Lost Linksys password after new windows install

I have had my Linksys E4200 for a few years now. When I'm home my cell phone and laptop both use my wireless connection. My desktop computer had the main Cisco console which provided the passwords to both my cell and laptop.
My problem is I recently had a virus attack to my desktop from clicking on a bad email link. I couldn't remove the virus so I did a clean windows install. I can't find my Linksys router box but I found my CD disc. The disc is asking for my password which is probably somewhere in my original box (which of course I can't find now). My router has the model number and mac address but I don't know how to reinstall my console without my original password.
I never disconnected my router when I did my new windows install on my desktop, and my computer still recognizes my Linksys router. When I click on the device icon it says, "network connected", Catagory: wireless network router, Manufacturer: Cisco, Model: Internet Access Server. Is there enough information so I can recover my password and install my console again? Thanks...
Solved!

Hello DuMartin,
It is asking for the password you set up for your network. If that will not work, then it would be best to reset and configure the router again.

  • Lion Server Won't Accept Password After New Motherboard Installed

We got a mac mini with Lion Server installed on it. The motherboard went bad so we took it back, and they put in the new motherboard. We couldn't log into the computer after that for some reason so we reinstalled it using the Time Machine backup we had (running from the other drive). Then we were able to log in using our admin password. Now the connecct to server won't work, even though we're trying to connect to ourselves, which should us the admin password. We deleted all the keychain passwords but to no avail.
    Thoughts?

We had to reinstall the software (using cmd-r when booting up) and then reload everything. That fixed it.

  • Firefox slow on new Windows install/Flash player crashes, how to fix?

On my new windows install I found Firefox to be very slow compared to how it was before the my new Windows install.
Opening most webpages takes way longer than it should, i excluded my internet connection being the problem as i always get 100/100 Mbps (speedtest) results.
    I already :
-reinstalled Flashplayer, wich didnt solve the problem.
-Did a Firefox refresh (as in: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-health-report-says-your-browser-is-slow )
-Tried setting the ipv6 boolean (network.dns.disableIPv6) in about:config to true.
    -Disabling plugins (user installed ones)
    -Clearing flashplayer cache
    -Reinstall videocard driver
I'm at a loss what could possibly be the problem, hopefully someone else has an idea how to solve this problem.
    Thanks in advance

Do you ever see messages that scripts are running slowly with Stop/Continue options?
Another common troubleshooting step for Flash on Windows Vista and newer is to disable the plugin's protected mode feature. That feature has security benefits, but seems to have compatibility issues on some systems. There is a new hidden setting for this:
    (A) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (B) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''flash''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (C) Double-click the '''dom.ipc.plugins.flash.disable-protected-mode''' preference to switch its value from false to true.
This might not take effect until all Flash has been unloaded for a few minutes, or you close Firefox.
Before that preference was added, the way to disable protected mode was by creating or editing a settings file. The following pages/posts provide different approaches for that if it turns out to be necessary (if Flash EXE processes continue to show up in the Windows Task Manager, Processes tab, even after changing the Firefox preference):
    * Adobe support article under the heading "Last Resort": [http://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?]
    * Manual steps: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/968190?page=5#answer-509209
    * Batch file to automate the manual steps: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/982093#answer-518078 (alternate version of Carm's batch file with a few changes by me: [https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=f7d304d92388737d&id=F7D304D92388737D!336&ithint=file,.bat&authkey=!AP2FXW2Y_3BXZyo])
Flash needs to completely unload from memory (exiting and starting Firefox up again might help) before this takes effect.
    Any improvement?

  • Can't restore backed up iTunes library on new Windows install

I just reinstalled Windows on my system drive. My previous iTunes library was located on another internal HDD. I installed iTunes on my new Windows install, and tried simply changing my library location to the old location in the preferences, which didn't work for restoring anything. Then I tried starting iTunes whole holding shift, and choosing the old library file, which did nothing. iTunes starts up, and has absolutely nothing in the library, even from the old library file. The library files have a modified date of yesterday, so they haven't been overwritten by starting iTunes and setting the library location to the old location. I also reassigned the drive letter for this drive so it was the same as my previous install so filepaths would be the same.
Is there anything I'm doing wrong? I'd really like to restore my library with all my playlists, playcounts, and ratings.

  • Doesn't accept User name + Password after archive and install

I did an archive and install, when finished the install the computer restarted and came up with the login Name + Password screen. I type in every account Name + Password I know and the login window just shakes telling me its wrong. I don't know what to do from this point, I was thinking about reseting the admin password but I'm not sure thats the problem because we have two admin accounts and I know both passwords.
I archive and installed 10.4.0 over 10.4.7. And currently on my backup install of tiger.

I did an archive and install because I had no video, and sometimes could not turn on the IBook. I have had two logic boards that went bad and were fixed free by Apple. When I finished the install the computer restarted and came up with the login Name + Password screen. When I type in Name + Password the login window just shakes telling me its wrong, which it is not.
It is possible that the administrator or other user on the computer were erased at some point when I thought to get rid of unnecessary stuff (mistake!)
I archive and installed 10.2.0 over 10.3.7, because I thought the instructions were to use the original install disk.
I have a backup of the info on this computer on a MacBook Pro that I use all the time, this IBook I only use for email, etc.

  • Problem installing Flash MX04 after new OS install

    Hello,
I have just installed WIN XP Pro that came with SP2 on my
notebook. I am trying to install my Studio MX04 suite but when It
gets to flash MX 04, it gets to 95 percent of the install and
    shoots an error out.
    The error is the following:
    Unhandled Exception
    Error Number: 0x80040703
Description: Failed to find dll function:
    Macromedia_Licensing_Installer.CdaSysInstallEx2
    Setup will now terminate.
This message comes after being 95% completed according to the
    install progress bar.
    Background:
The notebook is a HP Pavilion zd7160us with 512 MB RAM and
    2.8 GB Processor
Totally new clean install of Win XP Pro with SP2 (just
    purchased)
Legal copy of Studio MX 2004 (just installing again after
    wipping the other OS off)
DW, FW, FHMXa, and Extention Manager all installed without a
    hitch.
Was installed previously on same notebook with XP home.
I have found other forums where people are having this same
problem but with no resolution to the problem, and all of the
inquiries seem to be linked to SP2.
I would really like it if someone knew why this is happening
    and how to fix it.
    Thanks,
    Bob

I seemed to have solved my issue!
For some reason there was a Flash MX 2004 folder in my
system, there should not have been because I formated the drive
when I installed the new OS. But I deleted that Flash folder as
suggested in another forum and the install went through fine. I am
    now downloading the updater 7.02

  • Reseting the Hashed Password after enabling Windows File Sharing

Disclaimer: you'll need a good bit of knowledge about OS X, UNIX, and encryption to understand what I'm talking about.
All right, so normally OS X hashes user passwords using a salted SHA1 encryption. It uses shadowing so that you can't obtain the actual hash value using "% nidump passwd".
BUT, if you enable Windows File Sharing, all that changes. OS X re-hashes your password using the much less secure LANMAN encryption. This allows Windows machines to access your files. (LANMAN is what Windows used to encrypt passwords up through Windows ME. Later versions of Windows use NTLM instead, which is stronger.) This is why, the first time you enable Windows File Sharing, OS X warns you that enabling the feature will require your password to be stored in a less secure manner; it's downgrading the hash from SHA1 to LANMAN.
My question is: I'm done sharing files with idiot Windows users - how do I force OS X to go back to storing my password using SHA1?
    Thanks guys.
    -Bryan

Thanks biovizier. You're absolutely right, deleting the extra text after ";shadowHash;" and then reseting the password for the user's account does seem to force OS X to rehash the password using SHA1.
Just in case someone else has this question in the future, here's how to verify that your password is hashed in SHA1:
Log in as Root and open the /private/var/db/shadow/hash folder. You'll see files with long, weird names. You'll also see an XML file (with the extension *.state) for each of the files with long, weird names. The XML file contains several tags that tell OS X information about the hashed password - things like when it last logged on, when it was created, how many times login failed, etc.
We're interested in the other files - the ones that don't end in ".state"
To verify that SHA1 is being used, open the long, weird files in textedit. You should see something like this:

    00000000000000000000000000000
The second Hashed value does not start with zeros. This hash value is not SHA1. It is the less secure encryption method required for compatability with Windows.
If your hash file opens with zeros, you're using SHA1. Otherwise, follow Biovizier's procedure: Open NetInfo, select the user account whose password needs to be changed back to SHA1, look at the "authentication_authority" value, make sure the value is set to ;ShadowHash; and that no additional text follows that string, then reset the affected account's password. You can then log back in as root and re-check the hash files using textedit and you should find that the hash file opens with solid zeros instead of letters and numbers.
Do NOT manually edit the hash files in textedit. One of those files is the hash for the Root password. If you change that hash file, your root password will no longer work (because when you type MYPASSWORD, OS X will hash that string and find that the hashed value no longer matches the stored hash value in /private/var/db/shadow/hash and OS X will therefore reject your password as incorrect) and you will quickly find yourself locked out of your computer for good.
And finally, just in case you have the computing power of the NSA and are thinking about running the hashes I've listed here: A) They aren't the right length; I've left some characters out and B) I randomly substituted different alphanumerics in for the ones in my real hashes with no rhyme or reason.
Which brings me to another point: NEVER post your hashes online. Yes, it takes a TON of computing power to break them, but still, they're hidden away for a reason!
Anyway, I hope this helps other security buffs out there.
I'm going to make a suggestion to Apple that OS 10.5 be changed so that when you unclick "windows file sharing" the OS immediately rehashes your password in SHA1 again.

  • Daren't sync iPhone to new Windows install. HELP

My old Windows installation was recently plagued by a virus, and as such I had to back everything up, and re-install. I've retrieved all my music off of my iPod Classic, no problems there. Set the iPod to manual, no stupid iTunes wiping.
I also have a first gen iPhone, running 2.1, synced with the old library and not this one. I daren't plug it in due to fear of having it wiped, which would be disastrous as it's the only copy of all my contacts. Photos and music I can re-sync by hand happily. But somebody please tell me it won't wipe all of my contacts, predictive text, text history, apps etc. Is there any way of making it a manual device like the iPod, and only change what I WANT to change?
Help needed, Thank You in advance.

Oh believe me I'd LOVE a Mac. I'd use Linux if I could, but with the iPod and iPhone I need iTunes. My brother has a MacBook, excellent piece of kit. Mac's my favourite OS, stable and pretty. But I've recently bought a crap load of Photo equipment so I have no real money left lol.
I'd have done an iTunes backup, but I couldn't actually open iTunes. I got all my Photos off the old pc, so that's fine. I just accept a Windows install won't last me that long at any one time. It's a sad fact of life.
I think what I'll do is just manually enter my contacts into Outlook, and then just sync with this library, as long as I have my contacts I'm not fussed, the music needs sorting through on it anyway.
It will work if I put my contacts into Outlook and then sync with this new install won't it?

  • Mac Pro refuses to boot after new drive instalation...

    Hi
Could anyone shed a bit of light on my problem - Ive just got a new 500gb seagate drive, - when I load it up in order to format, im faced with a blank screen, and os x refuses to even think about booting up - there is also an odd click which Im guessing is the boot drive trying to start.
The new drive slots into place fine, and I made sure I was earthed out before touching it...
When the new drive is taken out, the system starts up without a hitch.
Do I have a duff drive? - or am I missing something blindingly obvious?
    Thanks for any help
    Maxine.

    Hi,
Funny that I saw this message, I am the person that had the exact same problem on the 20th of December.
After trying to install the HD, I had the problem as well. I ended up taking the computer in to my local Apple store, and they kept the Mac Pro.
It is now January 5th and I still do not have the system. Called them an hour ago and they said that the part (they didn't mention what it was) was on BACKORDER, so they had to decide if they were going to wait for the part or give me a brand new system. Hmmmm.... Could this be a NEW hidden problem for the Mac Pro now?
I wanted to purchase an iMac, but was afraid of the lock-up issues. I am starting to regreat my choice and wish I had got an iMac, at least I would have some kind of file server for my network
All I can suggest is to take it in to your local Apple store and let them check it, and then ask if they could fix it right then, or you two could have a system that's not able to be workable.

  • Airport settings lost in osx after using windows 7 in bootcamp??

Hi forum members, I thought I'd ask this question as I have been noticing this in the last few days.
    First things first, my kit:
    13 inch MBP with 2.3GHz i5 processor. 4GB RAM running OSX 10.7.1
    My problem:
I recently set up a bootcamp partition runnning windows 7 upgraded from windows XP sp2. This install went well (considering the number of threads to the contrary!) and I now happily run windows 7 pro in a partition on my mac.
The problem arises when I return to OSX having just been on the windows 7 partition. I can't connect to the internet with airport. I can make a connection to the router but it cannot actually make a connection to the internet itself.
I have found one solution which requires me to repair the permissions in the disk utility after I first log back in to Lion but I'm a bit worried about continually doing this as I don't know what the long term effects will be if done frequently.
Can anyone suggest a) what might be happening, and b) a better solution to the problem than to have to head into disk utility after every windows use?
Thanks in advance and best regards,
    Dan Drysdale

An update/follow up for anyone else who had seen this thread:
What appears to have happened is that the DHCP lease has been getting reset so going into
    system preference - network - airport - advance - tcp/ip
and renewing dhcp lease seems to bring the internet back.
I dunno, if that's the ultimate solution but it appears to be what is happening at least as far as I can see.
    Smarter people may know better.
    Cheers,
    Dan Drysdale.

  • *Problems uninstalling itunes/quicktime after using windows install cleanup

I was having problems installing itunes/quicktime 7.6. Everytime I tried to install it it would say that it does not have a valid digital signiture. So one of the suggestions I saw on this forum was to install windows install cleanup and use it on itunes and quicktime. So I did but all it did is mess up my old itunes/quicktime. Now when I go to try and uninstall itunes and quicktime from the add and remove programs in the control pannel it does not even show itunes or quicktime in my program list. Any suggestions??

Ok, Update. I was able to remove itunes and quicktime manually after going into my windows task manager and to the processes tab and ended all processes involving itunes, apple, or quicktime. So now when I install itunes/quicktimes via apples site when it gets to the end it just disapears and nothing happens. I searched to see if it installed anything and it didn't, didn't even give me any reasons why. Can anyone help me with this?? It would help me a ton!

  • HT204074 A new Windows install of iTunes 11.01.12 will not pick up the past purchases of Apps from my account

There's a number of free and a few purchased iPhone apps that were downloaded to an iPod Touch in the last couple of years, none of which will show up in a new Windows installation of iTunes. The goal of them showing up on a computer is the ability to delete many of them no longer used.
Here's a sequence of actions in an effort to get them to show up on a new Windows iTunes 11.01.12 installaton:
    1) Purchase of an iPad, where all the purchased past store apps display correctly under the "Purchased" tab
    2) Installed the latest iTunes on a Windows 8 computer in order to display, then delete all unwanted app store "purchases," whether free or paid.
    3) Had five defunct authorized past installs of iTunes which needed to be wiped out in order to authorize a new install. Did that.
    4) Successfully authorized the new Windows installation of iTunes 11.01.12 with one and only ID ever made, and it shows that, as well as the new iPad as both authorized with the same ID.
    5) Under the "Preferences" menu, then Store and Advanced, checked Apps under Automatic Downloads. Always check for available downloads and Download pre-orders when available are also checked.
    6) Went to Store menu item, then chose "Check for available downloads" from there. No legacy apps are available and it says: "All purchases have been downloaded for this Apple ID."
The result of all this is that there's still about 30 apps that had been downloaded for an iPod Touch device which don't display in the Windows iTunes installation and thus are still not available for removal.

You can change the Default Notes account with which your iPhone syncs by going to Settings > Notes and then tapping "Default Account" from there you can choose iCloud, On My iPhone, and possibly Outlook.
Also, a workaround for the issue is using third-party apps designed to backup your iPhone notes.
Thanks for the tip regarding the third party product (CopyTrans).  This does look like a good workaround
Unfortunately your suggestion re setting the "default account" is inaccurate.
This sets which account new notes will go into, not which account iTunes syncs to.
My default notes account is already set to "On My iPhone", but iTunes refuses to sync it if the iCloud notes account is also activated
My original problem remains.  I still cannot sync to PC while iCloud is one of the active accounts.
Given that notes and mail and calendar all allow for multiple accounts, it seems crazy to me that you can only sync the iColud account if it is activated as one of the multiple accounts.  Any other accounts are ignored by iTunes !!!!
