Lost music again!!!

Hi All,
Right I have managed to find the apporiate Quicktime (without an upgrade) and now have itunes working again.
However, my music is gone of course
When I store - available downloads, nothing happens, when i plug in my iphone, no music copies back now i do have a back up of some of my purchases, however the more recent stuff I have purchased hasnt downloaded, i think my mac is causing me too many problems now a days and almost feels like a PC.
I am tempted to just go back to a PC.
Grrr.... Any suggestions please anything.  Thanks

Hi Sarah34 -
You're NOT alone.  The same thing happens to me routinely.  I may not be able to specifically solve your problem, but I can tell you what I've learned:
1.  You can't just move files with "Finder" in iTunes like you do with other data elsewhere on your machine.  iTunes is a database unto itself, and if you ever change the directory structure or file location with Finder, then iTunes is "lost" and can't find its files.  The good news is that your music isn't actually "gone," it's still on your drive but iTunes just can't see it.
2.  Any change you want in iTunes should be made from within iTunes.  That way, the iTunes database knows where the music is.
3.  The way that most people fix your problem is to open the iTunes preferences panel and then go to the "Advanced" tab.  There is where you'll find the path where iTunes expects to find your media.  Correct that path and iTunes should find your media again.
4.  I agree with you wholeheartedly that iTunes feels more like a PC than any other part of the Mac experience.  Hopefully iTunes 11, which is supposed to release in the next few days, will fix that.
If you keep having problems, you can call AppleCare or you can make a free appointment at your local "Genius Bar" where they have a fairly good track record of being able to not only fix problems like yours but also of being able to explain to you why it happened in the first place.
Good luck!

  • IPhone reset...lost music

Ok so I had an old piece of crap PC, and when me and the ex split up, it "got lost." That is the computer I synced my iPhone with. Anyway, I went for a few months without a computer, and during that time I downloaded some music on my iPhone. I recently got a MacBook and the first time I plugged the iPhone into it, it asked me if I wanted to update to the latest iPhone software... So I did... but during the software update I accidentally unplugged it and had to reset my iPhone. It still kept my pictures and contacts, but all my music is wiped out. iTunes asked me if I wanted to search for available downloads and I did... It downloaded a couple of songs but not many. In my purchase history it shows that I have bought these songs, but if I go to the iTunes store it gives me the "You have already purchased this album" thing and asks me if I want to buy it again... Of course not! I just want to download what I already paid for again! And yes I have authorized this MacBook. So how do I download lost music again?

Normally, purchased music can only be downloaded once as the music companies want payment for each download. In rare circumstances, the Apple Store will authorize an additional download.
Go here and fill out the form: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/browser/
    You may get lucky.

See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
In brief; backup the device, recover what you can from it, download other purchases from the iTunes Store, restore the device, add content, keep a backup of your library in future.

  • How do I retrieve lost music?

Downloaded Itunes on a new computer and am trying to retrieve lost music files.  Everything pulled up when I first clicked the library link.  When I tried to create a playlist, a message kept popping up, saying that I needed to authorize this computer before I do anything else basically.  I then went to account settings, and it showed that the device was authorized.  I thought that maybe it just needed to be reset, so i clicked unauthorize and ok.  I went back to authorize it again and clicked done.  Then went back into the library, and the only songs that where in there, were the ones that made it into the new playlist I created before the authorization message popped up.  How do I get all of my downloaded songs back?  I went from having about 500 songs to about 9!!!!  Help!

  • Got new iPod, deleted iTunes, lost music

My friend recently got a new iPod (and turned the old one in for a discount). My friend's new iPod would not sync with old iTunes, so she tried to upgrade it. For some reason it wouldn't. In frustration, she deleted iTunes from Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. Now she realizes that iTunes is gone and her iPod is empty. Is all of her music gone forever? Or 1) is there a remaining library of music or 2) does the iTunes store allow you to download your purchased music again? Thank you for any assistance!

Hi, the music files should still be on the PC. Here is an article on finding lost music.

  • How do I download music again I have already brought

Ihad to rebot my computer because it started playing up and I need to downloade all my music again that I have already brought so I was just wondering how I do thsi

You CANNOT.  You buy one and only one download. It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup.
Some people have been very lucky and have been allowed a redownload after contacting itunes support, but this is the exception, NOT the rule.
The rule is ( form itunes terms of service):
"PRODUCTS CAN BE DOWNLOADED ONLY ONCE; AFTER BEING DOWNLOADED, THEY CANNOT BE REPLACED IF LOST FOR ANY REASON. YOU SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR BACKING UP YOUR OWN SYSTEM, INCLUDING ANY PRODUCTS PURCHASED OR RENTED FROM THE ITUNES STORE THAT ARE STORED IN YOUR SYSTEM."
    http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html#SERVICE
There is now ay to "do it".
You can try contacting itunes support and asking for an exception as you have been told, but they are under no obligation to allow this.

  • REDEEMING GIFT CERTIFICATE-- LOST MUSIC!  arrrgh

I see a similiar string but not precisely the same issue. Here goes!
I redeemed a gift certificate for the specific album that was gifted to me. I didn't remember my mac password right away and after a few tries, it asked me if I want help. I said 'no' and the download process did not complete (ie no new music in iTunes on my PC). I attempted passwd again and this time got it right... and went to redeem gift certificate again. This time, though-- it listed the goft cert code number and said it was already redeemed... and cannot be redeemed again. Well, I have searched both iTunes and on my PC (in general) and this album is definitely not on my computer. So iTunes store says I have it but I actually never completed the process... and now this music seems to be lost in limbo.
Any ideas here?? Am pulling my hair out over this (what little is left), I don't see anything like this listed in their online support, etc. Arrrgh!

My advice is to contact the iTunes store directly via their email support link. You can find this link when you're in iTunes and you click on the store and then the support link in the right-hand column. Pick a topic "lost music" or something similar and then at the bottom of this page will be an email link with your name and email address already filled in. Report your problem just as you've reported it here and see what they say.
As an aside, I also had a gift certificate that I tried to redeem but the song I wanted was no longer available. My account was charged $0.99. (They must take the money out before the song gets downloaded.) I decided it wasn't worth the effort to try to get back a $1 so I accepted the loss and moved on. A few days later, I'm happy to report, the $0.99 was credited back to my account. Apple discovered the mistake and corrected it without me having to do anything.

  • In need of help regarding lost music

Yesterday, I tried to move music (bought on itunes) from ipod touch to PC. I went to itunes on the computer, clicked file, clicked transfer purchased files and......lost lots of music. Music is not on the PC and no longer on the ipod touch. How do I retrieve the lost music? Keep in mind all itunes are purchased using ipod touch, there isn't a library of music on PC.

What happened when you tried to transfer the music/ Any error messages? Was computer authorized for the itunes account that purchased the music? Did the iPod crash and not complete the transfer? Does the iPad work alright after or did you have to do something with it? You can't redownload music without paying again. However, sometimes you can plead with an iTunes person and they will allow a redownload at no cost.

  • Ipad 2 lost music album artwork after ios 5

ipad 2 lost music album artwork after ios 5 upgrade. After the first Sync, 90% of my albums had blank covers.

I had the same starting with taking 3 times synchronisation before my music library was visible on the Ipad-2. Though during synchronisation I saw the tracks being updating, they were nowhere to find . After a manual sync through devices->NNNipad->music and checking the entire music libary, I got my music libary back with the exception of roughly 10% of the artwork was not transferred. It is not related to manual added artwork as most of them are correctly transfered.
Checking the through info on the albums I found the following issue:
In the past i_tunes kept the artwork related to the album, now it keeps it attached to the several tracks. So when in I-tunes right clicking an album and selecting "info" you will find no artwork there. But when selecting a track and right clicking it (choose again "info" here it is you will find the artwork. The missing artwork in iOS5 is related to the fact that in the library on my computer the albums had artwork, but the tracks were not showing it. Adding again (with i-tunes 10.5) the artwork and re-sincing solved the problem for me.
I hope this will help you, Hedzer

  • Retriving lost music?????

    Hi all
I upgraded my ipod last year to the fifth generation when my old one crashed. I was playing with the old one the other day and low and behold I was able to get it into disk mode, so I copied all files to my computer and am now wondering how I get them back into Itunes from that funky apple format? I have most of the music all ready but I did lose a few of the tracks along the way some how and would like to restore them. It will let me import them one file at a time but not more than that. Since You can't see what the song is before you load it, it will be a looooooooooooong process to find my lost music. Any help would be greatly apprecited!!!
    Thanks
    Cactus52

    hi
Thanks for the response. I have done all of that before and now again. It does not work. The songs I copied are in the Apple format (F00, F01, F02 folders and song files in four letter code such as AYLP, DFGW, etc). If I click on add folder and then select the F00, nothing happens. If I click on Add File, I click on AYLP and then it adds it. But I can't add multiple files at once. here in lies my dilema.

    Hi Louis
It is possible, you just need one of those programs - search google, names like irip etc.
Once you have the program it will bring everything up again in your itunes program, I found even deleted songs that were brought back. Fantastic feature...
Don't let anyone say you can't! it is possible, just something your not suppose to do with apple.

  • My wife and I share an iTunes account. Is there any way to set up a seperate one for her to sync her phone contacts, iCloud and music to without having to purchase all her music again and then share going forward?

My wife and I share an iTunes account. Is there any way to set up a seperate one for her to sync her phone contacts, iCloud and music to without having to purchase all her music again and then share going forward?
It would be so much easier having seperate accounts but we have hundreds of her purchased songs on my account and she would need to be able to access these from her account. Possible?
Also, if we bought a song in future we would want to be able to both have access to it.
Alternatively, what is the easy way to sync two distinctly different contact lists to one iTunes account?
    Thank you in advance.

FYI: iTunes account (used to make purchases) is not the same as iTunes library (iTunes on your computer with music, movies, etc.).
    ecbclb wrote:
Will we have to create a seperate account for her, or can we all have the same one?
You can but you will not be able to limit what she syncs.
I would like to avoid 'checking' and 'unchecking' individual songs every time one of us tries to synch our ipods to the library.
I don't recommend using (only) the checkmarks to select what to sync.
Each of you can create your own playlists then sync only those playlists.
Then add/delete from your own playlists to change iPod content.
The only time I uncheck items is if I rarely/never want to sync them to anything, such as Christmas music or old audiobooks.
I suggest you each have your own computer login account. Then everyone has their own contacts, calendars, and everything else.
You and your husband can share an iTunes library and let your daughter have her own.

  • I want to buy a ipod as my iphone as no memory from all of my music, is there a way of transferring the music from the iphone to the ipod? i dont want to have to re download or buy all of the music again!

You can redownload most iTunes purchases directly to the iPod by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise you will have to sync from your iTunes library.
