  • Lost mail after upgrading to Mountain Lion

Hi, new to this forum, but I upgraded to Mountain Lion from the previous version and seem to have lost the last six months mail (Mar 2012 to the date I upgraded in Nov 2012).  I have found all the old mail folders, notes, etc, and imported them based on directions from other threads, but this period still remains lost for incoming and outgoing mail.  I was not backing up to iCloud and it seems that the back ups I had been doing manually were not picking up recent mail. Does anyone have any other suggestions?  I have not found this mail anywhere on my hard drive and can't understand why only this period of time is missing.  Any help greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

    There is a response here:

    Hope this helps.

  • Finding Mailbox on hardrive with Mountain lion?

I replaced the drive in my mac book pro. I would now like to now import mailboxes from the previous hard drive (that had Mountain Lion) mailboxes are hidden. How do I access them so I can import my mail?

You mean you can't find that folder on the external (and that external was originally your internal drive)?
Simple. On the external drive go to Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail. In Apple Mac OS X speak ~/Library/Mail.
You can use this to show all hidden files and folders on all drives.
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true (Replace true with false to turn off
    killall Finder to implement either)
Oh you enter that in a terminal window. You may have to type in your password.

  • Mailboxes not transferred after Mountain Lion upgrade

I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion and my mailboxes in Apple Mail did not transfer. I was able to locate them in Time Machine and copy them to the Mail Library, but the messages did not show up. When I look into the contents of each mailbox (in the Library) all the messages are there and I can open them in Mail. Is there a way to have them reappear in Mail? Thanks

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the text on the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Distorted Powerpoint Transitions in Mountain Lion only

Issue: Powerpoint transitions and animation of text and images sliding in from right to left displays unwanted distortion in the moving elements on screen.
Hardware: 21.5 iMac, 2.7Ghz i5, nVIDIA GeForce GT640M 512MB (this has also been seen on 27 iMacs and a 15 MacBook Pro)
Software: Mountain Lion 10.8.3, Microsoft Office 2011 (14.3.2)
If an external display is attached = no distortion
If Lion 10.7.5 is used = no distortion
If Office 2008 is used = no distortion
If Retina MBP is used = no distortion
the common denominators are Mountain Lion, Office 2011 & the GeForce GT640M, if any of these are replaced the issue fails to arise.
A full erase and reinstall on all machines fails to remove the issue.
    Kind regards, Adrian

So an update, in case anyone cares.  Troubleshooting, I tried replacing everything I could, in ascending order of desparation.
    1) Created a second user.  FTP still slow
    2) Deleted all the network plist files. FTP still slow
    3) Deleted all the system configuration plists.  FTP still slow.
    4) Restored from a Time Machine backup.  FTP still slow
    5) Erased and reformatted my HD. Restored from a Time Machine backup.  FTP still slow
    5) Erased and reformatted my HD.  Did a clean install.  FTP fast.
I then was able to use Migration Assistant to restore my all my settings and data from the Time Machine backup.  Obviosly, I did not transfer my old network settings.  Been a couple of days, so far so good.  Can max my 30/25 internet again via FTP
Obviously there was some sort of fubar network setting.  I did my best to erase every network and configuartion plist file I could find in step 3 and 4, but clearly I missed some, as the issue persisted until I nuked everything.  Overall, this was very frustrating and time consuming to troubleshoot.

  • Lost photos when upgraded to mountain lion

So I had all of my photos stored in iPhoto, but my work upgraded my OS from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion (yes, I realize Lion was skipped), I lost iPhoto along with all of my photos.  iPhoto came pre-loaded on my machine, so I don't have the software to re-install iPhoto.  Advice?  I did save my photos on an external hard drive (via time machine) prior to upgrading, but I'm not sure if they'll be accessable since I don't have iphoto on my computer anymore.  Thanks!

  • Smooth transition from Mountain Lion Server to Mavericks Server 3.0!!

After an new OS release that are always complaints about installation and configuration problems. First comers to using any new software tool provide valuable feedback we generally hope will help improve the new product. It's how things have worked since the first 6503 Apple II's and 8086 IBM PC's.
I've been using and upgrading PC's since THOSE DINOSAURS! And I can't remember EVER having an OS upgrade go as smoothly as my recent upgrade from Mountain Lion Server (OS X 10.8.5 w. Server 2.2.2) to Mavericks Server 3.0.
I chose to do a clean Mavericks install on a clean partition created on a 1 TB disk that was upgraded into my trusty MacBook. I used the DiskmakerX app to create a Mavericks installation USB drive. When the screen came up with the option to import users, programs & files (took a pass on email) from the Mountain Lion Server partition, I let it run overnight to transpose everything of value into the clean Mavericks installation.
The next morning the only program that wasn't PERFECTLY installed and configured on Mavericks was Server 2.2.2. I deleted it and bought/installed Server 3.0. After Server 3.0's setup ran that only thing I had to do manually was start Postgres! My domain setting, DNS, all my web applications that were set up on Mountain Lion Server were all GOOD TO GO again on Mavericks Server!
I'm disclosing this here, publicly because it was a BIG PAIN to install and deploy all my websites using Mountain Lion's server app. To say the easy transposition into Server 3.0 was an unexpected and pleasant surprise amounts to massive understatement.
Now I'm going to describe two small anomolies I've noticed in either Mavericks or Server 3.0 that other users might want to be on the lookout for. They're not fatal. But they might be "habringers" suggesting underlying problems in either the new OS or the new Server's internals.
The toolbar icon for TimeMachine doesn't "spin" when it backs up. It's not a big deal. But it's convenient to see the circle around the clock whirling so we know when TIme Machine is backing up.
Mavericks Server isn't reporting newly upgraded apps as available under the Updates Tab of the Server's Software Updates subsystem. It might be inconsequential. But with a new OS version it never hurts to let the developers know about the "little things" that don't apparently work.
Kudos to the Maverick's developers for releasing an OS X version that's THIS CLEAN. And hugs to Apple's management for making it a free download upgrade for developers!!!
Full disclosue: I don't now and never have worked for Apple. but I do own a few shares of Apple stock that we purchased many years ago at $14.00 / share. I'm not a big shareholder. But based on my recent seamless upgrades to Mavericks and iIOS 7, I'm a happy one who's not likely to sell any time soon.
If Apple can do for ALL THEIR HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE PRODUCTS what they seem to have done for OS X and iOS, they've got at least a fighting chance to recover from their losses after their stock peaked at about $700.00 /share.
    Keep up the good work!

  • Lost Diary and Addresses in Mountain Lion

Alright, so Mountain Lion appears to be as useful as mud in a bath. With the trouble in Mail, I now find there is major hassle in Addresses and Calender. My addresses have gone AWOL as has my Diary. Why oh why can't Apple get their up dates correct?
I have no idea what I can do to get the three problems sorted. Is there anyway I can revert back to 10.7.3 which worked far better than the 10.7.4 or 10.8. Equally so is there anyway I can revert back to the Mail and Contacts and Diary as it was under 10.7.3?
I am really miffed at what has happened to my machine since sticking 10.8 in. It is a complete and utter waste of time.
    altv

Again, I have no idea how this question got in to the iPad Forum. To my knowledge, I have never been in that Forum! I do not have any other Apple products apart from the iMac and in view of the unbelievable problems I have had, I certainly wouldn't want to get any other Apple Product if they behave the way this machine does.
I have transferred this discussion on the Mountain_Lion forum.
Maybe someone there will be able to help, but I am not convinced!!
    Cheers

  • Lost microsoft office tools with mountain lion install

I installed Mountain Lion and now my Microsoft Office Tools are gone?

I'm using Entourage just fine, which is good because Apple Mail is almost as bad as Outlook.  However, with Entourage, I had to delete all the preferences files and rebuild the database, as it was very pokey after the upgrade.
I'm using Office 2011 apps, and those are fine.  Sorry, but I abandoned the rest of the 2008 suite a while back.... but I just tested Word 2008 and it worked OK... although still much slower launching than 2011, which is almost instantaneous.
Make sure you have a full backup, such as with SuperDuper, on a bootable firewire drive before you attempt it.  Better safe than sorry.

  • Lost notes when upgraded to mountain lion

  • I lost all calendar events with mountain lion -- help!

I upgraded to Mountain Lion, and all looked fine until I opened Calendar -- no events!

    Jim,
I presume all of the calendars have a ✓ mark in the appropriate box?
Try removing the com.apple.iCal.plist file from your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. To find that Library folder, use Finder>Go Menu>Depress the "Option" key>Library. Drag the .plist file to your desktop, and log out/in or restart.
Then go to your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Calendars Folder and remove any files with "Cache" as a part of the file name. Use the same method as listed above to get to the correct Library Folder. Log out/in, or restart and check iCal for functionality.

  • Lost mousescreen zoom after installing Mountain Lion

  • Yahoo Accounts in Mountain Lion

Has anyone had an issue setting up a Yahoo Account in system preferences in Mountain Lion?  It constantly rejects the password even though I can login fine on their website.  I'm not sure if its anything to do with the domain name being @yahoo.co.uk rather than @yahoo.com.  When I leave off the domain it always adds @yahoo.com to the end of it.  If I put @yahoo.co.uk it still rejects it.

I have solved it. Thank you for pointing me towards that thread. Unfortunately I had already tried this. The result was that mail recovered only one message from that mailbox. Perhaps it's because I selected only one of the messages in time machine?
To anybody else who needs to recover lost accounts and mail in Mountain Lion, this is what I did to get mine back:
    Quit Mail
Enable view library by default by pasting this into terminal: chflags nohidden ~/Library/
    Navigate to Users/your-user-name/Library/Mail/
Open time machine and go back to the date your mail was working like it should be
Select V2 from the mail folder then click Restore
When asked "do you want to replace" you should go ahead and replace.
Start Mail - You will be greeted with a Welcome to Mail dialogue
Follow the prompts to start importing your missing mailboxes and settings
Optional - Rebuild your database to catch up with any missing mail by selecting your mailboxes then choosing Rebuild from the Mailbox menu
This fixed it for me - Good luck...

  • Restoring Accounts in Mountain Lion Mail

    Hello all.
I used to have around 18 IMAP accounts and 3 POP accounts in my Mail application. For whatever reason I moved the entire contents of library/mail/v2 to the desktop in order to fix a problem that had caused mail to stop working (a huge email that was saved as a draft and was bringing my mail server down - whoops). My plan was to copy the folder back to the library when mail was fixed and everything would be fine.
Unfortunately I don't have any mail accounts now. I could reconfigure all of the accounts but it would take a while and I am hoping there is an easier way. I have full time machine backups and have been searching for how to restore my missing mail accounts. Many fixes mentioned the com.apple.plist file. In mountain lion in the user library there is only a file called com.apple.plist.lockfile. Restoring this didn't bring back my old mail accounts.
I then found a thread about going to the preferences/mail folder and restoring the com.apple.plist file from there but that didn't work either.
Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to restore my mail accounts via the time machine or any other method?
    Cheers

  • Mountain Lion and Mavericks with new SSD

I tried Yosemite on my MBA (mid-2011) and lost my hard drive. Apple replaced it with an SSD at no charge
since my Apple Care had only recently expired. Now I need to find my 2013 tax return on my Seagate
external hard drive but cannot find it on Time Machine backups. Can you help me?
The lost hard drive was using Mountain Lion. The new SSD has Mavericks.

Well, the only place for your records would be on your backup(s). The hard drive was replaced, so there is nothing there unless Apple restored all your data from your old drive to the new one after the replacement. If they didn't, then your only hope is your backup.
