entire project? Only clips under the Work Area Bar will be rendered.
Can you post a screen capture of your timeline to this forum? -

Lost keyboard keycodes.
Some hours ago I tried to lower the volume with the keyboards dedicated key. It didn't work. I was working seconds ago.
I tried xbindkeys -k:
Press combination of keys or/and click under the window.
You can use one of the two lines after "NoCommand"
in $HOME/.xbindkeysrc to bind a key.
"(Scheme function)"
m:0x0 + c:176
NoSymbol
It used to be FX86AudioRaiseVolume.
Actually all multimedia keys stopped working. Every one produces NoSymbol.

I didn't install something. Just stopped working. Any ideas?Looking at your xmodmap output, I don't see any keys that are bound to the various multimedia actions.
Try determining the keycodes (of each multimedia key) via "xev" and then bind them to the relevant action (XF86AudioLowerVolume, XF86AudioRaiseVolume,...) via xmodmap. -

Will a USB Keyboard let me enter the BIOS?
Hi guys,
I am looking to buy a wireless keyboard/mouse from Microsoft and I have a couple questions for you guys:
I have the option to use PS/2 connections for both the mouse and the keyboard OR just one USB connection for both. Since I want the mouse to use a USB connection for higher refresh rates, I have to use the USB connection for the keyboard as well.
1. If i have a USB keyboard, will I be able to enter the BIOS? I am thinking NO because USB devices are loaded when windows xp loads.
2. Does anybody know if it really makes a difference to use USB vs. PS/2 for the mouse? (for gaming purposes)
Thanks again.FWIW I have a CoolerMaster alloy USB keyboard and while it works fine with XP Pro (SP1a), BIOS does not detect it so I have to keep a PS/2 keyboard around for when I need to play with the BIOS.
I've tried pluging it in to the front ports, back ports and via the self powered hub on my display with no success. Maybe a later BIOS (I use 1.9) for the 865PE Neo2-FIS2R will fix things.
Unfortunately, CoolerMaster do not supply a USB-PS/2 adapter unlike every other keyboard manufacturer I've seen and these are very difficult to find as separately purchasable items. So I am stuck with keeping the spare PS/2 keyboard around.
Anyone know if the same problem exists on other motherboards, especially with the AMI BIOS, or is this just an MSI issue?
Update
Just tried installing SUSE 9 Linix on this machine and it hangs when probing USB/loading the uhci-hcd module. I now suspect the 82801 EB USB controller, the MSI implementation or both are faulty in some way but I'll wait for SUSE's reply on this problem.
With all the problems USB seems to cause I don't think the world is quite ready for legacy free PC's yet
Update 040120
Turns out the problem with Linux was because I had "Legacy USB" enabled in BIOS, no problems at all after disabling it.
