Hm ... I guess I can't edit the post above. Anyway, I seem to have solved it by ...
    Quitting iTunes.
Going into Home / Music / iTunes, and renaming the file "iTunes Library.itl" to "iTunes Library (corrupt).itl".
Entering Time Machine, and restoring the "iTunes Library.itl" file from a few days ago. I went back two days, which seemed far enough back to be "before" the problem but not far enough back to have trouble with recent acquisitions.
Re-opening iTunes - and everything seemed to be back in order.
So that's fine for now. We'll see if the solution is stable.
Very, very tentative assignment of blame: I believe iTunes crashed earlier today after I'd synced photos from my iPhone to iPhoto, and then iTunes crashed while iPhoto was closing (and taking its sweet time doing so). If that was indeed the case, that's at least the second time in the past couple of months that trying to sync iPhone photos to iPhoto has caused me significant problems. (The last time led to 80% of my iPhone suddenly being occupied by "Other", and a full restore of the darn thing.)

  • When trying to manually manage my music and videos on itunes its telling me that im already signed up to one itunes library and if i apply these setings it will replace my current itunes library. is this safe and would i be able too retrieve my deleted mu

when trying to manually manage my music and videos on itunes its telling me i am already connected to another itunes library and that if i apply these settings it will delete all of my data and replace it with the current itunes library. will this just delete from the i tunes library or from my i tunes account all together?

Thanks for your reply. I don't keep all of my music in the iTunes' designated music folder. I don't like the way iTunes reorganizes my songs and I keep all my music in my own self organized music folders as I don't use iTunes as my primary media application. Not to mention allot of my files come from all different corners of my computer's hard drive. It would literally take months to go through over 20 gigs of media files to pick out the songs I have in my iPhone library to rebuild an iTunes library. Like i said, I don't even use iTunes other than to transfer files to my iPhone. I thought the purpose of manually managing the files was so you don't have to sync it with the iTunes library but now it won't give my that option without requiring me to delete everything on my phone I worked so hard on.
What I don't understand is logically or technically why iTunes HAS to delete all the content off of my iphone. Who's decision in the Apple's software engineering department was to require the one's iPhone to be erased if someone loses their iTunes library? Its frustrating because it makes no sense and I feel as if the software is punishing me for reasons I don't understand by threatening to delete all my content off my phone. Is there absolutely no way to transfer my music to my iPhone without deleting everything currently on and completely rebuilding my music library from scratch?

  • Getting purchased music and video from itunes

I deleted some music and videos that i purchased from itunes store by accident from my computer. Is there a way that i can retrieve it from the store again without paying for it? I was able to view everything that I purchased but I couldn't find a way to download them again. Thanks
    marc

If you didn't make a back-up of your purchases to restore from then I'm sorry to say that the policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on the link at the bottom of this page you'll be able to email your query: iTMS Customer Service
If you have an iPod that still has the purchases on it the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer

  • Backup + lost music and videos

I just purchased and installed the 2.0 software upgrade and lost all of my music and videos from my iPod Touch. I was under the impression that the backup that it performed was actually backing up what was on my iPod and that I wasn't actually going to lose everything. Did I completely misunderstand what was going on? Some of the songs and videos that I had on my iPod are on an external hard drive that has been corrupted and I don't know if I'll be able to even save them. I'd like to think that I haven't completely lost everything. Is there someway to access this "backup" that was performed? I'd like to think I didn't just pay ten dollars to wipe out my ipod.

Unfortunately, you pretty much paid $10 to wipe out your iPod. From what I have heard on these boards, the people who did get everything back during the restore were those folks who had all of their media in their local iTunes. Folks like you and me who had content on our iPods that was NOT in the local iTunes did not get back any media during the restore.
For us, the backup only backed up settings, notes, that sort of stuff. Did you get back your settings, at least? If you did, then I would say there's no way to get back the music. However, if you didn't get back anything - no notes, settings, bookmarks, etc - then maybe the restore didn't use your backup for some reason, and it's possible to find that backup and re-restore with it. Hopefully someone else can answer that bit for you, as I'm not sure how to select a specific backup to use for a restore. I know it's been posted about on here, though, in the past couple of weeks.

issues syncing music and videos with itunes

Before anyone would be able to provide any troubleshooting steps, you would need to describe what "issues" means. Try describing your problem in detail, as well as what troubleshooting you have already tried before posting your question here. That way no one is wasting your time by asking you to perform steps that you have already taken.

  • Lost music and video after updating podcasts

For some reason all the music and videos on my iPod have disappeared, or I should say become inaccessible as it says I have none but the space they were taking up
is still in use, so they are somewhere on my iPod.
I was downloading a few new podcasts via a wi-fi connection and afterwards it "updated" my library and then the music and videos were gone (podcasts remained)
    Help!

    Have you reset your iPod?
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doe snot work I would next try resyncing.

  • Changed countries, but I still can't music and videos from iTunes. Help!

I moved from Jamaica to Canada. I changed all of the account information and added a new credit card. My problem now is that iTunes itself won't update on my iPad. I don't have the option to purchase music or videos. I can still only access Podcasts and iTunes U, as those were only available in Jamaica.
How can I get the other options available? Please help. I wanna rock!

Go to iTunes and tap on the Music tab. Swipe down to the bottom left corner of that screen and you can access your ID. Tap on it and then tap View Apple ID. Enter your password. Then go down to County/Region and change that to Canada and then save the changes.
Hopefull that will work and you will be able to "rock".

  • Can´t add music and videos to iTunes

If I try to add music or videos to my iTunes library nothing happens at all, even if the files are mp3 and mp4. But there´s no error shown to me. Just nothing happens. I know that this question was already asked, but there´s no answer which helpes me. It´s strange, because it works for nearly a year.

  • Lost music and videos

Some of my music and all of my purchased items [videos, podcasts, songs] were erased somehow. Is there any way to get them back? If so, how?

Every time you download music from the iTunes store Apple have to pay the artist royalties, so the official stance from Apple is that purchases from the iTunes music store can only be downloaded one time. Then, you must pay again.
*This is why you are prompted to back this music up to a cd or dvd* (which I assume you didn't do).
Some people say that they've been allowed a re-download for various reasons when they've contacted Apple.
You can only ask but please be aware that Apple are not obligated to do this for you.

Is this when purchasing music/videos, trying to import them from another location on your computer, or trying to transfer them onto the iPod?

  • I-tunes -lost music and video files

can you download your purchases from i-tunes again...

Just use your back up. This is why it is fundamental to maintain a back up.
Have you failed to maintain a back up?
You can transfer itunes purchases from your ipod - File>Transfer Purchases
From the itunes store terms of service:
" PRODUCTS CAN ONLY BE DOWNLOADED ONCE; AFTER BEING DOWNLOADED, THEY CANNOT BE REPLACED IF LOST FOR ANY REASON. YOU SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR BACKING UP YOUR OWN SYSTEM"

  • Itunes and iphone: how do you separate music and video on the purchase list

Hi, I buy my music and video on itunes and synchronise it with my iphone. When listening to the music from the iphone, the videos are unfortunately mixed with the music, which does not make any sense: it should be dispatched in two different play list. The playlist I use is called "purchases" but I don't have any "only music" play list. When I go to the Iphone parameters, I have not selected the function "include de video clips", so why are they mixed???

From the description you gave you were treating recent purchases as a play list (It can be but as you discovered it's not the best use for it.)and that's what was causing the problem.
Most of us can't get all our music, not to mention videos, into an iPhone so we create play list so we can sync to them.
Set up a few for practice, say 25 songs each, and see how that works for you.
    Or try the "Genius" feature.
Once you get the hang of it you can create your own mixes for all moods and occasions.
Tired of a play list? Delete it, it won't harm your library, and create another.
Do the same with your videos, only selected one are to be synced.
You haven't been making full use of your iTunes/iPhones set up.

  • Question About "Manually Manage Music and Videos"

    Hi!
I have a podcast stuck on my iPod. It is not deleted from a Playlist upon syncing, even though I've deleted it from the Playlist in iTunes. It still shows up in the "On My Device" representation of the Playlist, and of course, on the iPod itself. So I thought to manually delete it, but of course it's name is obfuscated in the iPod's directory. So I thought that maybe I could do it by selecting "manually manage music and videos" in iTunes. Presumably files would become human readable then, yes?
Here's my question: What will happen to all the content already on my iPod via syncing if I check that box? Will it all (all 140 GB) disappear and have to be re-synced? Or can I check that box, go in and delete the one podcast, then uncheck the box, all without affecting the rest of the content already on the device?
    TIA for your help!

If you post from a a question from the bottom of an article's page then you should get its reference, e.g. HT1535 in your case, on the post's title. The ability to edit you post only lasts for 15 minutes and allows you to correct/add extra info.
I get the 'manually manage music and videos' tockbox as described on that article. If you only 'videos' then are you using iTunes Match on your iPad ? I don't use it but I've seen posts that say having it enabled on a device can affect the syncing of music.
