  • Microsoft Office Starter is a 32 bit program, why was it sold with my 64 bit Window 7 PC?

I purchased my PC because it came with Microsoft Office 2010 (so said the advertisement). I installed the Microsoft Office Starter as I was prompted. There was no option to select my OS otherwise I would've selected Windows 7 64 bit. I noticed the program
was installed as 32 bit and Word will not print my files. Why would you develop a 32 bit program to be sold on a 64 bit Operating System? Is there a 64 bit version I can download that I'm unaware of?

    Hello,
As mentioned in the TechNet article, the 32-bit version of Office 2010 provides the same functionality and is also compatible with 32-bit add-ins. Therefore, the 32-bit version
of Office 2010 is installed by default.
64bit Office has better performance when running a single Excel larger than 2GB and also better performance when using Project files.
For normal use, 32bit Office did provide good performance
    and more compatibility with existing
    32-bit add-ins.
So, don’t worry about the 32bit or 64bit, go and enjoy Office 2010 new features!

  • Is the microsoft office starter program that is on my computer a 90 day free trial

is the microsoft office starter that is on my computer is a 90 day free trial

    Hi:
Office 2010 Starter is not trialware. You can use it for free as long as you own your PC.
    It is ad supported software.
You have the option to upgrade to another version of Office 2010 for a price.
One thing that is important to know however.
If you uninstall it, you can never reinstall it.
If you have to recover your PC to factory specs the program is not included on the recovery partition or recovery disks.

  • After installing Lion I lost Microsoft Office. Is there a patch or way to restore excel

After installing OS Lion Microsoft Office with Word & Excel was lost. How can I recover those programs?

This is something else: Office 2004, based on PPC code, cannot be used in Lion. This is sad, as 2004 was the best MS Office ever. If you like it, stay with Leopard or SL, if Lion, then 2011 (and 2008, I guess).

  • Uploaded Mtn Lion, Lost Microsoft Office. Now they want me to buy it again?  Anyone else have this experience/solution?

My Microsoft Office Suite required an "upgrade" which cost exactly what the original price of the software was.  The message came to me immediately after uploading Mountain Lion.  Is this standard operating proceedure for Mountain Lion?
BTW, I am located in Mongolia and cannot access the "upgrade" required from here, so have effectively lost a sizable amount of software with Mountain Lion.

but I can tell you that it's pretty standard for Microshaft to squeeze everything they possibly can out of you.
    What?  That's crazy.
In 2005 Apple annouced they would be transitioning from IBM's PowerPC processors (G3, G4,G5) to chips manufactured by Intel for their Mac line.  This was a huge decision.  Huge, for both users and developers, but necessary to take advantage of the best and fastest processors available for both customers and developers.
Apple continued to maintain compatibility for apps written for the IBM chips for years with Rosetta and other technologies. But eventually the time came to make a clean break in order to keep the Mac platform moving forward without the excess baggage necessary for backward compatibility.
That time was with the launch of Lion OS X 10.7 last year and continuing with Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.  No secret was made of this to developers.
Versions of Office prior to Office 2008 were written for the PowerPC processor.
So, for better or worse, if you want to run the latest Mac operating system, you also have to be running the latest versions of your favorite software.
There is no conspiracy.  The writing's been on the wall for years.

  • I have lost microsoft office 2007 from my system. What should I do get it back?

I have lost my office 2007.

If you no longer have the software and product key you can't use Microsoft Office. The system usually comes with the trial version, so it's likely that you never had a product key.
You'll need to use MS Works, Buy MS Office, or find a free alternative such as OpenOffice.Org The key on the label beneath the notebook is for Windows, NOT Office.

  • What happened to the Microsoft Office suite when I loaded Lion?

I loaded Lion operating system last night and rushed without reading all of the fine print. After the Lion was loaded I received a notice that Microsoft Office Suite was not supported. My questions are, 1) Can Lion support the Microsoft Office Suites (maybe a newer version) 2) Can I return to the previous Operating System?
    Never mind!
    Thanks

    1. Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 & 2011 versions support OS X Lion
    2. Yes, you can downgrade to Snow Leopard if you have up-to-date Time Machine backups, however I won't recommend you to do that.
Over the weekend Microsoft published a knowledge base article that outlines some known issues with Office for Mac on OS X 10.7. Overall, if you have Office 2004 and rely on it, then do not upgrade to OS X Lion until you have an alternative Office version installed (2008 or preferably 2011). Office 2004 is PowerPC code, and as with Intuit's Quicken 2007 and earlier versions, if you install Lion then you will not be able to launch Office 2004.

  • Lost microsoft office tools with mountain lion install

I installed Mountain Lion and now my Microsoft Office Tools are gone?

I'm using Entourage just fine, which is good because Apple Mail is almost as bad as Outlook.  However, with Entourage, I had to delete all the preferences files and rebuild the database, as it was very pokey after the upgrade.
I'm using Office 2011 apps, and those are fine.  Sorry, but I abandoned the rest of the 2008 suite a while back.... but I just tested Word 2008 and it worked OK... although still much slower launching than 2011, which is almost instantaneous.
Make sure you have a full backup, such as with SuperDuper, on a bootable firewire drive before you attempt it.  Better safe than sorry.

  • Will microsoft office disappear when I upgrade to Yosemite?

How do I upgrade without losing the microsoft office suite?

You just upgrade... Of course, you should have a backup of your computer first, just in case something goes wrong.
Upgrading OS X will not delete installed software from your computer unless it is incompatible.
So long as you're running Office 2008 or 2011, you should be fine.

  • Microsoft office crashes when trying to print

Hi, upgraded my Mac from Maverick to Yosemite and now my Excel, Word, Powerpoint randomly crash when i try to print (doesnt matter if i try to print to an actual printer or make it into a pdf.). At the beginning I noticed that especially it happened when i want to print just 1 page out of a longer Word document OR i am changing from letter to ledger size in Excel but now there is no rhyme or reason.
I did the Office updates, re-started obviously but as i am not very good at this software troubleshooting then i am at loss...
    Hopefully someone can help!

here is the crash report (if i got it right)

  • Lost contacts and calendar when restoring palm profile on replacement Pre

After nearly 90 days from launch date, and totally loving my Pre, I took it into the Sprint store to show them what looks like screen separation inside the screen.  Sprint deemed it reasonable to replace the phone, and gave me a refurbished Pre.  Not keen on that, but as long as it is the same warranty, I guess that is OK.  All is well with my new Pre with one huge exception.  While I had backed up pictures and music to my computer, I was relying on the "cloud" to back up contacts and calendar.  Bad assumption.  After I signed into my Palm profile with the new Pre, I got my apps back, but no contacts or calendar.  After hours on the phone with multiple Sprint and Palm support people and several partial resets, I am now on a list to get a call-back from a Palm engineer.  The kicker is that it could be up to two weeks before I get my call-back, and I am guessing if I miss that call, I'll have to wait another two weeks.  I live and die by the calendar I kept on my Pre, so I am fried now.  This is low class and low quality customer support.  Anyone with a similar experience?  Similar problem?  Suggestions on approaches to take to get Palm's attention to get this fixed?  Thanks.
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

I too found out the hard way that not all contacts get backed up to your Palm Profile.  When I purchased my first palm pre back in June, I imported all of my contacts using pocketmirror.  I assumed that since they're now on the pre, they'd be automagically backed up to my Palm Profile.  Not true!  I recieved a replacement palm pre after my first one started developing small cracks on the edge of the screen plastic.  BTW, these cracks were not due to abuse, but apparently cheap material.  Additionally, the refurbished pre they sent me has a bad "oreo" effect and is very sloppy, but that's a story for another time (hint: google "palm pre oreo").  After activating the refurbished pre, I found that none of my important contacts were pulled down from my Palm Profile.  At this point I contacted sprint support and spent over 5 hours of tech support hell being transferred between sprint and palm multiple times.  I was so far beyond frustration and fury, I was ready to physically assault someone...  After these 5 hours, I was no closer to salvaging my contacts from my old palm pre.  Sprint reactivated the old one, but every time it booted up it would only give me two options; to "Just restart" or "Erase all data."  Pressing "Just restart" would reboot the phone and 3 minutes later would show the exact same screen with the same useless options.  Obviously, erasing all data was not what I wanted to accomplish.  Ultimately, Palm support told me there was no way to recover anything off the old phone and argued with me telling me that the contacts I wanted were not stored physically inside the flash memory in the old phone.  This was purely incorrect as I was finally able to hack a way into my old pre and move the contacts that only existed in the contacts application (not my Palm Profile) over to my replacement pre (this involved some linux skills and completely unsupported procedures, but it worked).  It was obvious that the Palm support tech was either ill informed or ill equipped to assist me in any way.
For anyone that may end up in the same position, I had to bypass the broken activation screen that I was stuck at on my old pre using details here:
    http://www.webos-internals.org/wiki/Patch_webOS_Bypassing_Activation
I was then able to gain access to the filesystem itself and copy everything out of /var (the really important file is PalmDatabase.db3 which holds all of your contacts, calendar, synergy links, IM/SMS threads, etc.):
    http://www.webos-internals.org/wiki/Important_Personal_Data_Locations
At any rate, I hope this helps someone who ends up in a similar situation.  The solution is far from elegant, but provided you have or know someone who has some linux experience, it's possible to migrate almost everything from one pre to another.  As for me, I'm THOROUGHLY DISAPPOINTED with the hardware quality of the pre and the lack of options available to backup/migrate data on a pre (the Palm Profile cloud has failed me here).  I may soon drop this headache and follow the rest of my linux friends by moving to an android device.
