** lost multi clip ability...

Hi
I seemed to have lost multi clip ability...
I have a multi clip in timeline, i dbl click its in the viewer showin two feeds.
Yesterday when I synced I could play the timeline and the viewer would follow.
I cannot do this today, not sure why also my (play multi clip) from the RT drop down is not there. I do not know if I have done something that has change the settings.
Is there something I am missing?
I need to somehow get this working as it was before, any ideas?
Please any help would be grateful

3 Questions for you:
1. Where is the source media located?
2. Has your timeline been completely rendered?
3. Can you verify that the "Show Multiclip Angles" in the View menu is checked?

  • Audio Switching in Multi Clips

I'm using FCP 6.0.3 and have assembled 2 multi clips. Each multi clip as video from 2 cameras. In the second multi clip, by selecting Audio-->All in the Viewer window and selecting my timeline window, I can set edit points that allow me to change which camera's audio feed is being used. However, in the first Multi clip, I only appear to have the ability to use only a single audio for the entire clip. It "beeps" at me whenever I attempt to set new edit points for Audio.
Is there any kind of feature I may have inadvertently enabled (i.e. via a keyboard short cut) that would prevent me from setting audio edit points to switch between the audio of the 2 cameras.
NOTE - I do not want to switch the audio stream every time the I set a video edit point. Rather I am looking to use the audio mainly from 1 camera but selectively use the other camera's audio when someone was talking near the mic of the first camera.

I'd think you could make a 2 pass sort of multiclip edit that would work for you. Select the video only to be edited, then go through another pass of the material and select the audio to be edited only. It's done from the pop up menu in the Viewer. (the little oval button on the far right upper center just over the picture.

  • Multi-clip almost never works for me on the first attempt

Anybody know why when setting up a multi-clip, I can almost
never get it to work the first time I hit the timeline to start playing.
All my settings are correct, but either the viewer or timeline doesn't move on the first time try.
All I do is take my playhead back to the beginning of
timeline, hit play again, and usually it then starts working correctly. Sometimes I have better results if I hit the play in the Viewer instead of the Timeline, but it's not a consistent thing.
Again, I'm in open sync in Viewer and Canvas/Timeline, I'm in Unlimited RT, dynamic video quality and frame rate, multiclip activated there, turned off high quality scrubbing, ect.
I'm usually doing this with (3) short 3 minutes DV clips
    on a mac book pro.
When I do get it going after the second, third or fourth attempt, I haven't changed any of the settings,...I've just confirmed that they were right to begin with.
Anybody else experience this and any ideas on how to get it to work correctly first time out?
    Thanks.

so effectively it's on a different drive, sort of
But still using the same reader heads as your primary drive. So technically, it's still the same drive.
I just cut a 4 angle music video last week using my MacPro at work, and even with the source media on a FW800 G-Raid, I was still getting delayed playback and couldn't even view the 4-up display when playing back. So I moved the project to our XSAN, and with the fibre backbone there, bandwidth was definitely increased.
So the other variable in this problem is bandwidth as well as RAM. I know that a fibre based storage system isn't in everyone's budget, but I'd recommend trying out an eSATA based drive, given that I had trouble with 4 streams over FW800.

  • Line Up Clips for a Multi-clip Edit

Hi I am editing a dance video, when it was recorded at the event a few of the camera people decided to pause after every song - this has made it a hassle to edit. I am trying to line up the clips to get them all in sync for a multi-clip. The only way I could think of to do this was give each camera angle a track and line them up that. I almost have them all lined up, but I have no idea how to make it back into one clip, since it is currently cut into tons of pieces. How do I combine them back into one clip? The closest I could find was Nesting, but that creates a sequence, and I can't make a Multi-clip out of sequences.
Each video track is a different angle, the screenshot I posted doesn't show all of the clips lined up, because I didn't get quite that far. How can I make this into a multi-clip
I just started using Final Cut about a week ago and I don't really know how it all works....yet.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Multi-clip help!!!!

I have a project with 17 seperate multiclips. I first started making 1 multi-clip then editing it, then making the next and editing that and so on..... After making the 2nd multi-clip, when i try to edit it, the viewer locks up and wont let me change angles or between open and sync off. I get a message saying..
"Sequence error: Unable to add clip to sequence.
Possible media limits problem in clip or sequence."
Now this problem is solved by restarting FCP, but it persists after i edit one multi-clip??????? Will trashing preferences help???? Maybe I have some setting wrong???? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

If the problem goes away with a restart of FCP it does sound like trashing prefs could help. If it only happens on one certain multi-clip you might have to identify a bad clip that is in that multi-clip. But be aware FCP multi-clip/multi-cam is very powerful but very strange in its operation and behavior. You must research, read and do tutorials before expecting to operate without error.

  • How edit DVCPro HD and HDV footage in the same multi-clip project?

    Dear All
I am to edit a music video material shot with two cameras. I received the footage as .mov files, but one file is a DVCPro HD 1080i50 codec and the other is a HDV 1080i50 codec. - It seems the music concert was recorded on two different cameras (I guess one was Panasonic the other Sony).
How can I edit the music video using multi-clip editing? - I guess I will have to reconvert one of the footage-format to match the other format. If so, which conversion assures the best quality: from DVCPro HD to HDV or vice versa?
Or should I ask for the original tapes and then import all as a HDV codec (is that possible with the DVCPro?)?
I have never worked with the DVCPro codec before. So any links further explanations and tutorials are appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Hynek

    Dear Tom
Thank you for the tip. I converted the DVCPro footage into a HDV file and it looks good. The new file is only 9BG compared to the DVCPro file of 39GB. Quite surprising that such a down-conversion still results in a rather good quality.

  • Only one angle is playing in multi clip sent back to FCP from Color

2 camera Multiclip edited and rendered in FCP 6, sent to color, played ok after color adjustment.
Rendered in color, and sent back to FCP; second angle in the clip is blank (black).
tried different settings in color prior to sending, same result.
The multi clip plays ok in FCP prior to sending to color, and plays ok in color prior to sending to FCP.
Any idea what is being missed here to make second camera show?

The fix you can try is to Media Manage the project exporting the active Multiclip selection as independent. With that, you might even be able to create a new COLOR prj and import color corrections, so not much repeated labour.

  • Multi-clip with different video codecs. Can it be done?

Is it possible to create a multi-clip when using different video codec (i.e. HDV 1080i50 & HDV 1080p25)?
    Thanks.

Nope. Convert one to match the other using Compressor. Or better yet, convert them both to matching ProRes 422 files.

  • Multi-clip - number pad makes marks, but no actual cuts?

4 cameras.  Set up as multi-clip.  The toggle buttons work to cut the angles just fine.  But I can't get the keypad (number pad) to make the cuts.  It makes the marks on the fly.  When I stop the play the marks disappear and there are no actual cuts.  I've done this successfully many times before.  Can't figure out why it isn't working this time, why the marks don't become cuts when I stop the play.
    I bet I've mis-clicked something somewhere.
    Any ideas out there?
    Ben

I gave you a 'This helped me ...' when in fact you deserved a 'This solved my question'.  Thank you mucho Michael.  I work days, weeks, months on FCP ... and forget that I can actually 'set' things differently.  I'm always amazed and pleased when I discover a new keystroke or something ... or rather, when someone introduces me to it.  And immediately incorporate it into my routine.  But I hardly ever go looking for the things.  I just want to get the film cut.  And in FCP, one can go on learning the techno forever it seems ... so many ways to do something.
Really do appreciate your help.  This will very much speed up my day with a deadline looming.
    All the best,
    Ben
P.S.  If there is any way I can go back and give you a "This solved my question," I would do it in a flash.

  • Multi-Clip Scrub Sync Problem

So im editing an 18 multi cam music video... Each clip I didn't sync by time code, but I made a sync mark at each beginning track so I have a basic rough outline reference point. I marked in each clip so it syncs up to that sound marker... And then I multi clip all of them. They are all roughly in sync...
Now im scrubbing the first individual camera 1 so it could be perfectly in-sync with the main song.... Moments later,Camera 1 is all synced up...
Now I check lets say Camera 2 and its completely out of sync its like in the middle of the song, how did it catch up to that point when I didnt even touch/move any other cameras? What do I do?
Its like when I synced the first one clip everything else bounced way out of sync even though I didn't touch it...
I also tried less cameras like 15 and still did it...
    Any idea? Help?
    Thanks guys!
    -B

Well it was a 1 camera shoot project. I just organized each input to match my sound sync... but if i scrub to perfect the clips, the other clips some how go way out of sync, really strange.
Im running on the most up to date quicktime, FCP and OS system... But have a Duel G5 Tower.
What im doing is, Im not perfecting the multiclip file, just gonna cut it together then scrub it on the timeline when its all set in...

  • Multi-clip Question

I'm using Multi-clip in FCP 7 to edit a two cam shoot. I've noticed that after rendering a Multi-clip video track, the independent camera views no longer show in the Viewer. They show when playback is stopped but when playback starts, the Viewer appears just as the Canvas appears and the two run in sync. There is no way to, that I know of, to get back the independent camera displays in the Viewer.
Is there a way to get the Viewer to show the multi-cam displays in the Viewer after a Multi-clip video track is rendered in the timeline?

    Delete your renders.
Multiclip timelines should NEVER be rendered. For a good explanation why, read through the section on multiclip editing in the manual.

  • Multi clip won't open, get general error message

I have a multi clip that contains only 2 clips. When I double click the multi clip, I get a "General Error" "Out of Memory" message. I threw away the preferences and restarted, not sure what else to do. FCP 5.0.6

Probably something to do with having a non-existant version of FCP
Of the 5.0 series, 5.0.4 was the last.
    What do you really have?
Seriously though, what video format are you using, what is your Easy Setup and Sequence Setting?
Where is the source material located on your computer?

  • Multi clip editing

First Multi Clip edit - I can;t find how to adjust a portion of a clip. If I revert back to original media and change a select part - the entire clip changes too.
Mmm, what am I missing/doing wrong, please.
    Keith

The place to do color correction is in the Angle Editor.
Here is a brief support doc summary.
There are also several good video tutorials and demos on the subject. Here's one of them.

  • Multi Clip in Final Cut Pro

I am new to Mac and Final Cut Pro.
I am trying to use multi-clip for a music video.
I have imported 4 video clips (put them on my desktop) into Final Cut Pro,
    rendered each one.
Modified the clips to start at the same, started a new bin, put the clips there,
then I selected them all and Made a Multiclip...it was created.
I started a new sequence, put the new multiclip in the sequence
the problem is here, all the four clips appear in the viewer box but when i push play, they play very, very slow and choppy.  When i select a different clip while these choppyness is playing (it does not modify the multiclip in the timeline).  Also another thing I noticed is that the multiclip in the sequence is not high-lighted in green.
How can I get the multiclips to play smoothly and change screens?
sorry for the poor description, help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you both. I will try to answer the questions to my best.
The video was recorded with Canon60D
    The format is .MOV
    Sequence Preset
    DVC PRO HD 1080i50 FireWire
Michael, how do I check if the scratch disk is formatted mac OS extended?
    Thank you both.
