Lost libraries/playlists and bought tracks after update to iTunes 9.2.1.!

Help! I've lost all my playlists I've been creating since 2007. Just updated to a new iTunes version, and everything is gone.
Any advice on getting my playlists or old settings back? I have backups, and when I want to import the old iTunes libraries I get error messages that the files can not be read.
Other users with the same problem? And a solution?

  • Lost all playlists and purchased songs after 11.1.5.5

All of my playlists, the purchased tab, suddenly disappeared after the 11.1.5.5 update.  Seems like others have had the same issue.  I'm a senior citizen, not the most technically savvy guy on the net, and need some help to fix.  Anyone out there help me?  Very frustrating given how much money I've spent buying music from iTunes.

idk what happened, but did u try seeing if the files are still on your computer? if u didn't change the location of the files since u first installed iTunes, there should be an "iTunes" folder within your "My Music" folder. the iTunes files might still be there

  • Ipad 2 Lost tv shows and movie rental after update 6.o.1

Yesterday  I synced and updated the software on my ipad 2. (it had been a while). Before the update I had 2 movie rentals, and 2 seasons of a TV series, which I had purchased and downloaded from itunes. Before the update, I would go to the "Videos" app and they were all there. After the update, the only option in the "Video" app is to watch Music Videos, or go to Store. The top banner only says Music Videos. When I look at the Storage on my ipad, they are clearly taking up space, and if I try to "sync" them again, itunes tells me I do not have enough space.
I have tried to "search" for them and they are not found.
    Help!
    Mandy

"Sync" them from iTunes on your computer... is that what you mean? And it is not working because you do not have enough storage capacity left?
Go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Videos. Do you see the movies/TV Shows in there?
Have you tried restarting or rebooting the iPad since this problem arose?
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

After updating to itunes 10.6.3 I lost all my playlists, how do I retrieve them?

    Hi there,
One thing that may help is re-creating the iTunes library by following the steps in the article below.

  • After updating to itunes 11.1 I've lost more than half my music (1,500) songs.

After updating to itunes 11.1 I've lost more than half my music (1,500) songs.  To the right of the song there is the the cloud with the arrow pointing down, indicating I can download the songs from the cloud, however when I click on it,nothing happens.SOS!
Further, tracks that I've uploaded from older CDs are gone. Just as an FYI.
Anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the *Previous iTunes Libraries* folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename *iTunes Library* as *iTunes Library (Empty)* and then rename the restored file as *iTunes Library*. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See Music Folder Files Not Added and Super Remove Dead Tracks for clean-up tools, if required.

  • "And the beat goes on...." Lost all playlists and 8.0.2 takes away features

Upgrade to 8.0.2 has been a disaster-beware out there. Lost all playlists and have yet to get an answer on how to fix that problem so am just going to create new playlists(could be a good thing).
The latest f...up is that 8.0.2 seems to have taken away the option of creating a "smart shuffle" with songs being played less randomly-used to go to Preferences, Playback, and one of the options was a slider where you could choose how random your shuffle would be. Now there is no slider for that and I keep hearing the same songs constantly in my "random shuffle".
This is one of the reasons people are warned not to ever upgrade your itunes-because Apple ALWAYS takes away features from their customers in their latest upgrades-it's their whole corporate philosophy and mindset. They don't care for their customers-just want to appear "cool" and above everyone else(sometimes called arrogance).
So, is there a way to get the random slider back? Can I "downgrade" my itunes so I can get features that have been stolen from us by Apple?

You might have had a damaged 'iTunes Library' file.
Look in ./Users/Username/Music/iTunes to see if such a file exists.
Unfortunately these damaged files cannot be repaired.
iTunes tries to restore as much information as possible, but some information is lost.
Your missing 2000 tunes probably still are on your HD.
To add these again to the library, drop the 'iTunes Music' folder (in ./Users/Username/Music/iTunes) on the library window in iTunes.
iTunes will now add the missing songs to the library again.
If all goes well, your library will now list the 6200 songs.
Concerning your iPod. I think it's best to start from scratch.
If your iPod is set to automatically update, connect your iPod and immediately press and hold the Command and Option keys. Hold these keys down until the iPod appears in iTunes.
Holding these keys prevents the iPod from auto updating.
Then restore your iPod and set it up the way you want.
Your 'Purchased' playlist will re-appear on your next purchase.
In the meantime you can create a Smart Playlist with the rule:
    Kind - contains - protected
This playlist will then list all your purchases.
After the Purchased playlist re-appears, it will only list new purchases. If you want it to contain all purchases, drag the songs from the Smart Playlist to the 'Purchased' playlist.
Or just forget the 'Purchased' playlist and use the 'Smart Playlist' to view your purchases.
    Hope this helps.

  • After updating to itunes 10 i now get an error message saying there is a problem with the windows insaller package - I have tried all the suggestions but nothing works for me - have I lost all my itunes forever?

After updating to itunes 10 I now get an error message that says there is a problem with the windows installer package. I have tried all the things that others suggested but cannot download itunes at all now. Have I lost itunes forever?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) (not for XP) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • After updating to iTunes 7, can't find "purchased" playlist in Front Row

After updating to iTunes 7 (and QT 7), I discovered that Apple has moved the "purchased" list of music to the "store" section. Therefore, I cannot access my "purchased" list from Front Row. Does anyone know how to fix this? My primary use for Front Row was to play my "purchased" playlist from a distance.
I thought about creating a playlist called "purchased" but that seemed messy since there would be two of them in the sidebar. I also considered reconfiguring Front Row, but don't know how to do that.
I don't NEED to be able to do this because I can browse my purchased songs in other menus, such as "Library" or "Recently Added." But, I really like browsing my purchased songs separately from my other songs.
Before upgrading to iTunes 7, Front Row allowed me to do this, but not after the upgrade. Now, iTunes has removed "Purchased" music from the Playlist menu, and placed it next to the iTunes Store.
Is there a way to reconfigure Front Row so that "Purchased" is included as one of the song menus I can browse?

Although I appreciate the empathy, I think we're having different problems. I have no problem playing the songs I've purchased from iTunes, but Front Row doesn't allow me to select the "Purchased" playlist. I can do this in iTunes, but not in Front Row.

  • AFter updating to iTunes 11, my first generation Apple TV no longer automatically syncs when I open iTtunes nor does it display its playlists in iTunes.

AFter updating to iTunes 11 my first generation Apple TV wasn't displayed any longer in iTunes. I had to relink it and after that it no longer automatically sysnc when I open iTunes, nor does it display its play lists. It still has its photos and play lists and it is linked up for streaming but does not sync as it used to do. Is it possible iTunes 11 doesn't support first generation Apple TV the same way it used to.?

Yes, the first generation model still works with iTunes 11. It sounds as though you have set it up as a streaming only library.
Navigate to Settings > Computers > Your Library on the Apple TV, you may be told you will lose all synced content, but you can sync it back afterwards, you won't lose any purchased content that has yet to be transferred. Then select Settings > Computers > Connect To iTunes, note the passcode that appears on screen, click on the device in iTunes and enter the passcode when prompted.

  • HT1926 I keep getting the following message after attempting to download and install the latest update for iTunes: missing MSVCR80.dll.  error 7 (windows error 126)

I keep getting the following message after attempting to download and install the latest update for iTunes: missing MSVCR80.dll.  error 7 (windows error 126). Anyone else having this issue? How do I get iTunes back in working order?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.
