Lost most of the library in I Tunes

I lost 12000 songs from the library on I tunes as well as all the playlists. What can I do to get that back? I still have the music files, but the songs in there are not in the library. I can put them one one by one, but that takes years. I have one file (damaged) Itunes library.

Sometimes you can pull up old itune libraries.
Go to start. Hold down shift, select 'all programs', select 'itunes'. Then a screen with three options will pop up. Select 'choose different library'.
Otherwise you can purchase a program called transipod, which allows you to take the songs off of your ipod and put them back onto your computer. Just make sure you create a new library because then your ipod wont automatically sync.... the only problem with this is any song that has the same name, for some reason it will only download one of them... Its better to be missing a few songs then an entire library!

  • HT1364 after moving itunes media folder to different disk drive i think i have lost most of my library how can i get it back?

due to lack of memory space i moved my itunes media library, only now i think i have lost most of my library as the i tunes page comes up empty,no playlists,no music, no music videos,no tv shows. can anyone help?

    Hong Kong,
I don't think it is lost.  I think it is on the other hard drive where you put it.
There are better and worse ways to move a library.  If possible, put it back the way it was, and then move it by following this guide: iTunes for Windows: Moving your iTunes Media folder

Have you copied your content over from your old computer and onto the new on ? If not, and you still have your old computer, then there a number of methods described on this page which you can use to copy your library over : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 . If you no longer have your old computer then have you got a backup of your content that you can copy onto the new computer and add into iTunes ?

  • Lost most of the default apps

Im running newest IoS on my ipod (4th gen, 5.1.1) and after i reset my ipod it lost most of the apps it started with, like camera and safari. How can i recover these?

Default apps that come pre-bundled with the OS cannot be removed.  Are you sure they weren't moved to another page or folder of Apps on the device?  Can you locate them the Spotlight Search function that is accessible by swiping to the right from the iPod's home screen?
Also make sure they have not been disabled via Restrictions.  Head to Settings -> General -> Restrictions to check.

  • I recently lost most of my library content, but have all music on my ipod nano.  Is it possible to restore the list on my computer from my ipod.  I do not want to hook up only to begin sync and loose info on my ipod as it is my only source for my library.

I lost much of the music in the itunes library on my computer, but all songs are on my ipod.  Am I able to safely put the songs from my ipod back to my itunes music library  ( safely)??

Disable Autosyncing via iTunes Preferences first.  Head to Edit -> Preferences and click the Devices tab and make sure there is a tick mark next to disabling autosync.  Then take a look at this older post from another forum member Zevoneer for different ways of copying content from your iPod back to your PC.

  • ITunes 7.0.2 Lost most of the music in my library - HELP

I've been using iTunes for a long time with no problems. Suddenly most of my music library is showing up as missing. I checked and all of the songs are still on my disk and a second copy backup as well. I tried using an older version of the library file and that didn't work. I was able to relink one of the songs by going out and finding it but that would be a huge effort to relink all my songs back to the library. I have over 16000 songs and more than half are missing! Please help me to figure out what is going on and fix the problem. Thanks. Ann

Any restrictions set up in Settings/General/'Restrictions? If yes, disable them.

  • Lost most of iPhoto library/iPhoto won't open

First, we recently somehow lost our daughter's prom pictures from both iPhoto and devices. So I thought I should check to see if Time Machine was working (250MB Lacie external) and it wasn't. Thought I had better back up what was on Lacie to hard drive then back to Lacie then make Lacie our Time machine backup.  When I transferred the photos I thought I was asked if I wanted to keep the old pix or keep the new ones. I thought it meant duplicate pix but it apparently meant the whole photo file. Fortunately we have backed our photos to CD/DVD at the end of each year but lost most 2013 photos.
Next, when I try to open iPhoto I get the messsage: "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared.
To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple." with 2 buttons "Learn More" and "Quit" So I downloaded the upgrader but I have a later version of iPhoto so it had no effect. It just goes round and round after that.
I'm hoping someone can help here before calling Apple. We bought the 3 year AppleCare package but would prefer to see solutions in writing first.
    Thanks

Assuming you have iPhoto 9 (11) or later  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • I recently restored my i-pod nano but it will not automatically load the library from i-tunes. I've checked

I recently restored my i-pod nano version 1.1.3, Model MA426LL.  When I open I-tunes on windows 8 the library doesn't automatically download. @witsend

When I open I-tunes on windows 8 the library doesn't automatically download.
When you say "download," you are referring to your iTunes library syncing to the iPod, correct?  Not something downloading from the Interent to your computer...
If you want to use automatic syncing, you need to set it up in iTunes.  First, if the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  The iPod appears under DEVICES in the sidebar, when connected.
Select the iPod in the sidebar.  The iPod's Summary screen appears to the right.  Toward the top, there is a bar of buttons, starting with Summary; click on Music next toSummary.  This Music screen is where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to your iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music.  This setting enables automatic syncing.  If your iTunes music library is small enough to fit on the iPod's storage, you can choose the option to sync Entire music library.  That syncs everything that is music.  Otherwise, choose the option to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Then, select (checkmark) what you want on the iPod from the lists below.  One convenient way to set this up is to create one or more playlists in your iTunes library, and put ALL of the songs you want on the iPod on those playlists.  (Or you can use existing playlists.)  Back on the iPod's Music screen, select the playlists under Playlists.
When you click Apply, the songs in your selection(s) sync to the iPod.  Going forward, to update songs on the iPod, update those playlists in your iTunes library (add/remove songs).  The iPod does not need to be connected.  The next time you connect the iPod (or click Sync if already connected), iTunes updates the iPod with the same changes automatically.

  • I lost most of the music on my iPod.

Recently I synced my 5th gen. touch to my computer. Afterwards I noticed that most of the music on my iPod was not there. The music I had lost was stuff my dad bought on his account that I moved over to my computer via portable hard drive. That music is no longer on my iPod and even though it still has the artists all of the songs have the downloading circle next to it. It's all still on my computer but how do I get it back on the iPod?   (Note: The only music left on there is what I have personally bought) Re-syncing hasn't helped, anything else I could try?

  • Itunes Has lost connection with the library

    Hello,
a few days ago I opened iTunes and all of my library was gone. I forgot what the exact message was, but something had become damaged. I still have all my files, but iTunes cant "see" where they are. What do I need to do to restore iTunes so it can find all of my music and podcasts?
    Thanks!

    *Adding new items/removing orphans*
Try iTunes Folder Watch or iTunes Library Updater. Folder Watch is much faster on the adding files front, can be set to run in the background and includes a useful exclusion feature, however it’s slow at removing orphans. iTLU is better for this although doing it manually after looking at a list of proposed removals generated by Folder Watch is probably faster still. iTLU can also be set to update iTunes when you've used 3rd party tools to change tag info.
You may need to amend the list of file types these programs look for. My list includes:
    .mp3 .mp4 .m4a .m4b .m4p .m4v .mov .wav .aif .mid .ipa .ipg .ite .itlp .m4r .pdf
Note the last 6 types may not be recognised as already being in the library so should either be omitted from the search or you can add (at least for Folder Watch) individual exclusions for files you know are already in your library.

  • I seem to have lost most of my library

I moved my iTunes files to a portable extrenal Hard Drive because i had to get the files off a work computer. But I seemed to have lost half if not most of my music files and all my playlist. Can I recover all that off my ipod? Please tell me how I don't want to reload all those CD's again. I have tried to look on the old C drive but nothing comes up any suggestions?

If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.

  • HOW DO I TRANSFER MUSIC FROM MY IPOD TO A 2ND COMPUTER THAT HAS LOST MOST OF THE MUSIC IN ITUNES WITHOUT LOOSING THE MUSIC WHICH IS NOW ON MY IPOD

MY OLD COMPUTER HAS THE CORRECT MUSIC INSTALLED IN ITUNES.
I HAVE NOW INSTALLED THE CORRECT MUSIC ON MY IPOD-NANO
I HAVE A 2ND COMPUTER WITH AN INCORRECT MUSIC LIST IN ITUNES.
I NEED TO COPY THE CORRECT MUSIC TO COMPUTER 2 FROM MY IPOD WITHOUT LOOSING WHAT IS ON THE IPOD.
    THANK YOU

Typing in all caps indicates shouting is considered rude and is difficult to read.  Many simply do not read such posts.
The music sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The exception is itunes purchases.  File>Transfer Purchases
You need to copy everything from one computer to the other.
