Lost my document icon on bottom of screen.

I lost the document icon on the bottom of my screen. How can I get it back?

Click on the house icon in the Finder's sidebar and drag it back from there. In recent Mac OS X versions, you can also drag it back directly from the sidebar.

  • Help-lost all my icons at bottom of screen

I hit something and I lost all my icons. I don't know if that is what they are called really. The little pictures at the bottom of your comp. when you turn it on. They help you get to itunes, iphoto, firefox, ect,. Does anyone have any idea how I get them back? I was trying to force quit when I lost them, if that helps. Thanks.

Open the Dock pane of System Preferences and turn off the option to show or hide the Dock automatically; one of the other settings affects where the Dock appears, which should be set to the bottom. If the issue cannot be fixed from System Preferences, choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, enter /System/Library/CoreServices/ as the folder's location, and double-click the item named Dock there.

  • Icons at bottom of screen won't work

The icons at bottom of the screen won't work. I can slide them, but they won't tap for use.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • How do you create Document Icons on the Home Screen?

I have an iPad to use exclusively in the kitchen and would like to make my recipes appear as indivdual icons on the home screens with an associated picture.
    For example; Pumpkin Soup
I would like to create an icon with a picture of pumpkin soup and the same as a title.
When you tap the Pumpkin Soup icon a page appears with instructions and perhaps a picture or two.
So my question is: What are my options for creating these stand-alone icons that bring up a page that describes a recipe/document.
I understand that there are many 'recipe' apps avaliable, but none that I've encountered have the ability to save individual recipes as icons on the home screen.
I dont care whether I use a recipe app or some other processing/publishing app to achieve this.
I would very much like the recipe/document to appear on screen crisp and clear without program formatting around it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

I'm aware of the Safari shortcut, but was hoping there was a document, etc shortcut.
Thank you for your reply James Ward4

  • Acrobat 8.1 Pro Recent Update Lost PDF Document Icon

Adobe Acrobat 8.1 on Windows Vista. With the update that came on 02/15/2008, after successful install, I no longer have any PDF document icons. All my PDF documents have the Windows generic icon and the files are not recognizeable as PDF documents. All PDF documents function normally. it's just the icons are missing. My .pdf file association is with Adobe Acrobat 8.1. Any way to get back my PDF icons on PDF files?

Same problem here, and, as in your case, it showed up only after the most recent Adobe update--in fact, I started a topic on this before you did. Maybe you didn't see it--nobody else has posted a reply, either.
The 2/18 reply-poster's FAQ link concerns file associations, but that's not the problem here; file associations are still correct. The problem is that what are called LIVE ICONS in Vista no longer work for PDF files. The 'preview handler' underlying functionality still seems to work--that is, if you have the PREVIEW PANE enabled in Windows Explorer you can still see an accurate, detailed thumb of the file. (You access the preview pane under Organize>Layout.)
But the smaller, quick-and-dirtier preview that should show if you have the folder view set to 'large icons' or 'extra large icons', and that should also show in the DETAILS PANE, if you have that enabled, is gone--only a generic Acrobat icon now shows.
In Vista, these live icons are automatically enabled on the desktop, at least if you have the 'aero' graphics turned on. Thus, if you drag a .jpg, .gif, or similar file onto your desktop, you now see a thumbnail instead of the generic icon you saw in previous Windows desktops. Up until last week's update, you also saw .pdf previews on the desktop. But no longer.
I have no better clue than you do about how to get them back. The preview handler designations in the Registry don't show any obvious problem, although the recent Adobe update may have made changes in there that I'm not aware of. (In the CLSID and CLASS keys, for instance.)
My guess would be that there's some changed .dll that didn't get registered properly, or have the right permissions assigned, in the recent update. But this is just a sheer guess. Given all the problems with Acrobat 8 I've seen in these forums, I'm not going to go blindly experimenting on CLSID/Class keys or dlls.
I can't find anything at Microsoft.com or the Microsoft KB about this either--just boilerplate promo for users or developers about how great their live icons are. But for what it's worth, Acrobat is not the only program that has trouble with Live Icons. Microsoft office 2007 live icons are just as screwed up as the PDF ones have become. In fact, they have been screwed up from the beginning!
Once in a great while an Excel 2007 .xlsx file sitting on the desktop will show its preview. But most of the time, just the generic icon shows. I have never managed to see a live icon for a Microsoft Word file. Only .jpgs and .gifs are completely reliable (so far, knock on wood).
    Pretty lame.
By the way, there were also Windows Updates last week ('patch tuesday') and it is slightly possible that they had something to do with this lost functionality. But I don't think so. I can't spend all my time tracking & troubleshooting every update of everything, so I can't state this with 100% certainty, but I am PRETTY sure that the .pdf file live icon problem happened AFTER the last Adobe update and BEFORE the last Windows update.
I wish the Adobe Updater would have a convenient way of showing you which updates were installed when. Vista has this.

  • I lost start icon at bottom of screen

i no longer am able to turn off my computer, nor log off because the START icon, on the lower left of the screen dissappeared

As this is not a Firefox question, you should ask this in a forum that specializes in Windows problems, such as Eileen's Lounge - http://eileenslounge.com

  • Since upgrade I can no longer see tray icons on bottom of screen - how do I uncover them?

Since the latest upgrade, Firefox now covers my entire screen. I can get used to the disappearing tabs & such on the top, but for my job I need to switch back & forth between browser and email a lot, and need quick control of the volume bar. The entire bottom tray of icons is covered by Firefox now, and it doesn't have any quick way to make it go away. How do I uncover these?

The options in that menu now are aside of the home page icon, just click on the menu icon

  • Battery % is stuck, No permanent icons on bottom of screen

Hi. My iphone 4 is 5 months old. I plugged it into my laptop to charge up and since then my battery percentage on the phone is stuck on 4% but the phone is charged. Also when the phone is charging the big battery icon in the middle of the screen stays in the red and doesnt move to green at all. And at the same time the 4 permenent icons that stay down the bottom when you swipe from one screen to the next have disappeared. There is no permanent icons anymore. To access these, especially the phone, i had to push the home button twice and then swipe to find the phone which is a pain. Thanks for any help. And this all happened when i charged the phone from my laptop, which was plugged into power at the same time

  • Can icons on bottom of screen be changed

Wondering whether the 4 icons at the bottom of the screen can be changed.  For example, I would prefer to remove the Music one and replace it with Messenger.  Thanks!!

You have the ability to move icons around on the phone and arrange in any way you see fit. Just hold down on the icon until it starts to wiggle and then using your finger move to whatever location you want. After you finish moving then tap the home button.

  • No burn cd icon at bottom of screen

Hi, I made a playlist to burn a cd like the help instructions said to do. It said to click on the Burn CD icon on the bottom right hand corner of the screen. However, there is no icon there. I downloaded 8.2 last week, so I'm updated and everything. Anyone know what my issue could be?

If the problem is that the bottom of the iTunes window is not visible, go to Control Panel > Settings and increase your screen resolution, perhaps to 1024 x 768 or higher.

  • Download icon on bottom of screen

I was deleting documents from my download into trash and mistakenly deleted the entire "download" function.  I'm not able to download.  Help!

I think you are referring to the Download item located on the Dock. It's just an alias to your real Downloads folder locate in your /Home/ folder. Select the folder's icon and drag it to the right side of the Dock next to the Trashcan.
Usually, you download files through your browser, not through the Dock.

I thought I had dragged it into the Trash bin, but it is gone... All my files are still in my Documents folder, but I can only access it through the finder icon.
    Help!

Found the answer in the "More like this" ection! Ha ha, I wasn't the first person to do this!

  • Document icon on screen- cannot move it?

Hello. I was just tidying up files in a folder, when one of the document icons 'froze' onto the screen. I closed down the Finder window, but the icon continued to hang there. it is now superimposed on all the views of the mac, on top of any document I am working on. Could you good people advise me of how to get rid of it?
    Thanks!
