Lost 'mask' (using alt key) in exposure and sharpening?

The black or white 'mask' by using the alt key in exposure adjustments AND the 'mask' while adjusting amount, detail and unsharp mask in sharpening is missing for me.  The only difference I can think of is that LR  is now on a new notebook (ASUS) and am now working with Windows 7 64-bit.  Is there something I can do to re-gain those helpful masks?  Any idea what happened?  I'm in the middle of nowhere and don't have a lot of wireless time to research . . . Any help or suggestion will be appreciated. Joia

Well guys, everything checks out good - specs are fine and both alt keys work.  The touchpad is, however, a big problem and seems to be the culprit.  It switches between being hypersensitive (giving me only a quick flash of the mask) or unresponsive (the sliders do not move at all).
We plugged in a mouse and I now have control of both the masks and sliders.
Thanks again for responding - otherwise I probably would have given up for now while we're on the road - got a lot of work to do.  Cheers!  Joia

  • Focus lost when pressing ALT key

    Hi,
    is there any way to prevent the focus to be lost when pressing ALT key in an AIR app??
    I tried event.preventDefault() in KEY_UP and KEY_DOWN events but it doesn't work
    when the user press the ALT key, the stage loses the focus
    thanks

    I am now having trouble with the same issue. I have tried removing the ALT key from the Input Map from my frame and the component I'm having trouble with. I have also tried setting my own action in the action map for this. We also tried listening for the key pressed event and putting focus back to the combobox where I want focus to remain. I am now working on trying to use the processKeyEvent method to handle this, but have not had any luck as of yet with that. If anyone has some help on this, I'd greatly appreciate it!

  • Using alt key in console vim.

    Hi folks,
    Does anyone out there have a working method for using alt-<key> mappings in vim on the console? I've read a fair amount and the consensus seems to be "tweak all these different things to find what works on your system". So, what works on Arch (on a standard PC)?
    First off, I read this:
    http://vimdoc.sourceforge.net/htmldoc/m … p-alt-keys
    I am currently trying some vim maps like
    nmap <a-s> <C-w>s
    And I'm using urxvt, so have tried the following in my .Xdefaults:
    URxvt*meta8:true
    This stops urxvt from converting alt key presses into esc-<key> patterns, but it's not activating the vim map. (It works in gvim BTW).
    Has anyone got this to work? Or is the consensus that esc-<key> patterns are the way to go, with a .vimrc adapted to accept them, e.g. as in this:
    http://vim.wikia.com/wiki/Fix_meta-keys … nsert_mode
    A working config would be much appreciated!
    Pete.

    Ah ha - okay. So you're using escapes too, rather than meta8 (this is the default, so makes sense). Yeah, I got it working doing that, but had to adapt my .vimrc to get it to acknowledge the ^[ as "alt". Didn't you, or did a simple map of e.g. <A-a> suffice?
    Are you running it in screen/tmux btw? and what is your TERM set to?
    Yeah, I thought that too and though I do run it in tmux usually, I've been testing it both with and without (TERM is set to screen-256color BTW) and it made no difference. Still, unless I specifically map the ^[ to alt in vim, it doesn't work. With meta8 it works so long as the locale is not UTF-8.
    Guess I've got a workaround for now, but it would be nice if meta8 and utf-8 worked nicely together.
    Thanks.
    Could you please show how your vimrc looks like? I have the same problem and I'm interested in your workaround.

  • Re: Using Alt-Key combinations

    Unfortunately this happens not only with Alt-Key combinations. It also
    happens with the ordinary F10 key: Windows activates the menu and then
    Forte gets the FKey event. The problem is that now the user has to press
    ESC to deactivate the menu and continue normal processing. There is no
    known cure yet...

    trying to find a menu item with that shortcut combination or a button with
    that combination. Since Windows can not find the proper element with that
    combination, it beeps at us. At that point, Forte picks up the key
    combination and will post the FunctionKeyPress event.
    The application will work fine, but the beep is not only annoying, but also
    is misleading for those individuals using accessibility tools like screen
    readers who rely upon audible queues for detecting errors in keyboarding.
    Has anyone found any viable solutions to this problem?--

  • Lasso tool problem, using alt key, no click within 5sec causes loss of active window focus

    I have been using Photoshop since ver. 4 and have never seen this happen.  The only difference is now I'm on Windows 7 64bit.  Did not have this problem with XP.  Current version CS3 Extended.
    Problem: While using Lasso tool with the alt key if I do not make a mouse click in 5 seconds Photoshop's active window loses focus for a split second and then the first point of my selection and the last point will connect.  Thus, wasting my time and my attempt at a selection.
    I have task bar buttons to "Never combine".  I see for that split second what appears to be another program button opening but it is so fast that I cannot see if there is a name on the task bar button.  The current Photoshop button moves to the right and back too fast.  This all happens very quickly as the window loses focus.
    I first thought it was some another program but after many searches found nothing I can identify as the cause.
    Right before posting this I had a thought and did a test that concluded in the 5 sec rule. For over a minute I held down the alt key and made a mouse click within the 5 second window of time and there was no loss of window focus.  While still holding down the alt key in this same test but not making a mouse click within 5 seconds the window lost focus and the tool stopped with my selection.
    I have a wireless Logitech M305 mouse that this morning updated the driver to its current version 5.20.51, Control Center version: 6.20.50.
    I have not tested a wired mouse, yet.
    Any help would be appreciated.  Anyone else seen this?  Windows 7 64 bit the culprit?????

    UPDATE
    After I removed Photoshop from Norton 360's Administrative Settings_Silent Mode Settings_User-Specified Programs, I did not have the problem with the lasso tool that I first had with loss of window focus.  I then put Photoshop back in the 360's settings and the lasso tool still worked, BUT...............
    After a couple of days of not using Photoshop and turning computer on and off in that time, I tried Photoshop again and the same problem, it came back.  Loss of focus after 5 seconds of not clicking mouse.  So, once again I open Norton and took Photoshop out of the User-Specified Programs and the problem went away, no loss of focus.
    So, I will see if after a couple of days of turning on and off the computer and NOT putting Photoshop in the Norton's User-Specified Programs setting if the problem stays fixed.
    I don't have to have Photoshop in the Norton's setting I just thought that it would be a good idea so Norton didn't try to do any background processes or whatever while I was working in Photoshop or I was rendering a filter or something.
    Another thought I also have the Full Screen Detection setting ON.  I do use Photoshop in Full Screen mode so maybe when having both the Full Screen mode and User-Specified Programs setting selected it makes something go wacky.
    Hope this helps anyone having the same problem I "did".  Will post back after a few days to let you know if focus problem is gone.
    If it does relieve the problem then I will leave Photoshop off the list in Norton.  No sense in trying to fix something that really doesn't matter, really.
    UPDATE 2
    January 8, 2011, I tried the lasso tool again and it still appears to be working. I did my standard test of holding the alt key and clicking to make selections then not click for 5 seconds or more and I did not lose window focus.  I do not know why the Norton 360 setting triggers the loss of focus but since I turned that setting off I'm not having any problem.
    Will update again if something changes.
    Anyone else out there with the same problem that was solved using this method?

  • Using ALT key in list view doesn't quite work like it used to...

    I haven't used this feature since OS9 so please excuse my ignorance!
    In OS9 when viewing files in Finder in List view, one used to be able to open subfolders by holding down the ALT key while clicking the folder triangle. Close the main folder and ALT-clicking open again would open a second level of subfolders et cetera.
    However, in OS X it appears that ALT-clicking a folder's triangle now opens ALL subfolders in one go (which can hold up the Finder quite a bit if you have a lot of stuff), and ALT-clicking the folder's triangle to CLOSE the folder doesn't close all the subfolders in one go (they are all open within the main folder).

    A faster way, which works for me when I have logged out, is to log in, get the Discussions home page and then hit reload, which takes me to the thread I was looking for.
    Hope this works for you,the alternative is to keep logged-in in your browser and avoid all this.

  • My navigation bar will only remain in view for one request after using alt key

    Everything worked fine for over a year on Mozilla firefox, suddenly I have no navigation or tool bar. If I press the alt key the bar appears and I am able to click on one command and then the bar disapears again. I followed the instructions online and clicked on the restore default bar, to no avail. It is a royal pain to have to alt key to open a new tab from the bookmarks everytime. If I can't figure it out I will have to stop using firefox which until now I was in love with. Please Help

    After pressing Alt, in the View menu select Toolbars, then click on "Menu Bar" in the list of toolbars. That should make it permanently display.

  • Using Alt+Key shortcuts in Chromeless application makes windows beep

    Tell me I'm correct about the following:
    It is impossible to use mx:MenuBar with mnemonics and/or have 'Ctrl+Alt+Key' appear in the menu as you can with FlexNativeMenu or NativeMenu.
    It is impossible to use any Alt+Key shortcuts to activate a control without Windows® beeping at you when you use the key.
    It is impossible to use a s:Button or even an mx:Button with an underlined letter without making a specific skin just for that button.
    It is impossible to comprehend why such a standard activation method -- using the Alt+Key would be overlooked by a company leading the pack in RIA or any other type of interface development.
    So who is on drugs, I hope it is me and not Adobe.
    Wait, don't tell me-- you want me to extend your framework so it includes these fundamental things??

    After further research, the way to get around alt-key beeping and get rid of the system menu in a chromeless app is to use:
    stage.displayState = StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE;
    and then do some restructuring so your outer client window is now fully transparent and has no skin, and your inner client window is a child who can be moved or sized in its container.
    But, this solution does not allow native window states: Minimized, etc. The best you can do is emulate them, but the OS will only see a window that only has one possible state.
    Since it has no system/native menu, the OS won't beep on alt+key. I am speaking of windows only, and have no idea what goes on in a Mac environment with this work-around.

  • Problems with FF orange-tab menu coming down when I use Alt keys

    I have had this small issue since yesterday which is more confusing than anything.
    When I go to type something, and use the alt keys plus the numbers for designs, the little orange FF tab on the top left-hand corner pulls down the drop-menu, and has 'Files' highlighted, plus it makes my computer make the Windows Default Beep, which I disabled because it was just annoying. I am having no notices of anything causing this, but this looks like the only browser that does it, because I went and played around with IE and Chrome, and nothing happened that I could see or hear of.
    Thanks for any insight!

    Try to switch on Num Lock if you need to use Alt + number keys.

    Hi
    Sounds like you would need a new keyboard.
    You can order all compatible parts from the Toshiba ASP in your country.
    Also the keyboard.
    The service technicians could order the part directly from the Toshiba.
    Generally the keyboard replacement is not very difficult but if you have no experience in such replacements a help from ASP would be requisite.

  • Keword Order Using Alt Key

    I edited a keyword set and placed each of the keywords in a specific order so that alt-1 was word1, alt-2 word2, etc.
    However, when I quit and restarted LR 2.1, they re-appeared in seemingly random order. Am I missing something or is there a way to keep the original order?
    Cheers,
    John

    Holy Keyword, Batman!
    I just noticed something and it seems Lr 1.4.1 had the same feature. When the Keyword panel of the Library module is active and you press the Alt key you will notice that numbers appear for each keyword in a Keyword Set. These numbers would be the ones you press in conjunction with the Alt key to assign a keyword from the set.
    Suddenly this Alt+1, Alt+2 ... to assign a keyword from a set makes sense!

  • Custom non-PersistenceCapable classes used as keys in Maps and/or SortedMaps?

    Hi all,
    I need to support custom non-PC classes as keys in SortedMaps. It takes

    Matthew-
    Can you just make the key implement Serializable and store it as a blob

    have other restrictions?

  • Af:inputListOfValues sets value of first item in result set when using enter key or tab and component set to autosubmit=true

    I'm using JDev 11.1.1.6 and when I type a value into an af:inputListOfValues component and hit either the enter key or the tab key it will replace the value I entered with the first item in the LOV result set. If enter a value and just click out of the af:inputListOfValues component it works correctly. If I use the popup and search for a value it works correctly as well. I have a programmatic view object which contains a single transient attribute (this is the view object which is used to create the list of value component from) and then I have another entity based view object which defines one of its attributes as a list of value attribute. I tried using an entity based view object to create the LOV from and everything works as expected so I'm not sure if this is a bug when using programmatic view objects or if I need more code in the VOImpl. Also, it seems that after the first time of the value being replaced by the first value in the result set that it will work correctly as well. Below are some of the important code snippets.
    Also, it looks like it only doesn't work if the text entered in the af:inputListOfValues component would only have a single match returned in the result set. For instance given the result set in the code: Brad, Adam, Aaron, Fred, Charles, Charlie, Jimmy
    If we enter Cha, the component works as expected
    If we enter A, the component works as expected
    If we enter Jimmy, the component does not work as expected and returns the first value of the result set ie. Brad
    If we enter Fred, the component does not work as expected and returns the first value of the result set ie. Brad
    I also verified that I get the same behavior in JDev 11.1.1.7

    I have found a solution to this issue. It seems that when using a programmatic view object which has a transient attribute as its primary key you need to override more methods in the ViewObjectImpl so that it knows how to locate the row related to the primary key when the view object records aren't in the cache. This is why it would work correctly sometimes but not all the time. Below are the additional methods you need to override. The logic you use in retrieveByKey would be on a view object by view object basis and would be different if you had a primary key which consisted of more than one attribute.
    @Override
    protected Row[] retrieveByKey (ViewRowSetImpl viewRowSetImpl, Key key, int i) {
        return retrieveByKey(viewRowSetImpl, null, key, i, false);
    @Override
    protected Row[] retrieveByKey (ViewRowSetImpl viewRowSetImpl, String string, Key key, int i, boolean b) {
        RowSetIterator usersRowSetIterator = this.createRowSet(null);
        Row[] userRows = usersRowSetIterator.getFilteredRows("UserId", key.getAttribute(this.getAttributeIndexOf("UserId")));
        usersRowSetIterator.closeRowSetIterator();
        return userRows;
    @Override
    protected Row[] retrieveByKey (ViewRowSetImpl viewRowSetImpl, Key key, int i, boolean b) {
        return retrieveByKey(viewRowSetImpl, null, key, i, b);

  • Why are all my keyboard shortcuts using the "Alt" key instead of the "Ctrl" key? I'm using Windows 7 and Firefox 5.0.1.

    I recently downloaded Firefox 5 and noticed that all my keyboard shortcuts default to using "Alt" key instead of the "Ctrl" key (so, for example, opening a new tab is Alt + T instead of Ctrl + T).
    I noticed that this is even true for copying and pasting within Firefox (Alt + C and Alt + P are the only commands that work).
    Any idea why this is happening? I am running Windows 7 and Firefox 5.0.1.
