Lost keywords after upgrade to 3.4

I updated to v3.4 yesterday and just realized all my keywords are gone.
Any ideas on how to restore them?

Cornelia,
No, unfortunately it's not possible to only import metadata changes and not develop changes using import from catalog (AFAIK). The same is valid for reading XMP data from file. While importing from catalog, there is at least the option of keeping the the prior version as a virtual copy, which would enable you to synchronize the develop settings from the prior version after import from catalog has overwritten them.
This is the reason why I said it's important to develop a strategy on  how to do it before starting, and why it would be relevant to know the total  number of images in the catalog and the number of images changed since last backup.
My idea was to import the metadata for all the images that have not changed since the last backup, and just re-keyword whatever has been worked on since the last backup.

  • Lost 2GB after upgrading to mavericks

Seems that I need to ask Apple to credit part of my new MacBook AIR purchase !  I lost 2GB after upgrading to Mavericks.  Used to be at over 6GB of RAM after booting before running my apps, now I come to the same point at 4GB !!  Anyone else have the same issue.  I changed nothing else !

normal, RAM USE CHANGED in Mavericks to make it better
Mavericks is designed to use RAM differently for good reason. Normal
    http://appleinsider.com/articles/13/06/12/compressed-memory-in-os-x-109-maverick s-aims-to-free-ram-extend-battery-life
Mavericks uses RAM much more efficiently than any other previous version of OS X. Mavericks now has a memory compression feature that will compress the memory occupied by applications that aren't being actively used and give the freed up RAM to the application that needs it the most.
Memory Pressure graph that tells you how stressed is the system in terms of memory.

  • I2nd Gen Ipod touch lost songs after upgrading to IOS 4.2.1.

I have 2nd Gen Ipod touch and after upgrading to IOS 4.2.1, all the music were wiped out and I can't seem to upload or sync it anymore.  Tried all the fixes out there in the web to no avail.  Appreciate the help.

I am having the same problem.  I tried using a backup from two months ago, all of my music and apps are lost.  However, my iPod DOES remember my settings for the default apps, and my contacts are still there!  Tried any fix I could find to no avail, would certainly appreciate any advice!

  • Lost messages after upgrade to Tiger

After upgrading to Tiger I seem to have lost the messages in my main Inbox that were sent to my main email address. All the other mailboxes where I filtered mail to seem intact.
I backed up data to a separate firewire drive before I installed the new OS, including the Mail folder in Library... I can see the other mailboxes, but have not been able to locate the main Inbox or find and import the mail that is missing. Did Panther store it somewhere else??
I've looked at your support topics, but I'm still baffled.
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.x is broken. Take a look at the following thread to better understand the problem:
Help! "You need to take this account online in order to download it."
In particular, you may want to take a look at the following article (also referenced in that thread) to learn what you might have done before upgrading to minimize the risk of this happening, and what you may do after fixing the problem to avoid similar issues from happening in the future. DON’T do now what the article suggests, though, as that would make things worse in the current situation:
    Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty
More specifically, if this is a POP account, the following procedure should allow you to fix the Inbox problems:
    1. Quit Mail.
    2. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong while trying to fix the problem. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is stored.
    3. Create a new folder on the Desktop and name it however you wish (e.g. Inbox Old). It doesn’t need to have an .mbox extension.
    4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/.
    5. Move the files mbox and Incoming_Mail out of INBOX.mbox, into the Inbox Old folder just created on the Desktop. These files contain all the messages that were in the mailbox before the upgrade to Tiger, and maybe even some messages that had been deleted. mbox is the most important. Incoming_Mail may or may not be present.
    6. Move any strangely-named Messages-XXXXXX folder to the Desktop (not into the Inbox Old folder). These folders are to be deleted after fixing the problem. They are temporary folders created during an import or an indexing process, and Mail should have deleted them when done. Their presence is a clear indication that something didn’t work as expected. If you’ve been using Mail after the conversion and have already tried to fix the problem by rebuilding the mailbox or something like that, they might contain messages that are neither in Messages proper nor in the mbox file, so keep them around until the problem is fixed.
    7. Move everything else within INBOX.mbox, except the Messages folder, to the Trash.
The result of the above should be that INBOX.mbox contains the proper Messages folder only, and the Inbox Old folder on the Desktop contains the mbox and Incoming_Mail (if it exists) files only. Now, proceed as follows:
    8. Open Mail.
    9. The account’s Inbox should properly display in Mail as many messages as *.emlx files are in ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/Messages/. If that’s not the case, select the mailbox in Mail and do Mailbox > Rebuild.
    10. In Mail, do File > Import Mailboxes, choose Other as the data format, and follow the instructions to import the Inbox Old folder that’s on the Desktop. Do with the imported mail whatever you wish. You may move to the account’s Inbox the messages that Mail failed to convert properly, and delete those that did get through and, hence, are duplicates now.
The following collection of AppleScripts has a Remove Duplicates script that can be useful for removing duplicate messages:
    http://homepage.mac.com/aamann/Mail_Scripts.html
If all is well and you’re not missing anything, the files on the Desktop can be deleted, although you may want to keep them for a while, just in case.
Ask for any clarifications or if you need further assistance.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • Print out size lost control after upgrade to osx 10.9, cannot print 100% document original size, why?

    As subject said.
I'm using Xerox 1450GA, before upgrade to OSX 10.9, printing Adobe file could be in 100% real size. After upgrade, lost control, even checked setting in 100% in setting, come out image still auto reduce few percents, that make me confuse and cannot complete digital printing jobs, someone have same problem?  Please help to solve...

I've spent hours on the phone going in circles with HP's "support" (I use the term loosely here) and can confirm that it's a driver issue. The best part is, HP and Apple claim that neither of them have a copy of the v2.14 driver that actually worked, and I can't seem to dig one up online anywhere. I've tried everything under the sun and just gave up... ordering an Epson and selling both of my HP's. I think the only other option is to wait for HP to release working drivers, but since they don't even seem to understand that their driver is the source of the problem, I wouldn't hold my breath.
It seems really crazy to me that neither the manufacturer nor Apple keep a copy of the previous driver, but that's what I've been told. HP did release what they're calling a new 10.9 raster driver (available on their site), but it didn't fix the problem for me. If you have a timemachine backup from before the 2.16.1 driver was released, I'd restore to that and turn off automatic updates. If you don't (like me) seems like your stuck.

  • Lost applications after upgrade.

I have lost several applications including BBM applications after upgrade when I download it the system will say it is installed already but you can not see the icon.

I have tried all the above but it is not working.

  • Lost Notes after upgrade

After upgrading to version 6.0 I lost 18 months worth of  "Notes", I had checked iCloud for backup (as opposed to local laptop drive) but I cant see anyway to recover or restore from the missing Notes.Any ideas?

Within "settings", once you select iCloud there are multiple options to select to backup and "notes" is one of them. So it leaves you assuming you can back them up as well but after reading the literature that is not one of the items backed up along with others such as photo stream, contacts etc.

  • I've lost aperture after upgrading to maverick, common apple this is my livelihood.

i've lost access to aperture after upgrading to maverick, my livelyhood is tied up to aperure let alone all of my photographs for clients, come on apple don't do this again.

I tried the link leonieDFsent (http://support.apple.com/downloads/) and was unsuccessful after several attempts at the launching of the applications after download. Not sure why?,
christopherakapaul, the downloads page has update installers, not stand alone applications.
Any Aperture version you download from the Support page will have to run and to install the update to Aperture. For this to work, you need to have an older Aperture version in the Applications folder, and Mavericks must allow the installer to run. For some installers the security&priivacy settings in the System preferences need to be disabled.

  • Ipad lost music after upgrade

After upgrading to Maverick, I also upgraded my Ipad to whatever is the newest... It then told me it would reset everything (I didn't know it would)...so it did that... then asked if I wanted to restore from ICloud backup, which I did...
However, all my Music Playlists are gone. I do not sync music automatically with my Mac nor store them on Icloud, as I want to manually control which music appears on the Ipad. So I had preselected various playlists and songs in those playlists to construct the music on my Ipad, over the past several years.
Certainly, I could do the whole process (hours) all over again, as the music is still on my Mac. However, I don't understand why I have to do that. I read in these forums that Cloud Backup doesn't back up music.. no problem there.. but then, how do I get my selections back without going through the selection process manually again?
Quite disappointed in this upgrade experience, which, compared to upgrading to Mavericks, seems inordinately complicated..
    Thanks.

Forgot to mention that it's not just the playlists that are gone, but all the songs that were in them as well. All that is left are the items bought from the Itunes store

  • Lost most of my keywords after upgrading to LR 5.5. Any help?

While i was working on LR i noticed that keywords attached to pics in a folder were suddenly absent. I randomly checked other folders and found that MOST keywords were now absent. The keyword list is intact, but images appear not to have any keyword attached, for about 90% of my library.
The most important thing i have done recently is upgrade to LR5.5 today using the standard procedure of the installation package. I believe this is the cause, but i am not 100% sure.
I do have backups of my Catalog, i backup after every use, so i believe there should be a way to retrieve those passwords, but i am a bit fearful of doing missteps that would compromise the recovery.
Do i have to return to LR 5.4 before attempting to open previous catalogs that were created in LR 5.4 ? And how do i do that by the way now that i am on LR 5.5 ? etc.. etc...
If somebody could provide me with some comprehensive guidelines/steps i would be extremely grateful.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    YM

You shouldn't have to use LR 5.4 to check your backup catalogs.
To open a backup catalog file using your operating system, it is probably best to make a copy of it in a different folder, and then double-click on the copy.

  • Lost Bridge CS3 keywords after upgrade to Leopard

So I have have spent many, many man hours assigning keywords to images in Bridge CS3. I then recently upgraded the computer from OSX Tiger to Leopard (not Snow Leopard).
I use Filters to get at the exact images that I am interested in previewing. The first indication that something is wrong is there is far too few hits for the filter I am executing. So I go into the whole image gallery and notice that the images that should have keywords no longer have them.
Also, attempting to add keywords now fails. I assign one, go to another image, come back and no keyword assignment, gone.
During the OS upgrade I saved all support files, including preferences. Those are there including some keywords from before but not all.
Does anyone know how I can recover the other keyowords and how I can get the new ones to stick?
Thanks so much, I am really shut down until I figure this out. My image Library is somewhere north of 35,000 images.

This happened to me too. I spent hours keywording my images, and now almost all of them are gone! Oddly enough some pictures still have keywords left on them, but most does not. I can still find images with keywords through spotlight, but Bridge seems to not notice that they are there.
Is there a way to manually make Bridge aware that these images does in fact have keywords?
Edit: I forgot to say that I just upgraded to Snow Leopard.

  • Lost data after upgrade to Lion

Hi. I recently upgraded to Lion on my Macbook Pro and after a crash, my data was lost. The documents and downloads folders were empty. Fortunately I have a PC backup of the data and when I tried to restore the music to Itunes I was getting error messages about my MAC hard disk being full. Is the data still there? If so where? As it is not showing and a search for music on the hard disk yielded nothing. The capacity of my HD is 250GB and before the upgrade it had about 125GB free. I suspect the data was not removed but merely 'marked for deletion' and parked somewhere during the upgrade.

To find out if it really is still there, check this FAQ* on disk space:

  • Lost mail after upgrade to Leopard OS X 10.5.1

I upgraded to Leopard 10.5.1 from Panther 10.3.x. Everything opened as before except all the mail in all my folders between March 2006 and the date of the upgrade. Bookmarks, applications, address books, files, settings, desktop, etc. Absolutely everything is exactly as before, but all my saved mail is gone.
Apple support (phone) wasn't much help, except to tell me that I should have done an "Archive Install". It would have been nice to know that ahead of time...there's nothing in the booklet that came with the software to suggest that, or warn you to do that. All it tells you to do is load the disc and click "Install". I'm not a techie, but a 60 year old barely computer literate soul who's very frustrated.
Given that all the mail before 2006 is still there, I have a feeling that the missing stuff is lurking somewhere. Apple suggested looking in Library>Mail>Messages, but it wasn't there.
    Any help out there? Thanks.

Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.
This is a problem of incomplete and flawed conversion of mailboxes that changed in structure after 10.3.x. Most people encountered the problem converting from 10.3 to 10.4, but converting from 10.3 to 10.5 has all the same issues. Typically the data is not really lost, but considerable work must be sometimes be done to recover full functionality. Read the discussions at the following links, that while written for conversion to 10.4 and Mail 2.x, and nearly the same for your path:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=413196
    and
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2685531&#2685531
The primary thing is to look for mbox files of size within xxxx.mbox folders, and not lose them before checking for what has successfully been converted into Messages folders within xxxx.mbox folders.
