Lost keystrokes on console -- seems to be Slim related

I am never fully content with my system. I had moved from kdm and mostly KDE4 and have been playing with Slim with xfce4 and Awesome.
When I need root access, I tend to pop over to vt1 (console) and login in there as root.
Last night, I had a hard time logging in as root. I noticed that when I typed root, it wold come out as rot, oot, or maybe, roo.
With some persistence, I got through the login process. Once logged in, it seems the system missed around 1 in 3 keystrokes. firing up htop showed about 5% cpu usage with mpd playing audio. I was logged into xfce4 as a user on vt7. Slim occasionally popped to the top of the cpu usage list.
terminal sessions in xfce4 worked perfectly (no dropped keystrokes)
For fun, I edited inittab to use kdm for run level 5 instead of slim. Rebooted. Logged into xfce4. poped over to vt1. No problems.
Aside from the observations above, I am curious as to why slim was using processor time at all when there were no log in screens active.

Don't forget to post back anything you find. It seems like the other thread just died off without resolution so it might be a good idea to continue it here.
I also use SLiM but with the open source nouveau and the proprietary Catalyst (on notebook and desktop respectively). My laptop has a hybrid graphics setup with an Intel and an Nvidia G210m so I might try switching over to xf86-video-intel later to see if I experience the same issue.

Lost keystroke

Hi,
I have a nasty lost keystroke problem in a JList. I was hoping someone may have some suggestions. Here is the problem.
I have a form with a JList. In some cases I need to transfer focus to the list after popping up a custom validation window in the prior field. When I do this I am able to successfully set the focus to the list (I get a focus gained event) but if I start doing any typing the very fist keystroke is lost.
If I transfer focus to the list without popping up the Validation Win I do not get this problem. What is not making any sense is that the list is receiving the focusGained event and I've even tested that the KeyboardFocusManager.currentFocusedObject is also the same component - which it is.
Any suggestions.

I've added a KeyListener to the JList and can see that when this problem is occuring I am not receiving a KeyEvent. I have implemented a KeyEventDispatcher and that is receiving and dispatching the event - somehow its not making it to the JList.
Any suggestions welcome.

[SOLVED] Lost my text console

After the last full upgrade yesterday, something odd has happened to my console. I don't use any kind of gdm; I boot (with nomdeset) to a text-only console and then run startx if/when I'm ready for GUI stuff. When I want a larger, full-screen font or just avoid the clutter of a desktop, I'll ctrl-alt-F{x} to a non-GUI console. When I'm ready to reboot, I quit out of fluxbox and do so.
All of a sudden, once I start xorg the text consoles are gone. ctrl-alt-F1 takes me to a blank screen; if I exit out of xorg entirely there are no visible consoles anywhere and I have to blindly ctrl-alt-del to reboot. It's not a crippling problem -- I can do whatever I want through xterm -- but it's annoying.
graphics card is an onboard Radeon 6530; using the arch implementation of the catalyst driver (catalyst-hook). Has anyone else seen this happen?

Ah, found the answer over in the Catalyst thread of the bar&grill forum:
I got workaround from one of the bug reports in the unofficial site : just pass vga=... (say vga=792 ) to kernel from grub
This fixed it for me

Lost Languages in Console

I've created a repository with two languages, but after I've defined the tables and fields the translation in the second language (at the field name) is no longer visible in the Console. Sometimes when I log out and log on in the repository the translation in the second language is a short time visible.
We use MDM 5.5 SP 5.

My documents on pages have been deleted from my ipad. I have logged into icloud from a windows computer and can see all my lost documents, but cant seem to get them back on my ipad. HELP!

I opened up my pages app and the document i needed opened up automatically, i turned away from my ipad to log onto my computer only to find when i look back at my ipad that ALL my documents have been deleted!! It is very important i get these back as i have an assignment to hand in tomorrow and ALL my revision is on their for my exam in 4 days time. please please please help me get my documents back onto my ipad? My Facebook has lost its CSS, it seems. The homepage - and all others - are now lists of subsections in Times down the left side of the screen.

WoW + Wine crashes, seems to be sound related

I've been trying to get Wow to run in Wine, and I'm running into a few problems. I'm using the latest nVidia drivers, wine-git from the AUR, and WoW is all patched up. I boot into WoW and it seems to work fine for a few minutes. Then, all of a sudden, it will crash. It seems to crash right after Amarok changes songs. I have Amarok playing through Pulseaudio, and I've tried WoW with both Pulseaudio+OSS Wine drivers and just straight ALSA Wine drivers.

EDIT: I also noticed that it seemed to happen after I pushed down my Push to Talk button in Mangler.

Preview seems having problem with relative link with PDF documents

I have a PDF file which I've added relative hyperlinks to it (to an html file). I did it with Adobe Acrobat 7.0 (for Windows). I have a link which is a custom action: Open a web link. The link is defined as "../presentation/referencesechelon8.html". I need relative link because the entire web site can be deployed on a DVD instead of on a Web server.
On Windows with Firefox or IE everything is working flawlessly. On the Mac side, it's working with Safari since it's using Adobe Reader to read the PDF. However, with other browsers using Mac built-in PDF viewer, Preview 3, it is not working at all. In the pdf document Preview 3 is unable to reconstruct the original url from the relative link. Instead it points to http://../presentation/referencesechelon8.html which is not correct.
Does anyone have an idea? I've googled a lot and did not find anything. My next try will be to use a Javascript to reconstruct the url.

Lost signal today, hasnt come back (not antenna related)

Hi I noticed on my drive home today that I had no signal, I usually make phone calls on my way home and have signal normally the whole way. When arriving home I rebooted the phone to no avail (total 3 times) my wife also has an iphone and it has a full signal, I've posted a photo at

PS As of yet neither she nor I suffer from the "signal loss by touching the antenna issue"

The few times my cell service has gone down in my area...I just went in to my settings and disabled my 3G...and was able to get all my bars. This happened about 2 weeks ago and my son had to disable his 3G as well. This only happened to the iPhones in the house, my daughter had no problems with her LG Neon, but what made me realize there was a problem was when I noticed that her 3G icon was not showing. I called AT&T and was told that a tower in my area was being worked on. The next day, I turned my 3G back on and all was good. So disable your 3G for a little while and you should have a working phone. Turn on the 3G later or tomorrow when they get the problem in your area fixed.

Slim: want login root to console and user to xfce

Just got Arch installed and running for the first time a couple of days ago.
I got slim to log in to user and launch xfce ok.
I cannot seem to get slim to start a console on the same laptop. If I type console in slim it doesn't accept that. It will log in as root to xfce if I have that in root's .xinitrc, but I cannot seem to log in as root to console.

I more of less got this working like I want now. Instead of using console for login, I use root. I have the following for my .xinitrc file in root.

With this setup I can log in as user, but not console.
If I use the login command for slim in /etc/slim.conf: login_cmd exec /bin/sh /etc/X11/Xsession
I can login as console but not as a user straight to xfce4.
EDIT: Edited -geometry setting as it was extending beyond the deskop. Got previous setting from another forum post.

Creative Console lost on Vi

I am running Vista 32bit and it seems that after a recent Windows Update, I lost my Creative Console. There is still a link on my desktop but it says the shortcut is unable to find the program. When I try to reinstall, it says there are missing files and quits the install. Has anyone else had this problem or know what I can do? Thanks!

I have the same problem. I've just bought sound blaster audigy 2 ZS card after I wanted to improve creative inspire T7900 7. soundspeakers and I'm struggle to get the right driver. I've got XP2 SP2 op and the same mess. I can't get them work properly. I tryed many drivers included the latest updates,but still doesn't get on with it.

The error console, I clear it and 4 minutes later it has 100's of yellow, pink & blue message lines in it, without me making 100's of clicks or commands ?? .... Other than the error console filling up faster than a superman, it seems to be working fine.

This happens no matter where I am browsing, yahoo, google, mail or news. Clearing the console seems to help with the speed of FF after an hour or so of browsing, it slows down terribly and if not cleared and or shut down and relaunching FF, both actually, it is painfully slow, like dial-up.

If the same website is opening each time you launch a browser (Safari?) hold down the shift key as you launch to prevent previous pages from opening.
Have a look at your settings in Safari > Preferences. Especially General and Privacy.
Reset Safari to remove cookies and other stored data.
System Preferences > General
Have a look at your settings in System Preferences > Security & Privacy.

Having dowanloaded Yosemite, I find that I can' enlarge the print on the Help pages. The Command keystroke does n`t seem to work. Any body any ideas as to haw to do it in the new OS X ?

Command + T should definitely work.
Restart your Mac then try again.
If that doesn't help, a Safe Mode boot deletes some system caches that may help after an OS X upgrade.
Top left corner of your screen click the Apple  > Shut Down.
After your Mac shuts down, wait 10 seconds, then press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key. You should press the Shift key as soon as possible after you hear the startup tone, but not before.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator.
Once you are in Safe Mode, go back to the Apple  menu. From the drop down menu click: Restart
Then try enlarging the text in a Help window.

Slim Plus - patched and improved slim

When searching for DM (Display Manager) to replace KDM, I came across Slim. At its first run..... this is what I have been looking for. I tried earlier GDM, LXDM and other DMs presented in wiki.

In the present Slim version 1.3.1, there are things you want to add and get fixed. There are threads discussing about these problems and seemingly no longer maintained. The Slim concept, simplicity, and beauty make you wander why there is no continuation. I did search in AUR, and found Slim-plus: patched and improved slim.

I'm not sure about the welcome message, but for for the others are you entering 'halt' or 'reboot' in the username and then entering you root password?
I could never get the 'console' command working with slim, but switching to another tty was easier and possibly more useful.

Creative console launcher go

I seem to have lost the creative console launcher for my X-Fi card to start up into the taskbar on the bottom right side . How do I get it back there? I can open it from the taskbar but when I want to change modes I don't want to do all that.
