Lost Lighting Effects Flashlight Style

In PSCS3, under Filter>Render>Lighting Effects, I deleted "Flshlight", one of 17 "Style" options. I can't find a way to restore it, so now I have only 16 Style options. Surely, the Flashlight option wouldn't be permanently lost--or would it?

HI
All Of my Lighting Effects Styles have disapeared, I am using photoshop cs2. I have checked the folder Plug-Ins Filters and the folder Lighting Styles is in there with all 17 of the different styles. yet when I load photoshop and go to filter render lighting effects in the window that pops up the styles tab [I think that's what you call it] has a drop down list which is fully blank nothing there at all. I tried changing the advanced properties of the lighting styles folder from index this folder for faster searching and tried it without the checkmark. this did not help and i have since discovered that was for windows XP were as I am using windows Vista. Please can anyone give me some advise on how to correct this problem.
Thankyou
Mark

  • Lighting effects flashlight

I have Photoshop Elements 10 on my computer.  Where would I find the flashlight filte in version 10 so I can copy to version 11?

On a windows 7 x64 bit system that would be:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10\Locales\en_US\Plug-Ins\Filters\Lighting Styles
    On a windows 7 32 bit system:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10\Locales\en_US\Plug-Ins\Filters\Lighting Styles

  • Elements 3.0 cannot save lighting effects styles

I am running a PIII 1 gig with 2 gig of memory Running win 2000Pro. I have Elements 3.0 installed and I have been using the lighting effects filter, but I have noticed that when the lighting effects box comes up there are no styles listed. Also I cannot save any lighting effects styles. When I try to save a Style I get the following error message:
'An error occured while trying to save the style'
I do not use any file compression on any of the drives or folder on my system.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated...
One more thing there are lighting effects styles on the hard drive. I found them in the Plugins folder under Filters/Lighing Styles.

Thanks for the link to the FAQ Terri.
I checked and the proper settings were already present, but I reset them anyway. (couldn't hurt). Re-booted and cleared the preference files again. I still cannot see the lighting styles that are on the computer and I still cannot save the ones I build.
I have also tried and Un-install and re-install, but there must have been some files that were not cleared because after the re-install some of my settings came back. I will have to try again and this time I will make sure nothing is left after the Un-install.
I am very please with the help I have recieved on the Forum.. It always pays to have more than one mind looking for solutions.
    Thanks again

  • I deleted the Three lights down style in Lighting effects

I accidently deleted the 'three lights down' style in lighting effects. It's not my recycle bin. I looked for this style to download again but could not find. Do I have to reinstall?
    Thank you

    Hi,
Yes you need to re-instal PSE.
Before doing that, please remember to Deactivate the serial key from Help menu.
    Thanks,

  • Need help with Lighting Effects; CS3

So, let's say that you were trying to work out some customization using the Lighting effects under: Filter > Render > Lighting Effects.
I understand that there is a very specific file that has the Styles.
Any chance I can fix this problem?

If you mean that they're grayed out then that's because you're not in RGB color mode with 8bits/channel. If you mean that the filters simply don't show up in the Filters menu then they're probably hidden in which case go to Edit->Menus and make sure that the Set dropdown is set to Photoshop Defaults (switching to the Basic workspace changes the menus to the Basic set that hides a lot of menu items)

  • I cannot save custom lighting effects in Photoshop CS4

    Under Filters>Render>Lighting Effects.
Whenever I try to save a custom lighting effect in Photoshop CS4 an error message pops up saying "An error occurred while trying to save the style."
    I am using an iMAC.
Video display card / driver version: ATY,RadeonX1600
    Thanks for any help.

I solved the problem by deleting my original user account, but saving all my files first.  I created a new account with adminstrative access, then opened up my old user files from the Deleted User folder and dragged them over to my new user account.  The problem with saving custom lighting effects in Photoshop is fixed.  Thanks for the tip leading me to realize it was the user profile causing the problem and not Adobe PS.

  • Render/Lighting Effects/Flash light

For some strange reason, my 'Flashlight' style has disappeared and in it's place is 'five lights up.' It was there, now it's gone. Any ideas?

you (or someone else) probably deleted it by accident. If you are on a 64bit OS then Photoshop gets installed in two locations and you could just copy it from the other version's plug-ins folder

  • Render Lighting Effects

For the first time ever I've been looking at (and trying to use) this effect in Photoshop. It seems like it could be good, but the method of moving settings and adjustments seems incredibly cheap and nasty.
When you start to place a lighting effect on an image you get a small preview image alongside the adjustment controls, but that image is so small it's almost impossible to see what you're doing and where you're doing it. Surely there is a bigger/better way of seeing where you are placing the effect and making adjustments?
Have I missed something, or is that as good as it gets?

    Hi Kev,
The Lighting Effects is a very valuable filter from my perspective as I use it on about a dozen images each year. The problem with the interface is that it is a very old filter and has never been updated. The little preview window is particularly hard to get used to as it is easy to lose the light outline handles and even manipulating them is problematic. There is no better preview window that that which you find frustrating.
That being said, with patience and some practice it can do great lighting effects. Using alpha channels can add bevel and emboss effects which have a different quality that those found in styles and sometimes are more valuable. I will say that even with considerable practice I still am accustomed to experimenting several times when I use the filter before becoming completely satisfied with the result.
I really wish that Lighting Effects would be updated with a new UI but don't believe it will be as the only 'old' filters which seem to get upgraded are those which benefit photographers who really are the bulk of the user base. I mean hey, they finally made the Brightness/Contrast filter useful after it had long ago proven to be useless.
Here's a Lighting Effects piece. The background and puzzle were two 3D renders which were then manipulated in Photoshop. The table top, wainscot, molding and light fixture were all made in Photoshop. The whole thing was lighted with Lighting Effects.

  • Photoshop CS lighting effects rendering malfunction

You know I am really angry with Adobe regarding this issue. I have spent hours on the phone with them and they have no clue what they are doing it would seem. I have lost a client job because of this.
If you have this issue please let me know:
Try to render lighting effects in your image and you cannot manipulate your lights as in scaling and moving them. You will see the light but cannot do a damn thing with it.
I spent 2 hours online with Adobe tech support which involved them taking remote control of my machine. New account was made in Windows and Photoshop launched under that account which solved it temporarily. Then it was decided to throw out all my ADOBE preferences under may account which worked until today when I started working again only to find out the problem is back.
I am just completely dissapointed now with Adobe in general. If they cant fix their own software what is a user to do.
Can anyone help with this issue from experience? Please do not guess - I am need an actual permanent solution.

  • Falloff Blur - Lighting Effects in 64-bit PS CS5

    Hello
I miss Lighting Effects. I know I can get it back by running in 32-bit mode, but it's just not the same...
Is there a way to get that awesome falloff blur that Lighting Effects has (had)? Like if I draw an oval, then apply some sort of blur or process of blurs to it to get that great look? It would also be really hande for making shadows.
    Like this:

      Just curious...

I think one aspect of the effect is fairly easily mimicked by a Radial Blur Layer, converted to SO and then perspectively transformed; the shadows are a different matter though.

  • Lighting Effects Missing in PS CS6

I am using the trial version of Photoshop CS6 Extended on Windows.  The lighting effects filter appears to be missing.  When I go to the filter-->render menu, it is not there.  I have gone into the edit-->preferences-->perfomance menu and selected Use Graphics Processor, however the lighting effects filter is still not present.  Can someone please tell me what I need to do to get the filter?  Thank you.

    Hi,
If you are using Windows XP, then it is expected for that menu item to be missing. We do provide the ability to download an optional LIghting Effects plug-in that will work for both 32-bit anf 64-bit Ps CS6. However, it is the legacy interface and not the new interface which relies on OpenGL support.
You can find it here: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/plug-ins-photoshop-cs61.html
After downloading the Win_Optional_Plugins, copy the Lighting Styles folder and LightingEffects.8BF plug-in to the \Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Plug-ins folder (copy from the 32-bit category to the 32-bit application directory, 64-bit to 64-bit where applicable).
Then on launch, you should see a menu item Filter> Render> Lighting Effects Classic...

  • There is no "Lighting Effects" Option???

I am trying to add a lighting effect to my picture, but I can't find it. I have looked it up, and it says, "Choose Filter>Render>Lighting Effects" but under "Render" I only have 4 options, Clouds/difference clouds/fibers/lens flare. Where is the "Lighting Effects"? and How can I find it?
I have CS6, and a PC, I am on a deadline for this photo, so the sooner the answer comes, the better

You can download the old style lighting effects filter from here and maybe that will serve your purpose:
    Where is says:
    Download optional plug-ins for windows
and that includes Lighting Effects Classic

  • Photoshop cc lighting effects do not seem to work

I am trying to put spotlight on area in photo but from render - lighting effects all that happens is my workspace changes on the right to "lighting effects" but nothing works and I have to close this side and shut down photoshop just to go back to a normal "essential" workspace. == what is the problem?

I'm having the same issue as well. Just started using CC tonight on both my home and work Macs. My home computer is a late 2006 MacPro, 6GB RAM, 2.66ghz and the work computer is 2013 MacPro with way more guts in it. Photoshop at home runs terribly slow all together but I did manage to see some slight improvement when I switched off "Use Graphics Processor" in the Preferences panel (Prefs > Performance) but this also turns off the Lighting effects filter. I remote logged in to my work Mac and using the same file (saved in the cloud), applied the lighting filter and it worked perfectly. All that to say, I'm pretty certain is a graphics processor/memory issue more than it being a CC issue. At home, the filter attempts to work, stops, and the only thing left is the properties panel like the effect is active.
Looks like I need some upgrades.
    Hope this helps!

  • Urgent - Need help with Lighting Effects Filter

    Hi,
I need urgent help on something regarding the Lighting Effects filter in Adobe Photoshop CS5. I need lighting effect urgently to complete a project.
I am using Photoshop CS5 on a Windows Vista computer in 64-bit mode.
On the net it is given that you can run photoshop CS5 in 32-bit mode to use the lighting effects filter - both on Mac and PC.
    My Problem:
While on the net it is given how to change from 64-bit to 32-bit and vice-versa, I have my Photoshop CS5 installed on 'E - Drive' and not on 'C - Drive' due to lack of space. I have followed all the instructions on how to open it in 32-bit mode on the net, but I still cannot use the lighting effects plugin.
What I need is if someone could give simple and clear instructions on how to open Photoshop CS5 32-bit version instead of opening the default 64-bit version on Windows Vista - that would be great.
    Looking forward to answers.
    Thanks.

That advice about running the 32 bit version of cs5 for the Render> Lighting Effects filter
only pertains to the mac version of photoshop cs5.
The lighting effects filter does work in the 64 bit version of photoshop cs5 on windows, your
document just has to be 8 bits/channel and in the RGB Color mode (Image>Mode) same
for using the lighting effects filter in the 32 bit version of cs5.
Added: In general it's frowned upon installing photoshop on drives other than C drive.

  • In PS CS6, ALT key is in the light of replication lighting effects filter

The light can not be copied, only one adjustment, this adjustmentout of the light is not the same. How to solve...
Sorry, I am not good at English, only through online translation ofdialogue, the syntax is wrong, please forgive me

Alpha channels are 16-bit in a 16-bit per channel document. As Christoph said, selections are limited to 8-bit, so if you make a channel from a selection then that channel will have 8-bit quantisation.
Here is an example of Lighting Effects filter using a channel containing a 16-bit radial gradient as a height-map, and where the filter is quantising the height values to 8-bit.
