I LOST MY CONTACTS DURING SOFTWARE UPDATE A WEEK AGO , TRIED TO RESTORE FROM MY LAST BACK UP HELD ON MAY 16, BUT FAILED , AM EVEN SURE I'V SELECTED ALL DATA BACKUP FOR ANY OF MY PREVIOUS BACKUP , TRIED TO RESTORE FROM ANY BUT FAILED , TRIED THE GMAIL CONTACTS ALSO FAILED , WONDERING WHERE MY CONTACTS I'VE SAVED FOR MORE THEN 10 YEARS ARE GONE ....AM TOTTALY DISSAPOINTED SINCE AM A BLACKBERRY USER SINCE 5 YEARS , ALWAYS SUPPORTED BLACKBERRY AGAINST IPHONE USERS , ALL MY FREINDS ARE NO MORE USING BLACKBERRY AND SWITCHED TO IPHONE OR SAMSUNG , AM HAVING AN EMPTY BBM LIST NOW , BUT STILL SUPPORTING AND EVEN BOUGHT THE Z10 FIRST WEEK OF RELEASE , I WOULD UNDERSTAND THAT A TECHNICAL PROBLEM HAPPENED DURING THE SOFTWARE UPDATE , BUT CANT UNDERSTAND THE USELESS BACK UP I'VE ALWAYS DOING ! AND THE WORSE IS THAT LAST SOFTWARE UPDATE TURNED THE Z10 TO A WORSE MOBILE.

So... your contacts seem to be on:
Gmail,
your previous backups.
-Solutions:
if all your contacts are on Gmail: copy them manually on your device,
they are a priori all in your backups: wait that Link won't be in Beta anymore, and then restore.
P.S.:
You make backups and don't register your contacts on SIM, is it possible ? Personally, I rarely register contacts on SIM. If there is a malware, it can be charged from the SIM to the Phone, this is why.

My itunes is asking for a kind of pasword while I am trying to backup my phone as it lost my contacts after an update of the software yesterday? FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
1. Turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...
Note:
1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
3. Repeat the process if necessary. -
Error message during software updates
I am constantly receiveing the following error message during software updates. This time it happened with an HP printer update, but it has happened with iTunes and Safari as well. Does anyone know what I need to do?
The system extension “/System/Library/Extensions/GeneIOUSBCFSubclass.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update

When you return home, you might try uninstalling CS6 and reinstalling it again. It sounds like some stuff may have become corrupted. -

If the reset doesn't work, you will have to force iPad into Recovery Mode.
1. Turn off iPad

You can't do much else besides pull the plug. If it causes further problems you should be able to restore as below:
Get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
On the other hand you may be able to simply start the update again. If however the update continues to fail, you should try the restore routine above. -

my iphone 4s froze during software update. I have removed and reinstalled itunes, but still will not recognize it nor reset it. In the screen I can only see a pic of the usb cable indicating me to conect with itunes. have done it several times but still does not solve my issue. I cannot use the device at all. any suggestions?

Could Not Contact the Software Update Server
I am trying to configure my clients so they can update releases of Jabber by clicking on "Check for Updates". I am getting the error, "Could not contact the software update server." I have verified the URL's in the XML files are correct and I can get to them directly from a browser.
Anyone have any ideas of what I am doing incorrectly?

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.

The friend who sold it to you needed to clear his Apple ID off the phone before he sold it to you. Of course if it wasn't his phone in the first place then he could not do so. He is your friend but you don't know where he is?
There is nothing that will help you short of getting the password for the Apple ID from your friend. If you cannot obtain that there is no workaround. -
Freezing up during software update
I just installed loin on one of my hard drives on my early 2008 Mac Pro. During software update the OS either crashes or freezes up.
I was eventually able to correct the problem. It first started because the phone's battery got completely discharged - thought the USB cable would keep it powered but that wasn't the case.
Anyway, tried to reboot the phone by removing and reinstalling the battery and the phone would not turn on, so this is how I understood what happened. Disconnected it from the USB cable and got the following message:
Your BlackBerry® Device Software is updated and you can safely disconnect your device.
Warnings were encountered during the loading process:
Application data could not be restored to the device. The backup data file has been saved to "file name". You can use the Desktop Software Backup/Restore tool to restore this information.
Recharged the phone, did the restore and the phone is back to life !
